I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is no legal way to "craack" a business computer, your IT has to help you recover your Windows. If this is a personal computer, with proof of ownership of both computer and of your windows, a local computer shop may be able to help you at least get your data files onto an external media if not able to legally run password-hunters. Otherwise, it is time to totally reinstall -- and this time keep a written record of usernames and passwords locked in a drawer somewhere.

Good morning everyone, Please pardon me...as I know this probably sounds like a dumb question. Unfortunately, I'm trying to learn a little about how Win 7 works...so I'm starting from scratch, so-to-speak.What I've done thus far & what info I am seeking:I've looked at all the tutorials I can find here on the BC site and even tried typing a query in the search box, but have been unable to find any instructions which explain how to create a password for the Windows 7 default Administrator account (or even a separately-created Administrator account).(The tutorials I have already reviewed indicate the Win 7 default Administrator account is by default...disabled (on a new computer, I'm guessing), and after going through the multi-step process of enabling the Admin account, it is recommended the user secure the account with a strong password).Thank you for your time and any information regarding this issue!Regards to all!

Hi, If you normally access the Admin account with an email and password, see if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.  https://account.live.com/password/reset Otherwise, there is a general policy on the Forum not to provide methods to bypass Windows log-on passwords, however a local computer shop would be able to do this for you. Another option, if all your personal data etc is backed-up, would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up from the beginning ? if you don?t have your Recovery Media, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on. A full guide on this can be found on the following link. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110#!&AbT1%3Fjumpid=hpr_r1002_usen_link1 Regards, DP-K

"administrator user - Is an unelevated administrator account that is created by default during the installation of Windows 7, or is already setup or you on a OEM (ex: Dell) computer. An administrator account has complete access to the computer, and can make any desired changes. To help make the computer more secure, this administrator account type will be prompted by UAC by default to give confirmation before allowed to make any changes that require elevated administrator rights. Such as those that affect the system, other users, or when running anything elevated (Run as Administrator) since running elevated will allow it to have access to the entire computer".

The above was taken from a Forums tutorial. Is it possible to require a password for this account when operating in the standard User Account ?

For example, when I update the Windows Defender definitions, I right click the file and click "Run As Administrator". It does so without requiring a password.

When "Run As Administrator" is clicked, I would like to have to enter a password.
Possible or not ?

A:Password For The User-Administrator Account

Add a password to your administrator account.

A Standard user will be prompted for the password for "Run as administrator".
You will also need to enter the password to login to the administrator account.

Don't lose or forget the password !

All,

I realized today that I do not have access to my system's "Administrator" account though happily I do have admin privileges in another user account. Using "net user administrator" I learned the Administrator account is not active but a password is required to to make any changes. Unfortunately I no longer have the Administrator account password.

Using the admin privileges in the user account can I change the password for the Administrator account. If yes, how?

Thanks.

A:How to change Administrator account password

I found the answer; run command prompt as administrator, change Administrator to active using 'net user Administrator /active:yes", then "net user administrator [new password]". Thanks for playing.

Hi

I have a laptop running Windows 7 where I have an administrator account and a user account set up (not the Windows 7 guest account). When someone logs onUo the User account there are two *.exe files which do not run without requesting administrator passwords to run. How do I set these files to run without administrator passwords in the User account? They are not harmful applications and are related to the battery management on the laptop.

A:Administrator Password In User Account

Here is a link. Not sure if will help, but helped me.
Add Take Ownership Option Shortcut in Right Click Menu of Windows 7
Go down to the link that says download "take ownership"

Unzip the file, using WinRar.

While in said user account, go to the files you unzipped, double-click the "install Take ownership.reg"

It will install a right-click option in the context menu that allows you to take ownership of a given file or folder.

BE ADVISED: maybe make duplicates of the .exe files in question in case it doesn't work. Or you can re-download them again I guess.

If it works and you are done and happy, you can double-click the "removeTakeownership.reg" and it will remove the entry from your registry as well as the option in the right-click context menu.

Hello, I'm new here, I hope I posted this in the right section, if not, Please move it to the correct section instead of deleting it.

I have a windows 7 ultimate edition 32 bit and linux mint 11 Katya on dual boot, I forgot my password for the only user account on windows 7 and that account was an administrator, unfortunately, i never created the password reset disk, after trying for a day or 2 to figure the password out, i started using mint to my advantage, i downloaded and installed a tool called "Chntpw", it's supposed to remove the password entirely or change it and it's able to unlock locked accounts like the guest account, i used the following command after changing the directory to my Windows/System32/config:

Sudo chntpw -u <myusername> sam
for some reason my SAM file is in lower case letters, anyways after using that to remove the password on my account, it says it was successful and i saved it and even checked it again and it says that it no longer requires a password, but when i rebooted my pc into windows 7, it still asked for a password, and after trying to a few other things like unlocking the administrator and guest accounts, 3 things happened: my account's profile picture changed, the password hint i typed disappeared and switch user option appeared, i tried using it but it for administrator it requires a password even though chntpw says it doesn't, and for the guest account it says that the method i'm using to log in isn't allowed.

Ok. Here's the story. I'll be attending a university soon. On a tour I decided to borrow my grandfather's laptop/ Windows Vista Basic 32 bit...so that I could access the internet. Well.....the Server required That I have a password on the account (Administrator...and the only account). Weird...but hey...whatever....I'll just remove it when I'm done. WRONG! Now I'm back home and When I go to Control Panel>User Accounts> and click "Remove Your Password" I get a box that say's "Windows cannot remove the password. Password and/or account policies require the account to have a password." I've never seen this before. So after many attempts I think to myself...well... since I can't remove it might as well change it to something a bit more relevant to him. WRONG! Every attempt at creating another password is answered with "The password you typed does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity, and password history requirements." Trust me....I've put in some complicated ****. It is simply not going to let me change it. Does anybody have any advice? At all.....

Ps. Changing and/or removing the password from command prompt displays the exact same error messages. What is it about my account that needs a password? How can I change this?

Does using User Account passwords on Vista make it more secure? It sure is annoying to have to enter it all the time!

We have two logins on our computer both setup as Admin, and I read on here or another geek board that passwords should be used on Admin accounts. Is this true or does it not make a big deal since our firewall is pretty good.

A:Vista User Administrator Account Password

Yes, its always a good idea, malware and viruses can easily by pass a firewall if you browse to dodgy side by accident and they can get control of your computer. I would also recommend keeping UAC on to ensure further security.

Hi, all. My first post here. Great forums and info. Wasn't sure if this was an OS, security, or networking question. So I thought I'd start here. Let me know if it's posted incorrectly.

I'm using Windows XP Home SP2 and am connected to the internet through a shared router (via ethernet cable direclty to the router). All firewalls (except the router's firewall) have been disabled.

If I put a password on the administrator account on my PC, I'm unable to connect to the internet. This is the only accounton the PC (guest is disabled; no limited accounts). All network connections are fine - nothing is dropped or missing. Once I delete the administrator account's password, internet connection is back.

Does anyone know if there's a work around for this? What are the security risks if there's no password on the administrator account? I do keep sensitive files password protected at the program/file levels. I'm not too worried about PC being stolen or anyone looking at it while I'm not home. Thanks for your time and help.

So normally, when you try to use the windows file sharing,
share a folder and try to access it over the network, you get asked for a
username and password

what if you have an admin account without a password?
could then anyone access your files?

im asking because Im using a public network/wifi
and a few hours ago when I checked I noticed that my PC was discoverable on the network, despite me
disabling network sharing and discovery and setting the network as a public network,

my PCs admin account had no password set, and I noticed that my Desktop folder was shared
despite me not remembering ever setting it as shared

might it be possible that someone using the same public wifi was able to access my files / desktop folder?

if I had password protected sharing turned on, and my admin account had no password
would someone be able to access a shared folder by using the username and blank password to login?

as far as I remember normally you cant use blank passwords to login right? as a safety measure?

A:Administrator account without password network file sharing

Setting the connection as "public network" instructs the windows firewall to NOT enable network discovery. You cannot access a share using an accountname WITHOUT a password.

Why not try yourself and see what happens? Do you really see the computer on other devices? Can they see your shares as well?

Have a customer running Win7 Pro on a peer to peer network. Every Wednesday it seems something is trying to log into the administrator account on his computer when he isn't there. When he comes into the office on Thursday or remotes into the computer via Logmein he sees that the Windows login screen as switched from his user account login icon to the administrator account login icon. Thats not the strangest part though. Something actually has left a few characters typed into the password field. Last week it was 3 characters, this week its one character. He has security cameras in his office and nobody was near his desk at all. The only remote access to his machine is Logmein and I checked the Logmein reports and nobody had accessed his Logmein account at any time during the hours this would have occurred. I thought about program or windows update that cause automatic reboots but even if it had automatically rebooted Windows it wouldn't automatically switch user to the Administrator and certainly there is no way Windows itself would be able to key in characters in a entry field that I have ever heard of. Machine has been checked for malware and virus' and is clean as a whistle. And if someone was using some sort of hidden remote software on the machine why would they be bothered to try and log into the Administrator account when my clients users account has full administrator rights anyway. The whole things is creepy. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Adam
