Keyboard issue after sleep mode

Q: Keyboard issue after sleep mode

Hi Recently motherboard of my ThinkPad P51 was replaced by Lenovo Service Center. After that just in a few days, the keyboard and mouse pad of my laptop does not work when I switch on my laptop. I have to press the power button for a long time to reboot it forcefully or use an external mouse to shut the laptop. Once I do this and restart my laptop, the keyboard and mousepad work fine. Can I get a solution to this problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1) Today, Vista has not recognized my ps2 keyboard. It works fine during boot-up, and works fine when in setup. But once Vista 'welcome' screen appears, the keyboard is useless.
I can go into setup and use keyboard just fine, but it's dead once boot is done.

This problem arose this morning.....normal bootup as usual.

I'm typing this via USB keyboard.

2) Sometimes this pc just will not come out of sleep mode unless I do a hard boot.
Right now, the power save settings are:

Turn off display: Never
Put computer to sleep: Never

I have a dual monitor system:

I left the room for 30 minutes and came back to find both monitor screens black.
(The screen saver should have been running.....it was not.)

I moved the mouse and the 2nd monitor came to life while the main monitor went to sleep.......followed by the 2nd monitor......I could still hear the fan running.....I had to hard boot to shut down.

Often, when in sleep mode, the keyboard is completely unresponsive.

I have an Asus Vivobook with the updated windows 8 installed. I cannot figure out how to make the laptop wake from sleep from the keyboard without opening the laptop and waking it from the screen. Is it possible to change this?

A:Waking from sleep mode from the keyboard

I would check this post here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/122027-devices-allow-prevent-wake-up-computer.html

I would try option 1:
- hit the windows logo key + R
- type devmgmt.msc
- Under keyboards, right click your keyboard and select properties
- On the power management tab, select "allow this device to wake the computer"

I'm not sure if this has been posted and solved already, if anyone can direct me to a post where this problem is addressed, I would be very greatful.

In case it hasn't, I'm having a problem. I already made it so that my nVidia nForce thing won't wake my computer up from sleep. However, when I do wake it up from sleep, the keyboard will not work and I have to un-plug it and plug it back it in for it to work.

A keystroke will wake the computer up, but then once the computer is woken up a yellow triangle with a "!" on it shows up next to the keyboard in the device manager.

I have already downloaded the Vista service pack "2" as well as installed the hotfix that claims to address this problem. I have downloaded the update ending in "528" and that didn't solve the problem either. This is really irritating me.

How do I fix this?

Hi Everyone. This problem might be posted elsewhere but unfortunately I don't have time to search for it. I am using Windows XP and I am having a problem with it. When I turn off the screen I leave my profile on, but it goes back to the main menu on it's own. After it is in sleep mode the mouse and the keyboard don't work. I tried restarting the computer several times and it always says the keyboard is unplugged even though it is plugged in. When it gets to the windows menu the mouse doesn't move (like it is disconnected). The only way to fix it is to unplug the power cord for a minute and then next time it works fine. This only used to happen once in a while but now it happens all the time. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not blindly posting the issue. I have done research and followed other threads in order to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail.

I built my computer back in January of this year. Not up until a few days ago did I start having this issue. I can't think of any major changes I made in order to cause this. I can use my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard the wake the computer up from the sleep mode... but once it's up, neither of them are responding.

Things I checked for: Latest update on the USB drivers, Logitech Software update (including the PS/2 Driver) Windows update. I checked if the option is checked ON for 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' (and it is on). When other things are plugged in the same USB port, they work just fine after sleep mode, e.g. my drawing tablet...

I'm using Windows 7. The Logitech mouse and keyboard are sharing a unified receiver. If I put the computer to sleep manually and try waking it up using the mouse and keyboard, they both work just fine. Only when the machine falls asleep by itself that this issue occurs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Mouse and Keyboard not working after sleep mode...

Sounds like you may have a problem with the wireless keyboard and mouse. Try a wired keyboard and mouse and see if the same problem occurs, then we can take it from there.

I have a wired USB keyboard and a wireless USB mouse on my computer. I have set the Power Options for sleep mode under Windows 8.1 to occur after a certain amount of time. When I have returned to my computer when it is in Sleep mode after a particularly long period of time both the keyboard and the mouse USB ports are turned off and there is then no way I can resume from sleep mode. What do I have to do to have sleep mode work on my computer under Windows ?

I have DV9543cl Laptop and have been using it for a long time. I just replaced the mother board and reinstalled Vista.

I have 2 problems:
1. Once the laptop is awaken from the sleep mode, the keyboard works fine for a few second and then it hangs. No response (for example Caps lock light doesn't toggle and can't type with any keys). If i reboot then it works great.

-- I tried removing driver and let vista reinstall it but that's didn't work
-- Also tried going back to old NVIDIA driver but that didn't work either.
-- Device Manager --> Kayboard--> Properties -->Power Management has the "Allow this device to be turned off to save power" Grayed out.
-- Once I put the Laptop to Hibernate then the keyboard starts working back again.

2. The touch pad light lights up but it doesn't work
-- Tried installing Synaptic driver but didn't get installed.
-- In Control panel-> Mouse, i don't see any synaptic device.

I am a first time poster here and I'm afraid I will have to go into a lot of detail's in order to explain what is happening. What I want to be able to do is use a wireless mouse & keyboard on my computer and have it go into Sleep mode when it is suppose to. The computer is a HP 1360t, running Win. 7 Home Premium with a ASUS VN247H monitor.

In Power Options I have these settings:
Turn OFF Display after 5 mins.
Put Computer to Sleep in 10 mins.

In Advanced settings:
Hard Drive OFF in 15 mins.
Sleep after 10mins.
Hybrid Sleep OFF
Hibernate Never
Turn OFF Display 5 mins.

When I have a wired mouse & keyboard hooked up to the PC everything work's perfectly. Start a test at 10:00 with the monitor screen showing my Desktop. At 10:05 the screen will fade to black for 5 to 10 seconds, than it will come back up and the screen will be a solid blue color with a small black dialog box in it's center that reads "HDMI1 No Signal". Than the screen will fade to black again and it stays OFF. The little white ON lite along bottom right hand corner of monitor turns amber. At 10:10 the computer goes into Sleep mode and I have looked in the Event Viewer and verified t... Read more

I've had this problem for a while now and I REALLY got tired of it, so here goes: every time I put my PC to sleep mode, when I "wake it up" by pressing the power button, my Mouse and Keyboard either aren't recognized at all (although theres the normal LED flashing on them as if they were working) or they have other bugs, like for example the Keyboard is locked with a certain letter like A or something and it keeps spamming AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The only way to fix it is to pull the USB plugs and put them in again - then everything is fine! But as I said above I got tired of unplugging+plugging the USBs of my keyboard and mouse every time, especially since I use sleep mode a lot throughout the day.

Thanks for your tips in advance,

Hi everyone,

I have a weird problem where my mouse and keyboard (and possibly other usb devices) stop working after turning on my pc from sleep mode. I'm hoping you don't already have Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed, because I know quite a few of my friends had your problem but installing SP1 fixed it.

Hello, I have a laptop HP pavilion g7 with built in windows 8. I've upgraded to 8.1 from start and now beginning to have some issues.

- When i alt-tab between apps and different programs, my left alt-key doesn't work. When i use my right alt, the alt gr button, the alt-tab function works. After spamming my left alt (or waiting for a short while, 30sec or so) it starts working again.

- When i start my PC sometimes i can't type in my password because certain keys won't work. For an example the character "t" does not work until i wait for a while, most of the times i have to open the "screen keyboard" so that i can click letters i want to input.

This has become quite sudden as i've not experienced this during 2-4 weeks before. I have not recently installed anything new, i have tried installing the lastest windows updates and the issue still stays.

What can be the issue? This seems much like the audio issue i have going on as well. For an example when i open a youtube video, the player will stay at 0:00 (yet the buffering makes progress) until my audio "unit" becomes active. I have noticed that when i start different programs or sites that play audio, my system audio output isn't loaded and it takes a while for it to load, only then the media will start playing. I have the latest audio drivers, i even have two drivers, 1. AMD High Definition Audio Device and 2. IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.

have you tried to update your system drivers?

you may have an "updater" on your laptop, most manufacturers have this software. Iv recently seen it on a HP laptop. HP Upadter and it searches for new updates to firmware/softare. if you have this then try it,.

otherwise, go to the manufacturers website and see if any drivers or firmware updates are available.

One day as i was using a program it completly froze, so i restarted. When i did it got to a loading screen just about to the screen where i pick my user account to sign on and it froze again, So i once again restarted and when i turned it back on it sounded asthough it was started up normally aka the beeps and crap it makes when it boots up all sounded normal but i noticed my keyboard and mouse didn't light up like they should and the monitor was in a sleep mode aka it is on but it's a black screen with flashing light at the bottom the same it would be if i turned my pc off but left my monitor plugged in/on.So anyway i waited and hour and it booted normally again. It went about a week or longer and i decided to leave my pc on overnight, when i got back on it in the morning i moved my mouse a little to warm it up and it froze again just like last time so i restarted it and the same thing happened but it has now been a few days and it stll isn't working.Does anyone have any suggestions to try to fix it? i really don't know much about pcs other than how to use it lmao.
Oh, other things i should note.My mouse and keyboard are both usb and they both work on other pcs same with the monitor.
Also i turned my pc on while it was like this and tried unplugging my mouse and plugging it back in and when i plugged it back in it briefly lit up like it should but went out again when fully plugged in.

I have two computers running Windows 8.1.  The one I'm on now would not go into sleep mode until I flashed the BIOS, updated the chipset and a couple other drivers and eventually uninstalled the ASUS AI Suite program.  The other computer quit going into sleep mode when I installed Windows 8.  Sleep mode was working in Windows 7 but I have to manually put the computer to sleep now.  There is nothing much installed on the other computer and BIOS and chipset drivers are current from ASUS.  I don't notice anything in Task Manager using CPU cycles and can't figure out why sleep mode is broken.  I'm not sure where to begin trouble shooting beyone what I've already done.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

A:Sleep Mode Issue

Sleep mode issues are very common.
First off, make sure all of your programs are closed.  This issue is a biggie with win 8 and 8.1, because the tiles keep the last 4 apps open.
To check what is open in the tiles do the following
To close a tile or app while you are in it, (so you dont leave it open) save your work then press
ALT+F4 (some keyboard require you to use the FN+ALT+F4 or FN+F4)
The above will close the current app your on.
ALso you can view a list of the open apps by pressing keys
This will make a list of them on the left side go to think link to see this guide and a bunch of others for WIndows 8 and 8.1
If this is not the issue, and it usually is, because if the programs are open Windows will not sleep until they are all closed.
If not then try these steps from Vonnie Hudson's guides on windows.

1. Check your Power Options
Let’s try the obvious stuff first.  It stands to reason that clicking Sleep should put the computer to sleep; however, those settings can change — let’s make sure they haven’t. Go to the Start Screen and type

power options
Press enter and your power plan should immediately show up. Go ahead and click the blue Change plan settings link immediately to the right of your power plan

The Edit Plan Settings box will pop onto the screen.  Click Change advanced power settings

The Power Options box shows up with a myriad of settings.

I have tried almost every possible solution to this problem and this problem is that every single time I put my computer into Sleep Mode, the PC will sleep for about ten seconds then awake to the log on screen.

These are the things I've tried without success:
Turning off "wake on this device" in Device Manager for EVERY thing
Turning off automatic updates
Turning off firewall (just to be sure)
Configuring my BIOS any and every way possible
Closing background programs before I enable sleep
turned off all my computer's extremities (stereo, hdd, monitor)
I even closed out of Windows Sidebar and all my gadgets
I may have forgot some different attempts as well. I was hoping someone here would have an idea that escaped my knowledge and frantic Google searches.

I'm having a pretty annoying issue with sleep mode. I'm a decently savvy computer user to i might have changed a setting or two in my bios but i don't think its the issue. But anywho, My problem is that when i select sleep mode, everything powers down and then when my pc itself powers down, it just powers up without a hitch and returns me too my desktop. I dont really like shutting down my pc i use it a bit and the answer to this problem eludes me. I tried to change the "Allow wake timer" setting in power management to disable and in my bios, the ACPI suspend type is S3&S1 which is what it was when i installed windows. And too make it worse all the hardware im using is the same when on a previous installation of windows, sleep mode worked fine. I cant think of what it is and a handy google search didn't help me either.
I'm using a program that came with my mobo called asus ai suite. its a auto cpu overclock sort of program, and it has a "ai nap" program in it that basically puts the cpu in a sleep mode of its own but doesn't power down the rest of the pc. A:Sleep mode issue.

Hi, Try disabling Windows 10 hybrid boot - you can do this as follows. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and shutdown the notebook by right click the Start Menu icon, select Command Prompt (Admin) and click ?Yes? to the uac prompt. Type ( or copy and paste ) in the following command ( including spaces ) and hit enter. shutdown /s /t 0 Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a couple of minutes before checking if it will now shutdown correctly from the Start Menu. If this has corrected the issue, it may be worth turning Fast Start-up back on ? sometimes just deleting and re-creating the file will resolve the problem. Regards, DP-K

Hello everybody, my first post here and I joined specifically because I need some help. This thing is very strange, since it only started happening recently (I can't tell if it started once I got the internet or when I got wireless keyboard/mouse, I got them both a couple weeks ago around the same time). I've checked all over the internet and I can't find anyone with a similar issue, I've even checked a thread here with a walkthough, which didn't help at all. Hi all,

I apologize in advance for the novel. I'm not sure when this issue started, but I'm wondering if it's connected to another issue I'm having. The latest issue has done this two or three times now...

Basically, I leave my computer on 24/7, but it doesn't go to sleep or hibernate, it RUNS in Windows 24/7 as I often have programs I need to let run overnight, etc. Some mornings, I will come back to my computer, hit a key on the keyboard or mouse, or move the mouse and the monitor won't come out of sleep mode. The computer SEEMS to be running as I see the HDD indicator light flickering. The only way to solve it in these cases is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, which seems to bring everything back. I get the screen that lists "lock screen, switch user" etc., and then I can just hit cancel and go from there. THAT has happened maybe 10-12 times now over the last few months.

The LATEST issue (the one that's happened two or three times), is the same as above, except that when I come back, no keypresses or mouse movements of any sort will bring the computer 'back' and I have to hard reset with the button on the case.

Anybody had a similar issue or know how to solve it? I've read that it's an issue with the more recent ATi drivers, except that in the few months I've gone through like 2 official versions and 5 beta versions of those. I just got the latest official drivers two days ago (13.12) and the 'needing-to-Ctrl-Alt-Del-to-bring-the-monitor-out-of-sleep' thing is back on oc... Read more

I would appreciate your help with a problem I am having with my Yoga 700.   I put my laptop into sleep mode last night instead of turning it off.  When I turned it on again this morning, neither the touchpad nor the keyboard was working.  The touchscreen still works and so does a USB mouse.  The keyboard backlight still activates when I boot the laptop and the keys work fine in UEFI and on the blue Windows Recovery screen to access Safe Mode but neither works in Safe Mode itself.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but that has not worked. I tried a system restore but that has not worked.  I have also tried holding down the power button for 15+ seconds and restarting with the main power supply connected but that did not work either. Any advice on what to do to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I have 3 issues with my Dell 3147 laptop.
The first one has to do with the keyboard and touchpad. For no apparent reason, the touchpad will disable and re-enable itself and in the process the physical keyboard will completely disable and won't enable again unless I restart the laptop
Second issue has to do with the sleep mode. Whenever I put the laptop on sleep mode I cannot go back to my session and have to press the power button for several seconds until the laptop resets/restarts completely.
Third issue has to do with the screen. It will flip upside-down without me doing anything, which means that I need to manually revert it using the keyboard shortcut everytime.
Appreciate any help.

G'day all-

I have my pc set up to go to sleep in 60 mins, monitor turns off in 30 mins, screen saver engages in 10 mins. Everything was working fine yesterday, and I made NO changes to the system. I have a Samsung SSD, and the power setting is set to Samsung High Performance by Samsung Magician settings. The screen saver kicks in at 10 mins, and the monitor shuts down at 30, like set. At 60 mins, the pc attempts to go to sleep, but simply restarts. For the record, we've run 'sfc/ scannow' and it comes up with no integrity violations.

Please find attached the 'Energy Report-html'

Please advise if you need any screen shots from 'DevMgr', Advanced Power Settings, or wherever.

Sure would appreciate any help with this, and offer a Thank You in advance.

A:PwrCfg/Sleep Mode Issue

Ran CMD 'powercfg lastwake' and it listed the Intel USB 3.0eXtensible Host Controller as the last wake up incidence. Went to 'DevMgr' and checked settings, but there's no tab for power management. The plot thickens!...Perhaps reinstall device?... there are NO 3.0 USB devices plugged in at present.

Please note attached CMD screen shot.

When system goes to sleep longer than a hour and you wake it up the bottom third of the screen freezing.

The top 2/3's get split like window pane a when you scroll the top 2/s's will scroll but the bottom 1/3 will remain as it was before sleep...

Also the bottom third wont have any hover icon effects though icon will still work, the task work as intended...

If I restart the programs the will work fine but windows has to restart for icon hover effects to work....

Any Idea whats going on here...

This is a New Build less than 4 months old just starting doing this, No driver crashes, hardware not returning any errors..

AMD FX6100 ( 6 core )
8gb DDR3 12800
XFX radeon 7850 Double D 2gb

First of all - can anyone answer me on wich e-mail adress should I send all of my reports to Microsoft regarding Windows 7 problems that I encountered ?
Second, here is the problem wich was very annoying but I did solve it so my point is to warn Microsoft about this so they can fix it in future Windows update or Service Packs for Windows 7.
When you are using (for example I used "High Performance" Power Plan) and in advanced options of any of Power Plans you let option - "Hard disk - Turn off hard disk after" to be turned ON (for example if you make your hard disk turn off after 15 minutes) you will have some serious trouble.

This was happening:

In Windows Vista - all worked well. I would put my PC in sleep mode, get back for hour and just press power button on my PC and he went up pretty fast. That was great option and it was working just fine.

But in Windows 7, I found out trough days and days of testing that when I put my PC to "Sleep mode" if it's "Sleeping" more then 15 minutes - I just can't get it back to desktop from sleep!

I would press Power button, fans would start but then PC would just shut down and try to start itself again and again until i completely shut it down from power and re-started it again.
After some time I was very mystified by this problem and many of my colleagues and friends had similar or the same issue. One day we all discovered that if we set "Turn off hard disk" option to... Read more

When I put my (admittedly old) laptop into sleep mode (while plugged in) it will appear to work, but when I wake it up, the screen remains black. It is awake, but the backlight does not turn back on when the CPU does. I haven't seen information about this being a common issue with this computer (although there are other Sleep Mode issues with it). A full restart fixes this issue, for now.

The AMD Radeon video driver would not install properly recently, so I got around to manually installing it a few nights ago. Everything else is working properly, and the Windows Experience Index actually went up after installing the new driver (for whatever that's worth).

It is an HP Pavilion g6 2090ca; Intel Core i5 2450M processor; 6 GB DDR3 RAM; Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.

Is this a known issue with Radeon cards, HP laptops from that generation, or just a sign that my computer is on its last legs?

Every time I wake up my pc, all my desktop shortcuts have dissapeared and all my running apps show they are still running. However whenever I click on that app on the task bar, that app never opens. Any advice. All my graphics drivers are up to date. I do have a second hdd with Windows 7 hooked up to the mb. Could it be a power issue? Any takers?

Dell Inspiron laptop. i5 series, 2.53 GHz, 6GB memory, windows 7 64-bit.

I am constantly having an issue that is getting progressively worse. As my computer is coming out of sleep mode, instead of taking me to my log in screen (security), the screen just starts scrolling through various solid colors... black... red... blue... green... etc. I have to hit the power button, to put it back in sleep mode, watch while it struggles with this, then when the power button is flashing, I hit it again, to bring it back. Then, and only then, will it go to my log in where I enter my password.

I actually called Dell, but that was such a big headache and a waste of time. I have a 16 month old and I can't sit on the phone while they read through their books like I'm an idiot.

I'm wondering if it is my video card but I'm not sure how to test it.

Hi all,

I just finished building my first computer yesterday. Everything seems to be working just great, except when I put my computer in sleep mode and try to wake it up.

Here is my issue: When I put my computer to sleep, it works fine. When I try to wake it up (by pressing power button or hitting key on keyboard), it powers on for a brief second and then shuts down. The only way to get it back on is by pressing the power button again, resetting the pc. I just want to know how to set it up so when i hit a key on my keyboard it will wake up with no issues. Side notes: I have disabled hybrid sleep mode and clicked the box to allow keyboard to wake computer.

Please help. Thank you.

I have an issue with my Yoga 900 not reacting when putting it into sleep mode. I have tried chaning my sleep and wake up settings and the laptop is supposed to wake up upon use of the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. Also hitting the power button doesn't help. The only solution is a hard reset. This is particularly annoying when the computer goes into sleep automatically. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution?

Recently purchased my Book in October 2017. I was so excited when it arrived due to all the cool tech that was built-in. I took it with me on Vacation in November. During my flight I was watching some downloaded movies. When I closed the lid to catch a few z's. The **bleep** thing began to chime like it had some sort of wind chimes going off. It turned out that some how miscellaneous programs were launching and windows was sounding off with system sounds. I had to re-open the book and manually close everything and shut down the system in order to silence it. A couple of days after landing I began to use the book again and realized the screen rotation was not working as well as the Halo Keyboard activation button (upper right corner). This was so frustrating for me, I began to consider selling it on "Offer Up" or "Craig's List". Being a tech professional, I couldn't let this problem get the best of me. Especially since I couldn't feel good about selling a semi-bricked device. After futal researching on this forum and general searches on Google, a thought entered my mind. Why not try to do a System Restore. It made sense that good old Microsoft was pushing out updates which must have been the cause of these problems. Sure enough, rolling back to the original state when I purchased it made everything work again. However, I failed to realize that M$ was going to bite me again. Sure enough they did it again. Now, I realized that I must disable M$ Updates from j... Read more

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in so I hope this is correct.  I have been having an issue with my Yoga 3 1170 for the past three weeks where it randomly goes into sleep mode and I have to wait a few seconds until the power button starts to blink, the only way to bring it back is to push the power button and it takes me back to the sign-in screen.  I have tried reseting my power settings several times, at first I thought it was a overheating issue but it happens sometimes as soon as I turn it on and I've tried to set the laptop on an exterior fan, nothing seems to solve the issue. This isn't just happening while the computer is idol, I will frequently be in the middle of typing something and it will just go to sleep. It seemes to be happening more frequently but there isn't any particular activity that triggers it. It also happens when it's plugged in and when it's operating off the battery. It can sometimes go hours between sleep mode and other times it will happen several times a minute.  When I bring it back from one of these crashes the Event Viewer shows these errors: PLCoreService 0 (usually repeated 5 or 6 times) DistributedCom 10016DistributedCom 10010 Any suggestions are appreciated! I've run out of trouble-shooting options!
