File transfer between Android device and Win 7 64 bit Home Preimium

Q: File transfer between Android device and Win 7 64 bit Home Preimium

I did not know where to put this so moderatoers if you need to move it please do. I am trying to transver files from my pc to a Viewsonic G tablet but my FTP software wants to open it and it keeps getting errors about establishing a connection. The problem is I do not want the FTP to open it, I want it to open normally with windows explorer. I have just gotten it back (the tablet) after a warranty repair but before I sent it in I had been experimenting with Filezilla and it must have become the default program for opening the Viewsonic. How do I set it back to Windows Explorer being the default program? Thanks

Preferred Solution: File transfer between Android device and Win 7 64 bit Home Preimium

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is not exactly what you were asking for, but I have had good luck transferring PC files to the phone with this tool. The Swiss File Knife ( Free Instant Web Server for Windows/Linux file transfer: sfk httpserv )is a free program that I have used for several years, that is a command line utility that includes a HTTP server. It allows selecting a folder on my PC, and making the files in it accessible to my phone over the LAN by entering the 192.168.0.xxx address in the phone browser.

I have 4 android devices and I have a Dell laptop running on Windows 8. Whenever I connect any of my devices to laptop it gets detected. But whenever I try to move file to and fro, the windows explorer just restarts all by itself and no transfer takes. I tried doing the same using my office laptop running on windows 8 and works perfectly fine. So something must be wrong with laptop. Is there anything I need to do my laptop to fix this? Somebody please me out with this.

I recently transfered my files and settings to another computer via a network. I then reformatted my laptop with windows xp home edition. I tried to recover my USMT2.UNC file from my desktop, but it fialed. The path is visible however the wizards keeps saying that it is not found and that the folder is empty. The folder is not empty tho it has two fiels in it, USMT2.UNC and STAUS fiels are in there.

Any ideas as to what i may be doing wrong?

Just reading here:

I ran into the same problem a while back. The probelm is that you are using
and used two different versions of the FST Wizard. I assume when you
reformatted the new drive and loaded XP you did all the latest Windows
updates? If so see if you installed KB896344. This is an upgrade of the FSTW
and if you used an older version to export your settings you must use the
same version to import them. You have two choices here. Either upgrade the
old computer with the KB896344 and rerun the FTSW or downgrade the newer one
and remove KB896344.Click to expand...

Right at the bottom it mentions that the Transfer wizard may be old, so take a look at this:

Good afternoon everyone.

I am having a small problem on my home network that is driving me crazy...as if having a home network wasn't enough. Any way, I have everything up and running. Everything sees everything else.... I can download from one machine to the other..

BUT.... I can't upload to the other machine or vice versa! I can only pull not push the data. I can't figure out where the sharing properties are snagging the situation. I have everything shared / users can modify data etc... but to no avail.

Any thoughts? Is this not a sharing issue? Is it a router issue? Zone alarm doesn't appear to be the issues because I shut it down and end up with the same results.

Your held would be much appreciated.

Just installed Win7 64 Home Pro from XP two days ago.
The last remaining issue I need to solve is a drag and drop file transfer to my other home network computer (HNC).

So far I've been able to d&d files from the HNC via Acronis WD in it's explorer mode without any issues, some sized in the multi Gb range. I've been also able to d&d small files directly to the HNC successfully.

When I try to d&d a large file, specifically my NVIDIA drivers sized at 123Mb the Win7 computer freezes immediately. The cursor is stuck and the computer is absolutely locked, the only thing that works to recover it is the power off button.
When I come back I don't get any indication of anything going wrong and if I look on the HNC drive the file has been transferred successfully!

I haven't tried copying files to the HNC via Acronis WD yet so I don't know if it will be able to write to it.

The HNC computer has not caused any issues in the past with XP, it's running Ubuntu Linux.

Thanks for anyone's input.

A:Home Network Large File Transfer Lockup

As a suggestion, test what happens when you attempt the drag 'n' drop operation in [safe mode + net].

The most likely problem causes are a bad anti-virus filter driver, or a NIC driver which needs updating.

I'm a absolute begginer at LAN, so I would like a neat step by step how to share files between my two PC's (XP Home and W2000 Pro).

I'm using a Gigaset SE555WLAN router and I need to send/transfer some files from 2000 machine on XP...

Please explain it to me once, so I don't ever ask it again

A:Begginer help - LAN - setting up for file transfer (XP Home to W2000 Pro)

First get both computers to the point where they are connected to the router (e.g., have internet access through the router).

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of Win 2k Pro or XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a Windows PC without the above versions.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2) will be properly configured by the wizard. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

The Shared Documents folder is automatically shared. Any other folders or printers you want to share, just right click on them and sharing ... .

When you first go into My Network Places there will be nothing there. The first time you click on 'View Workgroup computers' will probably result in great disappointment. It takes awhile (20 minutes; even hours) before all the computers in the workgroup get up-to-date and accurate lists of the other computers. Often you can speed up this process via Search for other computers, and a few computer restarts.

When computers show up in My Network Places, double click on one to see its shares. If that includes a printer, you can right click on the printer to connect to it.

So, I know that at one point in the past my Home Network File Transfer Speeds use to be better than what I'm getting at the moment.

I'm by no means Network Savvy, so please bare with me. I know enough just to get into trouble.

Question 1
From what I've been told your Home Network Speeds can be put to a screeching halt if you have a device that is particularly slower than most of your other devices (ie. a 802.11b device where most of the devices on your network are /g or /n. or a 10/100 device where most others are 10/100/1000) Is this true?

My Setup:
I have 2 fairly new Toshiba Satellite Laptops (802.11n) that are almost always connected via WiFi and not LAN.
I have 1 D-Link DIR 865L AC Router centrally located in my home for the best reach of signals.
I have 1 WD My Book Live 2TB NAS connected directly to my Router via Ethernet.
I have 1 Samsung Series 6 Smart TV
I have 1 D-Link Baby Monitor connected via WiFi (802.11b I "THINK")
I have 1 iPad Mini, 1 iPhone 6, and 1 Samsung Galaxy S5 that are all also connected.
All my Ethernet Cable is Cat 5e, hard to find 6 where I live.
My Router Channel is manually set to 11 (best possible) due to conflicting Home Networks around my area.
Router Mode is set to Mixed Mode (a, b, g, n) All of my devices except our 2 phones fall into this category.
Both of my Computers are joined in a Home Group.

Now, here are my current speeds.

Hi guys,

Here is the deal! I have Windows Home Server on one computer and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on other. If I try to transfer file from WHS to WIN7, to transfer wont start. It hangs on "calculating". Sometimes is starts, but crashes pretty fast.

If I upload from WIN7 to WHS, it works. If I download from Ubuntu (samba) to WIN7 it works. Everything works, BUT transfer from WHS to WIN7. I also cant stream video or music, it just wont work.

My WIN7 has motherboard Asus P5K with Atheros L1 gigabit NIC. Router is D-link DWL-4300 with newest firmware.

Any good ideas what to try. Problem definately seems to be between WHS and WIN7. since everything else seems to work. I'm really open for good ideas here guys

OKay anyone tell me if this makes sense. I have XP Home SP2 and I have XP pro SP2. THe XP Home SP2 is a clients but my own PC's are XP Pro SP2.

The Client has an old Windows 98 that we want to get all the settings off of. I have used the FAST (files and settings transfer wizard). When I make a wizard disk with XP home SP 2 it makes the disk but when ran the setup stops right after the first opening screen telling me the Scan cannot continue.

Now here is the wierd part. I CAN run the same wizard on my XP Pro PC and it will run just fine. THe problem is when I copy over the USMT data to the new PC XP Home it tells me it was created with a different version and will not restore!

So to sum up.
Old system - Win 98 - Will Run XP FAST disk from XP Pro but not from XP Home.
New System - XP home will not restore a USMT made from a Windows XP Pro SP 2 Wizard disk.

Any thoughts? The main thing i would like to avoid - Installing any of these documents to my own computers.

I was wondering if you think copying the USMT directory from the XP pro SP2 to the XP Home SP2 and then running the wizard from that may work?

Hi there

Transferring files from Windows to (or From) a Sammy S5 phone's external micro SDHC card seems to take for ever.

Using Linux (Opensuse or Linux Mint) the device immediately comes up as an MTP device and transfer is around 7 mb/s which is fine for a Micro sdhc card.

Have I got something screwed on the Windows system -- it doesn't recognize the device as an MTP device - it just seems to recognize the internal card as another Disk -- but so SLOOOOOOOOOOW !!!!.

CarolineCross Unless Samsung has changed their defaults, photos and videos are stored in the phone's internal file system, not to the cloud. Also, there is not one single "cloud"; instead, there are many different ones, and which one you use depends on the app you use on the phone. For example, when you save contacts, they are stored in the Google "cloud". I use MyBackupPro to store stuff and it has its own "cloud" which is separate from all the others. Most likely, you will have to log into the cloud service you use from a Browser on the HP laptop and retrieve the media files that way, as the Android apps on your phone don't run on the laptop. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

Hi I have setup a n54l hp micro server with windows 8 as my home server and shared a folder with password protection set to off (needed to enable guest account for this to work btw which seemed strange)

Now file transfer between my windows pcs is fast (30MB/s over wifi) but to my android phone and tablet the speed is horribly slow (30kb/s i.e. 1000x slower)

Before I used a readynas duo as my file server and my transfer speeds with my phone were about 0.5MB/s and on pc about 5/MB/s

I have tried different applications on my phone with no change in speed (currently using es file explorer)

A:Transfer iPhone game apps to Android phone

I think iPhone and Andriods have different OS architectures. Thus transferring the app from iPhone would not run on the Andriod.

If the games are online games, your game state might be saved online, and there might be no need to transfer. Just download the Andriod version and sign in. See if progress is the same.

I have an old desktop PC running Windows 98SE, and I want to transfer data (documents, photos, email messages and addresses in Outlook Express 6, and my bookmarks from Mozilla Firefox) to my new desktop PC- which is running Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) - and I prefer to try and do the transfer on my own.

I know there are many different ways to transfer data to a new PC, but I have never done a transfer of data before, and I am thinking I may want to use a device called the "Tornado File Transfer" which plugs into the USB ports of two PCs, at which point a split screen is supposed to appear that shows everything in both PCs. One is then able to just drag and drop what they want, to the new PC. I have read several reviews on CNET and Amazon, and a few other places, and they are very positive... and it seems the easiest way to go for a total novice like me.

The Tornado device says it will work with Windows 98SE, but I have to download the drivers for Win98SE from their website, once I purchase the device. It also gives other minimum specifications, which include needing Processor: 166 Mhz or above
Memory: 128 MB or higher
I looked up the memory on my old pc that runs Win98SE, and it says I only have 96 mb of RAM.

Now here's the deal: I recall a few years ago, when my PC crashed, that I'd taken it to a computer store to have it repaired, and I could have sworn that they'd added more memory to it at that time.... so I am wondering that... Read more

The folks over at Live Gooroo have come up with a way of diagnosing and repairing most problems that plague your PC today. While that in itself would be noteworthy, the part that?s really interesting is that they diagnose and repair your PC via an app on a connected Android device.

A:Repair your PC from your Android device

Soooo.... it's an app you DL on your phone that places a windows executable in your sd card which you can then run from your PC when you connect your phone to your PC which then installs/runs the antimalware program...

That is if the virus lets you access your USB port and doesn't then try to infect your phone

Hello everyone!

I have a question: is it possible to "synchronize" Windows 8 / 8.1 (but also possibly Windows 7) with an Android smartphone?

Let me explain: I would like that if I set a reminder with your smartphone, I'll be back even when I log on to Windows, a bit 'as is the case with iOS + OSX.
I know that you can not synchronize your Google Calendar with Windows 8, if not connecting to the google account to hotmail, but there is another way that you know?

It would be nice to also sync the photos you snap with your cell phone with the gallery of Windows 8, using Google Drive, but I guess now I ask a bit 'too much, however, a synchronization in Apple style is that possible?

I have no problem to "do everything by hand," but I was wondering if there is a faster way to do the whole thing ....

Thank you in advance !!

1) Security is not essential for anything - you can run Windows fine without any AV or security but you just need to be extremely careful.
2) Android Devices can get infected pretty easily thanks to the Google Play store letting in malicious applications - IOS doesn't have this issue.
3) If you are infected on your Android device then download stuff like:

- MalwareBytes
- Emsisoft or Kaspersky AV
They can be found within the Google Play Store!

Good morning friends, this question might fall under networking or mobile devices, but I think it's more a PC question. My goal is to forge a setup where I am able to conveniently stream media from my home media PC to my Android smartphone (Galaxy 3S). I am currently able to stream video to my phone while I'm at home on my Wi-Fi connection using the "Nearby Devices" option in the phone that appears to engage DLNA. When I do this, I get the option to stream from Windows Media Player's streaming system. My question then is how do I access my home PC information while mobile-browsing? I've got 4G service (big deal....) and would like the ability to access my home content while on the go. From my limited understanding of this goal, I see the option of using a VPN or something of that nature to create a secure connection through the computer's firewall so I can access the media server; is this going to work? Would this essentially be considered a "remote desktop" scenario? Asked another way: is a remote desktop connection a VPN?I'm looking for some suggestions on how to pull this off. If you have suggestions, like "use this VPN and open these ports and blah blah blah", I'd need some how-to because I've never tried to do this. I know a person can buy some programs that say they will take care of doing this, but how hard can it be? It's just a client-server relationship between the phone and the PC, right? Ope... Read more

This is definitely a Windows 10 thing. If I connect either my Nexus 5 or my LG G4 to my PC via USB the phone is recognized. I can see it in Windows Explorer but clicking on it does nothing, no access to files.

Before I made the jump from Vista to Windows 10 it worked fine. There has to be some setting someplace. I did apply a hotfix (KB3099229_x64) which was supposed to fix the issue. It did not!

If there's some trick to it could you share it with me???

Thanks for you help way in advance!

A:Android device recognized but cannot access files on it

Are you sure you switched your phone to "File transfer" mode, as opposed to "Charging only" mode? Because this is exactly what happens when you connect an Android phone in "Charging only" mode: it becomes visible in Windows (e.g. in File Explorer), but shows as empty device - no file access.

In standard cookie-cutter Android Marshmallow you are supposed to manually switch the phone to "File transfer" mode every time you connect it to the computer. (Before Marshmallow it was possible to set a default mode, but for some reason they removed that capability in Marshmallow).

I want to root my android device for a few good reasons. Firstly, I want to be able to have a firewall that is on 24/7. I can not use a no-root firewall as it won't allow me to use a VPN. Secondly, I want to delete the bloatware that comes preinstalled with the device. It takes up space and acts as spyware. I want to move as far away from Google and Samsung applications as possible. The only reason I am using Android over Replicant or LineageOS is simply because I want to be able to install apps from the Playstore. If there were a way to install Android apps on Replicant OS, I would make the switch in a heartbeat. But since that isn't the case, I want to root my device to then modify it to match my needs.

So should I root my device? Or are there other ways to get what I want?

Hi All,

First post - thanks in advance for reading!

So I am having trouble getting my email to "sync" properly between three devices (using quotes because I don't actually want to sync, I believe):
1) Gmail web interface (used on remote computers - library, friends' homes, etc);
2) Outlook mail client (home desktop computer);
3) Android email app (phone).
I would like Outlook on my home desktop computer to be the final destination - this is where I do most of my work and I prefer the functionality of Outlook. I have been trying to set this up so that I can access and delete mail from either the web or phone, but whatever remains in my inbox will wind up in Outlook next time I open it - and once downloaded by outlook will no longer appear on Gmail / Phone.

Currently its all awry. Mostly the Gmail /Outlook arrangement works, except that every message I send to others in Gmail also winds up in my Outlook inbox. Annoying but bearable. The phone is the real problem, though, messages that go to the phone stay on the phone and cannot be retrieved by either Gmail or Outlook, without manual forwarding.
Currently, I have Gmail set up to use POP and to delete messages from Gmail once they have been downloaded with POP. I have my phone set up to use POP, with sync off (though manually syncing seems to make no difference), and to never delete messages from the server.

Also, I would rather not use the gmail android app because I can either sync mail and con... Read more

A:Gmail (web) + Desktop Client + Android device. Help!

Not helpful, but know you're not alone. I have a similar setup to yours (except I use Thunderbird as my home email client).

That being said, I've never been able to "streamline" mine either. I believe this is largely dependent on the push or pull times (whether the client or server is responsible I don't know).

But even with just my Android phone and the web app, the result of deleting an email on my phone does not immediately delete an email on the web app. I often have to wait a while, or even separately delete the email again on the web app for it to take effect.

I have 2 PCs, both running XP Pro SP2.
One is mine and one is my wife?s.
Both are connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 v3 router which is then connected to a cable modem.
Both can connect at high speed to the internet.
Both are on the same workgroup and have unique names.
They can see each other in the workgroup.
They can ping each other.
I can browse all shared drives in both directions from both PCs.
Everything seems to be working perfectly except if I try and transfer a file from my PC to my wife?s it takes approx 2 minutes per MB. However if I transfer a file the other way it works flawlessly and at high speed.

I have checked that all the required services are running and that there is only one master browser.

I have changed all the cables and tried different ports on the router.

NetMeter shows a maximum transfer speed of about 250kbps and the networking tab in task manager shows a network utilization of only 1%

Any advice would be gratefully received, as this is slowly driving me insane.

A:Slow file transfer in one direction, quick transfer the other way!

You should try data transfer using something other than WInbdows Networking. Set up some FTP server software for example. This way you can see if the problem is with the network or with Windows.

Disable software firewalls and antivirus on the computers?

My last problem was solved and everything works fine now. I need the documents and emails from the old computer. I have it on my external and made a copy to my root C drive.

The problem is that I used Windows file transfer 7 and I want the files back to my Vista computer that I reinstalled. When I use Windows file transfer I get an error message that says I should choose a valid file.

What can I do?

Look here & try the software suggested: -

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.. I didn't really know what to put it under..

I was upgrading my system, from XP to Vista. I tried the 'keep all my current files and settings' option for the upload, but it wouldn't let me use it.
So, I used the file and settings transfer wizard to transfer all my files to my external hard drive. Then I deleated my files on my computer - no point in having two copies. (I now know how stupid this idea was).
When I had successfuly uploaded Widows vista onto my computer, I found that it didn't actualy have the files and settings transfer wizard - it had something called 'Easy Transfer' instead. Easy tranfer is incompatible with the File and settings transfer wizard.

So, now all my files are sitting on my Hard drive in .dat files, and I don't know how to get them back.

Help me please.

A:File and Settings Transfer Wizard vs. Easy Transfer

you could download and install FAST to complete the transfer. i know that solves the problem when migrating from one XP /SP combination to another, perhaps it will work for an XP to Vista migration too. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...c9-f16c-4c52-a203-8daf944dd555&displaylang=en

I recently made my annual Christmas e card with an embedded midi file, works great in IE but does not on my Kindle Fire. I know this is off-topic for this forum but I can't find help anywhere else. Does anyone know the code for embedded midi's that will play on a Kindle? I know my Kindle can play a midi because I downloaded one to test it. I just can't hear it in the webpage.

Any help at all is appreciated!

A:Embedded Midi Files Windows 7 vs Android Device

are you using the stock browser and is your ecard in flash? try boat browser or flashfox, also what OS version is the Kindle Fire?
EDIT: that is more of a question for your tablet over at XDA but I would probably just answer it there anyway.

I have newfolder.exe virus in external drive of my android phone. It doesn't allow me to delete any data on it. Whatever I delete, reappears again.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed on my Windows 7 machine. As soon I connect my phone to USB mass storage it detects and delete it. But then again appears if I disconnect from PC.
I am able to open task manager, registry editor etc. (I read generally this virus doesn't allow to open these things.) I am not able to see any autorun.inf file on that external drive. I tried to format the drive two-three times. On PC it shows like drive is empty, but as soon as I connect it my phone all data reappears. That microsd card is 7 GB and 5GB is occupied. Tried to scan the android using avg and avast scanner available from Google Play Store.
Any thing else I need to do. Not able to figure out how to solve this issue.

I have set up my connection as per the following article

The netsh commands I used are:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MyWlan key=qwertyui keyUsage=persistent

netsh wlan start hostednetwork
The difference is:
a) I am sharing a USB modem connection
b) I have turned off Windows Firewall ( I use Comodo nternet Security)
I have a dell n5010 laptop using Windows 8.

When I tried to connect my Android device to it, the device simply gets stuck at the "Obtaining IP address step"
I decided to use a Blackberry device and the same error occurred.
To be doubly sure, I even used another Laptop running Windows XP SP3 to connect to the hostednetwork, even it got stuck at the "Obtaining IP address" part for some time. Then it got connected with "Limited or no connectivity" status.

A:HostedNetwork is Set up, Android device is unable to obtain IP Address

The following procedure worked for me.
1) Disable Internet Connection Sharing from your modem connection -> properties -> Sharing Tab
2) Enable it again.
3) Disconnect from the Internet.
4) Reconnect again
5) Restart ICS service from the "services.msc" window.
6) Stop the hostednetwork
7) Start the hostednetwork
8) Internet Sharing is now enabled and everything gets resolved.

Hello. I need a mobile WiFi device, is a Pocket WiFi practically the same thing as any Android or iPhone that could serve as a personal hotspot? In terms of the signal strength and reliability.

When I access ANY website or services on any other portable devices with the WiFi provided by the Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot, I know that a website or service could trace or fingerprint my portable device that accesses the sites or services, but would the websites or services be able to trace or fingerprint my Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot as well?
