Problems Using Windows Live Mail on Vista 64

Q: Problems Using Windows Live Mail on Vista 64

The download agent seems to work fine installing the Live suite of programs on my Vista-64 system. I can use Messenger without any problems, and can get to my hotmail account through Internet Explorer just fine.

However when I go to use the Live Mail application a box comes up that say Windows is "configuring my system" then disappears with nothing else happening. The application never actually loads. I test the Windows Live mail on my laptop with XP and it works great. Any ideas what the hangup is on Vista 64.

I have 4GB of RAM, Pentium Quad Extreme processor, 320GB HD system.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Kristian,

Have you tried restarting the computer to make sure the installation finished it's process. Sometimes when you install a suite of programs like this, it may require multiple restarts to finish.

If that does not work, then you might try uninstalling Windows Live Mail and then reinstall it again by itself.

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.

Note: Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.
Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.

I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

So...

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.
I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)
What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost.

A:Solved: Troubles transferring Windows Mail Vista to Win7 Windows Live Mail 2011

I get a little nauseous just thinking about Windows Live Mail 2011, much less expending effort to use it, but I would try installing it on the Vista and see if it has the option right up front of importing stuff from Windows Mail. If it does, and happens to work correctly, then all you would have to do is find its files and copy them over.

By the way, are you putting on airs with "Addias" transfer? We plebeians just used "sneaker net."

Short Question: Is there any possible way to use Mail Merge in Microsoft Office 2007 with Windows Live Mail?

Notes: Using Windows 7 computer. Windows Live Mail is being used as a program to send the emails out. Microsoft Excell is used to supply the email addresses. It is not an address book problem.

If it is possible to use Mail Merge through WLM, then my next question is:

Long Question: How do I fix my problem?I am using Microsoft Word 2007 to open a short document (.doc).
I am using a Microsoft Excell 2007 spreadsheet (.xlsx) as a database for names and email addresses. [I have tried both .docx and .xls and all combinations of the 4 to try to fix this. None seemed to work, so I reverted to the files' original extensions.]
I go through the Mail Merge steps without any issues. I can see the document. I can see where the merged names will be inserted. I can preview individual letters to see the names inserted correctly. I can also manage the contacts - and select which emails the Mail Merge should be sent to.
As a test, I select only my name. I send out the Mail Merge to the emails as all 3 format options with the subject of "test".

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit and recently, whenever I send/receive emails from windows mail, I get an error message. Microsoft suggested I try Live Mail instead (naturally) and the same thing happens:

The connection to the server has failed.
Subject ''
Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10013

I tried enabling windows firewall and disabling Norton firewall/email scanning with no results. I have another computer with vista whose mail was working fine... until about a day or so later, then I started getting the same thing. This has happened before, but had resolved itself (how, I don't know).

Wassup?!?!?

UPDATE 11/6/09: I contacted my server provider and they suggested to change my outgoing smtp port (in my case from 25 to 80, but I think different services are, well... different). That's in Tools> Accounts> Properties> Advanced. This did the trick!

A:windows vista mail/live mail

Try uninstalling the email account and then reinstalling it. Sometimes the incoming and outgoing servers can get corrupted. Usally if there is no patch for it a quick uninstall and reinstall of email acount will fix it.

My system crashed yesterday and although I managed to get it to restore to a previous restore point it has lost most of the Windows Live Mail and Calendar information
What remained of Windows Live Mail did not have an Inbox
Many of the Storage Folders have lost all or most of the saved messages.
I saved what messages I could by exporting the messages and tried to repair the Windows Live Mail using the Windows Live Essentials 2011 utility in the Control Panel. This failed.
I managed to remove Windows Live Mail using the Windows Live Essentials 2011 utility.
I then tried to reinstall Windows Live Mail using the Turn Windows Features On or Off using the Control Panel but Windows Live Mail does not appear in the list of features!!

I do not care particularly what Email program I use provided that it works!

I would also like to recover the lost emails and candar information if at all possible.

During the restoration, Norton Internet Security (which is my antivirus program) said there was a clash with AVG free and I tried to remove AVG free. I note that the System Info does not mention Norton.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but maybe you can try right clicking on your task bar and click on "lock the task bar" (it will leave a check mark next to that option). If it works, I will also learn what that particular option is for too! Have a nice day.

I have been using Windows Live Mail's desktop app for quite some time & it worked beautifully. Now, only a month after receiving my brand new 3 gig HP laptop, and after a couple weeks with no problems, I am now consistently having WLM freeze up and I cannot get out of it w/out using the task mgr.

What is the difference? My new laptop is Vista & the old one is XP. I still have the old one, and WLM still works great on it. When searching for a solution, all I can find is complaints & no real answers.

If anyone has found a solution to this yet, please help!!

I tried and tried but was unsuccessful so I uninstalled Windows 10 and reloaded Windows 7 but my e-mail wasn't completely there. There is a 30 day window when upgrading from WIN7 to WIN10 to revert back. If you did not use this function to revert back to previous OS but rather actually did an uninstall of WIN10 and clean install of WIN7 then you'll probably have to re-enter your Comcast account, call them and explain the situation.

It has not gone into Junk. Some mail from one source come sin fine then for no apparent reason some does not! I have checked all settings andam completely stuck. An intermittent problem is the worse kind
I am able to send mail from all my accounts - it is just receiving that is intermittent

A:Windows live mail problems

I have to make some assumptions:
1) You're using WLM (the program) not Hotmail (the website).
2) You set up POP3 or IMAP accounts for the VirginMedia mail server in WLM.
3) You went to the VirginMedia webmail website and can read all the mail on their website.
4) Some of that mail is visible (IMAP) or downloadable (POP3) in WLM but some is not.

If all the above is true, you do indeed have a very strange problem.

Ever since I installed Windows 7, I've been experiencing interminable problems with Live Mail. Sometimes, it doesn't load at all, sometimes a simple action like opening a folder provokes a "not responding" status, which even Task Manager can't seem to terminate. Worse, that then locks the computer and prevents a shut down........."Shutting Down" remains permanently, after which I have to switch off manually, which probably makes the problem worse.

I've reinstalled Windows 7 several times, reinstalled Live Mail, repaired Live Mail etc. Nothing seems to work.

Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot the problem would be much appreciated.

Since you already reinstalled, you need to try more drastic actions. First make a sytem restore point, right now. Now research for another good mail application. I personally suggest Thunderbird, but there are many others. Give the new mail service a try. It will probalby work better and you will be satisfied. If that does not solve your problem. You can make Windows Live mail, your default service again and you lost nothing. If you prefer you can uninstall Thunderbird or use the system restore point that you created to return to present day.

I am getting a "Message Character Set Conflict" when I am trying to reply to a reply to a message I have originated. The message I get says, " This message contains some text having a character set other than the default character set. When sending this message you have the following options:
Send as unicode
Send as is
Cancel
In my original text I can see little squares where I have originally typed line feeds and also where I have typed apostrophes.

I am also having another problem on another computer using Windows Live Mail where emails to a particular "to:" address comes back with a format problem. All other emails are sent OK and when I send to that particular addressee with my desktop, the email sends fine.

I have a feeling that both of these problems are related to some setting in Windows Live mail, but I can 't determine where.

When I start WLM I get the inbox, then the sign-in screen, then the WLM "Checking for new mail on Hotmail", then a log-in screen for Hotmail. Entering the password in the Hotmail log-in & checking ok will remove the screen but then it returns. Cancelling it removes it. The WLM "Checking for new messages in Hotmail" now states "Some errors occured while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below for more details." No errors are shown. I removed this by closing it. The WLM sign-in screen is still present, when the password is entered, it disappears. I still have the inbox with e-mails showing but not accessable. Has anyone had a problem like this and is there a fix for it? This is my first post & am new to the Forum. Thanks. brusk124

A:Windows live mail problems

"I still have the inbox with e-mails showing but not accessable."

If the email is in your inbox it sounds like it has already been downloaded via Hotmail's DeltaSync protocol, described below, so I don't understand what you mean by "not accessible". What happens when you try to open an email in the inbox associated with your Hotmail account?

DeltaSync - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
" Using the DeltaSync protocol, Microsoft intends to provide a common platform for any compatible device to implement a client which can two-way synchronize mail, contacts, calendar and notes."

Hi: I'm posting this question here in Vista-ville seeking some help for my daughter who is having difficulties emailing photos as attachments to email messages or by selecting them in their respective folders and selecting 'email file'. She says that W.L.M. won't send the photo files but instead a new window opens inviting her to sign into her windows live account and enable something called 'Sky Drive', where full resolution photos are saved online for recipients to view after they review the thumbnail images they receive of the same photo files in the emails. Her question is this: Can she uninstall W.L.M. without losing her saved email messages and then re-install W.L.M. and choose not to install the items that seem to be creating the problems for her. She is using an HP Desktop with the Vista operating system and has all updates current. If there is any more information you might need I can get it from her once you specify what it might be.

A:windows live mail problems

Apparently there are a lot of people that hate the stupid Skydrive thing. Also MS has foisted it on people and does not give them the option of getting rid of it. There are several workarounds in this thread:

How to disable Skydrive and photo album in WLM 2011 - Windows 7 Forums

I installed WLM and refused to use it immediately. I use Thunderbird, which is not great, but better than WLM. Outlook Express and Windows Mail worked perfectly, which is why Microsoft ruined them, just like they did the file "search" feature from XP. (I keep all these things firmly in mind while reading posts from people advocating MS and other multinational monopoly's "rights".)

As I skimmed the thread from the link, the most viable option seems to be to switch from a hotmail account to something else, such as gmail. While WLM and Skydrive might be inextricably fused together, Skydrive seems to only be able to work with hotmail/MS controlled email accounts, so to my thinking the solution is to get as far away from MS as you possibly can, and switch to an infinitely better email service, gmail.

Otherwise, it seems you can side-step the Skydrive requirement by "inserting" or 'attaching" the image files, vs. whatever the other option is that gives so many people so much trouble. I think post #17 in particular was the "shining moment" in the thread when people discovered a way out of the private hell that MS had constructed for them.

IMAP stays on the server. If you can change it to POP3, I think you would be happy with the results. I do not know if AOL allows POP.

Hi, I am new here and joined this forum because of this particular problem. I apologize if this issue has been addressed in the past. Here is the problem...
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on my laptop and I am trying to use Windows Live Mail since Outlook Express or Windows Mail is no longer available once you upgrade to W7.
When I try to send email to people by typing in their email addresses, Windows Live Mail will not send the email unless that email address is in my list of contacts. I am currently trying to send an email to 15 people who are not in my contacts and I don't feel like adding all of them to my contact list when I may never email all of them again. Is there a setting I can click so that WLM will no longer verify email addresses before sending the message?
Outlook Express doesn't do this and I am getting really frustrated by this WLM issue. Thanks in advance for your help

Hi wearelove! Welcome to SevenForums.

I have just tried to do what you are attempting to do and it worked perfectly. Are you getting an error message or warning of any type when you try to enter the "new" names into the "To:" bar?

Are you trying to send the mail to all 15 people at once? If so, try sending to 2 or 3 at a time and see if that works?

Suggestions :

1. Install Malwarebytes anti-malwares program, and run it. It is one of the best in the business.
Here is the link for free malwarebytes :
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (free)

2. Run a system file check to look for and repair corrupt files.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

3. All else fails....
Copy down the account settiongs of your e-mail account > remove the account from WLM > reboot > open WLM again > re-configure the same e-mail account with the same settings.
Test to see if you can open mails now.

A:Problems with my Windows Live Mail

If it is showing mail is there but it's not displaying it then it is likely that only the "header" information has been downloaded and the actual message is still pending. I remember having to ask it to check the mail again and let it download again and quit all internet apps (especially if on a slow connection). I'm assuming you're using WLM with hotmail so whatever is marked as junk by hotmail will be classified as junk on your desktop client of WLM. If it's some other service, it happens with all of them. Just mark as "Not junk" and won't happen again with that sender.

I am using Windows 7 which apparently comes with Windows Live and have had this system for a couple of years now. Charter Communications has been my provider and I have had no problem with the Windows Live setup for my email other than getting accustomed to the format. Once I learned it though, I found it exceptionally easy with lots of options. Last week I changed over to AT&T Uverse to take advantage of a bundle promotion. I wanted to continue to use my Windows Live Mail. I can still use it for everything but sending. When I try to send I get the error message showing connection to server has failed. "Error ID 0x800CCC0E - Protocol SMIP Port 25". I have no desire to use the AT&T yahoo mail which requires going to their site and repeatedly signing in amongst other limitations though I'm willing to use the AT&T email address I set up if necessary. Does AT&T or Yahoo not support Windows Live maybe? Neither the nice representative who came out and signed me up nor the equally nice rep who came out and set me up broached this subject. Is this an easily correctable problem without me reverting to or getting another provider? I'm admittedly not tech saavy and hope that someone could explain this to me in layman's terms. I would much appreciate anyone's advice.

I am considering migrating to microsoft outlook 2007.I am not sure whether this will solve my problem. but I don't know how to export/import my current inbox .

When receiving larger emails the last part of the text is missing. When composing emails text tends to disappear

A:Problems with Windows Live Mail

Hello, Welcome to Sevenforums!

1. Reinstall WLM
Download: Mail - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

2. What size are the emails? They may be too large.

We appear to have a dodgy connection with talktalk server - this has been happening for a few weeks - affecting random emails - but now we've completely lost the connection - and talktalk swear there is no problem their end. We get 2 windows - first one is Log-on talktalk with user-name and password all filled in and it says "Next time you log on you'll have to fnput your password. This window has appeared quite a bit but usually you could close down, go back in to WLM and all would be well - no window - tho' sometimes you had to wait till next day - or till Mon if it was the weekend. Re passwords, talktalk made me change it yesterday - I've obviously tried putting thecnew one in - no change.
The 2nd window is Windows Live Mail error message - which says that an incorrect password was entered - not true.
Any ideas, please, anyone? I know I can use Webmail but I use email a lot for various committees - folders etc - and WLM is also easier for me to read - I have macular degeneration.

I use Windows 7 Live Mail RSS feed. It used to work fine but now when I get messages from some providers I only get the leading header in the message box instead of an HTML display of the article. I've been through every menu I can find and tried everything to no avail. Help!

A:Windows 7 Live Mail RSS Problems

My understanding is that is how it works, it does on mine, you bring in the Feeds which give you, in the Folder list column all the new messages, then in the preview pane the leading header, as you call it, but there should also be a link that you click which takes you online to the full article.

I am having endless problems with Windows Live Mail. It continually shuts down unexpectedly. In addition, often a reply I have sent, disappears off the screen leaving the original email only and saying it has not sent the reply - but it has. I have Version 11 of Windows Live Mail.  OS is Windows Vista.  Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

I have Windows Live Mail on Windows 7. I can open it and receive emails with no problem but I cannot reply, forward or compose a new email. The screen remains on the opened email. However, when I close the application, I get new screens popping up with whatever command I used whilst in the programme. I have also tried using the control keys (with N or R) to get it to work but that doesn't happen either.
Can anyone suggest a solution please.
Thank you.

This has been discussed before in the Windows 7 forum, but I can't find anything here relating to Vista, and the solutions proposed under 7 don't seem to work for me. Suggestions would be appreciated.

The basic symptoms are that when I receive a nicely laid out email with photos from a friend, into Windows Live Mail, then try to forward it to a friend, I get a message box saying "One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. When you send this message these pictures will not be included. Are you sure you want to send this message?"

If I click "Yes", the pictures are all blank in the body of the email with a red X in the corner, and the pictures are shown as a "slide show" attachment.

I've tried the solution suggested by davehc - once I eventually found where Vista puts the "Options - Compose" feature, yes this is set to "Convert messages to Photo Email when sending Photos".

I've also checked Davehc's point about "Options - Safety options" , opening the security tab and see if you have not inadvertently ticked the squares in "downloaded images".

I can forward the emails through my isp's webmail, but the editing facilities on that are crude: I almoost always have to edit them, if only to expunge the dozens of email addresses that come freee of charge with every one (some people have never heard of "bcc" )

A:Cannot forward images in windows live mail. - Vista

My mother had the same problems when trying to forward photos of my Niece and Nephew I don't have a solution but what I would suggest is to copy the photos to your hard drive open a gmail account then try adding the photos that way I almost never use my live account anymore with gmail you hardly get any spam. Hope this helps

I'm using Windows Live Mail on my PC with Windows 7. When I print an email only the "To/From/Subject" lines are printed but not the body of the email. When I bought the PC and downloaded Windows Live Mail many months ago I could print with no problems.

Any ideas about what I did to cause this problem and how I can fix it?

A:Print Problems - Windows Live Mail

two things to try:

1) Re-install printer driver.
2) Re-install WLM

I've got a problem with importing business cards into Windows Live Mail. I received a business card in .VCF format and tried importing it into WLM but it just says that it's partially imported and doesn't actually import it. I use the 2010 version of WLM even though 2011 is out, I prefer 2010. I can't find a solution online so I'm coming here for help. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

A:.VCF Import Problems, Windows Live Mail

Welcome
I dont use business card with my WLM2011, all I get are bills and few emails from friends. That being said, I do know of this guide that may or may not help
May I suggest, if you give your email address, for this or any other reason online, set up a spam account. You will get all your spam there and your personal mail will stay that personal
Good Luck

I got WLM 2011 installed with an Windows Update..
But I didn't like the new messenger.. So I tried reinstalling the old messenger.
So I uninstalled windows live essentials 2011 and re-checked on updates and selected the first one. These are the windows live essentials from february? 2010.
So I installed those.
And it seemed to be the old windows live messenger with it's tools.
When I installed it, everything seemed fine.
Until I tried my mail with windows live mail...
I can check my e-mail like it should... But when i try to open my agenda.. it says i can't open the folder because it's being used and that i should try again later..
But i doens't make any difference waiting.. I keep getting the error and so i can't check my agenda..
I DO can check my agenda when i take a look at it in my webbrowser...
Also, when i close windows live mail.. I get the popup "Windows Live Mail doesn't work anymore"..

Any solutions on how getting this fixed?

EDIT: I uninstalled the windows live programs and searched in C:\Users\[My user]\AppData\Windows\ en removed everything that has to do with windows live
Windows Live Mail
Credentials
Windows Live Contacts
Messenger
Windows Live
WLSetup

and in the folder LocalLow I deleted
Windows Live
I also deleted in the progdata folder WLSetup..
Hope this helps..
+ Is it safe that i removed these folders? [I got them on my USB drive just in case...]

EDIT 2: It only seems to crash when I tried to open the agenda.. which fails..

Ended up going with Thunderbird, and during that setup Thunderbird acquires the correct server info and displays it. I'm thinking that info would probably work in the Windows Live Mail setup. Just a thought, assuming Thunderbird's info is correct.
