Q: T430s quick battery discharge when laptop sleep

Hi everyone. Best regards from Poland. I had a problem with my T430s (i7,16GB RAM, 250GB SSD). Since 3 months laptop quick drains battery on sleeping mode. I bought new original battery (44mWh) and i had 2 used batteries. When i close screen then laptop go to sleep mode - OK, but when I in the morning opened then i see only 30-40% battery (before 100%).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is it really advisable to let the battery in my laptop completely discharge occasionally? A lot of people seem to say this and I don't see anything in the owner's manual about it.

A:discharge laptop battery?

not just occasionally... you should allow it to fully discharge every time. this is not always possible, but try to as much as you can. rechargeable batteries will hold a longer lasting charge if it goes through a full discharge cycle first.

All rechargeble batteries have a lfe span which is measured by the amount of times that it can be recharged. so naturally if you allow a battery to discharge fully before recharging it, then you reduce the number of times that it is being recharged thus extending it's usable life span.

that being said, leaving a laptop plugged in all the time will kill your battery much faster thn it should because while it will not overcharge your battery, it will keep on recharging it when it loses a little bit of power (and yes, batteries will drain even if you're not using it)

speaking from personal experience with my trusty old Dell Insipron 8000 (don't laugh.. this thing was top of the line 6 years ago and it still works good to this day )... i used to buy a battery for it each year, but after the 2nd battery died, i stopped leaving it plugged in and I let it discharge each time before charging, I'm on the 3rd battery now... the first 2 lasted a year each. but the battery i have now has lasted 4 years and still holds a 2 hour charge. (if I used my laptop every day, which i don't, then it would not last 4 years. but because I allow the battery to go thru full charge and discharge cycles it will still hold a good charge ev... I have changed two batteries since I purchased my Laptop. I bought it 15 months back.
So, I have been going through the things that make my laptop batteries' life short.
After Reading many articles about batteries, I have made some inferences:
1) Internal stress inside the battery will be at peak, when it is Fully charged. Actually keeping it plugged in for long time causes, temperature increase inside the battery and life is reduced.
2) Never bring the battery to discharge fully or below 30%.
3) Plug out the battery when gaming. Keep the battery exposed to lesser than 40 degree celcius.
4) Discharging the battery at higher rate reduce battery life.

SO, Here is what i am doing. I pull out battery while gaming. I never charge more than 85%.
Also need some suggestions from you to increase the battery life.

A possible cause is purchasing "cheap" batteries, which may or may not apply in your case; they can also be a source of extreme overheating which can cause damage to internal parts. The last part is just an FYI.

Many thanks in advance  When on battery, the Internal Battery discharges First, then, the External Battery. I got the machine around a week ago, and my internal battery has already gone through 8 cycles (when reviewed through the Thinkpad Vantage App). Yet, the external batter has only gone through 1 cycle. Given the ease of replacing the external battery, and that Thinkpad advertised a "hot swap" battery bridge feature, I do not find a rational for the current discharging behavior. There is a relevant posts on Reddit, but draining both of my batteries does not get things back to normal.External link: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/83vqj5/t480_internal_battery_draining_first/

When I generate a sleep study, I do get a graph at the top that has SoC percentages, but the table below is mostly empty, e.g. the entire columns "ENERGY CHANGE" and "% CAPACITY REMAINING AT START" only contains "%" signs, but no numbers. Also, the reported changes in mWh are unrealistically small (0-5 mWh even in 6+ hours of Modern Standby, when it should be around 8,000 mWh according to the graph at the top). I'm using Windows Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.316) and a ThinkPad Carbon X1 6th Gen (20KHCTO1WW), all drivers installed via Lenovo Vantage. The battery also appears to have drained quite significantly during 6:55 hrs of Modern Standby, from 94% SoC to 78% (so 16% or 2.28% per hour). In the graph, it shows a red line in that time, indicating "High System Activity". In the details of the standby it states DHCP as the main offender (8%, 33 minutes), but the percentages of the offenders do not sum to 100% (in fact all others have 0%). Edit: powercfg /a reports that S3 is not supported even though I've set it to Windows 10 mode in BIOS. I've also installed the latest BIOS (1.37) to no avail.

On my T470s, the main battery discharges before the replacable battery. As a result, at the moment the discharge count is 9 for the main battery, and 2 for the replacable one. I have been getting this weird charge discharge cycle on my Pavilion 15. I pretty much have my Laptop always plugged in. A couple of days ago it shutdown in a blink even though it was at full charge. Then it would'nt start even when I pressed the power ON button. It started after I took out the battery and put it back in. Ever since then its trapped in a cycle where it always shows "2 mins to charge" in the notification icon and a certain percentage. Then when the percentage hits 100 it stops charging and instead discharges gradually even though it's plugged in. When it hits 0% it shutsdown again and won't start till I take the battery off.  Can someone tell me whether this is a problem with the battery or the charger and how can I fix this. Thanks

Okay, so when I do buy the ASUS g50vt-x1 laptop...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...vt-x1&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1218012519873

...I was wondering if I would be able to easily replace the 6-cell battery with this 9-cell one:
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...de=M50-G50-9-Cell-90-NED1B2100&Category_Code=

Would I be able to do that without much hassle, if at all? Is that 9-cell battery compatible with that laptop? And is it as simple as, say, just plugging in the 9-cell battery instead of the 6-cell, or will it be a technically thorough job that requires screwdriver, nuts and bolts, blah blah blah, etc? And would a 9-cell battery actually give me much of a difference in battery life than a 6-cell? (sorry, lots of questions, I know, lol)

Yeah, sorry, I'm more of a software Geek rather than a hardware Geek, and I'm still trying to get a good grasp of all this. Also seeing how I've always owned a desktop and never a laptop, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also, sorry if this is in the wrong board, I didn't know if it should go under General Hardware or Mobile Computing, but seeing how this is mainly about a battery, I chose General Hardware.

A:Quick Laptop Battery Question

You should be able to... but it depends on the space available... The 9 cell battery sticks out from the laptop a couple of inches on many models... You need to read the specs for you laptop on the ASUS site.

I let the battery die on it and when i plugged it in the next morning to turn it on I get that error message. I tried taking out the hard drive and putting it back in. The BIOS is not seeing any hard drive. It reads "<none>"
I am not sure if the battery discharging has anything to do with it or not.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Internal hard disk drive not found after battery discharge

Faulty HDD Controller but I would have that laptop check out if you can. Most likely it's the MOBO that is to blame. MOBO = Motherboard. See if that was XP not seeing the HDD then you could re-install XP. But you said your BIOS is not seeing the HDD. It could also be your HDD as failed. Normally DELL has a tool that you run to test your system out. This tool is use by DELL Certified Techs to see where your issue is. HDD, MOBO, Battery. Most of the time the MOBO is replaced. Then HDD then the Battery to solve your issue.

I have a T430 that will not boot when the battery is in the laptop.  I thought this was a battery issue so I bought a replacement from Amazon and the problem went away for about 3 months.  Now the issue is back so I ended up buying a new battery directly from Lenovo just to make sure I was getting a good battery.  Last night I put the brand new battery in the laptop and again it will not boot with the battery in. To be clear.  The laptop works fine when it is either docked or plugged in with the battery not installed.  The problem is only when the battery is in the laptop.  It blinks once and then shuts right back down.  I know the battery is good since I bought the brand new one directly from Lenovo.   Any suggestions?

I haven't verified this yet, but I wondered if it's a possible bug?

I bought a Dell XPS M1330 over a year ago and it came preloaded with Vista Home Premium. Since I want to keep the batteries in good condition I run the laptop with no battery connected and AC plugged in whenever it sits on my desk at home.

However, in Windows 7 it seems that Windows wants to put the laptop to sleep after 10-15 minutes if I do this. Since I have various USB devices plugged in, especially external storage, this is a problem. It goes away if I run with the battery plugged in but like I said, not verified yet.

A:Laptop goes to sleep if no battery but AC plugged in

It's not bug.. It's new power management settings in windows 7.
You can easily change it just press you battery icon and press more power options
You will come up with window like this:
Now press change plan settings for the plan you are using.. After this it's very user frindly ( you can choose when dim you brightness, when put in sleep and when turn off hardware)

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 1525 that is one year old. Recently the battery will be completely dead when I try to turn on the laptop and will not power on unless I plug it in. The battery meter will be at 0% when it starts up, but recharges normally when plugged in. When I unplug the laptop and close the lid (which puts it into sleep mode) the battery will be completely dead by the next morning even if it was at 100% before I closed it. I don't know why the battery is discharging completely so quickly when the computer isn't even running.

Could this just be a problem with my battery? Or is the laptop not actually sleeping when I close it, but continually using up battery power? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

A:Laptop battery discharging when in sleep mode

Note there's a difference between "Sleep" vs. "Hibernation"
> Sleep mode still requires power (It should be minimal power but definitely still draws some power)
> Hibernation requires zero power

That said, i still wouldn't expect a good battery to discharge overnight on sleep mode so you probably still have an issue with your battery holding a charge

Hello everyone.

A few hours ago my computer was in sleep mode and unplugged when the battery died. Upon plugging it back in, I was met with an empty black screen. I turned it off by holding the power button, but the laptop refuses to boot now.

Upon turning it on, I get the Toshiba start up screen for less than a second before it goes to the Windows Error Recovery Page. Both options (Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and start windows normally) results in a screen that says 'windows is loading files...' with a status bar, then moves on to another screen showing another status bar (this one green with the microsoft corp at the bottom but no graphic) and ultimately to a black screen with a white cursor. From there, nothing works. The same happens if I try to start it in safe mode (with or without networking).

I have a system repair disc for the laptop but I haven't been able to do anything with it.

Fortunately 99% of the info on the laptop is backed up. Unfortunately the 1% that isn't is the most important (class notes for the last 4-5 weeks).

I have the extended warranty on it from best buy that actually expires in 4 days, but I certainly don't want to ship off my computer for who knows how long with those files on there.

Any advice would be tremendously appreciated.

Welcome to Seven Forums. you might try Launch Start up Repair 3 times to see if it will recover the boot sector.

Hello,
I have the Dell XPS 13, i5, with the Win 10 OS (64 bit) - just got it not long ago.
When I put the laptop on Sleep Mode (Either if I close the lid, or if I do it from the "Start Menu" and choose the "Sleep" option), the Laptop goes to sleep, and then wakes up immediately (after 2-3 seconds) with no apparent reason. If I immediately try to make it "sleep" again, it wakes up again after 2-3 seconds. It is like it refuses to sleep. The only way to fix it, is to restart the laptop, which sometimes fixes the problem, only until it happens again - and I notice too late when my battery is empty.
It deprives me of relying on the Sleep Mode, which is really 50% of the user experience on a SSD laptop.
How can I fix this?

Thank you
Boaz

Put it to sleep with the lid open.  After it wakes, open an admin command prompt and type the following.. Let us know what it says.
powercfg -lastwake

Hi, I recently purchased a new 12 cell battery for my HP dv-1659us laptop. I never have my laptop plugged in now days...as opposed to always having my laptop plugged in, becaues the HP OEM battery sucked. (So i couldn't tell you if it was the battery's problem.)

But, now, whenever I'm unplugged, ever so often, usually when im on Youtube, my laptop automatically goes to sleep and turns off the HD. I have to press my power key to wake it up..log back in..and my applications/ youtube video resumes. I checked my power management, put it to sleep at around 30 minutes, so I know that its not sleeping because I'm "inactive". Anyone know what might be the problem?

Hello,My computer decided to black screen today. I had put it to sleep when it was low battery and it died while in sleep mode. I fully charged it and tried to reboot it, but no display. It works on an external display, but can't display anything on the laptop screen. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
