T480s screen downgrade – from what previous model can I replace a screen?

Q: T480s screen downgrade – from what previous model can I replace a screen?

Hello forumI have a T480s and I would like to downgrade my screen so the native resolution of the replaced screen is 1366x768.Why am I doing that? well, working with higher resolutions makes my eye ache.I tried working with my native 1920x1080 resolution with higher DPI, bit the detail level is still hurting my eyes.Of course, when manually reducing native resolution the result is a slightly-blurry view. That?s not good either. So, my question is ?I want to put a screen of a previous Lenovo model that will fit my laptop, and will provide 1366x768 resolution. What are those models that has the same physical screen alignment? Thanks!Roy

Preferred Solution: T480s screen downgrade – from what previous model can I replace a screen?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I recently broke my laptop LCD screen, and when I switch it on some parts of the screen are purple and black. I know that HP has a parts surfer where your can buy replacement parts. I checked and they don't have any screens available (n/a). So i was wonderng if i can purchase a screen that is similar to my hp model that can work for my laptop (non-touchscreen or touchscreen if possible). Hope I can get this solved soon!

This is the strangest thing I've ever seen from a PC. I'm at the computer and the print screen key prints the previous screen rather than printing the current screen.

Another peculiarity on this PC is the behavior I get from a paid version of PDF-995. This is software that is used to convert non-PDF files into PDFs. It is behaving very strangely. Instead of capturing the current document, it appears to actually create a PDF that is a print-capture of the previous screen - the desktop screen that was up before you were looking at the document you want to convert to pdf format.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

It's running Windows XP Pro. The hardware is a 2.5GHz CPU with 256 MR of RAM. I haven't noticed any other odd behavior on the PC yet. No recent downloads that I know of.

My problem started much like that of Busybee, with files being deleted, orphan files being restored and security something or other, however, after reboot from CD, and running Startup Repair, the tests all appear to be OK, except "Root Cause Found - Volume on disk is corrupt" Result: Completed successfully, Error Code=0x0

At this point the pc goes through the never ending sequence of trying to boot up, black screen then blue screen, etc.

Operating System: Windows Vista 32 bit, service pack 2
C:\ 500Gb HD with
D:\ 20Gb restore using 12Gb

Disk failure diagnosis test result OK

Most recent change, made a day or so prior to the crash, was retuning digital tv tuner when the changeover from Analog to Digital signal was needed to update channels here in UK. The screen shows "No Signal Analog" at beginning and end of reboot sequence.

The black screen suggests this may be a recent hardware or software issue, and advises removal of any recent changes, but as I cannot get into the system, let alone the control panel, I am unable to remove or disable anything.

Would really appreciate being able to at least recover my files, and as I am unable to access the operating system either by safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, or a normal reboot, would welcome any advice about how I can achieve this.

I have a laptop also running Vista 32 bit if that would be of any help in accessing the files.

I damaged a Toshiba Satellite Screen a couple of years ago, and used an external screen with a serial connection, It's replacement has had to go to the repair shop, and I have forgotten just how to do it and in the meantime it has been switched back so as to be looking at a butterfly wing of a screen that I can make no sense of.
I need to start again as a novice if there is any help to help me switch it to another display device, so that the young owner can access You tube and the Simpsons, or Steam boat Willie, or even Bugs and Elmer.
I also have this PC using W10.

Hi,

CPU: Intel Core2 QUAD 9300
Motherboard: AsRock x48 TurboTwins
Ram: DDR2 2x 2GB, 800 GHz, brand Hynix
GPU: ATI HD 5770
PSU: Corsair 650 W
OS: Windows 7
Custom build

I installed Civilization 5 (and directX 9 as well because I was asked to during the installation). After few minutes of being in the game a blue screen popped up (I do not know what message was on there). I restarted the computer and system recommended to run the fix mode. I launched it and after a while I was advised to bring the settings back to the restore point. I acknowledged this but then all I saw was a black screen. Since then, after each restart the screen goes black. If I manage to go to BIOS after 5-10 seconds the screen goes black. I cannot even reinstall Windows.

Those 5-10 seconds in BIOS are enough to check the temperatures on CPU and MB: they are around 30 degrees Celsius so overheating is not the problem. I connected the monitor with my laptop and it works, so monitor is fine. There are no loose connections. There is no dust and debris - this system is 2 months old.

Problem might be in the graphics card. Several weeks ago the screen used to go grey after playing Fallout 3 for 10-15 minutes. I disabled the audio on the card and that solved the problem. However, Windows still indicated that there is something wrong with the GPU; on the other hand, drivers were up-to-date.

Can anyone help please? Or let me know what you think might be wrong.

Thanks.

A:The screen goes black after previous blue screen (even in BIOS)

Since you are having a graphics issue in both the BIOS startup screen and while Windows is open, it does sound like a graphics card problem and not a driver problem. Do you have another graphics card to substitute for test purposes?

Hi!  I do have trouble with a Lenovo Flex 2-14 (Model 20404).The Lenovo turns on, shows the Levono Boot screen and finishes with a black screen.  - I am able to enter the Bios (working screen)- I am able to run the internal recovery with a working screen - after recovery and a new boot up - the screens gets black again  How is that possible? I am not able to boot from a usb-stick (with working Linux or Windows installation - tested on other systems) cause I get a black screen (the USB is being recognized).  So... what are the next steps? This seems wierd, since the screen itself seems to work. I found some forum-topics saying it is a GPU-failure. Maybe thats the case?  I would appreciate any support!

Sometimes when I am opening and closing my laptop screen some failures appear, just in fractions of seconds. Sometimes I see vertical green lines, other times it's just some green spots. I think the problem is the flat cable that connects the screen and the motherboard. If possible I want to know the maker and model of the supported cables, if I need to change. This information will save me the time to disassemble the laptop just to check the model. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

thanks.

Hello.
I have an Acer Aspire AS3810TZ-4806 and have owned it for a good 4-5 years. I've had some LCD issues for a couple years now where the light flickers, have big black spots and FINALLY the screen gave out. it's almost completly dark now. You can faintly see images. After some research on replacement, a compatible Acer LCD on Ebay would run roughly $60. I've concluded that It's either the bulb inside (CCFL??) or the inverter that may have an issue, but I have no way of testing which is broken since I have no spare LCD screen to test or a little tester device.

What I've discovered was my lcd screen's model # was : B133XW01 V2 . After googling this model # and a search on Ebay, I've discovered a Dell Latitude 13 or a couple other Dell brands share this same model, the difference is it says " V1." Im assuming version 1 or something, and the one I have is V2. The connectors look the same. I feel like it might work. What do you think? Below are a couple Ebay links im looking at, Does that "H/W" code matter?
Any advice?

My 2 month old T480s is really annoying to use as the lock screen locks the laptop after less than one minutes of not using the keyboard or mouse. The notebook has Windows 10 Pro and I cannot for example watch a video longer than 1 minutes as the laptop lock screen is activated and I have to enter the user PIN or use the facial recognition feature to login back and unlock the laptop. I have tried all the tricks I found online including editing the (GPedit) group policy administrative template personalization, disabling the screen lock screen using Regedit to change the registry settings, and changing windows 10 Power & Sleep settings. Are there any BIOS settings that can prevent the lock screen from activating in such a short time or to completely disable it? Thank you,Hamdy

I have a 2 day old T480s with out of the box OS (Windwos 10) installed.  I've run all windows updates (not the October 2018 yet), and all Lenevo Updates as of 10/11/2018.  When the laptop is plugged in, and reaches 100% charged, it starts acting like you are unplugging and plugging it back in.  It does this rapidly, every second or so until you unplug the laptop.  You can see it in the attached event viewer image.  It alters between: Event ID 105:  Power source change.Event ID 4107: A caller specified the SDC_FORCE_MODE_ENUMERATION flag in a call to the SetDisplayConfig() API This thing is brand new, what could be causing the issues?  Seems like a driver to me as it does charge fine when I let the battery drains a bit.  I know there is a setting in Lenovo Vantage that allows you to change the point at which the laptop stops charging, then also sets a lower limit for when it will start charging agian.  When I do this, and set the stop charge to 95% or lower, the Off/On behavior no longer happens.    Any help would be appreciated it.

When I got the 2. laptop it worked with the orginal image (start the pc for the first time and let it finish), but after re-installation I got the issue. I have tried a few things without luck (turn of fast startup, disable secure boot, monitor profile update) but i cant make it work. If I attach an external monitor I get a dispaly on this external monitor (via hdmi), and I can see one Generic PNP Monitor (the external monitor), it seems like that the internal display is disconnected if choose show hidden devices in the device manager, and can't be enabled (i have also tried to rescan for new hardware without any luck). When I reboot  the display is back again. I dont have this issue on the t470 model with the same approach. What do I miss, some driver/windows setting or ? Thanks in advanceregardsMartin

Hi, I bought a T480s back in December 2018 and have noticed this problem in the title for quite a while now. I'm running the following: Processor: i7-8650UNo MX150Graphics: Intel UHD 620Screen: WQHDMultiple times throughout the day my screen will flicker or momentarily black out sections (typically the bottom portion) of it. It doesn't happen as often when fewer applications are open, but it still occurs even then. It doesn't appear to be a hardware issue, given that I've tried moving the laptop back and forth, shook it gently etc. to try to reproduce the strange behavior.I tried updating the Intel drivers only for the problem to worsen -- updating the driver to the November version (25.x something) caused the computer to additionally black out the screen entirely at times, which could only be resolved by putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up again! I've decided to install version 24.20.100.6223 of the Intel 620 UHD driver, and I'm hoping it works without a hitch, but has anyone else had and resolved this sort of issue before? Or if some Lenovo staff are around, is there a solution? I'd really like to send it back for a replacement but my schedule won't allow me and I'd be out of a laptop for work.

Hi forums, I am an IT professional supporting a business laptop refresh from older Dells to Lenovo t480s (20L7) laptops. For Bitlocker best practices and per our InfoSec team's directives we set our computers to hibernate whenever they would otherwise sleep.  We have noticed that several freshly imaged computers, with all Lenovo System Update drivers installed, and with the SCCM driver package from the Lenovo site installed, will show a black screen after resuming from hibernate. The laptop backlight and Function key lights are on, the power button is lit up, and the fan does spin, but the screen is black, no backlight, and the laptop is totally unresponsive until a hard reboot (hold the power button). Interestingly, the system cannot be pinged or remoted into while in this state, and opening/closing the lid has no effect.  Has anyone seen anything similar to this, or know what might be the cause?  Thank you in advance.

Hello, So - the problem appears when you are trying to use external screen which one is connected to the docking station (there is only two DisPlay ports and no others dedicated to monitors). When you connect it first time - it's ok. But when you trying to un-dock and dock again - external screen says "no input" and goes down. In other words - external screen is not working. The same issue is described over there:https://support.lenovo.com/lt/en/solutions/ht081248 Mine docking station type is 40AH, but anyway, I tried to run ThinkPad Ultra Dock 135W firmware update - but update says "the firmware you are trying to install is older than the version already installed. My Docking Station: Power adapter is 135W. All drivers are up to date. Btw - I have many of those docking stations with machines. For some of them everything is fine. But seems the problem is with docking station. I have two docking stations on my desk right now. And my computer on one is working fine, but with other on - not. So, it's clear that the problem is with the docking station.

Windows Update is pushing an Intel graphics driver for T480 and T480s that is broken on Windows 10 Pro 1803 OEM. The recommended update on the Lenovo Support site is also broken. After Windows Update has installed this driver, the screen goes black and I have a blinking cursor. The only thing that works is to turn the laptop off and on again but then after initializing windows I'm supposed to be getting the login screen but instead I get a completely backlit black screen that doesn't respond to anything - no cursor, no blinking, nothing. The workaround is topower off and on 3 times in order to go into safe modeuninstall the graphics card driver in Device Manager and check the box to delete the driver fileschange from Yes (recommended) to No (your device might not work as expected) in Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Installation Settings->Do you want to automatically download manufacturers' apps and custom icons available for your devices.I've experienced this on 2 T480s and 1 T480 in the last 30 hours, so I know it's a general issue. I can reproduce the issue with a brand new laptop fresh out of the box, not domain-joined. The driver that works is from March 2018. Any drivers after this date seem to produce the above issue. The issue doesn't seem to exist on Windows 10 Pro 1709.

It's not the size of the display screen, these are all fairly identical. It is the connector socket and the rail screw positions that will bite you.

I suggest finding an exact replacement. If you can't find one on eBay then you certainly will at a store like this one:

Now, this is frustrating - last night I left my computer and went to bed leaving it running, woke up this morning to see it stuck at the "CPU is unworkable, blah blah" screen (I get this message whenever I restart/turn the computer on), so for some reason my computer decided to restart itself.

Got into windows loading screen, and it's started installing updates, but I don't even know which ones - and whatever they were, they've messed up my screen resolution. I'm using a 21" widescreen monitor and is best used at 1440x900, but after these vista "updates" installed themselves I can no longer select this resolution from the display settings, nor does it even show in the "List all Modes..." section.

So how do I even begin to find out what this problem is, and how to fix it?

So far I've tried reinstalling my graphic drivers, but it hasn't changed anything.

Erm, I've also now noticed i'm unable to select the Windows Aero settings for my PC.

Hello!
I bought Inspiron 7567 at the end of the summer with UHD (3840x2160) screen. Now my screen is broken (I fell from bike directly on my bag with laptop lol) and I would like to replace it. I saw that https://www.laptopscreen.com I asked them and they don't know when they will have UHD screens.

A:Inspiron 15 7567 is screen downgrade possible?

You can try another source - amazon, parts-people.com -- or Dell Spare Parts  (1-800-372-3355), though there should be no problem if you want to install a lower-resolution screen (which is an option on these).

I'm using 8 on a non-touch laptop. I generally like it, but the most frustrating thing to me is that I can't "go back" to a previous screen. For instance, I open an email attachment and it automatically goes into full screen viewing. When I'm done looking at the attachment, I have no idea how to go back to the previous email screen. So I have to go all the way back to the start screen, and then into my email to get to the previous page. I'm clearly doing it wrong. Help!

A:Simple question: How do I go back to a previous screen?

Hello Tirade. Welcome to EightForums.

Mouse pointer to upper left corner -> Mini screens of anything open appear -> Press one. (Right click will close them) Or alt/tab to flip through open apps as in past OSs.

Hello. I've got ThinkPad T520 4243-FS9, it has a FullHD screen with the resolution 1980x1020. I always use external monitor, which has much less DPI, and unfortunately, Linux can't handle that normally: there's no good way to support monitors with different DPI. So I consider replacing the screen with the usual HD resolution: 1366x768, e.g. it's 96 dpi, which is pretty fine for me. I asked at https://www.laptopscreen.com , and they reported that the screen I'm looking for is http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/THINKPAD+T520+4243/?hash=915842 , but they also said that I'll need a different video cable: > If you wish to use the lower resolution screen in the laptop you will first need to change the video cable in the laptop to a standard HD channel cable (we do not stock video cables, or have cable model info) capable of properly running the lower resolution screen, the current video cable in the laptop will not support the lower resolution screen resolution. But in this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Upgrading-T520-screen-from-1366-x-768-to... , I see that the guy edit1754 reported: > I performed a 1366x768 to 1920x1080 display upgrade on a friend's W510, and can confirm that, at least for his laptop, the cable for the 1366x768 display is a 40-pin dual-channel LVDS cable that will support a 1920x1080-resolution display. So is it possible to say for sure,...
