Hard Core Porn Invasion On Google Groups

Q: Hard Core Porn Invasion On Google Groups

We?ve just started seeing a hard-core porn invasion on Google Groups. So far, we have identified approximately 270 Google Groups pages with this porn...These pages push other porn pages for profit. While not all of the redirects go to malware sites, we did observe some redirects to a site which ultimately pushes a fake codec trojan, which...results in a VirusHeat infection...sunbeltblog.blogspot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Two days ago a program called 'power scan' appeared on our computer. I don't know where it's come from and I can't uninstall it, but ever since it's been appearing I have been getting frequent pop-ups, most of them pornographic. A program called Hotsex also installed itself into my main hard drive, into my internet favourites, onto my desktop as an icon and also on the taskbar on bottom right of desktop. I already have Norton Internet Security and Antivirus installed and configured so it's not a basic security fault on my part, but this thing is driving me insane. Is the powerscan linked to this new pop up thing and HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT?? We've had broadband for 2 weeks but it's only in the last couple of days this has been occuring - with no apparent reasoning behind it. And with my basic knowledge of computers I am lost for ideas. Can someone please help before my new and expensive computer finds itself on a bonfire? *sob*

Hi allI have the google redirect problem, on XP Home SP3. (It gets weirder; since this started I also have a runaway HelpAssistant account, but let's deal with one thing at a time). When I got the redirect problem I was running an out-of-date Norton Antivirus, so I uninstalled it and installed Panda. Panda didn't see any problems. So I also tried Avast, which didn't find any problems.I downloaded gooredfix and it fixed the problem on Firefox (but not IE); then Firefox started crashing whenever I started it, so I re-installed Firefox (3.6) and got the redirect again.I have a hosts file which makes it so I can't see any of the weird sites it's redirecting to, but I still want to cleanse my pc.So ... what can I try next? Any advice would be most welcome.EDIT: Moved from XP to Am I Infected forum ~ Hamluis.

This morning, when accessing a site, my hard drive became continuously active (I could hear it working and I could see the access drive light continuously blinking) as if being searched, even when I disconnected from the net, even when I shut the computer down and restarted - it continued.

Only after shutting the computer down for more than an hour did this activity stop.

How can I tell what is going on and how to stop it?
btw Zone alarm levels are set at high.

thanks very much.

I am in charge of managing the members for a group. Every year I get a stack of new membership papers that I need to either file in the book (existing members that are just paying their dues) or I need to add their email to the group list then file. The way that my predecessor told me to enter the person was "Jane Doe" <[email protected]>. That way their name appears nicely (as a nickname). My issue is, when I sort all the members it sorts by FIRST name, not LAST. When I export to excel it puts the nickname in one cell doing the same thing. I thought maybe I could go in each member and edit changing it to "Doe, Jane" but the edit page does not allow me to change the nickname. I reallllly don't want to have to delete all 200 members and re-invite them.

Any suggestions?

Malicious software has been found looking to Google Groups for instructions on how to behave badly.
Google (NSDQ: GOOG)'s free online newsgroup Google Groups hosts plenty of harmless user-generated content. But like any service that allows users to post information, it also turns out to be useful for "misuser-generated content."
A Symantec (NSDQ: SYMC) security researcher has found that Trojan malware is using Google Groups to fetch commands for directing its attacks.
"A back door Trojan that we are calling Trojan.Grups has been using the Google Groups newsgroups to distribute commands," said Symantec security researcher Gavin O Gorman in a blog post on Friday. "Trojan distribution via newsgroups is relatively common, but this is the first instance of newsgroup [command and control] usage that Symantec has detected."

By John Leyden.

Hackers have programmed a Trojan that uses Google Groups newsgroups to distribute commands.
Trojan distribution via newsgroups has existed for more than a decade, but using newsgroups as a command and control channel is a new innovation.
The Grups Trojan itself is quite simple and is only noteworthy for the command and control structure it deploys. The malware is programmed to log into a Chinese language newsgroup to receive commands, Symantec security researcher Gavin O'Gorman writes.

When successfully logged in, the Trojan requests a page from a private newsgroup, escape2sun. The page contains commands for the Trojan to carry out. The command consists of an index number, a command line to execute, and optionally, a file to download. Responses are uploaded as posts to the newsgroup using the index number as a subject.
The post and page contents are encrypted using the RC4 stream cipher and then base64 encoded. The attacker can thus issue confidential commands and read responses. If no command is received from the static page, the infected host uploads the current time.

I run IE9 with the newest patches under 64bit Win 7.

When I go to Google Groups forums threads then the
general Google Groups forum stuff is shown in IE browser window
but not the thread content itself.

Example: When I enter

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!to...er/pMnxwV7LDsQ

in IE9 then the result looks like the snapshot in the attachment.

When I enter the same URL in Firefox or Chrome everything is fine.

So whats wrong with IE9 ?

I guess some Javascript library used by Google is incompatible.

Or maybe an IE security settings prevents display.

Can someone give me a hint?

A:Why is Google Groups posting thread content now shown in IE9 ?

Yahoo tech support does not respond, I have tried many times in the last two months (I got what I paid for).

I am trying to clean my daughter's computer. Windows XP.
I ran Symantic Antivirus - found and supposedly removed 1 virus. Ran the it twice more with no more viruses - but because the computer resources are fully used - the virus check took over 10 hours.
I installed and ran Webroot SpySweeper. It found Trojan - Slod (I believe that was it.) among other things. It quarentined those items and I deleted them. I ran it again and it found the Trojan again. I deleted it again. The next time I ran it, Slod didn't show up. Now the worst things showing up are: comet cursor, starware toolbar, superbar, and virus heat. I quarentined them.
The computer resources are not always fully used now. However, we have a problem with the web browser. - Internet Explorer 7.
Every time we go anythere, an error box pops up saying we have a virus and should click the button to download a virus cleaner. I need to press CTRL F4 to close it as it does not appear in the Task Manager - Applications, nor does it appear on the task bar and I don't want to click on it anywhere. This appears sometimes two or three times before the browser will go to another page.
When we use Google to search, we come to a strange Google page. It has a big notice that the computer is infected with a virus. As well, a Utube porn picture. If you click on anything in the list of found items you get redirected to some other web site.

I ran Hijack This. Here is the Log:

Ok its been a fair few years since i was on here and figured id come back with something that currently is a little sensitive.

Does anyone know if its possible that a virus or rootkit could put things into a google chrome history if the user hasn't actually visited that site?

I wont post logs or anything as i realise this could sound silly and be a virus, however the short story is that i have discovered under my 10 year old daughters login on various days in between her playing online flash games , a list of google searches for some very disturbing things that are porn and worse searches.

AVG found nothing, Spybot found a few things, CCleaner cleaned up the cookies and temp etc and i have reset browsers and security and will monitor over the next few days going forward. Hijack this also to me looked clear. I also did TDDSKiller and was clean. Hosts file was also fine.

Any help or info would be appreciated as searching this forum and google didn't fully help me see if this was something others had experienced.

We have windows 8 with family safety report that comes through which alerted me to it, i then logged in and went back through the history and it goes back a good 2 months but isnt every day. Its only under her login and not my sons or my wifes.
Like i say I have done a clean, reset cache cookies etc and will monitor the next week or so in case but i guess i want someone to tell me its not that my daughter has searched for this kind of thing. Oh and I ha... Read more

A:Google Chrome History hijacked with lots of porn image searches

Chrome latest versions have preview or similar wording enabled by default
it is supposed to speed up browsing by preloading links in the background
That can lead to the experience that you have had

so if she is visiting alleged "safe" sites that have links or adverts leading to "bad" sites. the bad sites can appear in a users history & cookies even when the user has never actually visited them

if you uncheck "Predict network actions to improve page load performance" in chrome settings that can help prevent it

Also make sure that she hasn't got any extra chrome extensions under her user account as some can cause that

Hello,
I really hope someone can help me. We are currently using Mozilla Firefox as our browser, as IE, after we updated it to v7, appeared to cause problems with our keyboard skipping letters.

Using both IE6 and IE7, we were plagued by pop ups for fake spyware removal products (fc-pc-internet, I think), Celldorado, Sarah-Feder Psychic readings, and many other commercial offers. Ater we switched to Mozilla, they seemed to disappear for a day or so, but have now reappeared.

Last night and today, however, two graphic pornographic pop ups arrived; I'm afraid I did not get the url as I reacted too quickly in shutting them down! (As the PC is also used a lot by children, this is quite worrying.)
T
I regularly use Spybot, and we also have AVG Anti-virus scheduled to run every 24 hours. I have run both Spybot and AVG Anti-spyware in the past 24 hours - Spybot found 9 problems (DoubleClick was one), which it removed, and AVG found 214 (tracking cookies) which it removed.

I have also tried AdAware, and attempted Kapversky (spelling?) which would not run and seemed to indicate a hard disc error involving a file called csrss.exe. I have also noticed a file called fzqknoszj.exe running in task manager when starting up sometimes - it then appears to disappear. I have no idea if this is relevant at all, so please forgive me if I am giving too much extraneous information!

Every once in awhile I will read and post to USENET if it's about something that interests me and I cannot find the information I need elsewhere. Sometimes you just like a lot of "input" and then you can sort through it all and apply it in any way that you wish.

I pretty much use GOOGLE for everything, including searches, Gmail etc.... and one of the things I like about a feature called GOOGLE "GROUPS" is I have access to literally hundreds of forums, both of "usenet" and other groups.

From time to time I will see where someone in their forums, will whine about posting to usenet using GOOGLE "GROUPS". I've seen statements such as "Why don't you use a real newsreader"? and people complaining about having to "wrap" the text because of the way it is delivered through GG.

Some have went as far as hinting that it's just not "right" to post to usenet using GG. Well, for one, I would like some of your "input" into this matter. Why do some people make me feel (or try to) like I'm a "bad little girl" LOL or something because I am using GG as a vehicle to usenet? Is there any "merit" to their criticisms or are they just finding things to pick on and whine about?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses GG for usenet access. BTW... I am always respectful and thank anyone who replies to my posts just like I try and remember to do here. The main reason I... Read more

A:USENET ..... and it's reaction to using Google "GROUPS"...???

On Usenet, you are dealing with a lot of internet 'old timers' , and the culture in many newsgroups have been a certain way for just about 2 decades. I would not be surprised if many of them are still reading newsgroups on a textmode application. (you know, a DOS looking screen). This might be why some people are complaining about paragraphs not properly 'wrapping'

There was a time when the timeliness and completeness of a usenet feed was a major factor in determining the quality of an internet service provider.

I remember being flamed for having too much 'whitespace' in my posts (too many linefeeds between paragraphs).

Well, I downloaded a program called magicdisc to mount image files, but it turns out this was a terrible mistake. When I installed it on my computer (not this one my gaming computer) and rebooted my computer like instructed everything stopped working. The first couple of times windows would load slowly, but I couldnt open any programs, and the quick launch bar/ start menu were gone and unaccesible. So I tried to reboot in safe mode and I could access command prompt, but at the time i was afraid to lose all my games so I hesitated instead of formatting C drive. So I shutdown teh computer and came to look on the interne tfor some alternatives. Now however, I cant access ANYTHING. When I try to boot the computer in any mode, I geet a blue screen telling me that if I proceed my comp will be damaged, and emergency shut down will now happen. So I went into setup and tried to make it lback to when it left the factory, but that failed as well. So now im completely lost, and Im afraid the only option is to pay lots of money and send it into the store

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a Linux based program called "Darik's Boot and Nuke" that completely wipes out a hard drive. There are 2 versions, one is a bootable ISO image which can be burned to a CD using Nero or almost any other image burning software, and the other makes a bootable floppy. Use it if you have given up hope for ever recovering any data on your drive(s).

Just a warning though, if you use it everything will be unrecoverable.

I have a computer that has 2 GB of RAM at 1066 MHz which is 1 yr. old, when I use google chrome, firefox and CS5 at the same time it only uses 61-65% memory, its weird that you only have one page open on chrome and it uses 200 MB memory, Are your browsers up to date? If not update it. I think it has something to do with your RAM, probably you have a memory leak from what I know. What are the extension and add-ons in your chrome that is using that much RAM? I have 32-bit W7 when its idle it uses 20% memory.

OK, here's the story. I have two Western Digital hard drives in my system, the master is a 120GB/8MB cache, the slave an 80GB/8MB cache. When I power on the system after it has been powered off for a few hours, the secondary (80GB) drive sounds as if it is trying to spin up and fails; it does this a few times, and then Windows XP will eventually load but fail to detect the drive. Occasionally, XP fails to load completely (dead crash). However, if I do either a warm reset or a cold boot, everything initializes perfectly. I did a surface scan and used WD's diagnostic utility, but no hard errors were detected.

I did the following to isolate the problem:
- Replaced IDE cables; result = no change
- Tried different molex connectors; result = no change
- Tried changing jumper setting from Master/Cable Select to Master/Slave; result = no change
- Upgraded firmware on the drive; result = no change
- Swapped the circuit board on the drive (the female Molex power port is integrated) thinking it might be a micro fracture in a chip, Molex pin, etc); result = no change
- Left surge protector on instead of powering off after I turn off main computer; result = successful, but only sometimes

It looks like a power issue, right? Thing is, the machine has a new Antec 430watt power supply, and if it was a power issue, why are my other devices not showing anomalies?

Any insights you may have... would be greatly appreciated! =-)

A:Hard-Core HD Problem - AARGH!

Hi,

It really sounds like an intermittent hard drive failure even if it tests O.K. I doubt if it is a power issue doing this. I would try to get my important data off there immediately until you find the problem.

Hi guys. I've been looking at 2 laptops, they are basically identical but one has an Intel Core i3-4005U mobile processor and 4GB of RAM, and the other one has an AMD A4-5000 mobile processor and 6GB RAM. The guy at the store and a couple other people I know told me that the Core i3 is better than the A4 as the AMD "Quad Core" processors aren't very good, so even though the Intel i3 is only dual core it will be better than the quad core AMD. The other question is the RAM. Is 6GB that much better than 4GB or will 4GB be fine for basic use. (That's all this laptop is for. Basic use and touch apps since it will be touchscreen)

The AMD laptop is this one: Buy the HP Pavilion Notebook - AMD A4, 6GB, 15.6 at TigerDirect.ca
And the Intel here: Buy the HP TouchSmart 15.6 Notebook PC - F5W37UA#ABL at TigerDirect.ca

Last question, what the hell is DDR3L? All the new laptops have it nowadays... Is it backward compatible with normal DDR3 laptop RAM? Meaning can I take a normal laptop DDR3 4GB stick out of my dads laptop and put it into the 4GB (i3) laptop if thats the one i'm gonna get? Or does the DDR3 "L" part cause issues?
Thanks

Edit: Sorry i'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread. If it isn't mods could you please move it? Thanks

A:AMD A4-5000 "Quad Core" vs Intel Core i3-4005U Dual Core

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

Hello,

I have a CnM CORE usb powered external hard drive which is currently being a bit of a problem.

I hadn't used it in a while so earlier today went to try and update and backup some files.

If plug it in I get a blue light on the physical drive. Under "computer" I see the drive when I connect it for a fraction of a second, the device being plugged in sound plays, but then the drive disappears.

The drive itself doesn't seem to have anyway of opening it either. Usually I would be able to feel it vibrate, but not any more so I assume it is dead, although it does get warm? If so, is there any way for me to recover the data or something?

If you would like any more information, just give me a shout.

Thanks very much for your time!

I'd break the enclosure apart, remove the actual hard drive, and connect it internally to your PC and see if you can access it.

I have a HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and I want to install Windows 8 from scratch, I put the installation files on a flash drive from a DVD of Win 8 I had, but when I go to install it, it says the "We couldn't find any drives". I have tried using DiskPart within the CMD as well, but it only finds my flash drive when I run list disk. Also, my drives are completely formatted, and I accidentally wiped the recovery partition. I tried with a USB of Win 8 Pro, and it was fine, showing all of my drives correctly, but that version is linked to another PC, so I can't install it. Also, I booted into a Linux Mint live CD and tried to install it, it sees my hard drive correctly, but the Windows install does not, I can't figure this out, never encountered it before. Is Linux my only option at this point?

Messaging -- SOAP doesn't discriminate, but developers do. SOAP promised to bridge the religious gap between traditional RPC-style coding and document oriented messaging. With Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 2.0, the Microsoft platform now supports both styles of SOAP messaging, RPC request/response and sync/async messaging. Keith Ballinger outlines many different types of potential SOAP messaging and provides an overview of the new messaging infrastructure in WSE 2.0.

I have plugged in my CORE hard drive, the blue light comes on. I then insert the USB cable into my USB port in my laptop.... nothing. No "windows has detected a new device", no recognition in 'my computer', just nothing at all.

Apparently this is a very common issue, but I still have not found any solutions.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

I am trying to choose between different Dell Latitude D420/D430 laptops. They come from a very good company who get stacks of laptops from Dell and sell them as refurbished (as good as new) at good prices (http://ndc.co.uk/browse_sub-Latitude_D420_D430-37.html). I will use it for MS Office, Outlook, internet, and nothing much else.

The choice is between Core Solo 1.06GHz or 1.2GHz; Core Duo 1.2GHz; or Core 2 Duo 1.2GHz or 1.33GHz. (The D430 has a brighter screen and allows Core 2 Duo - apart from that (I think...) D420 and D430 are identical.)

I'm hesitant about going for the cheapest, but from what I can tell Core Solo will handle all these functions well. I have seen that Core 2 Duo can be 30% faster than Core Duo, but I wonder if I will notice it on what I run.

At the moment I have a Core Duo 1.2GHz/D420 which runs fine, except for some freezing sometimes when I open Outlook (it resolves after 10-20 seconds).
