Thinkpad A485 - BSOD - rtwlane.sys when adding multiple wireless profiles

Q: Thinkpad A485 - BSOD - rtwlane.sys when adding multiple wireless profiles

I am testing the new models of Thinkpad A485 units Model Type 20MV S00U00.OS installs just fine.I have the drivers for enterprise that were downloaded from the lenovo site, they installed just fine.I have a script that as part of the setup it installs around 38 wireless profiles and its the same script that we use in all our models. On this model is causing a BSOD pointing to the "rtwlane.sys" file. after some research I have downloaded the latest driver from Realtek. This did not help.I added a pause command on the script so that the script pauses after each individual profile is installed to see if its one particular profile causing the issue. Each time that I run the script, the BSOD happens at a different profile.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A blue screen error (also called a stop error) can occur if a problem causes your PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly. When you experience this type of error, you won?t be able to see things like the Start menu or the taskbar on the screen when your PC is turned on. Instead you might see a blue screen with a message that your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.

Hi, It seems that this latest BIOS version (1.02) is causing a few different performance issues for the ThinkPad A485. Once obtaining my A485 I ran some synthetic benchmarks to judge CPU performance. After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

Can we please have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)?According to the website https://fwupd.org/lvfs/devicelist I can see that fairly new Thinkpads like the P52/P72 are already supported. I do not mind waiting (within reasonable time frame) for Lenovo to fix the BIOS issues but at least I would like to be able to update my system without relying on Windows. Can we please have an update on anything revolving this machine? Is LVFS support coming or not? Is a BIOS update planned fairly soon so that I can stick with Windows for a bit longer? Please shed some light on the situation. A simple yes is coming or no is not will suffice so that we can all move on... Thank you.

A:Lenovo, please add LVFS compatibility for Thinkpad A485

Hi,

I can't answer your immediate question, but I'm posting to make sure you know there's a way to get there. Perhaps you're already aware but others may not be...

It still requires Windows, but that could be in a VM if you don't have a Win box handy.  The Windows update exe includes a tool to make a bootable flash drive.  Instructions in the readme.

I realize it's not ideal but at least it's possible.

Hi, The ThinkPad A485 currently suffers from the same issue as the E485, where if typing on the keyboard quickly, jumbles up the letters. This appears to be a firmware bug as I have tested in in Windows and Linux, and yet it persists. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/E485-strangely-unresponsive-keyboard/td-p... Could I please also have confirmation that the A485 will be supported for BIOS updates via LVFS (fwupd.org)? If you need any more information please ping me. Cheers

I noticed and issue with the ThinkPad A485 (AMD Ryzen) and DisplayPort audio. If using either the Lenovo Pro dock or the Lenovo USB-C dock, I'm unable to get sound to come through my Acer B247Y 24" monitors using a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. The monitors have built-in speakers. It seems Windows 10 thinks it's sending the audio through to the monitors, but nothing comes out. Connecting the HDMI port on the side of the A485 to HDMI on the monitor will produce sound. Using a DisplayPort to female HDMI adapter from the back of either docking station and then connecting an HDMI cable to the adapter and then to HDMI on the monitor will also produce sound. There are no settings on the monitor that seem to do anything for it. I can select the Acer AMD High Definition Audio source in Sound Properties and the little equalizer meter moves when you right-click "Test sound", just no audio comes out using DisplayPort to DisplayPort. I'm not sure if this is an issue with USB-C and DP Alt-Mode which the A485 uses for either the Pro dock or USB-C dock. This does not seem to be an issue with an Intel-based machines using USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 or just Intel and DisplayPort audio. Other testing I've done.1. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer monitor with the Pro dock and the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock using a ThinkPad T480. DisplayPort to HDMI will also produce sound.2. DisplayPort to DisplayPort does produce sound through the Acer mo... I just updated the Bios on my machine hoping for the performance to start going further to becoming at least on par with the E485/E585, but to my horror, it now throttles even worse! What used to be a stable 2.5Ghz on the CPU during a Cinebench run on high performance mode, resulting in an underwhelming but acceptable 530-560cb is now 2.0Ghz! This barely puts it in the 450-480cb range, which is almost as bad as quiet mode on the previous bios. This is completely unacceptable. If the E485/E585 can get 600cb consistently, so can the A485. The cooling isn't the problem, just stop limitting the laptop and let it get a little louder/hotter so we can get the performance we have been advertised! 70 degrees is _not_ a suitable temp limit in high performance mode. Please try and fix this. This could be the best Ryzen laptop around, but right now, you're just a fool for buying this over the E485. Here's a look at my findings https://imgur.com/a/qXJS2Bs

I'm loving my new A485 but I have 2 issues that I'm unanble to solve. First:Silent/Perfomance toggle is only showing up sometimes? There is this little speedometer in the taskbar that is either bleu or orange depending on your silent or performance setting. But often this toggle is missing from my taskbar after a sleep / hibernation or full restart. I tried almost everything to figure out what could trigger this issue but I haven't really figured out what it could be... All software is up to date and I'm running Win 10 1809   Second:Installing a second SSD in the wwan port (m.2 2242)Is this even possible? I inserted a new M.2 2242 SATA SSD with 512GB but it does not show up anywhere in the Disk manager or in MS dos (diskpart).  A little help would be welcome for this new Thinkpad user

It has been my practice with prior versions of Windows OS's to set up multiple printer profiles, one for drafts, one for color, etc. "The Devices and Printers" section allows me to create such profiles, but does not show them individually. When I delete them in Windows, they are not deleted in the browser and WordPerfect. Advice would be welcome.

Hi
Welcome to Seven Forums

Following guide is from Microsoft:

Quote:

To associate multiple color profiles to one device

Open Color Management by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type color management, and then click Color Management.
Click the Devices tab.
From the Device list, select the color device that you want to associate with one or more color profiles.
Select the Use my settings for this device check box, and then click Add.
In the Associate Color Profile dialog box, do one or both of the following:
If you want to use a color profile that’s already installed on your computer, click the color profile in the list, and then click OK.
If you want to use a custom color profile that isn’t installed on your computer, click Browse, locate the custom color profile that you want to use, and then click Add.
The selected color profile (or profiles) is now associated with the device and can be used by programs that use Windows Color Management to describe the color characteristics of that device. To use the newly associated color profile as the default color profile for the selected device, click Set as Default Profile.

Click Close.

Hi everyone

I have an HP laptop running Windows 8.1. Lately it has been crashing with the following error:

DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL (rtwlane.sys).

As far as I can gather I need to update a driver but I have no idea which one. If I go to the HP website then it wants me to download an application to scour the laptop and look for out of date drivers. In the past I've found that kind of app to be quite intrusive so have resisted.

So my question is should I download the HP app and let it do its thing or is there a simpler way to correct the problem.

Many thanks in advance

Hey guys,

Most of the times my laptop will crash due to "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area (rtwlane.sys)" when I tried to wake it up from sleep mode. It happened quite some time ago and I still couldn't solve it. I did what most people recommended - which is to update the Realtek PCI-E Wireless LAN NIC NDIS Driver. However, I couldn't find my driver (Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-NIC) on the official website. Therefore, I downloaded the latest version which I could find on the net but still wouldn't solve the problem.

Do request for any info that I can possibly provide and any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

A:BSOD page_fault_in_nonpaged_area (rtwlane.sys)

Your dumpfile mentioned Probably caused by : rtwlane.sys ( rtwlane+db31d ).
But it also mentioned Could not read faulting driver name.

I suspect it could be your softether VPN software.
Because the BSOD is due to networking issues.
You already updated to the latest driver for your Realtek device
Afaik all of the other networking related drivers are known to be stable and up to date
I'd suggest uninstalling the VPN software in order to check it.
If it doesn't stop the BSOD's, then feel free to reinstall it with the latest windows 8.1 version if avaliable.

I get driver irql_less_or_not_equal BSOD when on the web or playing games it happens frequently. I ran WhoCrashed and here are the results it game me, rtwlane.sys driver was apparently causing this:
Welcome to WhoCrashed (HOME EDITION) v 5.51
This program checks for drivers which have been crashing your computer. If your computer has displayed a blue (or black) screen of death, suddenly rebooted or shut down then this program will help you find the root cause and possibly a solution.

Whenever a computer suddenly reboots without displaying any notice or blue (or black) screen of death, the first thing that is often thought about is a hardware failure. In reality, on Windows most crashes are caused by malfunctioning device drivers and kernel modules. In case of a kernel error, many computers do not show a blue screen unless they are configured for this. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice.

This program will analyze your crash dumps with the single click of a button. It will tell you what drivers are likely to be responsible for crashing your computer. It will report a conclusion which offers suggestions on how to proceed in any situation while the analysis report will display internet links which will help you further troubleshoot any detected problems.

I tried running Windows Memory Diagnostic, but no matter what option I choose (restart now or run on next restart) the diagnostic never occurs, I just get a black screen. I will try checking the new memory sticks on a different laptop. Aside from faulty memory modules, the RAM is the exact same model and has the same voltage and timing specs as the one that came with the laptop from the factory.

Hi Members
My partner and teacher has a school laptop. It has obviously a school login and a personal login.
She seems to have trouble with the school login profile. It is now a half a dozen times that the profile changed(added new ones) without she having "obviously" changing/added it. She would not even know anything about it, except that things like the installed windows mail disapeared and her internet browser loosing her bookmarks.
I have installed Mozyhome on her local logon profile to backup those couple of things.
The IT person blames me that Mozy is interfering? I doubt that as I have Mozy for a few years now on XP Pro.
Would someone be able to shed light how she could stop those new profiles happening or what I could tell to the IT person?
Thanks

A:W7 Changing/adding profiles at random

The simplest thing to do is uninstall Mozyhome. If the problem does not happen then that's the problem. If it does then let the school IT folks handle it.

Vista Profile Settings disappearing problem.?
I've had this problem before, and was able to fix it, but this time its slightly different.

So I went to restart my pc, and when it came back windows left me a nice little message saying something like "Windows Vista can't load user setting, so you are taken to a temporary profile, everything you save here will be lost after logging off"
Went browsing my computer, and saw under the User folder that all the files on my computer were still alive.

So I went and did what I did last time that happen, I made a new Administrator account. (so I could copy my files onto there and delete them off the old profile)

So I go I double click on my User Profile that's having problems and it brings a pop-up like "You don't have access to this folder"
And it removes that folder and makes 3 new folders:

TEMP
TEMP.Christina-PC
TEMP.Christina-PC.000

And my profile went missing (Christina is the old profile that had the Vista profile problem with in the past [thoughI rember removing it fro my computer], The folder clicked on was TinaYoshi cuz' that was my current account name on my computer)

What is up with all these new folders?

Well after those folders randomly appeared, and they've appeare to have deleted all my files this little red icon on the task bar appears And tells me something like my Safety Setting needs to be fixed...so I double click it and I get to this screen that tell me my User Account Control is disabled.

A:{Advice Offered} - Adding access to new hardware in profiles Help wanted

Greetings

Are the users using the CD-RW drive over a network, or locally?

If it is locally, then they should have access to it, like they do to the HD and the floppy drive.

If it is over the network, then you need to right-click on the drive's icon in Explorer, and go down to the "Sharing" option.

Make sure you choose a name for the share that does NOT include a $ sign, as that share will be invisible to Win9x machines.

I have an Envy TS15 with an external secondary monitor (Benq 4k) on the HDMI port. The colour difference between the two is amazing to see when I am working in Photoshop. The Benq is very clearly superior of course but I would like to be able to adjust the profile for the built-in display. I wopuild like to be able to get consistent colour across the two devices. The laptop of course does not have monitor adjustment buttons like an external monitor and seems to only be contollable via the built-in Windows monitor colour calibration - but this does not allow me to get a match between the two monitors (insufficient controls). Is it possible to apply separate colour profiles to the two monitors - currently in extended desktop, if I change the profile on one monitor (in Windows) the profile seems to affect the other. A LUT checker tells me if I change the LUT on the laptop monitor, the same LUT is being applied to the external monitor. Is there for example, a way to control onme with the Intel graphics card and the other with the GeForce 740m card and load LUTs separately?

Set up accounts - Windows Help

This shows how to setup an account.

If there are 2 accounts, delete the one where you manually have to enter username and password.

If 1 is only present

Create a new user account and see if you get the same result.

If not, transfer all of your files from the old account to the newly created account.

If you do have the same result with 2 accounts on a new user account,

Right click on start menu, click Command prompt (admin)

Type sfc /scannow

This will find any system file corruptions and repair them.

After scan is complete, type chkdsk C: /F

Type y and press enter to confirm scan on next reboot to check for file system errors.

You also may have a registry corruption, but that can be explored if the above options fail

Hello all,
I have a question about user profiles. We have a lot of computers that have up to 200 user profiles stored on them, mostly for policemen and firemen who share computers. What I am wondering is if there is a simple way, or a utility that will help us put all of those profiles on to a different PC in case we need to replace a hard drive or install a new computer. I know XP has the files and settings transfer wizard but that only seems to work on one profile at a time; what I am praying for is something that will take all of the profiles and copy/move them at once.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Kevin

It would be a lot better if you just have a central server handle all the user profiles. What could work is backing up the c:\documents and settings folder. That holds things like favorites, desktop icons, documents and other stuff. Is that what you want?

I need to have one profile load with a particular DNS configuration, and another load with automatic properties.

I run two networks in my office: workgroup and Active Directory. Active Directory clients need to have DNS manually configured so their AD profile loads quickly. Workgroup client have tcip and dns configured to automatic.

However, when AD client laptops attempt to access the internet away from the office, they are unsuccessful due to the static DNS setting. I'd like to be able to have two hardware profiles available at system boot-up, i.e. Office Network, Non-office Network.

The office network hardware profile would run with the static dns when users are in the office, and the non-office network would pull tcip and dns automatically.

I've tried to create this, but network properties remain the same for all hardware profiles. Is there another way to accomplish what I have in mind? Perhaps a script or batch file that runs at startup. The routine would watch for certain conditions when out of the office.

For example, if a static DNS address is detected at startup, a registry hack would run to clear that out. At system shutdown, another registry hack would run to add back the same static DNS address. This way, when the system is lauched away from the office, tcip and dns would be set to automatic as a result of the registry. This obviously would enable internet access.

Any thoughts?

Can't answer your question directly, but can offer ...

IF your office network also uses a static IP address and IF your office network does not have a Dhcp server then you can leave the TCP/Properties 'General' tab at 'obtain auto' and put your office network settings on the 'Alternate Configuration' tab.

I'm trying to set up one XP account with multiple outlook2000 profiles. EAFIEDLER posted an answer back in 2001 bit it appears incorrect. The path to the registry seemed off. Anyway, I'm running outlook2000 as internet mail only (IMO) and can't figure this out. Please help

A:Multiple profiles with outlook2000

Have you looked in Control Panel? You should have an E-Mail icon, the next box is Mail Setup - Outlook, last option is Profiles and if you click on that you can add profiles and set whether or not Outlook will prompt you for a profile or not.

Hope this helps,

We are running windows XP SP2 on a large domain. We have recently had several users login in that are somehow getting new profiles. This seems to be affecting only the XP machines. Roaming profiles are not being used. We have been editing the registry and repointing to their original profiles, deleting the newly created profiles and this returns their original desktop and solves the problem temporarily, but it continues to happen. Any ideas? I am new here and not fully familiar with this company's setup at this time , but will find out the answer to any questions posed that can help me discover a permanent fix.

A:Multiple user profiles

Make sure the users are logging into the same domain each time, versus logging into the computer itself.

I run a biy windows XPsp3 machine w/ AMD cpu and 2gigs mem. Machine configuration not relevant here.

I recently reloaded XPsp3 on the machine that has been running XPsp3 for "years." I notice in the System\documents and setting directory that I now have many "users." They include: all users, all users.windows, default user, default user.windows, localservice, localservice.NT authority, Robert (from somewhere in the installation process), Robert Strickland (also from the installation), Robert Strickland.ANTECHOME (computer name during network setup/installation) and Robert~1~str. I also note that the at-the-moment START menu on the screen doesn't correspond to the START menu of any of these "users."

Question:
Can I get rid of any of these "users" and if so how? Can I designate the user name that I want to represent me? And, why doesn't the START menu agree with the START menu as documented under any of the "user" currently listed?

I'd sure like to simplify this installation and, also, understand why this happened. Thanks much.

A:why multiple user profiles and how to delete them

Hiya Niky/Robert and welcome to TSG.

When you reload (or re-install) the operating system, make sure you`ve previously taken anything off the hard drive that you want to keep and format the drive so that you start with a clean disk.

It sounds like you installed over the top of the existing system without formatting first therefore giving you multiple users.

As it stands, you could go into the User options in Control Panel and delete any that are in there apart from yourself although I reckon you`ll probably only find you and a Guest account in there and a re-install will eventually be the cleanest option when you have the inclination.

Hi,

I hope someone can help. I've had a search and can't find out how to delete multiple profiles in Vista Business 32-bit. We have 20 machines in each lab, and we need to delete all profiles on each machine except for 2 profiles. How can we do this without deleting each profile one at a time? The profiles are all stored locally, and there are about 150 on each machine. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Barry

A:How to delete multiple profiles in Vista?

if you are on a network, it is is possible to do so from the admin account. if they are individual profiles, it is the long way around.

I have discovered several NT Workstation 4.0 systems on our network that are creating multiple user profiles. They are all NT 4.0 with SP4 an upgrade to a different SP is not an option and Microsoft has not indicated this to be the problem. So far the only fix we have found is a complete rebuild. This is very time consuming as well as annoying. They do not have anything specific about the platform that is common. The registry is of ample size and there are not authintication problems. I have also encountered this problem on a PDC on a different network. Microsoft has to as yet provide me with an answer.
To answer a few more questions...
1) By multiple profiles I mean for the same user... See below.
2) The PDC is running SP6a
3) It is a Domain not a Workgroup
5) 5000+ users
6) I assume the users log out properly, but I cant watch 5000 people...
8) Local not romaing profiles

However, I feel the need to be more specific in what I mean by multiple profiles.

By multiple profiles, I Do mean for the same user. It creates the first profile say.. jagrant for instance then after logging back in later it creates a second.. jagrant.000 profile then a third... jagrant.001 profile... etc...

I my many years of NT experience and administration, I have never found this to be a normal phenomenon. It usually means a corrupt ntuser.dat file. However, that is not the case in this situation.
I am and MCSE and have investigated this problem thoroughly with Microsoft going through their ... Read more

A:{Advice Given} - Multiple NT User Profiles

Greetings

Check to see which services are running BEFORE a user logs on (ie. set at either boot, system or automatic). Then see if any of them is being run using a USER's account, and not a system or service account.

What sometimes happens is that you install a program that comes with an NT service (like a virus protection software), and during installation either you (or the user that is installing the software) does not click the correct setting and uses their own acount to run the service. So, whenever they start their computer, their NTUSER.DAT file is opened by the service. Then, when they try to logon, NT can not open their NTUSER.DAT file as it is already open. So, it just creates a new profile.

The reason why rebuilding the machine works, is that it is likely that you install the offending service correctly.

Hope that helps

Hi!, OldDogEyes welcome to W7F

It would be difficult, unless you could keep them separate somehow.

You would have to preface the laptop features with laptop, and in turn the desktop with the desktop's features.

It would be nice if the system specs area was like a spreadsheet,
Then column A would be Laptop, and column B the Desktop.
You would still have to alert other members that are reading your post as to which system your asking about.

I didn't see anything in the rules/info about it.
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-d...ease-read.html

But it is a good question. I'm going to see if one of the mods could move your post to the "General Discussion" forum because it would get better visibility there.

If the mods can move your post you will see a re-direct to it.

I did more than one system restore and each time the process created a new user folder. I first theought all my settings were lost but since discovered I had several new user folders and the computer was no longer using my original folder when I logged in. Here's what I ORIGINALLY had:

Administrator
Owner
All Users
CHASDT

Here's what I have now:

Administrator
Owner
All Users
CHASDT (has my original settings which I want to use)
CHASDT.000
CHASDT.001
CHASDT.002
CHASDT.003 (has temporary settings I've set up since the problem statrted)

I always log in as owner - domain is CHASDT - How do I get the computer to go back to the old system profile?

Thanks

Instead of trying to revert to your old profile, copy your old profile into the newest one.

You'll get your old settings back into your new current profile

This is hard for me, but will likely be easy for you folks.

I'm a consultant with multiple clients. One of those clients is bringing me onsite, giving me a laptop and setting me up on their internal email system.

Here’s the problem. I will be getting emails from other clients that will be sent to my consultant email address while at the same time getting emails sent to my onsite address.

I'd like them both to come to the same inbox. But, when I reply, I'd like my sender information to reflect the correct profile. I.E. replies to emails that came to the consultant address are replied to from that address. Replies to emails that came to the onsite address get replied to from the onsite address.

Is that possible? Thanks all!

A:How to use Outlook for multiple profiles (replying)

If you customize the view entry, you can add "From." Then when you send an email, you can choose what email address to send it from. However, just opinion, but I prefer to keep work emails and personal emails in completely separate .pst files. In that case, you have to create a new profile for the work account. You can do this by going into Control Panel and selecting the Mail icon.

I just recently got a computer with Vista. I loaded Office 2007 and then tried to set up multiple profiles with Outlook. Unforutunately, no matter which profile I use, when I shut it down and try to reopen with a different profile, it freezes. Anyone know of a fix for this?

First timer here. Hoping somebody can help.

What I'm trying to do is toggle back & forth between two user profiles within Outlook while it's open and running (just as you're able to within Outlook Express).

Let me further explain...
1. I set up multiple user profiles for Outlook 2002. (Not a problem)

2. When starting Outlook it'll ask me to select a profile.
Then, Outlook will open the selected profile accordingly. (which is fine)
However, to be able to switch from one profile to the other
(e.g. - Switching from Profile A -to- Profile B),
I must close Outook, restart it, then select Profile B.

3. Summary: I don't want to have to close Outlook & restart it to switch
between multiple profiles.

Does anybody know if this is possible? If so I'm hoping you'll be kind enough to explain how to make this happen in an elementary like way so that I don't screw things up.

Thanks for any help you may be to provide.

Leonard

I want to have separate profiles setup in Win 7 64 where by:

Shows one login/user when the system locks and depending upon the password provided....
....system opens the appropriate, linked profile.
Have searched forums, Google, etc...and have come up with nothing. If this is a piece of software or a Win7 Hack....I'll do whatever is required.
Think about this if you're a programmer!!! I travel frequently and sometimes need the ball and chain to reboot the system or do something on the local machine but I don't need her snooping (things aren't so great at home). I already use LogMeIn and it works great but I believe in Belt and Suspenders. With something like this, you could give someone "your password" and not have to worry because it is a FRONT account.

So, in short;
Multiple Windows User Profiles

Linked by separate passwords
with different access rights to folders, drives, programs, etc...
but each only pulls up what is tied to that account/profile based on THE PASSWORD input.

This is or would be the ultimate security tool!!!!

A:Possible - MULTIPLE Win 7 user profiles with DIFFERENT PASSWORDS???

Windows Users are based on the account name, not password, and assigns rights based on user ACL, not password. Even if you were able to get to where one user account could use multiple passwords, you'd also have to rewrite the Windows security ACL mechanism to allow different rights to the same user based on the password. What you are asking is by no means trivial, and seems kind of counterproductive too - you can simply log in with different user accounts and passwords. Is there a reason or scenario where specifically you'd want to do it this other way?

I currently use Netscape as my browser. I have several profiles set up so everyone in my family has there own bookmarks, homepages, address book, mailbox, etc. I am thinking of switching over to IE to match what my wife and I are using at work. I have not been able to find a way to set up multiple profiles in IE. Is this possible? How do you do it?
Thanks in advance, Larry

A:Multiple profiles for Internet Explorer

Follow this to install Microsoft Family Logon. Then in the article click on the link for "Description of User Tools on ControlPanel" to setup UserProfiles. That's all there is to it. After it's setup you'll get a logon box at startup where each user must logon to get their own set of preferences. When you're setting up the user profiles you'll see a set of selections for what you want to customize. If it's only Favorites you want customized then just select Favorites. The other stuff like Desktop, etc.. will be universal if not selected.

<a href=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q176/0/57.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=Profiles&rnk=21&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98> MS Family Logon </a>

BTW, if you've never used IE then you might have an older copy. I suggest you go <a href=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/ie501sp1.htm> here </a> and get IE version 5.01 before you get started with user profiles. The most recent version is 5.5 but it has some bugs so I suggest you stay at 5.01.

Let us know what happens.

Hi All

Please can someone help me, I have just found out how to set up different profiles in Outlook 2007, ie business, home villa rentals etc.

Now I need to transfer the emails for each profile from my standard outlook profile, where they are stored in individual folders.

Please can someone advise me on how to do this, as to click on each individual e-mail and forward to the new profile email address will take days to complete.

Really appreciate any assistance you can give on this.

I am running Outllok 2007 on my laptop and use it for all communications. I have it setup to receive my personal e-mail, my personal business' e-mail and the Scuba shop that I manage's e-mail. I also have the respective 3 different contact lists as well and claendars. The calendars I am not so concered with becaseu quite frankly one calendar will be easiere to manage.

Until now I had them setup in three different Outlook profiles., When I want to check one, I close Outlook, reopen and select the Profile. It's actually a pain in the butt. I didn't want to mix up the contacts mainly.

Is there a way to combine the 3 profiles now? If I do, is there a way to keep the contacts separate from work and personal?

Thank you for your advice and help.

I am not sure... but have you tied under that advanced setting of the main email account to add the other accounts to "Open these additional mailboxes" option ... or is that only available when it is connected to an exchange server

hey all,

just a quick question whilst I await a HJT diagnoses I read in the CC Cleaner tutorial and was not aware that if you have more than 1 user profile on a single machine you have to run CC CLeaner on each user account????? does this also apply to any/all Anti virus, malware, and spyware removers as well?? thanks

A:Multiple profiles on a single machine

Most, if not all, malware/anti-virus scanners will scan all user profiles. CCleaner is annoying because, yes, it has to be run on every account.

We are trying to setup two email accounts for each user in our office using Outlook 2003. One account is a basic POP3, and the other is using Windows Server 2003's POP3 Service to use as an intraoffice account. The problem occurs when sending. If the webmail account is set as the default, any intraoffice email won't send. And, if the intraoffice account is set as the default, webmail won't send. I know the problem must be with the default account's SMTP. I was wondering if Outlook can determine what SMTP to use depending on the recipient's email address. I hope that makes sense. THANKS!!
