Blue Screen that shows error and causes auto shutdown

Q: Blue Screen that shows error and causes auto shutdown

I will be working on something and this blue screen of death will pop up and then totally close windows and restart. I haven't had time to catch what exactly it says but i can give you any details from the Program Reports and Solutions tool. I have also relized that i now cannot open Outlook 2007 Adobe Photoshop. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and doesn't work. Ran Office Diagnostic Tool, no help. Tried to repair from Add/Remove Programs, says there was an error and cannot complete. There is something wrong with my Outlook.pst file and im not for sure what. I ran Scanpst.exe for Office 2007 on that file and still no help. I keeps saying that its not a Personal Files Folder. With the Photoshop, when I try to open it immidiatly says "Photoshop has stopped working" and doesn't open at all. Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Blue Screen that shows error and causes auto shutdown

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Blue Screen that shows error and causes auto shutdown

Hi,

Welcome to Tech Support Forum.

uTorrent and Limewire are installed on your computer. While both are clean P2P programs, there's no guarantee that the files downloaded are. Please refrain from using them while cleaning your computer to prevent getting more infections.

A list of clean and infected P2P programs can be found at Malware Removal and Spyware Info.

The risks of using a P2P program are stated in this Sourceforge website and Information Week article.

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion g series laptop (running win7) that is in a continuous restarting loop. This happened after the computer auto updated (windows update). I do not know what was updated, but now every time the laptop starts up it seems to be in a continuous rebooting loop after the windows logo then a blue flash. I am unable to go into safe mode or any other mode as I keep getting redirected to a page that gives me two options:Launch Startup Repair or Start Windows Normally. Startup repair gives me the same results as trying to run in safe mode.

By turning the auto-restart on system failure off i was able to read what the blue error message, which says:
-

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is your first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check you hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive curruption, and then restart your computer.

Bug Check 0x7B: INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check has a value of 0x0000007B. This bug check indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has lost access to the system partition during startup.

Quote:
Cause

The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check frequently occurs because of a boot device failure. During I/O system initialization, the boot device driver might have failed to initialize the boot device (typically a hard disk). File system initialization might have failed because it did not recognize the data on the boot device. Also, repartitioning the system partition or installing a new SCSI adapter or disk controller might induce this error.

This error can also occur because of incompatible disk hardware. If the error occurred at the initial setup of the system, the system might have been installed on an unsupported disk or SCSI controller. Some controllers are supported only by drivers that are in the Windows Driver Library (WDL). (These drivers require the user to do a custom installation.)

Hi,

I would like to discuss one issue I am facing from past few months:

My machine restarts itself and displays a blue screen which contains any of the message from below:
MEMORY_MANAGMENT
BAD_POOL_HEADER
COM+ system has stopped working

Also, while working it doesn't restart but shows from following messages:
grep.3xe has stopped working
Superfetch has stopped working

I started getting these messages/issues since last 8-10 months only. Previously system was working fine for almost 3 years.

I am worried that if this is some hardware issue, driver issue, windows issue or this is due to some malware/Virus.

It would be great if you can suggest on these.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm having a weird issue where I get a blue screen error on shutdown. It hasn't occurred while running windows applications. It started happening a few days ago. I believe that day I was setting up drivers for Lib-usb to run a ps3 controller as a joystick. It required me to install microsoft visual C++ 2008 Express edition and of course, the driver itself.

The last couple of days have been pretty busy, I've been doing a lot of work on PC. I believe I also updated my Nvidia drivers to incorporate photoshop CS4's new OpenGL support. That should be about all that I have installed, though.

Here's my system specs, and blue screen report.

Gateway FX 6802 with:
Windows 7 home premium (64 bit)
Intel i7 920 clocked at 2.67ghz(stock speed)
12Gb memory
1Tb Hdd

A:Blue screen error on shutdown

That change is a good possibility for the fault -- as I have seen that particular issue before with that type of ps3 USB controller driver. A system restore would be the easiest fix to test. These can be undone if not helpful.

But some memory dumps might confirm this.

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.
If you do not see any minidumps, be sure you are not using any cache cleaner such as CCleaner. Also run sysdm.cpl and select Advanced > Startup and Recovery. Make sure "small memory dump" is the one chosen under "write debugging information" and the location should be %systemroot%\minidump

A:blue screen error on shutdown

If u run a new software it maybe that the driver is not compatible with your Windows XP version or u have a virus which is behind this.
Go to the safe mode (start your computer and press F8..Choose Safe Mode).
Log in as administrator (of course lollll) and then uninstall the program u installed or run a scan of your computer and delete malicious trojans or viruses.
If this does not work try to restore your system to a previous date by using the restore system function.
Good luck

Every now and then about 1 time a day while im acutally doing something it will shutdown to blue screen with an ntfs.sys error saying it shutdown to save any damage to my computer.

I have no idea why it does this it just seems random but it never does it while my computer is left on idle or just doing something without me there. What causes these errors?

A:Blue screen error - ntfs.sys shutdown

Hi Douglasfermie...

the errors could be caused by a few things but as ntfs.sys is involved, I think now would be a good time to backup any important data to another hard drive and/or DVD/CD as it could be a sign of a failing hard drive. You could try downloading the hard drive manafacturer's diagnostic tools to perform some indepth scans on the drive to see if it is able to detect any problems.

Does your computer ever emit any clicking/clunking sounds?

Hello,
I reformatted my Dell Inspiron 1545 and did a clean install of windows 7 home premium with the cd that came with the laptop. It's a clean install because I used dban to erase the hard drive. Now the laptop would crash and give me a blue screen error whenever I'm using it. Also ie 11 (if I get there before a crash) would some times freeze or worse cause a blue screen error. Please help. I've uploaded the file from the dm log collector. I'm doing this in safe mode.

I wasn't able to get the blue screen error code but I got this from running check for solution in control panel.

I am having major problems with my computer shutting down. I get a blue screen with many different messages. The lastest is 'WDM Driver Error 224, [asapiwzk.sys+4000 a7 F87E3000] I have also had 'memory management' and many others. Anyone understand this? I have uploaded this stuff to microsoft but no replies or help.

Hi,

Go to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, and look for any area that has a red or yellow driver error flag....update that driver. Especially look in the Audio area for 'WDM Driver Error 224 because that one can be a sound driver issue (as well as other area, I might add).

Have a look at some of the old errors on your computer to see if this sheds any light;

Left Click on Start Menu.
Right click on Computer and choose manage.
Click on the event viewer.
You now have loads of options to try and pin down what is happening.
Expand the error tab.
Look for things in the last 24 hours.

What software are you running in the background?

Two of the three (at least) ppoint to memory (memory exceptiosn) as the cause.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Good day.

Ive been having some problems, lately. It started when i installed some updates via microsoft update. I cant recall what i installed. but since that update everytime i try shutdown or put the computer on standby it goes to the blue screen of death and it dhows this message "power state driver failure" or something like that. Anyway ive been searching google for this problem and foun out that this problems cause is written in a minidump file created by windows itself. Ive attached a minidump file and i hope some one will be able to see what the problem is here. BTW, im using a laptop, and a laptop which cant be put on standby isnt a laptop at all, so i really hope you can help me. About a week ago I noticed my computer became uncharacteristically slow, so I ran a full computer virus scan to check for infections and nothing turned up.

Yesterday I found the culprit of the slow down, it was a process called "system interrupts" it was using 25% of my processor all the time. I came back to my computer an hour or so later to a blue screen that said windows has shutdown to prevent damage.

I restarted my computer in safe mode without networking, and system interrupts is not using more than .1% processor power, so something that gets turned off in safe mode must be the culprit.

After a couple of internet searches it seems that the problem is likely some that one of my hardware drivers is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.

What I would like to know is how I should check which hardware driver is the culprit?

Also, which drivers should would be a waste of my time to check? i.e. I would assume that the driver for my hard drive is not the culprit as it is still used in safe mode.

By the way this is a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS

Hey guys! A couple of things i would like to rectify

Firstly, within the last week my computer has began to produce random blue screens! i do recall experiencing this problems before however this was about 5 months ago and had not happened again until last week. I recently noted one of the blue screen messages which had a section that read

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000000C5 (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80550AE4)

I have also read in certain places that these sort of problems can be driver related however i haven't installed any major software lately.

Secondly, all windows updates that have been available to all elements of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 have been failing on my system for about 7 months. This include updates to the suite itself, Word, Outlook etc. All other updates to the operating system, IE7, WM11 have all been successful.

System Information is as follows:

HP Pavilion t760a
Pentium 4 3.20Ghz
512MB RAM
160GB HD
XP Home Edition SP2
Office Professional 2003

If any more info is required please just provide clear instructions on how to attain it and i will post ASAP!

thnx 4 ur help!

Hello mate. Seeing you onboard after a long time, and missing your 3D works.

Your BSODs are stop 0x116, usually a display/graphics related error. Though the display driver is the latest. So let us check the other things first?

Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: Speccy - Publish Snapshot of your System Specs .

Is the computer overclocked? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

Yeah.... First turn on the windows Internet Connection Firewall. start->controlpanel->internet connections. Right click on the connection for your ethernet card, and select properties. Click on the advanced tab. Put a check in the box for "use the internet firewall".

Now update windows. Most of the things that cause this have been fixed by various windows patches/hotfixes.

Welcome to the Forums!

Is this a BSOD (blue screen of death issue)? If so this will be moved and you can follow this link Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions in order to get the info needed to help.

Generally, this sounds like a driver issue from the searches of previous threads, possible bluetooth drivers, but again more info will be needed to be sure

Here's the story. I updated my laptop through Window Update a few month ago. After I updated, my laptop always hangs and shows the blue screen w/ something like 'crash dump' * i wasn't managed to read, it's just too fast ><*
So I uninstalled the updates but this problem still bugging me always.
Before I updating, my laptop worked pretty fine * if my memory serves me correctly *.

Btw, the frequencies of appearing the blue screen is just random. Sometimes it hangs for a few seconds (up to minutes sometimes), well sometimes it just shows me the blue screen after it hangs for a while.

When my laptop hangs, it seems like THIS WORLD IS SLOWER DOWN and freezes. If I was watching a video, the sound will be like 'Y...o...u........a..........r..........e..........a........w..........e...........s.......o........m.........e........' ( while the normal one will be 'you're awesome', of course). Sometimes there's no sound when it hangs, even though I was watching the video when it freezes suddenly. Oh yeah btw, the video will be fast forward itself til the part that it should've been.

Another thing is after blue screen it still manage to restart my laptop and I can shut it down just like nothing happened too -_-

I know this is complicated and my english and explanation really sucks but can anyone help me to solve this irritating problem ?

I opened up my computer today and I got a blue screen that flashed and restarted immediately.

Then I decided to install Windows again then I got this message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to yur computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drives. run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

obviously i can't do what it told me because I can't even start up my computer!

Does this error message and continuious cycle mean that my disk is dead? that I need to get a new computer? or what?
Thanks for all answers,

Mack

Hi elzebreaultjoen,

Welcome to TSF.

Please check MSI for Realtek audio driver updates.

As soon as your system becomes more stable, make sure to check Windows Update for updates.
