Most bizarre BSOD/rebooting issue EVER, 1 1/2 years ongoing, HELP!!

Q: Most bizarre BSOD/rebooting issue EVER, 1 1/2 years ongoing, HELP!!

IF YOU LIKE A CHALLENGE, THIS POST IS FOR YOU!!

I am about to write a novel here with all of the ridiculousness I've been through. Note: I am an advanced user myself, and I am seeking the help from THE MOST experienced, uber-advanced techies out there. I am going to need to hear the most bizarre, far-out ideas you can think of because I am at my absolute wits end.

Let me first say, BSOD's are only 1 of 3 issues I am having. The others are; -my system just freezing up and rebooting, and -my displays going out (as if the computer went to sleep, even though I have all that disabled) and after a minute or so, one display will come back but the other (the main one) will remain unresponsive.
--- If you don't want to read it all, you can skip to bottom for the summary. ---
Like the title says, this has been going on for well over a year. It's been mostly intermittent, so for a while I kind of just dealt with it, while reinstalling drivers here and there, testing memory, etc. Anything I did seemed to help for some amount of time, till it'd all start acting up again. In the beginning, BSOD's would throw random driver errors... as in THE MOST RANDOM drivers.

Back in Jan, after a fresh reformat and BSOD'ing again soon after, I posted a crash dump on another forum and someone pegged Daemon tools as the culprit. I got rid of that, and I seemed home-free... for about a month. Queue once again, the intermittent issues- some days nothing, some days 2 or 3 reboots/freez-ups etc. Again I am uninstalling & reinstalling drivers to try to find the issue. Still some random driver errors, and a bunch of new "windows uncorrectable hardware error" ones. And when it rebooted without the BS, I'd go look in the event logs and see this "WHEA" error.
--- INSERT LIFE(PC)-CHANGING EVENT ---
One day this past spring, the fan in my PSU decides to quietly die. Which, I can only deduct, fried my motherboard. I won't go into details, but I absolutely could not get anything to run, not even a virtual OS off of a CD. This prompted me to finally start replacing things, and I thought thank god, I can get rid of the issues I've been having.

I acquired an MSI G33M mobo, a QX6700 CPU, and Thermaltake 850w PSU. Reformatted my HD to go along with that. Everything is fine, yet again, for a short amount of time. My three intermittent issues are back.
Note: my BSOD's aren't throwing driver errors so much anymore, but a mix of "paged fault in nonpaged area" and "windows uncorrectable hardware error". Also note: I HAVE tested my RAM through all of this, ran MemTest overnight, and came up with no problems.

After some more time of dealing with this, I decided to get a new HD. Maybe, mechanically, mine happened to be failing?? I don't know but I was running out of things to replace. Along with the brand new HD, I tried an older video card (GeForce 9500), one I'd never had issues with. Perhaps that's the problem, since my displays would do that weird thing too.... nope! Within a couple days, I was experiencing my three issues of doom again. So I decide to just put my GTS 450 back in.

The new HD was almost 2 months ago now. Ever since, BSOD's aren't my most common issue, it's the freezing & rebooting that I'm getting the most. However, any BSOD's I DO get are ONLY the "Windows uncorrectable hardware error" one- they don't point to a driver or system file or anything.
---
SO... to make a long story short, the problem I am still trying to figure out... What is causing BSOD/freezing/rebooting/weird display thing AFTER ALL THE HARDWARE HAS BEEN CHANGED/CHECKED?!?
---

The ONLY constants that are left are my case, CD/DVD-RW, 2 fans, SATA cables, and 2nd HD. And the RAM, as I mentioned, I have tested. Now, I do have 2 sets of 2 different speeds of RAM (2x 2gb DDR3 2800 and 2x 2gb DDR3 3200), and before you say anything about that, I HAVE tried to pull out just the 3200's... still the same issues. I've checked the mobo mounts to make sure there isn't anything contacting the case that shouldn't be. Could it be the wiring to the power/reset button??

Let me also point out, there isn't any one particular thing that triggers any of the three issues. Sometimes it happens while I'm gaming, sometimes while browsing, and sometimes while I'm not even at the PC and it's idle. But they do seem to happen in bursts.... i.e., 5 days of peace and then 2 days of all three things happening half a dozen or more times.
Now, I did some digging not too long ago, and found the only remotely relevant explanation I can find that fits my scenario- the Realtek audio on the mobo (which my last mobo had, even though it was an AMD and this one Intel), having some weird conflict with NVidia graphics cards. However, I don't seem to have any options as far as chipset driver versions that I can install. I had uninstalled NVidia's HD audio thing- that seemed to work for a while, then of course everything started acting up again.

The only other solution that fits, albeit illogical, is there is a gremlin in my case.

I have done everything short of buying a whole new tower, which I can't do now that I spent the extra money I had on parts for this one. I'm ready to rip my hair out, after I throw this thing through the window. -.-

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dont like a challenge, so this long post is not for me

If you are having BSODs, post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Without having those, how long the description may be, it will not describe anything at all.

Okay, here's the basics: I'm working on a Gateway GT5058 with Windows XP Media Center 2005 for an older lady, who's grow son put a virus on it so bad, that it screwed up her recovery partition as well. No problem, I have an XP all in one disc with Media Center 2005 on it, i'll just reformat and put her code in and load her programs.
So, I load WinXP MCE 2005 from my all in one disc, and it comes up as MCE 2002 and her code (Printed on the MS sticker) will not pass activation. Now, i've loaded MCE 2005 on two other computers and it came up as MCE 2005, but on this one it keeps saying MCE 2002 and won't pass activation.
Now, if i run SIW, it tells me it's XP Pro! I downloaded 3 different torrent versions of MCE 2005 and each one had a bad file and failed to install. I don't mind using a hacked install disc, but I want to be able to use her Product Key Code and so far have not been able to activate.
I have been working with computer since Win 3.1 and this may be the first thing I can't solve. (I've had other things I couldnt' fix, but usually from bad hardware)
I'll listen to all suggestions, because although I wasn't standing over it the whole time I am now closing in on 50 HOURS of work on this one computer and still no resolution...
What ya got?

Hello, fellow tech support people. I am here today to explain a problem that I have been having with my Wi-Fi connection for a very long time. To cut to the chase my Wi-Fi connection basically turns off randomly and inconsistent times. Like, I would be using it then out of no where, the Wi-Fi would just shut off randomly. Not the entire router, just the Wi-Fi portion of the internet connection. I can still use the Ethernet cable when this happens and the Wi-Fi signal is still available to see whenever I scan for an access point using a wireless device, but no device can connect to it. The connection will not work back again until I unplug the router and unplug it back in. I am seriously at a loss for words and this has really been taking a toll my me for a very long time. At&T guys have even changed the cables connecting to my house from the utility pole and nothing still has changed. Please help me.

Im having a TDR issue specifically in the game iracing. The game will crash to a black screen within an hour. Outside of iracing the machine will prime95, memtest and 3dmark loop for 12hrs +. I have replaced PSU, Ram, Dual booted windows off either the SSD or HDD with the same issue. Formatted over 15 times, tried every single nvidia driver from 306 to 327, most off a fresh windows install.

I run the game in 3 monitor surround and the issue only seems to happen if SLI is enabled, testing each card singularly has no issues. Bios is most recent. Nothing overclocked. Temperatures are 63degreesC max on CPU, 76DegreesC max GPU.

Hello,

I've recently been having this issue with BSOD's on Windows login. I'm currently running a RAID array with 2 Samsung 250GB SSD's. Along with separate HDD of 3TB and 1TB. Other support sites have recommended me to update my AMD RAID controller, as mine is from 2012 in the device manager but i have had no luck in attempting this. Windows automatically restarts and I have access to my computer after each BSOD occurrence. I have also tried a fresh install of Windows with no external software watsoever with no luck as the BSOD still occurs. Ive checked the memory health with no issues stated. Help is appreciated if possible

Here's a weird one...

Lately when I reboot my machine, the volume icon is missing from the system tray and my antivirus icon loads in disable mode. In the Sound And Audio Device Settings dialog, the "Show volume icon in the taskbar" box is checked and an unchecking/applying/re-checking/re-appyling sequence will make the icon appear (the volume/sound doesn't seem effected adversely by any of this). For the antivirus, right-clicking the icon shows "enabled" on the popup menu, even though the icon is in disabled mode. The same unchecking/applying/re-checking/re-appyling sequence fixes this too.

The kicker is, when I logoff then back on, all icons are present and activated.

So, rebooting screws up the systemtray, loging off/on loads it correctly...

Thanks...

If it's XP, you could try System Restore & roll it back to a time before it was playing up.

Start / Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore

Running a CHKDSK wouldn't hurt either.

My Computer, Right Click on C:, Properties, Tools / Error checking. Tick the 2 boxes and reboot. That will find & fix any File errors.

After 3 days of troubleshooting and online research I discovered there were a lot of people having this same issue, but there didn't seem to be any answers - just the same series of advice/suggestions that didn't work.

Finally, I found this page, which listed a few solutions. I tried the one dubbed The Ostuni Workaround and it worked. Everything's back to normal.

My only question now is how it got screwed up in the first place...

My son was able to keep a Dell laptop that he used in a computing class. He used it for the entire year while learning about Windows 7 and some simple programming. A few months back, he confirmed the key code and reformatted the hard drive.

After a few weeks usage, the invalid copy notice popped up. He consulted his instructor who ended up furnishing another key. Recently, he reformatted again, and gave the laptop to his Mom. She's been using it for two weeks and recently started getting the same notice.

The laptop was donated by a local company who was upgrading as well as the key codes. With the instructor's strong christian beliefs, I can only assume that the key codes are legit.

Short of buying an off the shelf copy, how do I authenticate.

For a bit of background, I have moderate experience as a user on software, and minor experience with hardware. I am a bit comfortable in the command prompt, but not so much in the registry. Moving forward, I'd say I have almost no experience, however, with networking, so here I am!

Now, recently, I've been experimenting with idea of getting a VPN. I know free ones aren't worth a boo, but I wanted to try one out. So I installed CyberGhost 6 onto my computer. Of course, since it was the free trial it was ridiculously slow, so I didn't use it but for a moment. Since then, though, I have noticed every so often my internet- just on this device- my Win 7 64-bit laptop, the internet fails to be identified, and gets stuck in the DNS Error unable to resolve when I use any browser, nor will any other program connect successfully. Even More recently I noticed this occurs actually only once a day, every day, like clockwork.

Only a full computer restart will fix it. Nothing I do or try through my limited command prompt knowledge (related to ISPs) fixes it while the computer is still running.

Now, since I heavily suspect it was an installed program, I could probably just roll it back to before CyberGhost6/TAP-Windows Provider V9 Network adapters was installed (and I noticed Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter was removed during installation as well, but I'm not sure if that's affecting it), but I'd rather get to the root of the issue and actually fix it... Okay so heres the issue,my router login page (http://192.168.0.1) is permanently insecure. I have tried all different kinds of browsers, I have tried applying "HTTPS everywhere", ive manually entered https://192.168.0.1, and no matter what, every time im redirected to a page that warns me about connection to site is not secure. After doing a few nmap scans, I discovered that port 80 is as open as it gets on 192.168.0.1 and that a vulnerability in Microsoft Frontpage 5.0 may be to blame. Im sorry, Im very new to all this. I just want to get my network secure and keep it that way. So if anyone can tell me how I can potentially fix this issue that would be great!!!

I have been using a site online for almost a year now, and about 3-4 weeks ago, I started having problems with being logged out of my account too early. It gives me this error message saying "Your account has been disconnected, please log in again". So then I'll have to put in my username and password and start over again and find where I left off on the site. Then once I've been logged in the site and get back to doing my work on the site, it gives me the same error again.

I have talked with reps from the site three different times, and each time they assured me that everything was fine on their end. The biggest issue is that I'm a paid member on the site and I've never had an issue like this before that couldn't be fixed.

I have worked with another moderator on the malaware forum of this site, and have been cleared that malaware itself was not the issue. He then referred me over to this part of the board for help.

IMO it's the site's fault. I can't picture an IE solution. Just in case, try a different browser.

Hi,
I'm having this problem almost on a daily basis. I'll be connected to the internet just fine and then I'll start getting errors that tell me I've lost my Internet Connection (and of course I'm not able to connect to any sites).

I've been using the Internet Explorer (IE6) feature to repair the connection and for a while it was working to fix whatever was wrong but lately it's been telling me to seek support.

I've been using the WinSock XP Fix and that will work until the next time I lose connectivity...could be the same day, could be the next day.

I took screenshots of the latest report that IE6 gave me when I tried to fix the latest issue:

Hopefully the screenshots will help in determining just what is going on and can lead to getting this connectivity issue resolved once and for all.

Thanks for any help!

Hello,
Recently I have been having major problems with Windows Explorer giving me an error message stating that an error has occured and it needs to shut down. It happens at random and doesn't seemed to be linked with any particular application. Also I tried to uninstall then reinstall SP2 with the CD provided by Microsoft but towards the end of the Re-install I get an Access Denied Error message and the install is incomplete.
Is there anything in my HJT log that would point to the possible problem??
Thanks.

Hello

I am having an ongoing issue with my PC. Programs will crash seemingly at random - I performed a chkdsk on my ssd and hdd with no errors detected. I have also removed 3 of my 4 RAM sticks and swapped them over and run the pc for at least an hour with only 1 in at a time in each slot and still experience the same issue.

What has brought me here now is that I have just reformatted and I am still having problems.

Luckily I had my wireless card drivers on an external HDD which enabled me to use the internet (ethernet not an option currently).

However upon loading IE to download firefox.. every time I try to download a program now I get an error or it says the file is corrupted.

Even copying files onto my PC from the external results in the same issue.

I am currently midway through building a new PC so have a range of parts (bearing in mind this build has worked in tandem without any issue whatsoever for the last 3 months)

Core2Quad Q8400 2.66GHz (which I had overclocked to 3.2, and reverted in an attempt to stop the program crashes I was experiencing before the format - a stable overclock for the past 18 months).
8GB KINGSTON HYPERX RAM (though not currently using all the sticks together)
GTX 770
ASUS P5Q Deluxe
Windows 7 64bit

Also, IE has been crashing whilst trying to sign up to this site so that issue is still unresolved along with the corrupted downloads for every file I have attempted so far (firefox, steam, teamspeak3, etc).

Possibly worth noting I... Read more

For the past few weeks I have had a series of random internet troubles all with the same symptoms. These symptoms have persisted through a reformat and also a new NIC card. Here are the specifics:

I boot up into my account on windows xp, having the ethernet cable plugged into my Linksys network card the whole time (It's in a PCI slot if that will help.) It shows full connectivity and my internet IP address, subnet, DNS, etc. when I do ipconfig. It does not give me an ip address of 192.168.1.1xx but an actual IP address from the dreaded road runner ISP. Note, the router/cable is not the issue as I have been able to plug in my mother's laptop right to the cable and it worked without a hitch. Though all information appears perfect in the ipconfig menu, the computer still will not load any websites in IE/Firefox, ping any ips/websites, or allow me to access the internet in any form.

I do not always have this issue. Most of the time my internet/network works fine without an issue, this seems to be sparatic.

Another thing that happens sometimes during this issue is I will perform the "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" commands to attempt to clear any issue with the current IP (even though it may appear as it should) then it may re-assign me to a 192.168.1.1xx address. Now when I am on one of the 192.168.1.1xx addresses I can access my router page/setup at 192.168.1.1 but when I'm on of the other working internet IPs that my computer gets... Read more

This is the second time this has happened, now 2 days in a row. The FIRST time audio would play out of my system, but not my headphones while plugged in. This time, while plugged in, audio does not play in my headphones, or from my system's speakers. Last time repeatedly juggling the same options seemed to eventually work. But this time....it isn't.  Furthermore, no settings have changed. I do not know what is causing the problem, or what the solution is. What SHOULD happen is that sound should play from my onboard speakers, and sound be recorded from the onboard microphone. When I plug in using 3.5 jack) headphones or microphone those devices should take over. http://i.imgur.com/tT5a4VX.jpg

I'm really at my wits end with what to do with this machine. Sporatically, my physical keyboard and trackpad will stop working and the issue can't be reset until I let the unit battery drain and die. This is no way to use a laptop. I can not figure out a triggering issue for it, it happens randomly.  I have called the tech support hotline 3 times and tried chat twice and no one has been able to help me resolve this issue. The tech support personnel have been extremely unhelpful and have talked over me when I attempt to explain what is going on, and refused to transfer me to another associate or escalate my issue to a supervisor. I feel like I was sold a defective unit.  What can I do?

To start off, I had Windows 7 Professional loaded and working on a HP dv6700CTO. I upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate.

I had win7 working for about two days until one morning I opened my laptop lid and it gave me a black screen with the error "Operating System not found." I started the laptop up again and it got to the screen stating Starting Windows and just hung there. I tried to reinstall win7 from the original bootable flash drive that I used and when I get to choosing the hard drive to install/format, It can't detect my computer's hard drive. I then tried using a vista dvd to to access my hard drive but it hangs on a black screen with only the mouse pointer appearing after "Windows is loading files." Every now and then the same thing happens when using the win7 flash drive. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my hard drive or something else, I just received this hard drive as a replacement for a failed one a day prior to installing win7.

Any help would be much appreciated

this would be kind of normal, except i am using headphones.

A:Ongoing issue with apparent rootkit and/or virus attached to network card

I don't mean to "bump" this but since I've posted this message some other strange things have been happening that I really think is important for the person who hopefully is able to help me out with this issue.

1. When I go to virustotal.com to upload a file to check for potential virus's and click "upload" in firefox, upon browsing to c:\windows\system32\drivers, only 2 files are listed!  All the other files in this directory are missing. I've tried starting the browser and administrator, I've tried typing in *.* <enter> to make sure, and nothing.  When I browse to this same directory in windows explorer, all the files are there.  Even when I just blindly type the path to a file in this directory that is there, it does not see it or find it in firefox.

2. I have had strange things dealing with "Hewlett packard" pop up from time to time. My computer is a dell. My daughter has a very old hewlett packard in her room though.  I never did clean her computer after my initial rootkit.

3. One of the most telling signs oddly enough of my original rootkit that I found in my network card was that my wireless mouse would every so often twitch and do curly motions without me doing antyhing but just move it.  This went away but now it is back.  The rootkit that tdskiller wound up finding originally was called:

Hi,

I've been posting over in a software forum about my BSOD's, and I was advised to take it over here to the HW side.

I've been having BSOD's daily for several months now, with different problem descriptions, but by looking at Microsoft's descriptions of problem codes, it looks like most of them are memory related.

Also, I ran memtest86+, and found a faulty memory address.

So, I bought a new memory stick, and didn't have any problems for a few days, but now they're starting up again.

See this software thread for my latest problems, including 1001 system events and minidumps for each BSOD:

(All my pre-RAM replacement info is here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic17691-pg17.html&pp=20 Look for posts by "theberle.")

My wife had two more BSOD's last night, in successive reboots, immediately after logging in, then one more a while later.

See below for the 1001 system events, and I've attached their associated 3 Minidumps as a zip file. Please let me know ifyou want/need any more info about my system.

Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

I have recently replaced my Power Supply as I thought that may be causing the issue. Replaced an InWin Commander II 850watt Bronze with a XFX XTR 750 Gold.

Just to clarify this system was custom built about 4 years ago, to specs I requested. Ran smoothly with no BSOD till late 2013 and has been intermittent ever since. There have been no hardware changes other than the new PSU and addition of a SSD drive.

Anyhow am including DM Log Collector .zip for you to look at.

Hi all.
I have been struggling with freezes and BSOD now for a week. Since I installed a Gigabyte gtx 960 and it's drivers. I need the card so I can't just unhook it.
I have reinstalled my windows 7 a couple of times. automatic updates screws up. So I ended up with building a new win7 iso incorporating the updates with the tool NTLite and installing it.
It has been much more stable but I still get freezes and problems.
I run an older driver that I have read is more stable to the gtx 960.
The computer runs cold. No overheating.

Well that is all. I don't really know what to do. I will try the recommended tests.
and here goes the files.
Thanks for the help!!!

I just tried the driver verifier. And I couldn't even boot. I just went in to BSOD. so I thougth I should include files after that happened aswell. so the number two is those files.

Hi again
drivers test:
I didn't include the minidump file in my last post.
I was not sure about the minidump that corresponded to the crashes in my driver verifier. so I ran it again and with the same result.
I have now run it 3 times with the same result. so I would say that it is something with the drivers that is making the problem.

about the other tests
Hdd test.
my pc has a ssd drive as C drive and an 4tb hdd for storage just a couple of weeks old and have been working well before I installed the gtx 960.
I can't use the seagate tool. it says "finding RAM drive... Error reading from drive C: general failure". (C: is an ssd) I say it should ignore it because I will only use the program on the hdd.
I come in to the gui of the program and it freezes. I have tried native IDE, legacy IDE and AHCI.
During HDtune pro checking for bad clusters my win 7 froze after 30min, but smart says it is ok. My computer often just freezs for no reason.
The SSD tool works fine and says all is ok.

memmory test.
I have run windows memory test in dos mode for an whole night without any errors.
I will run memtest again this night using the memtest tool.

Edit: I just switched the RAM modules for an other pair. The computer seems much more stable. but I'm not sure yet. But it has taken longer than normal for the BSOD or freeze to set in.

Edit 2: I still get BSOD when running driver verifier. So somthing is not working.

As mentioned in my previous thread, or at least secretly implied, my computer is facing a constant series of BSOD's. It all started when I installed a watercooling kit which has halved my CPU temperature from 40 degrees to 20 degrees, which I hoped would be great for overclocking. Also some things for the RAM (I hoped to overclock them too). But nah, I am yet to ever get to that stage! I thought it was a lack of wattage, so I purchased a bigger, more energy efficient PSU and have just recently installed it.

The information from the BSOD is along the lines of this:

Quote:

Modification of system code or a critical data structure was detected.
*** STOP: 0x00000109 (0xA3A039D8959787E5,0xB3B7465EE814574B,0xFFFFF800033DEF60,0x0000000000000001)

I am running Ubuntu off a flash drive, and when doing nothing for a few hours when away at work for 3 hours, apparently an application (must have been a background one) seems to have crashed. Seems suspicious.

I'm going to first suspect the hard drive, and give that a check. Still... any other suggestions?

A:Ongoing BSOD after new hardware

This bsod means that a critical system function has been modified. This could be either a function that has been modified on a system file on the hard drive, or it could've been modified after the file image has been loaded into memory. Unfortunately that's all I can gather from just that line. Unless you can provide us with the actual crashdumps (in Windows\Minidump folder), that's all we can go on so far.

There's definitely some hardware that's causing this, so it means going through the motions of just doing hardware tests on any new hardware to determine the exact cause. Here's a list of tests that you can perform. Most have DOS/Linux versions of their test in case you can't use the Windows version. You can also use UBCD as a single boot cd that contains many of these (albeit somewhat outdated versions).

CPU: Prime95 (Torture Test; Blend; 9+ hours)
RAM: Memtest86+ (Run overnight)
HD: Seatools (Short & Long Self Tests)
GPU: MemtestG80/CL (extremely doubtful this is cause, but save for future reference)

Of course also ensure your voltages are appropriate.

I would make sure to advise in the future that any time you purchase new hardware that you take the time to perform strenuous testing of it to ensure it's stable. This will prevent lengthy troubleshooting.

About two years ago, I lost my sound and have been using my computer with no sound (Yeah... I know, it's pretty crazy..). I can't give a really detailed description of how it happened, as I do not remember. All I remember was that my mouse died along with the sound and I had to get a new mouse. Anyways, when it first happened, I tried almost everything I could think of to get the sound back - nothing worked. I eventually gave up and got used to having no sound and kept putting it away until now.

The volume settings aren't accesible at all and when I click on an audio file to open it in WMP, it gives me this message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." When I turn my speaks to the loudest volume, all I can hear is a faint static sound. I tried most of the basic things I could to get my sound back... the problem still persists. I need help.

If there's anything else that I need to provide for you guys, just say and I'll try my best.

This problem only occurs in Word.

Hi everyone...

I have a really weird thing going on in both IE and Firefox. My Facebook profile page is "stuck" on a version from a few days ago. I have tried EVERYTHING to refresh it...I have:

1. Cleared all caches and cookies
2. Deleted all sorts of temp files
3. Done a "hard refresh" in both browsers
4. Contacted my ISP, who had me a) unplug my cable modem for 30 secs, b) uplug my router for 30 secs, c) flush my DNS cache, and d) reboot

Nothing. Nada.

It happens only at home--when I'm on my laptop at a coffeeshop or on my computer at work, then I can access the profile just fine. It's something on this computer only.

I know my Facebook profile isn't all that important, but I'm just stymied as to why I can't get a web page to refresh no matter what. And get this--my wife, when she logs into her Facebook page on the same computer--hers refreshes instantly.

Hi all,

Since the hard drive got replaced on my laptop about a year ago, I've only had one working USB port on my laptop. This hasn't been an issue, as I've coped by using a USB splitter. Unfortunately, my laptop has recently started to behave differently depending on what I plug into the splitter.

For example, speakers always work when plugged into the splitter, as does my Numark Mixtrack Pro II DJ controller. However, I can't get any mouses to work. My laptop also doesn't detect my phone when plugged into the splitter.

I've tried removing the splitter and plugging a mouse/ phone directly into my laptop and it still doesn't work, so the problem clearly isn't the splitter. I've tried reinstalling the USB driver things in device manager, but I'm still having the same issue.

Wtf is going on? Running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, if that's relevant.

A:Bizarre USB port issue

I would suspect that the USB port is unable to supply the power required by some of the devices. Are you using a powered hub ("splitter")? There may have been some damage to your computer during the hard disk change that has cause this and the failure of the other USB ports.

Welcome to the forum.

It's odd because I can type just fine, but when I open a new program it does not have focus (ie appears in the background and I have to navigate to it). And if I open a full-screen slide-show it is forced to downsize.

I have stopped services, programs, processes, started new profiles, to no avail. I haven't tried safe-mode yet, but I'd imagine it probably wouldn't do it there because I don't think this is a windows-based process stealing the focus. Below is my HijackThis log. Any suggestions?

I received a response email from a good friend this morning, and the email she sent only showed up on my Samsung tablet. I have Comast.net email. I checked all other options...my iPhone, my MacBook, my desktop Mac and the actual Comcast.net website where the webmail account originates. Nothing came in from her at any of those places (including Spam or Trash folders), but I did get the email on my tablet in the email program I set Comcast.net up in. This has never happened before, and I don't understand how it could happen. Keep in mind her email was a response to mine sent yesterday, so it isn't even like she started with a fresh email addressed wrongly somehow.

Any thoughts?

I'm a bit nervous with all the talk of a huge Android hack, since my tablet is obviously Android based, although my other devices are all Apple.

Should I be worried about some sort of hack or is it just a fluke that will likely not happen again?

My MS keyboard is behaving weirdly. When I press shift+2, it gives " instead of @

Likewise other keys have their symbols swapped.

Problem came up after installing windows 8 but am not too sure I should be blaming MS for it.

Is it software or hardware issue? Any ideas?

*** is going on? Running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, if that's relevant.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

What happen to the USB ports? Were they blown out?

I'm not sure when it started since I don't spend much time in this menu (though I'm sure it worked before), but my Settings app currently looks like the attached picture (that Fez icon is my user icon, if you were curious). It's basically illegible. When I try to change the color scheme, nothing really happens. Most of my apps work fine (and this issue is pretty much non-existent in Desktop mode), but many of the settings are basically inaccessible to me currently. Any ideas short of a system restore or something similar?

Turns out this was an issue with my Nvidia drivers. The most recent ones cause this issue but when I rolled back to an older version (from June or July) the problem was gone.

My network completely collapsed for no good reason after taking the client machine apart and putting it back together exactly the same way. It worked perfectly before that.

In trying to set it back up, nothing worked, and I found it easier to uninstall ALL protocols and services, (apart from TCP/IP), and network adapters from both machines, and re-installing them to give myself a clean slate to work from.

OK, with that done, the folowing protocols are installed...

Client for MS networks
QOS packet scheduler
File and printer sharing for MS networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
NetBios
IPX/SPX/Netbios compatible transport protocol.

The last two are installed purely to support a game or two that seems to prefer networking with them but otherwise aren't there for anything.

Windows firewall was then turned OFF on both machines, and the remaining firewall on "Server" (Sygate personal pro) was set to allow all, rendering it harmless.

OK, First the network setup wizard was run on the internet machine ("Server"). It was then run on the client machine ("client")

Both machines can ping each other on the network with no problems. A portscan of client helped me find out I could telnet succesfully to port 17 (qotd) of client, which I did because I was bored. No problems there then!

The network MSHOME, on both machines, shows that both "Client" - and "Server" - are connected

"Client" has an inter... Read more

Change your attachment IMMEDIATELY. Never publish your ISP's IP-address!
And also don't publish your NIC's MAC-address (see my xx-xx-xx etc. below)

Using a router and fixed IPs, my ipconfig /all looks as follows:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . .: pc's name
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139(A) PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101 (my PC's IP)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 (my router's IP)
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 (ditto)

All my other PCs are the same except for their own IP-address.

In your attachment I noticed incongruencies between the 2 setups:
Client has DHCP enabled, Server not
Both have IP Routing and Wins Proxy enabled, this should be DISabled.
Server has no Default Gateway.

I think I gave you this link already, but look again:
Have a look at the attachment here:

OK. So my computer will no power on inside my house specifically. It turns on fine at best buy or even in my neighbor's house, but not at my house. Yes I am using a surge protector. Yes I tested all the outlets in the house. Yes I checked my outlets with a volt/ohm meter. Everything seems to check out and all my other devices work perfectly. Before I moved to this house the computer worked well in my old apartment for months. Also, I have already rellaced the psu and the cmos battery, and yes I have still only been able to power it on using outlets in other buildings besides my house. Any ideas? I am getting so frustrated.
