I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm on Windows XP SP2, Netscape 7.2, Linksys router BEFW11S4, ISP Comcast. After successfully obtaining my Comcast email via Netscape 7.1 and 7.2 for months, I suddenly started getting an intermittent "connection refused", specifically "could not connect to server mail.comcast.net connection refused" and only to my Comcast ISP email server. All other web site access works fine including sending mail through their SMTP server which has never been a problem.

I say intermittent because a first time connect to get my email works following any reboot of my PC. A second and subsequent "get messages" email access request after a reboot usually gets the connection refused message. I therefore have to reboot my PC most times I want to check my ISP email via Netscape 7.2. Comcast offers a "webmail" option getting your mail directly through an IE browser. That has always worked fine but isn't nearly as convenient as Netscape email.

Then just to make this more interesting, after a variable number of reboots, but generally after a day or 2 of them, the problem mysteriously clears and I can get mail indefinitely via Netscape without the connection refused problem. This works fine, sometimes for a few weeks, so long as I don't have to reboot for other reasons. If I have to reboot my PC (because of a software, anti-virus or other update) I'm back to square one and can't get my email again after the first try without getting ... Read more

I am new to this forum so I will do my best! I work for a small company so our resources are thin. The problem I am about to describe happened to one of our staff. She is no longer able to retrieve her email. She is running windows XP and using Netscape 7.2 for her email client. The problem happened suddenly in the middle of the day - she had been working in Microsoft Word and had not loaded anything new on her computer or changed any settings. When she launched Netscape Mail and clicked on 'Get Messages', she immediately gets the message 'Could not connect to server - connection refused'. I checked all of the server settings and nothing looks out of the ordinary - I even did a side-by-side comparison of another computer using Netsacpe mail to be sure that everything was the same. I then loaded Eudora 6 to see if the problem was a corrupt Netscape, but the same error occurs. I then went to another computer and set her up in Netscape, and everything worked fine. So now I can conclude that the problem is with her workstation. Any clue?

A:Cannot retrieve email - connection refused

Ah, the old "but I didn't change anything" defense. Trust me. She changed something. She just can't remember what it is. I can't count how many times I've had someone say that only to discover sometimes days later that they installed a new application or changed their password or any number of things.

The only explanation for a computer spontaneously changing files and settings without ANY user interaction is a virus.

Hi... I'm in help desk in my company. We're having an issue with emails sent to Hotmail, they're being rejected. Microsoft answered, via website:

"Welcome to Microsoft Community. We understand how important for you to be able to send an email to Microsoft accounts from your domain account.

You need to get in touch with the Microsoft Sender Support Team. They have to fill out the e-form that can be found on the following link to solve your issue with the error code 550 SC-002 where your emails sent from your domain to Microsoft Account rejected for policy reasons.

If you are the 3rd party Domain Administrator:

Please review our policies and guidelines at http://postmaster.live.com.
If you are in compliance, submit a support request to our Email and Delivery Filtering Services team by clicking on the link to the e-form under the troubleshooting section in the postmaster site mentioned above.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you. "

... but the problem is that mails sent to Gmail are being rejected too... So I suppose that our servers are being considered as spammers, for the time being, for some reason. Is there a workaround to this without having to contact either Hotmail or Gmail? That's dealing with obnoxious bureaucrats... if you ever can get a hold of them...

Hi!,

This is a new one for me.

I NOTICED I WAS NOT RECEIVING BOUNCED BACK, "MESSAGE DELIVERY FAILURE" OR SIMILAR INCORRECT OUTBOUND E-MAIL MESSAGES COMING BACK THAT I ADDRESSED INCORRECTLY.

Comcast 6 Mps is my ISP.
Windows XP Professional
Outlook 2003.
Only recent new software within last month when this started happening is IE v.7.beta 2.
I FIRST NOTICED THIS WITH SOME PERSONAL E-MAIL DISTRIBUTION LISTS IN WHICH I HAD NOT CLEANED OUT A COUPLE "BAD" E-MAIL ADDRESSES THAT CONTINUALLY CAME BACK AS UNDELIVERABLE. THEN, MORE RECENTLY, I FURTHER CONFIRMED THIS WHEN I NOTICED THAT INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED E-MAILS FOR MY BUSINESS E-MAIL ADDRESS (A POP3 THAT I USE WHEN I WORK OUT OF HOME SOMETIMES) WERE NOT COMING BACK AFTER I REALIZED I INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED AN OUTBOUND E-MAIL ADDRESS.

THEN, FINALLY, I TESTED VARIOUS INCORRECT OUTBOUND E-MAIL ADDRESSES TODAY FOR BOTH MY PERSONAL AND BUSINESS E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND NONE OF THE DELIBERATELY, INCORRECTLY ADDRESSED OUTBOUND E-MAIL ADDRESSES WERE BOUNCING BACK TO ME. [ I ALSO HAD AN ASSOCIATE IN ANOTHER STATE, NON-COMCAST USER SEND OUT SOME OF THE INCORRECT OUBOUND E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND HE DID GET THEM BOUNCED BACK TO HIM] THE LATEST INCORRECT OUTBOUND E-MAIL ADDRESS I TESTED FOR BOTH MY PERSONAL '[email protected]' AND BUSINESS OF '[email protected]' IS '[email protected]'

I'm lost on this one and Comcast is, well, Comcast.

Help!

Thanks.

JHH

Hey everyone, I have been trying to play a few games on my laptop recently, and I've noticed the oddest thing. Take Dungeon Siege 2 for example; I start the game up, graphics are set to high, and the game runs smooth as butter. About 5 minutes go by and then I hit a massive lag spike, my frame-rate drops from 40 to 10. This lasts for about another 5minutes then... its back to being smooth again? It will keep doing this switch back and forth constantly. The game only uses about 400mb of ram, and even when its being laggy, lowering the graphics to bare-bones doesn't make the slightest difference.

I tried setting the core affinity to 1, 2 or both, that doesn't seem to make anything better. I tried raising the app priority, but vista keeps reseting it i think. And oddly, by minimizing the game and waiting about 30seconds, the game will go back to being smooth again.
What is going on??

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

I've been trying to find a solution to the problem and it led me here. However my problem isn't the same as the firefox 'bouncing' problem already mentioned in this forum.

Example:
When viewing hotmail I can visit my inbox but when i try to view any messages I get a very brief glimpse of the message before it bounces me back to the inbox.
With other sites it often just refreshes the page if i click on any avenues within the site.

I tried deleting cookies via the toolbar cos that sorts out some problems.

I only got to this forum through explorer (yuk).

I apologise if this is a question that has already been answered but my problem isn't very easily searchable through keywords.

A:Firefox keeps bouncing back to a previous page.

...also revisiting a tab in firefox causes that page to refresh. Not really a problem but displaying all the symptomes will help in diagnosing the problem.

I also tried re-installing firefox. That didn't work.

Please, any thoughts on this, it's driving me up the wall.

Hello, everyone, and thank you for any assistance you can provide with this issue. I searched for an answer using Google and the TG search function, but the issue is inherently difficult to search for, as it brings up a lot of off-topic results. If this has been asked and answered, a link to the answer would be appreciated, thanks again.

When working on my computer, I practice a sort of extreme mult-tasking - that is, I usually have numerous Office & PDF programs open and more specifically 3-4 IE browser windows at any given time.

I frequently click to a new page, or action, on one page, then switch back to Word, or to another window in the meantime while that page downloads, even if this only takes a second or two - that's a couple of seconds I could be doing something else.

IE does not seem to cooperate in this regard, however, in that I will often find myself unwillingly dragged back to a browser window, when the page has finished downloading, when there is activity there, PW request, etc. Is there any way to prevent IE from switching windows on me against my will, so that I will only be on the browser window I choose and never be dragged back to an old window, regardless of what is going on there?

I am using IE7; however, the same thing happened with my earlier IE6.

I have cable Internet, but I am also using a old and slow computer - will an upgrade solve this?

If so, given my penchant for mult-tasking, is a dual core processor the way to go?

A:Internet Exlorer windows bouncing back and forth

Welcome, LAEsquire.

I think the word you're looking for is "focus." You click on a certain window to get the focus there. Then some other application or window wants your input or wants you to see a message and it grabs the focus (and you find yourself typing into thin air!).

I know of no way to change this operation. Maybe there is a registry tweak.

Since this is a general Windows feature I suggest that you click on the red triangle and ask a moderator to move this thread to the Windows XP forum, where you are more likely to find an expert who knows about this.

A:Windows Live Hotmail suddenly bouncing back emails

Hi Aroominyork, it is possible the mail server you use for sending mail has been added to a black list which is now causing you issues.

You need to find the IP of your SMTP server (which you can find probably in the returned emails), if not then copy and paste the contents of one of the returned emails here and we should be able to find it.

When you have the IP, try typing it in here and see what results you get.

Greetings.

An associate gave me his email, which is registered at hotmail.com. I only have his email. I have tried sending emails to him, but all of them hard bounced from both a hotmail and a gmail account. I know the email exists because I have attempted registering with that name at hotmail and it said it's taken. Gmail says that the mailbox could not be found. We originally discussed a Windows Live Messenger conversation.

- could a WLM account work and exist without an accompanying email account?
- what exactly is happening? could it be a hotmail issue? (I can send email from my gmail to my hotmail so not sure about that)

Much appreciated.

About every 3-4 minutes, I get a messages "connection refused", it appears that my internet connection is temporarily disabled -- after reloading a few times (about 30 seconds) it will finally go through. This happens continously, without let-up, and has been going on for about 3 days.

I have cleared my cache and temporary internet files. It happens on both Netscape and IE 6.0.

I am connected via cable. Before I call the cable company, I was wondering if there was some type of computer thing that needs correcting.

Any ideas on this one?

More about this error: This essentially means that the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it. There is no firewall protection on this port.

well im trying to setup a half life server but i cant until i figure this out.

A:connection refused

Perhaps it just a matter of some confusion about what "the port is open to the internet but has no services associated with it" means.

Some program (or service) on the computer has to be "listening" on that port and responding to what it "hears." Maybe your "half life server" will be that program?

two days ago when connecting through ftp to my host i received an error message #550 saying connection refused.
I checked with my host and they find no fault in their server. I connected also successfully to the server from my home computer by dial-up connection.
today the program refused to connect in the morning, some time later I connected and uploded files, and later it refused to connect again.
Now I connected without problems from my home computer on dial-up amd uploaded files.

the problem is probably in my computer but i don't know how to find and correct it.

Every time I try to make a FTP connection with this computer I get a "Connection Refused" or "Unable to connect" type error. I know it's not because of my network because my other computers on the network can use FTP just fine. Therefore I'm pretty sure that the problem lies within the computer instead of the network.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have McAfee for security (Firewall, virus-scan and the like). I've tried disabling the firewall and that didn't work. Also my results don't change regardless of the FTP client I use.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks,
Yxba

What antivirus program are you using and what anti-spyware/malware software do you use?Do you have a firewall protecting your machine?the .com page is a porn page and if you didn't type it in to access it you have been hijacked. The first thing you need to do is run the latest version of AdAware with the latest definition files. If you do not have that as yet, you can get it here:*AdAware SE: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/(stick with the freeware version despite the fact they will try to get you to upgrade to the paid version)After downloading and installing AdAware SE, open it, and click on "check for updates now" on the bottom right side.Install the updated definitions and run a full scan. Then do the same with Spybot Search and DestroySpybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.htmlMod Edit - inappropriate link removed - Leurgy

I am having a problem staying connected to the internet both at home and in the office where I connect thru the network. Everything will be fine for a few hours then all of a sudden I will get an error message saying ?The connection was refused when attempting to contact ?.?

I have checked and the windows firewall is not active. I have disabled everything with Norton?s. When I run a registry check there is always one error so I think something is changing the registry.

I am running Windows XP. The same thing occurs whether I am using dialup or T1. It occurs using either IE or Firefox.

The strange thing is that everything will be fine for 15 min to 1 hour then all of a sudden I get that error and I have to re-boot to get online. It will then work fine for a while and it starts all over. No particular website either. Any ideas?

I keep getting this message when I try to go to Gmail.
"Connection was refused when trying to contact google.com"
I'm using Firefox v. 1.0.4
I'm using Norton, but I don't think it's a problem with a firewall.

I have tried everything I know!

Any help AT ALL would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have checked for Spyware with both SpySweeper and Ad-Aware and found a few but nothing critical. After removing no change.

I tried all the suggestions from yesterday to no avail. Any other ideas on where to check?

Do you think it is a windows xp problem? Can I run repair from the install disks?

A:Update connection refused - still need help

Strange indeed. First Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Hello, I am posting because of a very annoying problem I am having. I've had a PCMCIA wireless card for about 6 months now, and it has been running fine under Windows XP Home until a few weeks ago. I thought perhaps that the card itself had broke, so I tested it in an older laptop I have, also running Windows XP Home, and the card was detected and working. Next I though perhaps my PCMCIA slot had broke, in which case I tested it with *two* other PCMCIA cards I have, both were detected by Windows and ran perfectly. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling driver, and I even resorted to wiping the HD, reformating and doing a clean install of Windows, but I still get the tripple beep that is associated with Windows having an error detecting a device. Can someone please help me?

Thanks in advance.

I've set up a small and simple network for someone.

A netgear dg834g router
...wired connecthion to fileserver
...wired connection to workstation1
...wireless connection to workstation 2

Having only today set up the wireless, one of the staff came to use the internet, and discovered a site that's not working ... www.care2.com. When trying to access this site on the wireless workstation, Firefox responds with a "connection refused" alert. I've not been able to find any other site that results in this error.

However, on the wired workstation, firefox can access that same address without error.

I have no idea what it is about the care2 website that's different, and so I can't really identify the problem. It's probably safe to say though that if there's a problem brining up one website, then theres a problem brining up other websites somewhere.

I have no idea where to start looking for this issue, and so I'm hoping someone here either knows what the problem is, can find out, or can guide me through it? (I'm very puzzled! lol).

A:Connection refused on wireless

That happens often to me. Don't pay any attention to it ... It usually goes away after a while. I guarantee you'll be able to access that site if not by tomorrow, then sometime soon. If it doesn't though, I don't really have any advice though. o_o

A:Firefox: Connection refused.

Hello,

Take a look here.

The problem was found to be having Norton Antivirus loaded while trying to set Firefox permissions, etc.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=155457

Also, here's the specialized help forum for Firefox.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38

Luckily, I haven't had this problem with Firefox, or any othe problem, but I don't use Norton. Hope your problem is sorted very soon.

Someone else may have other ideas to help you.

Bye,
Penny.

I recently installed windows 7 for a friend and they were using what easily appeared to be a older Belkin USB wireless adapter to connect to their router. They can get a connection but now they are complaining of a bouncing connection and sometimes a total connection performance slow down. They complain of it taking sometimes up to 30 mins to receive emails in outlook. I Firstly suspect the network adapter is plainly having either driver issues or simply its such an older device its having comparability performance issues with windows 7. Any other idea that might resolve this? Thanks!

A:Solved: Bouncing Connection and Performance Slows Opinions please!

Is it just that laptop or adapter or maybe the router? I would try using the adapter on a different computer and if it still gets a bouncing signal, you could narrow it down to it being the router and/or adapter problem.
