typing delay/skip, screen flashes (windows 10) problems

Q: typing delay/skip, screen flashes (windows 10) problems

I'm so new to this, and have no idea how to fix the typing delay/skip problem after I updated to windows 10. I have scanned my computer and there was no spyware/malware/virus detected that would result in this problem.

Is there any help out there? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have an Acer ES1 laptop where the screen flashes on every single keystroke you make on the keyboard.  Doesn't matter what application, every single key you press the screen flashes.  White flips to black and black flips to white on pretty much all app's. We've updated display drivers, installed all updates that are available through ACER.  Uninstalled a bunch of things that were included with the laptop.  Tried disabling various things in the settings to see if they were affecting it.   Nothing has worked and I'm not sure what else to try.  Anything else people can think of?

My screen sort of "flashes" and stops my typing and everything freezes for a half a sec. This is quite annoying. It happens every 5- 15 secs when outlook is open.

Here is a little background on the issue.

So my external HD was getting full and it had all of these old backups on it, I went to delete some and then outlook was not working properly. I 1st wasn't able to even open outlook, but then it prompted me to select some files (I really don't know what I did here) and then it opened. When it opened all of my sub folders were gone and all of my emails that are older than 2 weeks are gone as well.

I thought that the external HD was just for backups, I had no idea that it was used for outlook as well. The files that were deleted were labeled "Back up set" so I thought that it was just an old back up. The file was around 45 gb, there were 2 other back up sets that totaled about 300 gb, I thought that I would be safe deleting the smaller one and go from there but I was not.

I use file scavenger to recover the files, but I don't know what I am doing with these files. The files that I need are not all in 1 convient folder labeled "Back up Set".

I had tons of info that was lost and I was hoping that someone here would be able to help me get this back together. I would just hate to have just lost all of that info...
I tried opening outlook and went to file, then open, then selected one of the recovered pst files and it said ... Read more

Check task manager to see what % your CPU is running. You may have some malware or failty software that is occupying almost all the CPU time.

Hi all.

I come now with a new problem. I pretended for some time I did not care, but that is now making me pull the hair from my head.

I installed something (which I did not pay attention to at that time and I don't remember what it was) and too many other programs after that (programs I constantly use, and therefore I don't want to get rid of). If I roll back my computer to an earlier time to dismiss this problem, I would be uninstalling all those valuable programs I am talking about.

Since the first installation, when I select in excel (using the mouse), when I am typing in Word, Internet or whatever other program, things stop working. There is a delay in response. I type, but I don't see what is just typed on the screen, because the computer freezes undexpectedly, and then it comes with the whole thing at once. In the meantime, I could have made a mistake in typing, but because I couldn't see it right away on the screen, I cannot be sure if I made it, and have to wait until the computer 'defreezes' back and keeps working along.
The delay doesn't last too long, but it's frequent and recurrent. So it's always there. It is a pain in the neck, and I am being very decent to say it.

It is not the Ram, because I have plenty of it. It is not the speed of the chip, because my computer is not old. It is not a wrong installation of the programs I installed because everything works fine at the end. It is just that freaking delay that re... Read more

Title I wanted to use: Windows XP SP3: Slow Startup / Boot: Black Screen Delay & Delay after logging in

For some reason I can't preview my post when I use this title: I have tried removing all the punctuation, including the &, which doesn't work and have tried other titles with the same character length, which does work.

Problem Begins Here:

When I turn on or restart my computer, the boot up time from the time I press the power button to the time the final icon on my desktop loads is slow. I am not too concerned about the time after my desktop is shown since I have several items to run at startup.

The two areas of concern are:

1) After the XP logo is shown, my screen goes black. This lasts for about 17 to 19 seconds. I don't know when this started as I rarely restart my computer. The problem is worse if I startup in Safe Mode. It's about 1 minute and 10 seconds before I see anything on the screen, and another 40 seconds before something else is shown on screen. Note: In order to not to have to waste time pressing F8 and choosing Safe Mode, I enter safe mode by specifying so in msconfig. The options I chose were /SAFEBOOT and Minimal.

2) After I login, there is a delay of about 30 to 45 seconds before the desktop is shown. Windows stays at the login confirmation screen during that time. This I feel has happened recently.

Boot Time Results tested using a stopwatch:

Normal Boot (i.e. Not Safe Mode):
Time shown next to event is for when ... Read more

Wanted to find out if others have run into this problem. I have a lap top with Vista running. It's been about a year since I purchased a new Dell and when I type, randomly, letters are skipped while on-line. I use IE to browse. This problem doesn't exist in Word or Excel applications.

A:When typing, letters skip only on-line

Next time that it happens press the insert key, once. It is located to the right of backspace.

If that does not work try the next suggestiion

Assuming that you like IE, why not just experiment with FF or Chrome. You do not have to keep them. Just to find out where the problem really is located?

Hello everyone ! I have a slight problem with my wifes typing on web pages and that seems to be the only place it takes place does not happen in word or any other software installed just the world wide web. she is using IE 8 due to the fact she will not let me upgrade here system from XP so anyway whenever she starts hammering away over there in he corner the text input on the web page does not keep up with her input on the key board. She has to stop for 2 to 4 seconds and wait for her typing to appear on the screen . Have not had the chance to disable all add ons yet as she always seems to be there when I have a chance to work on her system. I have though run several virus scans and malware scans and so forth and so on but nothing really showing up to amount to anything. Everything goes in fine in word and whatever else she uses just seems to be the web . I hope I have been clear enough to explain the situation so if more info is needed I will do my best to offer and continue to research on.

This happens quite often and usually a reboot fixes the problem but I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Once my laptop has been running for a while (day or two) I will notice that when I am pounding away at the keyboard typing there will be a delay until the characters actually show up. Sometimes I am 8-10 characters ahead of what is being displayed on the screen. It makes it real hard to understand if I have typed the correct letter/characters sometimes. If I go to tap the Backspace key a few times to delete it's delayed as well.

When I reboot the problem is gone. Very strange problem and I am sure it's a bug or something that causes a memory leak of some sort somewhere. Call me crazy... LOL!

Anybody else experience this?

I'm curious as to whether yer keyboard is a USB one. Could be the USB port is underpowered or something. You could try plugging your keyboard into another port (if it is USB). Do not plug it into a USB hub. Try plugging it directly into one of the rear ports on your computer.

No, but i can probably tell you that the problem is the 1.60GHz processor. You will probably need atleast 1.80GHz to 2.00GHz clock speed.

I am a Wikpedia editor and about a year and a half ago I encountered a problem where when I type something in the edit box, it would take a second before the words actually appeared on the screen. This only happens in wikpedia. So I scanned with Malwarebytes and got a malware and quarantined it. After that the issue was gone. About a week ago the problem came back. But I don't know if it's malware again, because Malwarebytes and Avast couldn't catch it. Please help me get rid of this annoying problem.

This lag doesnt happen always but once it starts, i usually have to restart my pc to get it to stop. Is there something wrong with the intel driver? or what i have no idea!!

When I type the cursor times out at about 5 sec intervals so I can't type (like ths its so annoying, noticmissing letters due to timeuts!e) and at the same time the framing/background by the hotbar flashes bright and back to dark, like when you click on something. I can no longer scroll us the wheel on my mouse. Also when I highlight words to delete them I have to do it twice. Have checked my keyboard and mouse drivers and status, both utd and computer says functioning well. Ran virus check, none detected. Please help, so very frustrating!!!!!

Hello there, this problem is not extremely important, so by all means, if someone else needs to be helped first, no problem.

When I open firefox 3 or the IE Explorer, and I procede to type in the search bar of any search engine or just the address bar there is a slight delay in when I type to when the typed shows up on the screen. Just wanted to know if there is any remedy to this situation.

Steps I have taken....

1. I have just rebounded from a devistating virus attack. Thanks to your forums and Simon I was able to get things cleaned up.

2. I am using clamwin as anti virus

3. I am always scanning my pc for malwar via spybot, ad aware and other such programs as well.

If you need a greater detail for what I have done in reguards to the virus there is probably a way you can link to my other posts in the other forum.

Let me know, and thanks again in advance.

I just got this HP Pavilion x360 (the convertible laptop/tablet) last week, and I've been having troubles with the keyboard. On certain websites, such as this one, there is no typing delay. However, on Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Word Online, the characters I'm typing DO NOT appear on the screen at the same time that I'm typing them. It either freezes for a second and then quickly inputs all of what I've typed, or it just takes a few seconds longer for each key I press to show up on the screen. I've checeked to make sure Filterkeys isn't enabled and that no extensions are running in the browser. This happens in both Microsoft Edge and Chrome. P.S. when I was registering for an HP support account, I just realized that the @ key and the " are switched. So shift+2 gives me an ", and shift+" gives me an @ sign. Please help! I really like the computer other than this horrible typing lag.

My 8.1 machine goes through 2 screens before the desktop loads. I have Classic Shell installed and have tried to delete these first 2 screens through the settings in Classic Shell and the control panel. They are still there.

What I am talking about is the first splash screen that appears at startup. It is a big colorful rainbow kind of graphic, with the date in big letters. You have to right click to get it to go away, and then it loads a screen that requires entering the password to proceed.

I don't want either of these. I want to go right to the desktop. I don't need a password.

Any help for this problem? Thanks.

First, under System Configuration/Boot, I checked "No GUI boot"
Then I changed the user name/password setting:
a. Press ?Windows Key + R?.
b. Type ?netplwiz?.
c. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.
d. User Account pop windows will appear.
e. Uncheck the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box, and click/tap on OK.

When I restart or turn on my lap top after it's been off for a while it will only give me my background picture. No icons, no start menu at the bottom, nothing. Has anyone else had this problem. And if so, how might I get yahoo mail to accept letters typed as I type them?

My computer takes forever to log on. When I get to the welcome screen, it flashes back and forth but never logs in. I had to do a system restore but Windows said the restore didn't complete properly. I ran Norton AV scan and found nothing. I ran Malwarebytes and found 49 issues. Deleted them all but still having problems. Please help.

Hi everyone,

I'm having a weird issue since i installed windows 10, After installing, drivers, apps, etc., suddenly after using the PC for a few days, after startup apps finish loading and everything, when i try to open any application (browser, explorer, something with uac prompt, anything..) The screen flashes and turns off for a second and then everything come back to normal, This is my 2nd fresh installation for windows 10, I thought there could be something wrong with the drivers, i double checked them, I even replaced all of the apps that i used to have! , spent lots of time to look for alternatives (Avira instead of Kaspersky, 7zip instead of WinRAR, etc.), It may seems like a simple problem, But it's really frustrating for me, I never had this issue with windows 8.1, I hope that someone would help me with that .

Welcome to Ten-Forums !
How about Graphics Card drivers, updated also ? Sound like an issue there with Graphics card or drivers, although screen flicker was an old issue at first when Windows 10 came out but i believe most were solved.

What are the specs of the PC?
How is the monitor hooked up(if it's not a laptop, tablet etc) DVI, VGA, HDMI?
Are all the latest drivers installed yet?

Hi Everyone,

I am using a Windows 8 based UltraBook, and find that whenever I click on the 'Windows Explorer' icon (little folder icon) that Windows Explorer crashes. Basically I click on the icon, the screen flashes for about 1 second to the background colour (of the tiles menu), taskbar icons disappear, and then Windows recovers returning me to the normal desktop.

If anybody else has experienced this phenomenon can you please respond?

Kind Regards,

Hi ljshyman,Got mine to work - try the below:1. Go to task mgr (Ctr+Alt+Del) then follow the below that was posted by Nualama in another forum: "Run new task" ... type msconfig (yes it is hard to type as screen blinks, but it can be done) ... In the new box that opens (it may be behind the task manager box) go to Service Tab .... Scroll until you find 2 tasks that need to be stopped ... (1) Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel Support .... (2) Windows Error Report Service.... Disable these by unchecking .... Click Apply ... Click OK ... If you are prompted to restart, then restart computer  Hope this works for you too. Suresh

I was wondering if anyone could help. Windows won't load at all, I just get a bsod flash up. Same thing happens with safe mode. For some reason I can't even system restore or format/reinstall windows from my cd. (after I click install nothing happens just sits at the loading screen)

Any suggestions?

This BSOD will not let you to boot to the desktop, in either mode.

The most typical causes of a stop 0xED is a failing HDD or dome mismatch boot records. If the second one is the issue, then a clean install should be possible, which is not as you said.

Test the HDD using Seatools for DOS. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use ...

Take both the short test and the long test. Let us know the results.

Hi MeroYasso, To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums. You could do a system restore. It would reset the update that has caused issues.Thanks.

Whenever I switch windows / tasks, the screen always flases once, then goes back to normal. I've tried changing the hertz refresh rate, and checked to see if everythings plugged in. This is really annoying me. Is there any known fix?

A:Screen flashes every time i switch windows / tasks

@MeowPilot See the following - issue may be an application or out-dated driver:Troubleshoot screen flickering in Windows 10 On the more mundane side (and after you have checked / updated your applications / drivers), try setting the Background to something bland - one screen only, no "slideshow". Windows key > Settings  > Personalization > Background   Screen may also flash if you are initiating (starting) a task / application for which you need administrative permission.  You can reduce the UAC settings to remove this "sreen flash" when starting these types of programs.    When you see a Post that helps, inspires, provides fresh insight,or teaches you something new, click the Thumbs Up on that Post.Fixed / Answered? The fan is whirring, it sounds like it reeeeally wants to start, but it just keeps flashing the hp logo screen, then a black screen with the cursor at the top left, and then complete black (screen off) This cycle repeats endlessly, and if I hit "ESC" to trigger the Startup Menu at the right time I get a few options, but the F-11 System Recovery doesn't work - just throws me back into the flashing screen cycle! If you can help me you will be my hero. If you can't help thank you for trying.  I don't know to function without my baby err computer..........

This is driving me crazy.

Right after I boot my laptop, the screen flashes randomly.

Also something is stealing focus from what I am working on to something else.

Then it likes to suddenly go to a grey screen. I have to manually reboot.

If that is not enough, it like to just reboot.

Scanned with my AVG and Kaspersky, nothing found. Tried TrendMicro House Call, nothing. Dr. Web, nothing.

All drivers are up to date.

I have run it in the safe mode for about an hour with no problems. No new software installed recently. I went to restore and it was only dated from the previous day, so no help there.

I would prefer not to Nuke and pave, but if that what I need to do, I can.

Any thoughts, theories, explosives you can recommend for this?

I await with enlarging piles of hair as I pull it out.

A:Windows screen flashes, random grey screen & random black screen

Welcome to SF!

This sounds like a case of overheating, Download Speccy and upload a Screenshot
when in normal use (not Safe-Mode).

This problem just started yesterday (or at least that's when I noticed it), and I didn't make any changes on my computer.

Audio CD's skip heavily (i.e. every second or two) in Windows Media Player, but play fine in WinAmp.

DVD's put in the same drive skip in every player I've tried.

Any ideas what's going on here?

A:[SOLVED] CDs skip in Win Media Player, DVDs skip everywhere

Hi and welcome,
The first thing I would try would be to swap out the dvd drive with another one if you can. That way we can rule out hardware issues.
