I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Have Windows 7 RTM installed on my laptop and was working great with extending to my monitor. I took my laptop home and hooked it up to my tv and it was fine. Now when I bring it back to work I cannot get the monitor to work. Only the display on the laptop is working. Windows can detect the monitor, but I try to enable the monitor and when I select Apply I get an error message "Unable to save display settings". I am a local administrator on the laptop. How can I extend to my monitor! Thanks

A:Unable to save display settings and Multiple Monitors

Hi,Error message " Unable to save display settings" mainly indicates that you try to extend or duplicate the desktop to the two external monitors in addition to the laptop screen. Generally, laptop supports only two displays at one time due to hardware limitation. I suspect that the issue occurs because the laptop remembers both configuration for your extended monitor and TV. To extend your monitor, you need to clear the multiple configuration for your laptop and then extend your display by changing your display settings. To do this, please take the following steps:Step 1. Delete registry key.==================1)Press Win + R to open a run box.2)In the Run box, type regedit, and then click OK.3)Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MobilePC\TMM
4)Right-click the subkey that you located in step 2. Then, click Delete.5)When you are prompted to confirm the delete operation, click Yes.6)On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.7)Log off the computer. Then, log on to the computer.Step 2. Extend your display by changing display settings.====================================1)Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution. 2)Click the drop-down list next to Multiple displays, click Extend these displays, and then click OK.References:KB 973782Best RegardsDale Qiao

I am running Windows 7 RC Build 7100 in VMWare 6.5. The host OS is Vista x64 Home Premium running on a Dell Studio 1535. I have a Dell monitor attached as a secondary monitor, and I am attempting to share the desktop across both monitors. While I can do that, Windows 7 insists on using the external monitor as the primary monitor, and if I attempt to change the main display to the laptop monitor I am greeted with 'Unable to save display settings.' when I attempt to save. This dialog is shown twice. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a workaround?

A:Unable to change primary display when using dual monitors

Same here! Any solution? Works fine, btw my monitor is the secundary and my tv is the primary. Microsoft can't make a feature to change the ID's of the monitors? so simple!

Dell Optiplex 7050 Connects with three monitors. Those monitors are the same model (Dell 19 inches).
Dell Optiplex 7050 has three ports (VGA, Displayport, HDMI) for connecting monitors.
Monitor 1 :  VGA - VGA
Monitor 2 : Displayport - Displayport
Monitor 3 : VGA - VGA - VGA to HDMI
Three monitors are working fine with extended mode.
But when I tried to duplicate two of monitors, it will pop up unable save display settings message.
Does anyone know why and how to fix this issue? Thank you!

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to have a dual monitors on the HP ProDesk 400 G2.5 using both the VGA and DisplayPort at the same time. Will this allow me to extend the display to both monitors? If not, what will I need to purchase to gain this capability? Thanks,John

A:Using VGA in conjunction with DisplayPort for dual monitors ...

The VGA port and Display Port perform the same function just in different ways.  VGA is analog and Display Port is digital.  Unfortunately, it's not going to work the way you think.  You will be looking at the same information on two different monitors without the ability to drag and drop from one to the other.  In order to have a true dual monitor experience, you would need to purchase an inexpensive video card like the VisionTek Radeon PCI card which is specifically designed for this functionality.  This is due to the fact that the dual monitor ability has to be configured via the software that comes with the stand alone card. I hope this helps.

Greetings everyone!

This is my very first post and I come with a question. I am looking into purchasing a refurb Dell 990 SFF for basic home usage (spreadsheets, word processing, internet...no gaming or graphic/audio intensive use). The onboard graphics and Displayport is an integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 with a Displayport 1.1a output. I currently have a monitor with Displayport in but no Displayport out so I can daisy-chain. What is the best strategy for connecting second monitor? Is the native DP 1.1a out splittable for extended desktop? Do I need to buy a DP splitter external peripheral? I should note the additional output options include an old VGA out; all USBs are 2.o. Thanks in advance.

Hello Tech Support Guys, I have this problem for a while now and I need your assistance.
I have a GTX1060 6gb and anything I try to plug in my 3 displayports flickers, 'goes blackscreen' and shows a lot of tearing. It happens in and out of games. It doesn't happen on the DVI or the HDMI ports.

I do have a monitor that supports both HDMI and displayport, but since I use a VR headset, having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable to use VR is annoying (Oculus CV1 uses HDMI). Also, freesync would be great.

My progress so far:
**I have noticed that, the lower the resolution on the monitor (and the refresh rate), the better the displayport performs. "Great" at 1024 x 768 resolution. It's a usefull trick to use while playing in VR.
**already tried two displayport cables and two displayport to hdmi adapters.
**already tried using DDU to reinstall my nvidia drivers

Anyone have any idea of what is happening?
Are my 3 displayports damaged?
Should I keep using the displayport or is it a risk for my monitor?

I know that this is a year old, but I have a problem with my monitors. I have 2 DVI monitors and 2 DisplayPort monitors. For some reason, Control Panel -> Screen Resolution shows it as 2, 3, 1, 4, but when I click on Identify, they show up as 1, 3, 2, 4. The DisplayPort monitors have the wrong enumeration numbers compared to the screen resolution page. This also causes issues on my Virtual Box as Virtual Screen 1 shows up as Host Screen 1 and Virtual Screen 2 shows up as Host Screen 3. This related to 2 and 3 respectively as per the Screen Resolution page.

What's going on here and how do I fix this mess?

Thanks,

Ok...I am having problems with DisplayPort. My home HP ProDesk 600 G1 DM w/ 12Gb RAM running Windows 7 64bit and (Intel HD Graphics 4600) has two HP LA2306x monitors. The HP monitors are connected via two DisplayPorts

Problem 1: But when I power off the monitors but leave the computer running, Windows 7 losses all my desktop settings. All my icons and open windows default over to the primary screen. I have been dealing with this for two years now...when I power them back on I must move all my windows around again. Its very annoying.

I have read various threads on how to resolve this but none of them work for me.

A) I can't change the EDID setting for my Intel 4600 graphics card (if I can, I can't figure out where)
B) I have gone into the monitor menu settings and disabled the DDC/CI Support on both monitors
C) I have changed the computers power mgmt settings to NOT sleep, hibernate or anything of the sort

Problem 2:
The above really drives me nuts. However, now a new issue has occurred and the driving me nuts has turned into driving me mad. I have an external hard drive connected to this computer, I am running Samsung's SmartView so my TV can access all the movies/tv shows on that hard drive. When I power off monitors, my TV can no longer see/access the SmartView app and/or the external hard drive.

So if I am downstairs and want to stream a movie from this external hard drive, I must go back up stairs and power on the monitors.

I know I am not... Read more

Having received a brand-new P51 directly from Lenovo, i am facing major issues attaching external monitors.Win10 image from factory, all windows updates, all driver updates as recommended by Lenovo companion. Manually reinstalled graphics drivers, driver update using windows does not detect newer ones. Latest BIOS (1.15). Upon suggestion of lenovo changed BIOS mode from hyprid to discrete.I have these two issues from day 1:When i attach a monitor using the right hand side mini displayport, it is not recognized. Monitor stays in stand-by, no sound played, nothing happens. Inserting the same cable into the port of a W540 (Win 8.1) monitor immediately wakes up and can be used up to its full resolution (3440x1440).inserting laptop into ultradock (230W) it only recognizes one attached monitor. BIOS password entry lock was not shown on external monitor when lid was closed, needed to enter "blind" and press enter, only upon windows boot the monitor (Lenovo 27") was recognized. i think after changing to discrete mode now it showed the lock symbol when starting with closed lid. but still no second monitor is recognized. This is the first thinkpad in my history where such basic things do not work at all.I noticed once i had Intel and Nvidia context menu items when presing right mouse botton on desktop screen, now i only have "Nvidia Control Panel" and "nView Desktop Manager" shown. I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 laptop with a E-Port Plus II port replicator connected to two external monitors using DisplayPort which will not output to multiple monitors.
I have another Dell model and when placed on the port replicator with two external monitors connected, booting into BIOS/UEFI the screen is cloned onto each monitor. However, when doing the same with a brand new Dell Latitude E7450 only one screen is active - the other is off. Within Windows itself, I can only have 1 monitor connected to the port replicator. If I undock, I can run 3 monitors independently indicating an issue with the dock rather than a hardware limitation with the laptop itself.
I believe the above tests eliminates the OS or driver issue and highlights a compatibility issue between the new Dell Latitude E7450 laptop and E-Port Plus II port replicator. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with the same results. I have also updated both the graphics drivers (Version 10.18.14.4170, A16) and the BIOS (Version A04) to the latest releases. I have also tried using DVI cables as well as swapping out the port replicators. Nothing works. In Windows 8.1 itself, it actually shows as two monitors active, but one is not on. If I swap out the monitors to a different brand, I get the same result.
Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting I need to change? Is there a newer port replicator or update I need?

I just bought a used graphics card (Radeon HD 6870) because it has mini displayports for the sole purpose of connecting to my Apple Cinema Display (LED version).

I've tried inserting the mdp that comes out of the ACD into the graphics card and nothing happens. At all.

The graphics card itself works just fine when I use the DVI to my dell.

I'm not sure if it's the ACD not being compatible or the ports being inactive/dead. I'm not sure how to test for the latter since I don't have any other mdp devices.

I'm really stumped. I want to clear up my desk and just use my ACD alone.

This model is with Xeon CPU, Quadro P2000 graphics card and 1080 screen. The model of the monitor is Dell U2713HM.  When I connect my P52 to this dell monitor via a miniDP to Displayport cable, the monitor model is recognized in "Nvidia control panel" and "Display settings" of Windows, but in Display setting it shows "second display is not active". The screen remains black with a floating window: "no signal received".  Attempts so far: - In BIOS, I tried switching the graphics option from "hybrid" to "discrete", and set the start-up delay to 10 seconds. When I restart, the start-up Lenovo logo and the BIOS interface is displayed on the external Dell monitor. However, as the machine enters windows, the external display goes black (and so does the laptop display, until I unplug the cable).  - Also, I tried the miniDP to DP cable on other machines and the same screen. I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG) Laptop (ThinkPad) on ThinkPad Pro Dock.  I have a secondary display (connected with DisplayPort).  When the battery is charging, the secondary display works properly.  As soon as the battery is fully charged (100%), the secondary display disconnects and goes black (no signal detected).  The power is still on the the display.  The only way to get the secondary display to reconnect is to unplug the power supply from the dock, then plug it in again.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I have 3 Benq XL2720Z monitors for gaming. XL2720Z LED Gaming Monitor | BenQ 16:9 LED Gaming monitors

I would like to know if it's better to turn off all 3 monitors by pressing the power button on all the monitors when not in use for over 12 hours or just let my computer turn the display off which I currently have a way to do to it by pressing a certain key.

Personally I would prefer to just let my computer turn the display off since I only have to press 1 button on my keyboard rather than have to press 3 power buttons on the monitors which don't really work that well.

However my final choice goes down to which is better for the monitors themself. I don't want to end up damaging the monitors.

Anyone know which way is safer? I can't seem to find a clear answer.

Hi,
I got a UPS 1500 battery backup that has 1 plug that controls 3 others that makes the decision for me when the 1 plug is using no power or the machine is powered off

Prior I just used the button on the monitor seems more reliable than counting on a feature to work before windows even boots.

I have a Dell Laptop that I drop into a docking station for work. When i plug it in i can open it and I have two additional monitors plugged into the docking station; it gives me 3 working monitors that i can extend (all 3 independent).  For personal use i have a Yoga 710-14IKB Laptop (ideapad). I purchased a docking station (because this unit doesn't have any inputs) and it has a VGA and DVI input options. I plugged in the monitors to the inputs (one VGA the other DVI) on the docking station however computer only recognizes ONE other display. To clarify, BOTH "external" monitors DO work but they are duplicate and when i click to identify they do so both as #2. I can't get 3 monitors detected like i can on my Dell, I only get my laptop screen #1 and the duplicate "external" monitors BOTH identified as #2.  Is it possible that this laptop just can't do this?

How do you get a multi-monitor setup to show windows on both screens ? I'm using a setup with dual monitors, yet only one monitor shows the desktop, the other is blank. Only thing I see is the cursor and the BG color on the second monitor ?

A:One display on two monitors

What you are describing is normal. The desktop is on one monitor and you can open/drag most any app window into the 2nd monitor area.

Hi,

I am trying to use an extra monitor with my notebook with a separate monitor attached to it in order to have 2 displays. I am also setting the display settings as Extended Display.

I wish to run a game on the attached monitor and on the other hand browse the internet and chat on the notebook's display. For some reason I cant succeed in doing it.

Can someone give me some advise on how to do it please?

Thanks.

A:Dual display monitors

you can not do this. I have tried and found out it is not possible. You can try alt tabbing while in game but in the end it does not work well.

I've been looking around for something that will allow me to get one display on two monitors. I was able to do it easy in XP because of the Nvidia driver, but it will not work in 7. I have the Gigabyte GTX 280 video card. I am trying to find a third party software that will allow me to have the one display on the two monitors ... anyone know if anything like this exist?

Leave it to M$ not to have a way to configure the monitors with a horizontal span Thanks for reading my post.

A:One Display/Two Monitors/Win7?

Have a look at the link below extend your display is the one you need.
Work and play better with multiple monitors

I just installed a Radeon 7870 using 2 Asus 25" monitors and a Sharp 720p TV via HDMI. I have no problems with the Asus monitors but can't find a way to get the TV to display. The cord I'm using is known to work as I used it to view stuff from an iPad (25' hi speed).

Occassionally, if I reboot the computer, I can see most of the boot process on the TV but after Windows goes to the desktop, the screen goes blank. I believe the problem might be that the 2 Asus monitors are paired to display a single desktop across both monitors. I can't find a setting that allows me to set a single desktop across all.

My wife has 2 monitors but in 2 different locations so she need to see the same desktop. She has the Home edition, I have the Pro edition. Couldn't find anything via the Goog.

BTW, this card is sure silent! It replaced a PNY GeForce 250 GTA which made a huge racket.

A:Want to display same desktop on 3 monitors

The third monitor needs to be connected to the displayport connector, using a displayport cable or an active (might be able to get away with passive, but doubt it) displayport to DVI adapter. That is why you are only getting two of the three to work.

Hello
My name is Matthew. I have had for quite some time a dual monitor set up and have wanted to get a third for productivity reasons and such. At the moment I have 2 regular 23 inch displays. What I would like to get is another monitor but for it to be a 3D monitor.
This evening I have gone down to my local computer store and asked a few questions on my desired set up.
I told them that I know how to set up 3 monitors easily enough, but would throwing in a 3D monitor as the third cause a problem? The majority of the tech team down there told me that I would require a 3D graphics card along with the monitor to be able to make this happen.

In my eyes, for example... one of my games, Battlefield 3, has been patched for 3D capabilities. If this is the case then all you would need is a 3D monitor and a pair of glasses for the sterioscopic to become 3D? To me it all seems to be in the software.

Please enlighten me if I am incorrect on this. I only want to monitor for gaming in 3D, nothing else.
