Preferred Solution: What cable type do I need to connect this removed hdd to my usb 3 laptop so I can retrieve its data??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:What type of cable is best to connect the audio reciever to the pc?

As per my other post, if your receiver has a HDMI input, I would go with that. HDMI has a much higher bandwidth compared to other digital interfaces thus allowing higher resolution audio. Toslink, or sometimes called SPDIF (or optical) does have limited bandwidth compared to HDMI - 24bit 96khz max. If you do not play media higher than that then you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two. However one benefit with Toslink is that it is not electrically conductive therefore it will not pass any electrical noise from the source nor will it pick up RF interference. So if you get a loud hum, usually referred to as a ground loop, when HDMI is connected you may want to try a Toslink connection.

As for the quality of the cable used in both configs?? I would stick with name brands that have lots of positive reviews from actual users and not just professional reviewers. They don?t have to be expensive. Toslink is susceptible to breaking if bent too aggressively so keep this in mind should you be fishing the cable through a cabinet.

So my laptop's motherboard broke and unfortunately the only way to fix it at Best Buy is if I pay 700-800 dollars which is just not going to happen. In fact, I don't even need the actual laptop anymore; I just need one very important document from the HDD. (Which I'm sure still functions fine). I trawled around the internet for guides on getting data from a working HDD written in "English" but the only thing I could find was a reference to something called a "hard drive caddy."

I can't seem to find much about this "caddy" except that it holds the HDD in place, and I couldn't find any mention of if I could connect it to another working computer via USB. Can these caddies be purchased at a local Best Buy? Because this is the first time I've ever heard of one. And is there any other way to get this one document from the HDD? It is very important to me...

Thanks,
~Greg

Hi All,
I have Laptop Toshiba Satellite L775, windows 7. I used cable modem Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 and it was working fine. Then I changed my ISP to Century Link and used their DSL modem and still everything worked just fine. Now I moved to another city and used same cable modem (SBG6580) and connected my business PC thru ethernet and it is working fine. The problem is with my laptop which I tried to connect wirelessly but coudn't so I tried to connect it thru ethernet but it does not even recognizes it. Funny thing is my hard wired computer has picked up same network name thru modem and is working fine both thru ethernet and wifi (this computer I am using first time with this modem).
My laptop find available networks and when I select my network with password, some time it says connected with limited access and some time "windows was unable to connect" message. I tried most of the solutions by calling Suddenlink and Motorola but no luck. I am wordering if it has to do anything with centurylink's DSL modem being used on this laptop before and somehow blocking cable modem?
Any help?

Hello, I've been struggling with getting a simple InfoPath 2007 form to work with a test MS Access 2007 database. I feel the best way to explain what I am doing is by giving you an example.

Background of scenario:

Lets say I am a distributor of gas cylinders. I have 100 different gas cylinders that I fill and send to customers. When they are done with the gas, they return the cylinders and I fill them back up. Each cylinder has specific data related to each: manufacturer, serial #, specific cylinder ID, and material of construction (carbon steel, stainless steel, etc). I have this data in my MS Access database, in an individual table called "CYLINDER_DATA". Every time I refill a cylinder, I need to record the date and measure the pressure and temperature (among other things) of the gas in the cylinder. This data (along with the specific "CYLINDER_DATA" at this date of measurement) must be added as a new record in a different table called "CYLINDER_MEASUREMENTS" in the same database.

What I would like to do:

So, I want to create an InfoPath form for operators to use whenever they need to perform measurements on a newly filled cylinder. So, I created an InfoPath form, that starts with a drop-down list box control that is populated with the 100 different cylinder IDs. A user would choose one of the "cylinder IDs" from the drop down list and then click "retrieve data". This would then populate the fields directly below:... Read more

We have 2 laptops. Both can connect via wireless fine, but only one can connect using the Ethernet cable. When plugged into the laptop which doesn't work I get the computer with a yellow "exclamation mark" triangle, which says no internet access. The working laptop is using Vista and mine, the none working, uses Windows 7.

I'd be happy to use Skype or TV to sort out the problem.

This sounds like a driver issue. Can you give me the full name of your laptop so I might direct you where to find the right driver? If you are able to do this on your own, feel free.

It is a LAN driver you would be looking for, and not the wireless LAN.

I'm trying to get my internet to work on my laptop, since I can't pick up Wireless signals, even though they show up, for some odd reason.

I disconnected my ethernet cable from my computer and put it in the laptop and it won't connect. I believe I have a broadband connection. my computer is connected to a a SB4100 Cable Modem Surfboard (i don't know much about networking)

Is there any way possible that I could get my internet working, using JUST the ethernet cable?

A:Laptop WONT connect with cable

First off, you need to cycle power on the modem whenever you change the attached device, that's probably one issue.

After cycling power and rebooting the laptop, with the cable connected, please post this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

A:What kind of cable do I use to connect the vga of my laptop to the rgb of my tv set

According to the specs in your link, the TV does not have RGB inputs. It has "Component Video (YPbPr)". Y, Pb, Pr is very different from R, G, B video. You would need some type of video converter box with active electronics and not some kind of simple cable, with different connectors on each end.

Hi, all

I really hope someone can help me with this before my head implodes. I've had dial-up for years but AOL said they could give me a broadband-quality internet service with a Speedtouch wireless router and an ethernet cable. They sent the equipment through, I set it up on one laptop at home and it worked fine - miraculous, in fact, really fast. So then I tried to set it up on my partner's laptop. Ran the installation software, and it got to the point where you connect the laptop (an Advent) to the router, and it said it couldn't connect. The ethernet cable was securely plugged in at both ends but no ethernet light was displaying on the router. I called AOL and they went through everything - the laptop has an ethernet card and the [netware??? - sorry, I really am a total beginner] seemed OK, ie didn't have any little crosses or question marks beside it when we looked at in in "systems information". So the AOL guy said I might need a new ethernet card. But I don't see how that's the problem, if there's already one in there and it seems to be functional!

I'll probably go try to buy an ethernet card but this has already cost me quite a bit (mostly in phone calls to AOL) and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, or can confirm that buying the new card is my best option.

I really appreciate any help you can give

It recognizes that its there, but it won't give me any internet use. I've tried restarting the modem and everthing, but that doesn't do anything toward fixing it.

It just states that it has an invalid IP or something of that sort.

My question is if I need to enter a new network or what?

Make and model of modem and name of ISP(cable/dsl) ?
Then, look at network adapters in device manager:
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Help me please! First of all, I'm not very good with computers and all of the terminology. I have Virgin Media connected and recently bought a Virgin Media Netgear Router - WGR614. I have tried and tried to connect this and configure the router to my laptop but it just won't work! I have used the Netgear website instructions and the Virgin Media Wireless set up CD but still no luck. It did come up on my list of available network connections at one stage but could not 'acquire the network address'. Now I can't even get it up on my available network list.

I have reset the router many times, disconnected and connected everything. I'm thinking maybe I have to do something else on my pc to allow the wireless connection? I have used wifi before on this pc and have had no problems at all.

Virgin Media will not help at all since I already have an internet connection so I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

A:Can't connect my Netgear cable router to my laptop

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

my 3 year old Dell Studio laptop connects fine via wireless to home router and internet; but I cannot connect through the ethernet cable. I've done the troubleshooting; disabled/enabled the network adapter; updated the drivers. I'm using an ethernet cable which normally connects an XP, so I know the cable's fine.
Device Manager says the Realtek PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller is working properly. I found the Receive Side Scaling value Enabled, so I Disabled that. Shut off radio for wireless Centrino adapter. Disabled wireless adapter too. Restarted not only the laptop; but also did a shutdown then restart of the entire FIOS with Asus Access Point home network, with all devices shut down. Checked BIOS setting, didn't see any setting Disabled that appeared like the ethernet controller.
Can't do system restore; I did a Repair installation of windows 7 Home Premium last week...but even before then, the System Restore failed every time. I've never been successful at getting a system restore to work on any XP or 7 pc I've tried it on, even though it's enabled and purports to work.
The laptop had been connected primarily, maybe even exclusively, via the wireless, for 3 years...so I"m not even sure the ethernet has ever been connected before.
I'd hate to buy a new ethernet controller card if i don't have to, only to have the problem be software...
Any ideas? thanks!

Hello,

I am having problem connecting my laptop to the internet via ethernet cable.

I am typing this from a Mac desktop that is on the same connection - no router in use, just a cable modem.

I have tried 3 different laptops plugging in to the ethernet cable directly to the modem and all say the same thing - limited to no connectivity for the XP machines, and "Local access only" for the Vista machine.

It recognizes the ethernet cable, and it searches for connectivity but does not succeed.

What makes this weird is that the connection itself is live as evidenced by my ability to type on this desktop.

Please help!!

A missing Ethernet driver will prevent the wired connection from working.
You can probably use your wireless connection to visit the support section of the the Sony web site and download the missing driver(s) and get instructions on how to install the downloaded driver.

It also would not allow me to copy ANY files to a pen drive or external hard drive device sooooooo.....I began a Windows XP SP2 installation fix in hopes that it would temp fix it so I could pull my data off and do a clean format. The Install stops and hangs with approximately 39 minutes left until setup is complete. I have restarted my computer uncountable times and it still hangs at 39 minutes left. I do not see an option to quit the install. I tried removing the drive and putting it in an external enclosure to retrieve the data but when I try to access my folder it says that access is denied. This is obviously due to the fact that I had a User Account password. I can access the Guest Account and my Kids Account since there are no password on them, but not mine. I reinstalled the hard drive into the original computer and it still hangs at 39 minutes. Is there any way to quit the WinXP SP2 install fix so I can go back into my damaged user account and turn off my password so I can put the drive into an external enclosure and pull the data to my other computer? I would appreciate any help as I have digital photos a video files of the family that I can't replace!!!!! Please help!!!!!!

Greetings!

I have an internet connection which is distributed through a wireless router. I use my laptop's (which also has a LAN adapter) WiFi to connect to that router. I have a PC too which only has LAN adapter but not the Wireless adapter.

Unfortunately I cannot wire my place as the router is in my housemate's room. I have network cables though to connect my PC and my laptop. Can I access Internet on my PC using connection between my laptop and PC and my laptop being connected to the Internet via WiFi?

I have DHCP enabled on my WiFi laptop. I am not sure what do I need to do and if I need to give static IP's to all the computers?

Thanks,
AJ
PS - I can access the router settings and I can change those settings unless it hampers my other house-mates to use the Internet.

Hello. I had a computer in which I sometime ago, put a new motherboard and athlon processor in. Just recently, it started acting strange. My control panel would not act right. The Add/Remove Programs would not work, nor would the System icon work. It would suddenly lock up on me. I tried to reinstall Windows XP, but it had a spool error and stopped. Anyway, I bought a new computer with 40 gig hard drive in it and preloaded with Windows XP. (I had Windows XP in the old computer, too.) Is there anyway I can retrieve my data from my old hard drive? I have hundreds of digital photos on it, plus some other data I would hate to lose. I had CD's for all my programs on it. Anybody got any method to retrieve the data?

A:How do I retrieve data from harddrive?

You can hook up the drive as a slave and get your info if the drive is still good.

I have formatted my Hard Drive and need to get some of the data back. HOw can i do this??

A:Retrieve Data from formatted HD

There are data recovery solutions such as http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/. For more search for "data recovery". I'm skeptical how useful they will be for a formatted hard drive though. It can be done. I just have my doubts about consumer data recovery solutions.

I have accidently deleted 25 gigs of music and would like to restore it.
I have downloaded Restoration version 2.5.14 (?)
All the data is there, however I can only restore one file at a time is there something else I can use to restore large file chunks rather than one at a time?
Hopefully windows is not currently writing over the info. I have disabled programs that might do this.

A:Need to Retrieve Deleted Data!!

No, I have never seen a program that does more than one at a time.

And using the PC at all may over write deleted files. I would install the drive into another PC.

I have a compaq presario. My computer crashed and I was given the option to backup my data before I did a complete system restore.

I completed the backup, and it put the files on my CD rom.. the problem is that these files have an fbw extension and I can't retrieve the data. It seems like this is a big problem with a lot of HP users. when I insert the disk, it acts as if it is reading it, but nothing happens and it freezes.

Any help retrieving these backed up files? thanks

A:Can't retrieve backed up data

You have to go back in to the HP backup software, and restore back up CD files from there, with the CD in the drive

Hi all

So I had 6 windows updates yesterday on my PC and since then it has been stuck in a boot loop. Tried safe mode, last known good configuration but still no joy. I have also just tried a linux boot disc called Knoppix but it just brings up media error (bad sector) messages for a few minutes and then halts.

I'm happy if I can just get My Documents off the hard drive. I have tried XP recovery console but it wont allow me to go into the 'Documents and Settings' folder - says access denied. Yet I can get into other folders? Besides this even if I did get in I have no other drive to copy my documents to. My floppy drive doesn't work. I have 2 other hdd's in, one on IDE and one on RAID.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of copying files from 'My Documents' on my C: drive to a USB stick, or another one of my hdd's, from DOS without using a floppy drive!

Cheers
Mark

A:Need to retrieve data from C: drive

If you have another computer or any friends who have computers you could try installing your hard drive in their computer and having them transfer your docs off your drive and onto their computer... If you have more than one hard drive you could try taking out the bad drive, installing an OS on one of the good drives and then reinstalling the bad drive to transfer the files over to one of the good drives.

I've searced far and wide for a possible answer to my question, but I have unfortunatly come up very short in something that can be done.

I recently updated my password on a gaming site, as well as updating some of my personal information. The problem is, I forgot my "secret question" answer...as I always just neglect to take those things seriously and usually just put in some random answer.

A couple days ago I thought i was hit with a keylogger (I run with 0 protection on IE or firefox...like an idiot) so I updated my password while I was half asleep...so today I realize I forgot my password (and the key element of the "secret question).

I'm wondering if there is a way to recover the data I submitted from my cache files or history from IE.

I haven't even found anything to direct me towards getting the information back...but I was hoping there could be something done, as I won't be able to retrieve my account otherwise.

is there a way they can be restored?

A:is there a way to retrieve data files?

KrzyPrk
If the files were deleted from the Win98SE side of your system you may be able to recover using this software. There is a free trial and many have saved lost files using it. Not usable for W2K

My Deskstar 75GXP (DTLA-307045) has recently entered its death throes. It's impossible for me to get into it, and even though Device Manager recognises the HD exists - and is "working properly". The icon to the drive does not show up in My Computer, in fact, it's gone from everywhere.

Is there hope for me to retrieve any data from the drive? Is there some software that can do this?

I'm running XP on a 1.4Ghz Athlon, on a KT7A-Raid mobo. The HDD in question only contains data - it's a slave to my C drive which is where I have Windows installed.

A:Software to retrieve data on a dud HDD?

D/L the diagnostics program for your HD

Then you could try HDD Regen (one of, if not the best), or Stellar Phoenix, or DriveRescue, or PartitionRecovery

A:Can i retrieve lost USB data???

You can try data recovery software however I would not hold out much hope with a flash drive. Here is a link to a free data recovery app http://www.piriform.com/recuva

This is just one of the reasons why we stress backups SO much. Data you do not backup is data you do not care about. All drives fail; it is only a question of when your drive will fail.

I have updated the REG files. Please download them again, and run the Add_Take_Ownership.reg file again to add "Take Ownership" to the drive context menu.

Hi all,

One of my friends has formatted his machine but now he has realized that he has done that with some important data. Now we are seeking for a software which can take the relevant formatted data back. What is the software we can use?. He is on windows xp. Please help.

A:How to retrieve formatted data?

Hi,
Useful guide and suggested software here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-scan-reformatted-hard-drive-to-recover-files/

Also in case you didn't know "
The first absolute rule you need to know is – do not write to the hard drive if you are planning on recovering data off it. When you write to a hard drive the system drivers randomly write data to the disk. So, when you write to a drive there is a good chance you are overwriting any data on it that you could have possibly restored.
This means do not try to boot from the drive, or if it is an external USB drive do not store any new files on it. Next, you can start thinking of recovery by picking one of the below mentioned options."
Hope this helps?
Richard

I used Nero to burn a CD with data and mistakenly was choosing Multisession each time (3 times total), so my data is written in three tracks on a CD. The problem is that Windows can access only the first track and there is no way I could get the data out of those two tracks. I tried to save an ISO image but Nero failed saying it was not possible due to some reasons (linked files or so). Is there any way I could save those data tracks?

P.S. Just solved that with a good program called ISOBuster, sorry

I've got an IDE Western Digital hard drive that is from an old computer. I do have some data on it I would like to retrieve. I wanted to add it to my newer computer as a second hard drive, but it wouldn't allow me to since I have a SATA drive and no place that I could see to plug it in. What might be the easiest way to get the data? My newer computer is a Dell inspiron D530.
