Exchange Server - OWA sync issues

Q: Exchange Server - OWA sync issues

Hi All

We have recently re-loaded windows at my work and ever since i have been unable to "sync" emails to my iPhone or iPad through exchange mail. This problem is only occuring on my devices when paired with my account. My account will work on new devices and other peoples accounts will work on my 2 devices.

Under my account in the exchange server we have removed both my devices, yet both devices are still appearing when I open my OWA account and they cannot be removed. Even pressing wipe device in OWA will not allow me to remove them. We have tried removing other peoples devices from their OWA and it works as expected.

We are at a loss. ANy ideas?

Preferred Solution: Exchange Server - OWA sync issues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What is Windows going on to? Server? Computer? What version of Office are you using on the main computer?

I get work emails on my iPhone and my work computer and via owa from home on another computer, and never had to "sync" any of those devices to get the same email on all three, why did they have to be Synced?

I am curious as to why this had to be done in the first place, also i have never seen any device showing in OWA only folders which i created and added via Outlook

Sorry I have not answered your question but your question has made me curious

I have both a Blackberry and a HP Jornada. I would like to sync them both to my Outlook, but only to the off line information - I don't want this info to be shared with everyone. However, when I hook up my devices and I am out of the office (not hooked up to the network) I can not sync either device. Is there a way to still have Outlook hooked up to the exchange server and load/sync my devices while offline and not have anyone see this info when I go back to my office and hook back into the network and thus the Exchange server?

Do I make that clear?!?!

My company is running Exchange server 5.5 and it seems that whenever our employees try to email specific customers, the message either fails completely or they get partial messages. I talked with the Network admin at the customers company and they say that it is only with us that this issue occurs. We have only 3 customers that this happens to and the rest work fine. Our exchange server is pretty much all defaults and they seem to be universal values, nothing fancy. Any suggestions?

A:Exchange server issues!

What do the addresses that fail have in common? Are they web mail cusomers, do they use Lotus Notes or CC Mail? I would check you Internet Mail Connector and see if it is set up correctly and also find out if Exchange is using the least cost route to send mail. We had a problem where the mail was taking too many hops before it's final destination and the mail would never reach the intended mail server. If you are using DNS to route mail make sure the remote host is registered on the DNS server or it will not go out.

A:MS exchange server issues over VPN line

Guys, the problem seemed to be with the Network and sharing Center
Select Network and Sharing Center > Change the users network to private via the ‘Customize’ option
Disconnect\reconnect to VPN

NB: The Private or Work network location options allow file & printer sharing and Network discovery (other users can see you). A Public location doesn't allow any of these features.

Also this will explain the irregularity of this problem as not all users would be affected.

I hope somone finds this information useful.

Have a client with an exchange server... There's been several instances where the Email to some addresses have not gone through. Sometimes they go through, some times they don't. The main issues is that some instances the server tires to send the email for about a week before it sends out an email saying it couldn't be delivered. One case it took up to 2 weeks.

Shown below you can see it trying to send the email for 2 weeks and then finally it sends out a Non-Delivered Report.

Is there some setting to change it so it only tries to send for like 12-24 hours? Any ideas what to look for to see why these emails are failing? It's happened 7 times the last month, and to about 5 different email addresses.

Yesterday something happened where my exchange server is now sending out roughly 100 packets a second across my network. This is saturating the rest of the network so that I cannot get online or access much of anything. I've rebooted the server in safe mode & the issue stops. I've also used AVG Anti-Virus & Microsoft AntiSpyware with no results.

I did have a program called syscfg16.exe or something like it running but I deleted that. This has not resolved my issue. Here is a hijackthis report showing what it running. Hopefully you guys can give me some advise as my next step

In Exchange 2000, as in Exchange 5.5, a public folder is a storage container for messages or information shared among all users in your organization. Public folders can still contain different types of information, and they are still part of the information store that Exchange clients and Web browsers can access. Now, Microsoft Office 2000 and custom applications can also access Exchange public folder stores. You can open and save documents directly in the public folder stores.

I access my exchange server mail with Thunderbird, connecting through exchange.mydomain.com - on Win7

I have recently setup exactly the same Thunderbird setup on a second computer (Mac OS x 10.6), however it's not syncing like I would ideally like...

For example, previous two days I was using Thunderbird on PC, and then this morning opened it on my Mac. The inbox processed, and displayed 33 new mail items - all of which were actually items since the last time I updated it on the Mac - so showing heaps as new, when I'd actually read and archived them on my PC.

The exchange server (when accessing thru web) has the mail as 'read' correctly, i.e. when I read through Thunderbird, it's updating exchange to make it as read. So I'm thinking that Thunderbird on the Mac is simply matching it's local inbox with what's on the server, and everything 'different' is new and unread...

Is there anything I can do to make them more synced, and for the second install of thunderbird to know what has already been read --- and also ideally know what has been archived on the thunderbird install on the PC --- so each account is identical all of the time?

Is that possible? I thought that was the goal of exchange, so fingers crossed...

Thanks in advance

A client of mine would like to sync his workstation PC with his secondary workstation at another location. They want to do this without exchange, as it is a costly venture, and he is the only one in the company who wants it.

I looked into the program Sync2, However when syncing it doesn't preserve his timestamps when he received the e-mails. And it doesn't sync subfolders he has in his inbox. So i am looking for alternatives. Are any of you aware of them? Sub $100 would be best, But i'm sure if it's under the cost of exchange he'll take it.

Could you be slightly more specific? Are you saying he is currently connected to a POP service and wants the emails synced? Is this why you're suggesting Exchange? If he is already connected to an Exchange server are you asking about syncing the PST files?

Ok, so I am very new to Exchange. I don't even know how to check the version I am running. I basically can set up accts/users and all that kind of stuff. My problem is that I just started using Outlook 2003 to access my stuff. I am getting sync errors everytime I sync. I get an error syncing the public address book. Also my public folders do not show up in Outlook, nor does my "Sync Issues" folder. All of this stuff works fine if I bring it up in OWA. Does any one have any idea of how to get these to work???

For some weird reason it all showed up today and then went away when I clicked the "Mail" tab. Don't know what that was all about. So I know it can work... Just don't know how.

Hi all,

I've recently installed Outlook 2003 on my home computer (XP Home SP2) to access my work email off an Exchange (6.5, I think) server. I've been able to sync all my work emails just fine. Until now I've been using Thunderbird ( to manage a couple of my personal Gmail accounts. Now that I have Outlook I'd like to use that to manage all my email accounts, work and personal. I managed to transfer my personal emails from Thunderbird into Outlook 2003 and setup Outlook to download the Gmail messages. However, Outlook keeps sync'ing my personal Gmail messages onto our work Exchange Server. Is there a way to prevent this?

In transferring the messages from Thunderbird to Outlook all the messages are in the same mailbox as the work emails but in a 'Personal' folder. In 'Tools - Options - Mail Setup - Send/Receive... - Folder Options' the 'Personal' folder is not checked, so I thought it wouldn't sync with the server. I'm probably missing something very obvious, but can't seem to find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have setup 10 XDA phones with 8 users onto their MS exchange server. However 2 user accounts are giving me problems. When the phone starts to sync I can see the account beinf checked for changes, then it shows how many email their are to sync i.e. 0/100 (meaning so far it has sync'd 0 out of the 100) the it instantly shoots up to 100 but does not sync the mail.) I get a generic error code

The accounts that have this problem have no other problems on their server including OWA.

The other phones progress with their mail syncing i.e. 100/100 and i can see the numbers slowly adding up. I know the sever is ifne as 10 out of 8 work.

So what the heck is causing this, cause it just my luck the two user accounts are the bosses!!

I really dont want to have to delete the accounts as these accounts have been their for ages and the hassel is just a pain.

The permssions are the same for the other users and all seems ok. It does sync their calandar so its something to do with the exchange mail box.

But what could it be!!????????!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions

Okay, this one is a doozy. We had our storage server OS drive crash on our domain which required a reinstall. Luckily the data stores were all there still on a separate RAID, so it was just a matter of redoing the shares after the reinstall. However
we ran into a problem with several laptop users.

As soon as they plugged into the network today, all the work they did during the outage appears to be gone. They appear only to have access to the files on the network (which of course isn't current). As a test, I've tried disconnecting them from
the local network to check their offline files (disabling wireless and unplugging the dock) and they appear to lose access to everything as a result now... both desktop and files.
I've attempted a sync in Sync Center but it simply says "Sync Pending" and hangs there.

When I try to navigate to view my offline files on the system through the Sync Center interface, it says "The system cannot find the file specified."

Out of curiosity, I tried manually navigating to Windows\CSC and access is denied. Even when attempting to take ownership as local admin, it still doesn't want to let me in.

As many of the solutions suggest, I know I could delete the cache and format the db and sync fresh from our network, but they will lose out on all the changes they've made to their documents over the past week or so. They may lose out on a significant
amount of work.

Can anyone help me with setting up this network layout with my Pix Firewall.
Network Layout : Pix > DMZ > ISA Server 2004 > Exchange Server 2003 + Users.

Pix outside IP Address :
Pix inside IP Address :
DMZ IP Addresss :
ISA Server outside IP :
ISA Server inside IP :

I've identified the interfaces IP Address and named all plus the following config:

global (outside) 1 interface

nat (inside) 1 0 0

nat (dmz) 1 0 0

conduit permit icmp any any

route outside 1

I can now access the internet from my ISA Server in the DMZ zone.
I am intending to put the ISA Server out on the DMZ to access the outside world with

static (dmz,outside) netmask 0 0

and then open all traffic to ISA with

access-list acl_out permit ip any host any
access-group acl_out in interface outside

then I’ll give ISA server access to the inside network with

access-list acl_dmz permit tcp eq 25
access-group acl_dmz in interface dmz

With the above commands, the first access-list acl_out was not accepted by pix plus the second access-list acl_dmz so if you could please share some light upon my configurations.

I am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.

Steps taken so far.

Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
Check various registry entry settings.
Disabled cashing on the File server.
Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.

I have spent hours researching this error online to no avail.

The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2

Any help or ideas would be most welcome.

XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it. These two issues seem to be related since right after I reboot, the Authentication tab works normally (as well as the time sync like I mentioned above), and they both seem to stop working at the same time. I have no idea if it happens after something I run or if it's just after a certain amount of time or what. Any ideas?

As the title says, you can regain exchange active sync to Google services and make your calendar, contacts and mail tiles work again with 2 way sync on Google calendar and contacts.

Its not free but i rather pay the 30 bucks a year for this service and regain the integrated sync features to Google that they killed making the calendar tile useless. I think this even works with Outlook 2013 after setting up an exchange account.

The service is not new and its called Nueva Sync. You may try the service for 10 days and the premium subscription costs 30 bucks a year. It acts as an exchange server "bridge" between Google services and Windows 8 or even old nokia phones or any other smartphone with exchange capabilities.

Go to nuevasync.com and choose the free trial. Then choose Windows Phone and then choose email, contacts, calendar and tasks.

Setting up these items one at the time will ask you to give nuevasync access on your Google mail/contacts/calendar/tasks.

Then on Windows 8 you just need to setup an exchange active sync account on the mail tile, enter the nuevasync server details and voila.

Full 2 way sync of mail, contacts, calendar and tasks just like it was when Windows 8 was launched and before Google killed exchange active sync support for consumer user.

I'm posting here after giving up finding the answer either from Apple, limited use experience or search since in this forum are found folks frequently knowledgeable across silos (I've first tried the MS Office forum to no avail)

Given: MS Outlook '07 + iPhone.

Problem: To sync Outlook Tasks to the phone maintaining the sort order of my desktop Outlook. If you sync using Apple's iCloud tasks are placed in the reminder app which does not allow for custom sort and seemingly sorts by the least reasonable measure.

I could get tasks to sync using Outlook Connector and (opening an account with) Hotmail. However I can't find a current straight answer as to whether that option falls under $ subscription. Further, even if I did sync this way I don't know if the tasks would still be rearranged by the phone or whether it was the iCloud that rearranged them when I attempted that route.

Lastly, I could (for $10/mo) just have my entire Outlook sync through Rack Space's Hosted Exchange. Apart from getting tasks to the phone this does have another important benefit that might also be achieved using Connector. But if I'm going to pay for this, even if the $10 is double a MS charge, I'd prefer going with Exchange. But the core question remains the same (which I cannot get from RS either). Will the tasks on the phone, after sync, maintain 'my' sort order from Outlook.

Anyone got an idea it's surely welcome.

A:Wrong forum (but) Outlook tasks sync iphone MS conn vs hosted exchange

First, I don't own an IPhone but a Droid, but I've synced and configured Iphones at work thru our Exchange Server. Syncing works very well with the email, calendar and all the Tasks goes under Reminders in IPhone and the sort order in Outlook stays the same as far as I know if not I'd hear complaints from the Users.
But, with the hosted Exchange solution I don't know if it will make any difference. Best thing to do is give it a try for a few days and see if it works for you. Most of the hosted exchange providers should have a free trial.

Have you tried iMExchange App on your phone to sort your Tasks in the Reminders App?

Specs: XP with Outlook 2003 connecting to an Exchange Server

Question: When you close OL and open Mail from the control panel, what type of connection is it when you select the top item to configure your connection type as "Exchange server" or is there no way to tell? The reason I ask is our corp office just changed us from a pop3 sendmail server to Exchange (now we have webmail access when traveling, hooray!), but I'm not sure if it's an IMAP of sorts, or a proprietary protocol between M$ products (like IMAP...only different, lol). If it is and IMAP, I'm not using OL and I'm switching back to my old client. Just wondering...

Hey drew,

what you're talking about is the MAPI protocol that's built into Windows which "provides a feature-rich set of functionality for accessing Exchange" and all of the other goodies available in Outlook.

Hi All

I have a question about Microsoft Exchange server
we are currently using Exhange 5.5 to manage our email (and the same server also acts as our domain controller)

We have a second server running SBS 2003 which runs our sql database (M1 erp)
which requires a lot of grunt

we have done this to lesson the workload on the SBS server and provide redundacy
which has worked well, we are how ever receiving a lot of spam and are looking at options
i beleive we should update the local Pc's to the lastest version of Outlook which provides much better filtering as a start
Would we gain from changing to the SBS server Exchange in reducing the spam as i am not so sure, how ever others say yes so i would just like peoples thoughts on this

A client has asked me to give them a quote to set up an exchange server and five client computers. Four of the desktops have windows xp home. The network they have was not planned it was an accident. LoL Anyways I am thinking of building the server myself and have built my own server. I used SBS 2003 standard. They also want to implement Outlook business contacts manager. I think their business will quickly need more licenses for the server. Do you have any hardware suggestions and and pricing guildlines to quote them with? Do they need winxp pro on all the desktops? They mostly would like to use outlooks exchange and calendar features. I would want there to be a mirrored raid but am unsure how big the hard drives should be. I have done fine with two 80 gig hard drives. Any ideas would be appreciated.

When trying to open MS Exchange Server the following message appears: : “Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable.”
Any recommendations?

This error is a bit trickier to resolve only because there can be many different causes. No data connection – test your SMTP connection using telnet. If you are unsure how to do this, there is a good program: Exchange Server Fix Toolbox https://www.fixtoolbox.com/exchangeserverfix.html

I'm trying to find a solution to sync all of my outlook data (calendars, tasks etc) between my main comp, htc and eee pc running windows.

I have the chance to use a full exchange server 2007 or 2010 license. They are legitimate copies.

How easy would this be to set up at home?

Any help is appreciated.

Personally I say:

Minimum requirements: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx
(scroll down to HardWare)
I'm quoting 2007 but oh well, about the same
