Unable to log in until activated, unable to activate

Q: Unable to log in until activated, unable to activate

Hi

I have a laptop here. I have been forced to do a repair install on it and when entering the Welcome screen, XP lets me know that the prodict is not activated. Would you like to activate now? Yes No.
Either answer results in a windows shutdown jingle and loops back to the welcome screen to start the game again.

Have tried in safe mode, but the same happens with the exception that it also let me know that Microsoft cannot activate in Safe mode.

I have performed many many repair installs with XP, first time for this!

As a sidenote, wgatray.exe was playing up a fair bit before the reinstall. Lots of red marks in the even viewer.

The cd I am using is a system builder XP SP2 and the key is legitimate.

Any ideas guys and gals?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well I got a big problem.

A couple days ago I noticed network connectivity issues. Random connection drops, overall bad connection, etc. I recently had some really bad malware and I removed it, so I suspected leftover malware from the start. I went to check Windows Update to see if I missed a security update, and it wasn't even on my computer. Something removed the service completely off my computer, so I found a .reg to fix it. I then started Windows Update and found that I had 30 updates missing and updated all of them successfully.

I then decided to see what was going on with my Windows Firewall, only to find that it was also removed. Wasn't in my services or anything. So I downloaded the .reg to fix that, tried to activate the service, only to run into another roadblock that I still haven't been able to fix, an error stating

"The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".

Ok. So I checked my services again and I believe that some more were completely missing(Base Filtering Engine, NSI proxy Service). So to try and remedy this, I attempted an sfc /scannow in elevated cmd prompt.

Then another brick wall. I get to 59% and then I get this message

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation".

Trustedinstaller service is turned on, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message. But... Read more

I recently uninstalled Norton and am now unable to reactivate Windows Defender.
In admin command prompt I tried using "sc start WinDefend Enable" but it told me it could not verify the digital signature.
I tried changing the Windows Defender Service startup type to automatic.
I also tried a system file check and it said that there were corrupt files it cannot fix, the log from this is attached below.
I would like to resolve this issue without having to refresh or reset windows any and all help will be appreciated.

If a third-party trial anti-virus came preinstalled on your computer or you installed one yourself, it most likely turned Windows 8 Defender off (disabled) to avoid conflicts since it includes anti-virus protection. Hello people.

I have a major issue with my wireless card.
I'll explain quickly.

- I had a trendnet wifi adaptater in PCI which I could get to work anymore after trying to desinstall/resintall. (loosing connection in the middle of online games)
- I bought a D-Link DWA-547 Pci wifi card, believing my old card was dead. (I tried it on a older computer with XP it runs perfectly).
- I installed the new card, no problem.
- now the card is activated in the "network connections" tab (it is even green just like seeing a few wifi networks). but I cannot see any wifi networks, and there are a lot nearby.
- I have tried to unistall/reinstall my new card. no luck.
- I have connected myself to Internet by RJ-45 to put everything up-to-date, no luck.
- I have tried to desactivate/reactivate my card.
- i uninstall "bonjour" as I read somewhere this could be the problem. still no luck.

- furthermore, when activated when i'm using the command line ipconfig/all, the wifi card does not appear in this command line.
- I tried the ipconfig/renew it says "the operation has failed because no card has the autorised status for this operation" (i'm translating it from french, so maybe it's not the exact words).

maybe a clean install would be THE solution, but I really would try not to do that.

please help!!

Welcome to Seven Forums,

I'd verify from your computer's BIOS if LAN and WLAN support are both enabled.

Depending on the Model of your computer, when you retart it you may either select F1 or F2 to go the BIOS setup.

Hi,

I've had this PC running XP for a while. I got it used and installed an old copy of XP Pro my dad gave me.

I've never been able to activate it. It can't connect to Microsoft activation server. Also, when I try phone activation, the system at the other end won't recognize my installation id.

I've tried running various genuine diagnostic programs from Microsoft such as OGAplugininstall but get the error 'installation failure. Failed to copy files. 0x80070003'

I've kept the computer going by resetting the Oobetimer every month. However, nothing I do now can get the activation clock to reset. Oobetimer goes back to it's original value after I reboot.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? This is an old computer, 2002 gateway, and when I originally asked a tech guy, he wasn't sure of it could run win 7 or not.

Thanks.

A:unable to activate on xp.

Sounds to me as a patently illegal install.

I suggest that you pursue this issue directly with Microsoft.

As for your question about Win 7 capability...see Win 7 Hardware Compatibility .

Your illegal install of Windows is a direct violation of BC Forum Rules (see link in my sig for more exhaustive list).  Applicable excerpt follows.

"No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences."

Hi, just bought a new laptop, upgraded to W8-pro and tried to get bitlocker to work unsuccessfully.
There is no TPM chip so I followed the instructions to enable additional authentification, set a password and rebooted as required. On restart, item 16 on the instructions (BitLocker - Turn On or Off for OS Drive in Windows 8) does not happen, instead I get the error message in item 17 - "Bitlocker could not be enabled etc".

The instructions rather unhelpfully say "If the BitLocker system check failed from step 15 above, then you will see this below. Click/tap on Close. You are now finished since BitLocker was unable to encrypt the Windows 8 OS drive." Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why it has failed. Can anybody help - I've saved the recovery key to a memory stick and left that in the usb port at reboot but that made no difference.

Any help much appreciated.

I have an HP Media Center with Windows XP Professional installed. I recently had a problem and had to restore my computer. I had previously backed up my computer's hard drive to a removable drive. After restoring my computer, a lot of my restored applications did not function properly.

I have installed and uninstalled the software from the original CD several times all with the same result. My computer is for a single user (myself) and I have Administrator authority.

The software worked fine when initially installed, before I restored my computer. I even tried to restore from my backup with the same results. The installed hardware (the carousel) works manually, but I would really like to create and update an index on my computer.

Hello all.

I recently formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows. However, I was forced to use my dad's disc, which is notably a few years older than mine, to install. I had lost my disc, but still had my serial code. Now, I'm unable to activate Windows with the tool that keeps prompting me to do so. It says "Online activation cannot be completed at this time." Obviously my internet connection works fine, but otherwise I have no idea what the problem may be. I was able to update with the Automatic Updater just fine.

My alternative is to either find my own disc (I've been searching for weeks to no avail) or activate it by phone. I would prefer not to have to call Microsoft. Another alternative I could think of would be to take my rig in to the shop which built it for me, and explain things to them. If I give them my serial code, is it possible they may be willing to do a format/reinstall with my code?

Thanks!
~Aika

To anyone who can clear this up you have my undying gratitude!
I run a small project in the UK recycling old PCs for those on low incomes and we have recently been having the same repetitive fault when trying to activate XP. The OS has been properly installed from the Windows XP disk, logs onto the www and does its updates for necessary drivers etc; then when its comes to Activation says it can not access the Microsoft site to do so. There is nothing wrong with the hardware as browsing is fine, and downloads happen easily.I have tried getting hold of Microsoft on the phone but gave up after waiting innumerable minutes on several occasions, so would really appreciate a solution so I can move on with my life!

Hi,

I am facing a peculiar issue with my Acer Aspire 5739G laptop.

As of now, my laptop has only 1 drive i.e c:.

I want to create another drive so that I can store all my documents in that drive and not loose them in case i do need to do a system restore to factory defaults.

I have tried following steps:

1)In DiskManagement, tried to do a shrink Volume on C: and then create a new volume ( E: ) and then do a format.

However, after rebooting the i do not find the file there. In computer management, the partition has somehow changed to EISA configutration.

2) I tried using the DiskPart command as well. However, the concerned partition is showing as Id=12,Hidden=Yes,Active=No.

I did try to do change id to 27, but somehow it does not work. Can someone please help me in enabling the partition 3 so that I do not loose all my data(I have already lost it once)

The "Activate Windows" program states "Windows can't activate. Try again later"
Clicking on the "Error details" displays a blank box (see image).
Running slui 4 hangs / spins at "call and provide your installation id"
slui 3 states my key doesn't work
Running the windows update diagnostic provides these fixes:
Service registration is missing or corrupt - Fixed
Windows update error 0x80070057 - Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Fixed
(Note none of these are fixed, and it provides this output every time the diagnostics tool is run)
Booting from the disk and running a refresh states the drive is locked and must be unlocked.

Where did you purchase your new 8.1Pro Key from?
From what I can see, the current Key appears to have been declared 'expired' - I'm not sure whether this means that it's out of the grace period, or that the Key itself is wrong.

You should really be asking this question on our sister forum - www.eightforums.com - where people with more experience of Win8.1 upgrade problems may be able to help better than I can.

A client brought me an Envy dv7 laptop that had come originally with Windows 8.0. He reported that it had be updated to Windows 8.1 and then Windows 10. He wanted to transfer the machine to a relative, so did a factory restore back to 8.0. He brought it to me to return it to Windows 10. To save time, I did a clean install of Windows 10 and it reported activated. Now, a few days later it says it is NOT activated. After speaking with Microsoft, I was told I had to retrieve the original imbedded Windows 8.0 license key from the motherboard an input it as the license key to activate Windows 10. I don't have any idea how to retrieve that key and from the reading I've done, HP is not likely to be helpful on this. I've even tried Windows 8.0 and 8.1 OEM keys I have in stock, but they do not work.  I'm open for suggestions and/or assistance on this.

A:Unable to activate Windows 10

Hello, This falls under Microsoft responsibility. HP might be able to help you activate Windows 8/8.1 which originally was installed on the PC. After it migrated to 10, it is using MS methods (so to say).  If the computer had previously Win 8/8.1 and was eventually upgraded to Windows 10, then it is activated using Digital Entitlement method, therefore no keys/codes are needed for activation. If Windows 10 is later reinstalled, then it should activate fine without any codes as long as these conditions are met:- the computer is the same- the hardware is the same- the correct Windows 10 edition was installed  If the computer originally had Windows 8.1 (e.g. Standard edition) but now you installed Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, then it will not work. Most probably this is the case. Based on the official documentation, this computer comes with variety of options and some are Windows 8 (standart/plain edition), the others come with 8.1 Pro. Please, check which one was the edition originally installed, take Windows 10 from MS with the correct edition and reinstall it >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO Windows 10 should activate fine using Digital Entitlement >> https://support.microsoft.com/is-is/help/12440/windows-10-activation Let me know how this goes.

I have been using my genuine (original) XP Pro (oem) CD to do repair & setup on multiple older PCs just to get them in shape and up to date. It was working fine & able to activate on the first few machines, but finally then, I got this message, after it finished running a setup, booting into the Welcome screen,

"Windows Product Activation: (with a circled Red X) This copy must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to Activate Windows now? Yes or No"

I keep clicking "yes" but the same message box keeps reappearing continuously. It would not go any further. What is wrong? Is because I use the same product key to run several repair setups on multiple machines in a short period or did I use it to register & activate from different IP address under different names? Anyone has the similar problem to help?

A:Unable to Activate XP Pro at the Welcome screen

You can't use the same product key on multiple computers. You're not going to be able to activate Windows XP on this computer, and eventually all the others will likely stop updating or working.

Becasue of security problems, was forced to attempt repair of windows xp sp2. Repair succeeded but then prompted for activation code. I inadvertently may have entered the wrong code as I have several licenses.
Now when I boot - I get the windows login screen - when I click on the user name - error message comes up says - this copy of windows must be activated - options are yes or no - clicking on yes brings up a blank desktop for a very long time and then puts me back at the login screen - clicking on no puts me back at the logon screen right away.
I believe the problem is that windows cannot access the internet to authenticate the activation but I cannot connect to the internet without windows.
A real catch 22!
The system boots in safe mode!
Any help would be appreciated

A:unable to activate windows xp sp2

why was there a repair to begin with, maybe related?

as far as the activation, the best thing to do is to try the repair again and make sure you use the proper key.

OEM means one disk for one PC. What your are doing appears to illegal and per rules we can't help.

We bought this laptop about a year ago at Best Buy, but haven't used it much until recently. I see that Windows 8 is not activated, however, when I go the system page to activate it, nothing happens. I have tried EVERYTHING, including: Downloading the Windows 10 update(this won't work unless the current version of Windows is activated)I checked the properties of this PC, and for Product ID, it says "Not Available".Additionally, I used a 3rd party program (belarus) to ID the Windows product key, so I tried to manually activate Windows using the key, and get a message that the key is not valid. I have done this MANY times, just to make sure I'm entering the right key. At this point, this product is near useless, as I can't even install Windows updates until I can validate/activate the current OS.  FYI, the version of Windows 8.1 is Build 9600, whatever that is. This notebook did not come with a sytem DVD or a hard copy of Windows, either. I even tried restting the computer to the original factory settings, and that didn't help either. I'm hoping there is a solution for this - help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Tech guys, Thanks for birthday greetings.
I have a problem activating xp pro sp3 online on a very old laptop. The server appears to be shut down and I only have PAYG mobile so landline activation is prohibitively expensive, is there, now that xp is officially dead, a workaround.
The computer is only used to run car diagnostics, and is old 'cos software and leads require serial and parallel ports. Any help would be appreciated.
I have spent an appreciable amount of time "googling" for the answer, but got nowhere.

I was prompted to choose an activation method, either online or by telephone. I chose online and I entered the License ID and the Password, as instructed. However, when I clicked Enter, I received the following error message:

Is it somehow possible to activate this program? If not, I guess I'll just throw it away.

This actually isn't my own problem, but someone I'm trying to help. Recently they re-installed Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate from an Ultimate 32-bit installation, both the same key/copy. After installing 64-bit Ultimate, Microsoft says their CD key is blocked and are unable to activate. They attempted to revert to 32-bit from frustration, but now 32-bit is blocked, as well. So both 32 and 64 are blocked.

For years they used 32-bit. During those years, they changed their motherboard and hard drive. They used the 32-bit version on both motherboards and different hard drives without error. Their license is a retail version, not an OEM. But, is it possible Microsoft has the CD key tagged to the old 32-bit version and sees the new 64-bit installation as invalid? In other words, is this potentially an error on Microsoft's end?

Addendum: We know their license is retail because their initial purchase of Win7 Ultimate came with a builder's kit key. After a year passed, they were able to obtain a legitimate retail license from Microsoft after explaining and proving their situation with the initial vendor.

A:Unable to activate Win7 after re-installing from 32-bit to 64-bit

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hello,

I am having issues activating Office 365 on my Mac (OS 10.11.6). I previously had Office 2008 installed. I uninstalled it and downloaded Office 2016. My (only) office account is through my school. I have been able to successfully use this account online, on my phone, and on a different (PC) laptop. However, when I try to activate, I'm sent into a continuous loop where it briefly flashes my school's login page then back to the activate page.

Microsoft helpline was no help. I've deleted all keychains, uninstalled Office twice along with the leftover library files. Nothing works. School's IT dept. said it's a bug with Microsoft. Microsoft helpline says it's an issue with my school's exchange.

I don't know if this was an issue before installing SP1, but afterward I happened to notice it. I went to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > System Properties > System Protection. The list of available drives looked like this:

Quote:
RECOVERY
(F: ) Iomega HDD
(C: ) OS (System)
OS (C: ) (Missing)

The "missing" item is a little odd, but I then did the following:
Clicked (C: ) OS (System)
Clicked the Configure... button where it says "Configure restore settings, manage disk space, and delete restore points"
Chose "Restore system setting and previous versions of files"
Moved the "Max Usage" slider to 12%
Clicked Apply
And this error popped up:

Quote:
There was an unexpected error in the property page:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
(0x8007007B)

Please close the property page and try again.

I rebooted and tried again, with the same result.

In desperate need of tech help!!

A couple of weeks ago, when I booted up my laptop, it was unable to access its Windows XP Professional, even in Safe Mode. At that time, I was advised that the only solution would be to reinstall my Windows XP from the original installation disk.

Unfortunately, the only Windows installation disk I have is from an earlier Gateway computer, since Microsoft has made the regrettable decision to no longer provide their customers with the software installation disks for new computers.

The good news is that I was able to reinstall Windows XP from that disk(although it's the Home version), and was able to update it with all the appropriate Service Packs by going online. The bad news is that, as I tried to re-activate my Windows XP, Microsoft would not accept the original activation code, and all they would tell me is that they no longer provide support for Windows XP.

As far as I'm concerned, this is completely unacceptable, since I paid for the program when I bought the Gateway computer, and it seems to me this is nothing but a scam on Microsoft's part to force customers to buy newer versions of Windows.

Anyway, I have about 12 days left to activate my version of Windows XP, otherwise I will have to wait until I can afford to buy a newer version of Windows before I can even use my computer.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for solving this problem?

Hi all,

Yesterday I finally installed my new Mobo and CPU.

I got my Windows 7 retail disc and inserted the disc, and activated it just fine using the "9 boxes of code" with phone activation. Then, I installed Windows 10 using a USB bootable. However, I could NOT activate. It would say "no digital entitlement found" or something like that. I tried putting in my Windows 7 key for activation, but it said "this key is already being used on another PC". I tried using phone activation but after entering all the numbers, the automatic voice prompt told me he was unable to activate.

Then, I reinstalled Windows 7, and tried doing an upgrade. I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and clicked "Upgrade this PC", but once the computer restarted and went to that "circle" installing screen, it got to 40℅ then gave me an error message, when I clicked OK, it began restoring Windows 7.

My new mobo is the MSI Z170A, and my new CPU is the 6700K.

What do I do??? I don't want to miss out on the upgrade. Please help!

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2CN laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I didn't have a recovery disk and have had to do a new installation as the laptop was running slow and it was a last resort. What I didn't realise is that I needed a recovery disk as I have since found out that the product key I have is for Toshiba OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

However, I have used an Acer OEM Windows Home Premium 64 bit recovery disk. I stupidly thought that I could install any Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installation, as long as I typed in the product key...

I wasn't prompted to enter the product key on installation, but when I tried to activate windows I get error code 0XC004E003. Below is my report as requested if anyone can advise what can be fixed?

Thank you in anticipation

You cannot use an OEM_SLP Key with any other media than the proper manufacturer's Recovery media - for installs with anything else, you MUST use the Key from the COA sticker on the machine's case.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

Hey.  Basically I made some hardware changes to my computer (a year ago or so) and now Windows is requiring another activation.  Problem is, I don't have access to the Internet through that computer and when I called tech support they told me that because I can't produce an installation ID# (there wasn't one on the dialog box), I have to format and re-install the OS.  I really don't feel like doing that (not just because I tossed the installation CD my computer came with), and this is Microsoft after all, so I'm basically asking is there another way to activate?  Would an Internet connection get the job done or is there something else I can do?  Thanks...

A:Unable to activate copy of Windows XP Pro

Activation...is the province of Microsoft...as is every version of Windows.  PA protects MS property/legal rights.

Are you saying that you tried a telephonic activation?

I've not heard of "installation ID"...a user needs the license/key to activate.

If the system is an OEM system (made by Dell, HP, etc.)...a change of key hardware items has been considered a change of system by MS...since 2006 or so.

I just purchased Windows 7 64bit upgrade.

I installed it on my Windows XP computer. According to the official microsoft guidance, this upgrade can only be done as a "clean" or "custom" install - in place installs don't work when upgrading a 32bit system to 64bit.

Anyway, I installed Windows 7 no problem, but when trying to activate I am told 0xC004F061 error, This product key is licensed only for upgrading, not for clean installations.

What do I do? This is a valid CD for installing Windows 7 to an XP computer, and I have a valid XP COA - how do I activate the software I paid for?
