Q: Only1/3 HDMI ports work on my desktop computer

Only the blank port out of my PC works. HDMI ports labled as"1" and "2" do not work. Why? I need to set up multiple moniters.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an HP Pavilion 550-154na desktop connected to my Dell monitor by HDMI cable from the graphics card, it works fine. But I'd like to connect a second monitor (or projector). The graphics card only has one HDMI port, but the back of the machine has two HDMI ports (covered with black caps), which presumably come off the motherboard. I tried plugging my monitor into one of these ports but the screen stayed blank. What are my options? Is it possible to get output from these ports or do I need to use a splitter or something?

A:Should my motherboard HDMI output ports work?

Hi: When your model has a discrete (add-on) video card, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled. Look under the Integrated Graphics specs. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-550-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499648/model/9242957/docu... You can get output from those ports if you remove the graphics card. If you leave the graphics card in, you can either hook up a DVI cable from the DVI out port on the graphics card to the DVI input of your monitor.  I would think most monitors have multiple inputs. If your other monitor only has a HDMI input, get a DVI to HDMI cable. You will not get audio from a DVI port.

I recently bought an HP ENVY 750se Desktop PC that has what I believe to be 2 HDMI in ports that do not seem to be working and are not displayed in the 'devices list' in Device Manager. There is also an HDMI out port that is working just fine. I was attempting to connect a DSLR camera to the through the HDMI in ports to capture live feeds. Also, I just checked the product details from the order and those HDMI in ports are not listed there. Yet, they're on the PC in an extension slot. Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I have a 6 month old Z30-A Portege i7 laptop (PT243A-0HW02X) running Windows 7 64bit, and the 13.3" 1920x1080 internal display screen is not working - nothing is displayed on the screen.

However I can connect an external monitor via the RGB cable port or to the HDMI port and still use the laptop that way.

I have tried various Function F5 Output toggles choosing Clone, External, Extend, Switch Display, but nothing works to get output back again to the laptop display screen.

On the External option I see a laptop icon in grey colour with a X on the screen, and a '1' on the other display icon, and a window appears for 'Toshiba Flash Cards' with red x error message " Failed to initialize Output Configuration dialog!".

There is no further help available to tell me what the problem is.
When I choose the Function F5 Output Configuration option, the 'Internal' line is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Could a BIOS update help to tell me if there is a hardware issue?
There is nothing about the display error in the Windows event viewer.

Thanks.

A:No display on Portege Z30-A screen but HDMI / RGB ports work

I have a similar problem.

When I boot up, I see the Windows 7 logo, but then everything goes black after that.

I can start the computer in safe mode and the laptop screen works no problem. In Safe Mode I can even switch to 1920x1080 resolution. So the video hardware + drivers are working, just not in normal Windows mode.

Tried reinstalling video drivers but no luck.

I also wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows 7 + video drivers and still no luck...

It started happening literally out of the blue... after six months, like yourself.

I have a Z30t-A-123.

Does anybody from Toshiba respond here or are we left to our own devices?

Hey guys I was hoping for some help on this issue I have been having, no one can seem to help. I have an Asus Desktop. I plugged a working HDMI cord into my older Sony Bravia TV (Smart TV). I have a GTX 760 192 Bit NVIDIA graphics card. I went to the NVIDIA control panel, and it wont read the TV. I tried going through the windows 10 64 bit version of trying to find connected devices, and the TV shows up but as a media streaming device. It almost seems like the PC itself doesn't know it has an HDMI slot. I have read other forums. I have tried so many things. Something usually so simple is becoming a very big pain. If someone can please help me I would highly appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hi there

two things

press Windows +P to switch to show on BOTH monitors to start with. The error is probably is that your older TV won't support the higher resolutions of the graphics card.

Your Sony TV might only support a max resolution of 1080i not full 1080p (1920 X 1080) HD mode. These older TV's could easily be distinguished by the fact they were always advertised as "HD READY" rather than full 1080p HD.

try reducing the resolution until you see something on the screen. To switch back to external monitor only just press Windows key +P again and select 2nd screen only.

Cheers

A:ubs ports won't work after computer crash

Usually when you first start your pc up there will be an option to enter setup mode. Standard is to press F1 but sometimes it's different. Try pressing F1 as the computer is starting up to see if this will bring you into the BIOS. If not, pay attention to see if it says "press F something to enter setup". Then when you're in the BIOS check to see if the usb ports were disabled.

So title pretty much sums up my problem. It all started after I looked at this article to get rid of icons that I didn't have anymore. I did that and a lot of old icons from programs I used to have cleared up. Great, right? Well, what startled me is I have two of the file explorers. The screenshot is here. See how one has description and the other one doesn't? Idk why I have two of them, but I just do. Right now, here's what my device managers look like even though I have my external and a test usb stick to make sure the ports are working. You can see in the picture that they are triangles with the yellow exclamation mark. As I'm typing this, my cruzer usb stick is not glowing - which is unusual because if it works, it usually glows orange.

What really irritates me is this happens at least once a day and the issue fixes itself if I restart the computer. So idk if I'm infected. Malwarebytes comes up as my computer being clean; Hitman Pro is the same. Then there's also adwcleaner that also gives me the message there's no malicious programs so idk what to do. Right now, I'm running sfc /scannow. If nothing comes up, then idk if restarting my computer will have to be something to get used to. :/

Update: The sfc scan finished and here are the results.

A:USB Ports Don't Work Unless I Restart the Computer

If all this started after you made the registry change for the icons, run Windows System Restore - choose a restore point prior to editing the registry -

I don't know if my PC is dying a slow natural death or if an outside insult caused it.
During a recent thunderstorm, a power flicker turned off my computer. After rebooting, I had no Internet access. That problem seems to have been simply a bad cable between the router and the cable modem, however I did have to fiddle with the tcpip settings. But while checking cables, my wireless Logitech mouse quit working. I plugged the mouse receiver into an empty USB port next to the one it had been plugged into on the rear of the machine, and it worked again. The other port is still dead.

Later I found that one of the two USB ports in front of the machine no longer works. I can still use it to charge my phone, but it pops up a "Device not recognized" message if I plug a drive/camera/phone/etc into it. No conflicts are shown in the device manager. I would feel safe in assuming a power surge from lightening had popped something on the MB causing the failure, but there's another possibility. The day before all this happened I purchased a cheap 4-socket USB expansion hub and used it in one of the front sockets to plug in several devices, a scanner and my phone and camera cables. Has anyone ever heard of one of these hubs causing a blown circuit? Maybe too much current draw for the cheap motherboard? Strange that the failing sockets are in two different physical locations.

I really don't want to need a new computer, but my printer and backup drive are USB and I can't stand... Read more

Hi, recently I tried to connect my my desktop computer to my TV. The main display is an acer monitor connected via DVI cable, and now I want to use an HDMI cable to connect to the TV which it does not seem to work. The graphics chip is an AMD 760g, no graphics card to use at the moment.
When I go to screen resolution, the only option displayed there, when trying to extend to a second monitor, is "Display device on: VGA" as the only option, no HDMI there. I remember when I did get it to connect to the TV, it only displayed on the TV, and the monitor was now blank.
Is there any solution to this?

A:Connecting my computer to TV via HDMI won't work?

Justabluejay mate have you got a HDMI port on the computer if you haven't then you will not be able to hook it up via that method. If the TV has a DVI port then you will be able to hook up then you will get video but the audio will have to hook up using dedicated cables (RCA to RCA).

Now just in case I have it wrong because the specs listed at the bottom quote a laptop can you post some details / specs about the machine in question System Info - See Your System Specs or at very least the motherboard details.

Hi

My hotmail crashed last Wednesday because after months it decided to start asking for my password. I couldn't remember, but knew it was one of two possibilities. It didn't like that and even when I put in the right one it would tell me because of too many failed attempts my email was temporarily unavailable. Then it started installing one update every time I shut it off. Even after I got the email fixed it still does it. Yesterday it installed the update four times.

Problem 2: I have 2 USb ports that are not responding. Any ideas on how to fix them.
I am afraid this thing is going to crash.

Thanks for your time and your patience.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

Both my Desktop and Laptop have HDMI input. I also have the HDMI cord on hand right now I just don't know how I'd go about setting it up. I'd like to use synergy to control the desktop AND have it's output be on the laptop until my power supply arrives and I can fix my TV.

I am currently doing research to figure out what my Laptop can do to support 120Hz at 1080p on an Asus VG248QE 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor monitor. After doing some research, I've found that HDMI 1.4b, along with Display Port and DVI-D can all support 120Hz at 1080p, and with a DVI-D to HDMI 1.4b adapter, I should be able to get this.

My 750-247c has THREE (3) HDMI ports.   I've included a picture.  It has one in line with the DVI and Displayport (which I've label 1 and have a cable plugged in already), and two lower on the chasis, which came with removable, black plastic plugs in them.   (Labeled 2 and 3.) In all the documentation for the machine, including that on HP's website, it says it has only two HDMI ports, but gives no indication what the difference might be.   I would be grateful if someone could tell me for sure what each of these three HDMI ports are for and whether the capabiliy differs among them.  Is one connected to the graphics card and the others not, or vice-versa?   See picture.   Thanks!  Michael

I see the two HDMI ports that you are talking about, and they have  the black plugs in them. Here is what I think is going on: The Intel processor has a video graphic card built-in, and these two HDMI is what you will use if  no video card is installed. But, since there is a video card installed with HDMI, DVI and PD ports, HP decided to plug those little black plastic thing there. I am sure if you pull the video card out of the computer, and plug your HDMI cable on any of those two ports, you will see video.  By doing so,  I think the limitations are clearly understandable.

A:Is there any possibility of using two hdmi ports from my pc

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

A:VGA and HDMI Ports Not Working

Assuming the built in dispaly is working OK, then it does not make sense for a driver issue.  By stating "It appears the VGA and HDMI ports are not working" just what is happening when an external monitor or display is connected?  Are you looking in the right place to enable the second screen?Right click on a empty spot on the desktop and then pick "Screen resolution"  It should show the normal display as #1.  Click on "Detect", it should then show the extra display.  Click on the "new" display to set it up.

Over the past few years I've had most all of my  M4600  or other M series HDMI port refuse to put out a signal.  I've had several company visitors bring their Dell laptops in and if they are M series laptops will not communicate with our overhead projectors via HDMI. The projector simply says NO SIGNAL.  Yet on the same projector when I connect my E5450 it will project just fine.  This happens when using a TV using HDMI as well.
In all cases it SEES the projector or TV screen as a second monitor.  I've popped open the PROJECT app and told it to MIRROR the screens.  I can see the monitor add itself to DEVICE MANAGER when plugging in the HDMI cable and see it leave when unplugging it. This happens with Windows 7 and Windows 10.
I had a an old M4600's connected it to my TV.  It worked for months on Windows 10 then suddenly would no longer put out a signal over HDMI.  Again, I can see the TV by correct name in Device Manager when it's plugged in, I tell it to MIRROR or even EXTEND the desktop and nothing happens but NO SIGNAL on the TV. I pulled out an even older M4600 one that had been offline for about a year and it worked until MS did updates.  I went through the Dell updates and Windows updates and will no longer work - NO SIGNAL.

A few days ago I installed a USB 3.0 card (to be precise, this one: 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Controller Card - Free Shipping - DealExtreme). It uses the very common NEC ?PD720200 USB 3.0 controller. I installed the required drivers for Windows 7, and the card worked fine for the first day or so. but not since. Whenever I plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive, I get a false "This device can perform faster..." message, as if I had plugged the drive in a USB 2.0 port.

The external drive I am using is a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1130. It is definitely a USB 3.0 drive, and came with the required USB 3.0 cable. While the USB 3.0 card was working, I got full-speed transfers to the limit of the hard drive's ability, about 90-100 MB/s. Now I can only get USB 2.0 speeds (33-34 MB/s). Windows insists I have the drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port even though it is plugged directly into the USB 3.0 card.

Things I tried so far:
-rebooting and complete power cycle. No difference.
-plugging the drive into one port or the other. Also no difference.
-Looked in Device manager. No help there either. The controller is recognized as a USB 3.0 device is using the proper NEC drivers.

Other info that may be important:
-No overclocking settings in use.
-I made sure the cable was plugged in all the way. It's in as far as it can go, but the ports will still only act like USB 2.0 ports.

This is very frustrating. How do I fix it? I might as well throw th... Read more

Im going to be using it for my home with internet access. I'd like to change the administrator name and password along with deleting other user accounts but I seem to have problems doing so. He gave me his original User name and password to be able to access the computer and clean things out.

Will I have a problem using this computer at home is it was setup for a network system?
I'd like to get it back to basics so I can utilize as much of the Hard drive as possible, but I do not have the windows 7 disk.
Im not much of a computer Wiz but I can do pretty well with guidance and or the proper links, so please have patience with me.
Im also trying to figure out Windows paint on this computer so I can post pics.

A:Work Desktop computer on network to single home computer?

It would be best to re install windows on that pc.

What operating system is on it now ?

Does it have a COA sticker on it ?

Can you read the activation key on it ?

I want to set up dual monitors on my computer. I have two HDMI ports; one that is on my graphics card and one on my motherboard.

The GPU port works just fine. The motherboard HDMI port does not. I did some research and learned that I need to enable that in BIOS. When I tried to do this, I found out that my USB keyboard does not work for BIOS. I did further research on this and found that I can change the settings on my Universal Serial Bus controllers to enable my USB keyboard by unchecking the "use automatic settings" box, but that box is completely grayed out.

Help me out dudes. Any solution would be appreciated.

If you can get into the Bios try using the mouse otherwise you need to get a PS/2 keyboard which should work in the Bios.

Hey guys, hope your all well.So recently I got an extra display to plug into my hp envy 750-129ns so I can use an extended display. The problem is that the only 2 hdmi ports avalible are the ones located at the bottom, I think where the sound things are, and they don't do anything when I plug my display hdmi into them. My video card has only one hdmi port, and the other 3 are just DisplayPorts not hdmi. The screen and cable work fine as when I plug it into this it works. The problem is I need another port to plug my other display into.Is their any reason why these 2 extra hdmi ports are not working? The has a little plastic protector cap plugged into them. Are they just optional extensions that I'd have to get installed, Or am I missing some drivers? Thanks for any help,Alex

Hello, I recently obtained a T480s and would like to know if I can connect monitors to an USB-C port and the HDMI port at the same time. The user manual of the T480s explicitly states that the HDMI port won't work with the "left"/ first USB-C port simultaneously. However, will the HDMI port work with the second (Thunderbolt compatible) USB-C port? Thanks in advance

I bought a second hand gaming PC (i7 4770 RX480 win10) recently, the only way I can get any display to show on my monitor is through the HDMI port, it has three other display ports on the GPU, and HDMI/VGA/dvi on the motherboard.

I've checked using multiple monitors and two brand new cables and the only port that seems to send any signal is the HDMI in the graphics card.

Is this a drivers or config issue?

I have a win7 x64 computer with a geforce 260, dual dvi output. i got one hooked up to my computer monitor using dvi. and the secondary using dvi- to hdmi adaper and the hdmi cable hooked into my samsung 46" (model: LE46B530 with software version: 2009/10/07_002004). oh and i have tried with 2 different hdmi cables btw.

my samsung lcd tv shows 1920x1080p as does my computer monitor. I haven't screwed with any display settings in windows and DPI is default, as is the resolution the same on both. using dvi to vga adapter and hooked up to my tv vga port it displays everything perfectly. I have the latest nvidia drivers.

Should i just buy a new GFX hard with hdmi ports or is this mess fixable? I'm rather dissapointed since i poured in a pretty penny into this little debocle.

i added 2 pictures one of tv and the other of my computer, view settings are cloned so it shows the same on both, the tv has kind-of a "ghost picture", you see the weird white glow the letters have?

Confused. As you saying it works one way and not the other?

If so, (and assuming that the HDMI is the one having the issue) have you verified the resolution showing when using the HDMI and have you figured out if the DVI adapter you bought is actually the correct one for the video card (IOW _ are you using a 3rd party DVI to HDMI or the one that came with the card)?

I received my HP Envy 750-435st Desktop today (ordered from HP) and the HDMI ports did not work out of the box. I tried multiple cables which I verified worked with same monitor (HP Pavilion 27xw)  and another computer. I read on the forum that an older version of BIOS had killed HDMI for a lot of Pavillion users. I used HP Support Assist to update everything in my new computer. Bios updated to F15. HDMI ports still not recognized. I have to connect with an old VGA cable, but need the HDMI to work. Are there other options I can try?

I have an Inspiron 13 (7368) and I was wondering if the HDMI port and the usb-c port with DisplayPort would be able to output at the same time. I want to hook up my laptop to 2 external monitors, where one is connected via the HDMI port, and the other is connected through an hdmi to usb type c dongle. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or do I just need to buy a docking station? I wanted to see if I could just use the HDMI and USB-C ports on the laptop first in order to save a few dollars.

If I use both USB ports and the HDMI port at the same time I lose sound from the laptop. Neither of the USB ports are connected to headphones or external speakers. Is this to be expected or is there a setting I need to change?

Thanks

A:Inspiron 15 7569 loses sound when USB and HDMI ports are used

The HDMI ports are a sound output device.  If you have something plugged in which can produce sound you should hear it there.
Try opening the Playback devices window from the speaker icon on the taskbar.  You should see the HDMI listed and showing sound levels if actual sound is playing.  If you don't, look for any other device which may be showing changes in sound levels.  You may have to disable one type if it is getting your sound.

as the post states, are there such thing as video cards sending sound though it's HDMI or DVI output ports?

like for example...

an nVidia or ATI card providing sound through its HDMI (like a blu-ray player) or DVI outputs.

27er - it has 2 HDMI ports, one works great and is clear.  The other is fuzzy and distorted.  Same problem on both Windows 7 system and Windows 10 system.  VGA port works great.
