Microsoft Update Install issue

Q: Microsoft Update Install issue

Several updates failed to install. Every time I shutdown I get the message to "update and close or update and shutdown." I choose one or the other every time but to no avail. One was a cumulativeupdate, another was a definition update, and lastly a malicious software removal tool update. Any help to fix this would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

Recently Microsoft has been trying to update my software with a security update

{Security Update for Microsoft Office XP (KB921596)}

Unfortunately something is going wrong and I am told that Microsoft was unable to update the security update.

At the moment when I switch off my PC, the turn off button is showing the multicoloured shield next to it (meaning it will update before switching off)

I think it is trying to update the same security update as above.

The situation has been like this for maybe a fortnight now.

Please could you help me to sort the situation out.

Many thanks

Regards Richard Milner.

PS, My security software (Kaspersky Internet Security 2009) has been flashing up a message about Key logging… (what ever that is) whenever I click on & open up my media playing program InterVideo WinDVD 5….. Could this have anything to do with the aforementioned Microsoft Security update ?

My problem is the 3rd post on this thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-xp-support/148753-issues-microsoft-security-updates.html

First of all what sort of "update" is it, really. I have followed Microsoft's advice on how to fix this problem, the most helpful part was

"Try to run the program that did not start again. If the program starts and if you do not receive the error message in the "Symptoms of the problem" section, you are finished."

I have update 935448 but I am still getting Illegal system DLL relocation error on calc.exe and when I have tried to install Google chrome. This is no big problem really because I have a physical calculator and I have Firefox but I can see this becoming a bigger problem when I need to install some important software.

I do have Realtek HD audio manager but this is v5.10.0.5694 and runs fine.

To be honest I think this is a update conflict, Do you think it would be a good idea to remove all updates and start again from SP2?

Any other idea's would be great.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The first problem is that you referred us somewhere else to learn about your problem. I am having trouble following the thread you linked to and what you wrote here. I do not see the words you quoted anywhere in the third post that you referred us to. So instead of bouncing us between websites to learn your problem, just write everything we need to know here.

Second, the post you referred us to deals with XP Service Pack 2, and applied more than two years ago. Why aren't you using Service Pack Three?

I need some major help with the latest Windows Update (the set of patches that came out this Tuesday to help with the security issues), I think it is causing issues for my laptop PC. I'm not computer illiterate but I'mdefinitely nothing more than a beginner and this is starting to make me panic a little ^_^;

My laptop has been having major Startup and boot issues since the update. My laptop freezes and goes to a white-grey screen. The computer does start up - ie: the screen comes on (white screen, unless I am lucky enough to get a boot screen for a moment) the fans run, but it takes several attempts at turning it on and off again, and hitting either F12 or F8 (still not sure which one is the one that works) to get to a screen that allows me to repair the Startup and go back to a retore point. The last time this happened it also beeped at me however I would not be able to tell you what the code sounded like (I...panicked somewhat).

However, the restore point was made just after Windows downloaded the updates onto my comouter (I had automatic updates on), and I cannot shut down without my computer wanting to install the updates. So I'm stuck in an endless cycle of downloading these updates, then being forced to restore.

Can anyone help with either finding a way to stop my laptop installing these updates, or does anyone know a way to troubleshoot the updates themselves?

I have automatic update checked because the latest version of Norton Requires it. The problem I am having is that Microsoft.net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 won't install.
Because the service pack won't install it keeps popping up to install.

I checked on microsoft's website and they said :

SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft .NET Framework service packs on computers that have the .NET Framework 1.0 or the .NET Framework 1.1 installed, you receive one of the following error messages:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 (KB867461) cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB867460) cannot be installed because you have one or more hot fixes installed. Remove them and try again

CAUSE
This behavior occurs if you install security update MS05-004 before you try to install the .NET Framework service pack. MSE just had its real time protection turned on, as I apparently did not verify my Windows genuine status, even though I'm positive I did. I didn't see any button to run a check, so I tried to turn on real-time Security Essentials couldn't turn on real time-protection This operation returned because the timeout period expired. Click help for more information about this problem. Error code: 0x800705b4 So I didn't feel like dealing with this, and just decided to do an uninstall/re-install. When I tried THAT (via add/remove programs in control panel), I got this message: The Security Essentials Installation Wizard is missing a filter manager rollup package needed to complete the installation. To continue installing Security Essentials, you must first download the required package. (I click it, and nothing happens) I googled this problem, and found a possible solution on the Microsoft support forums, which was to do a Windows Update. So I try THAT, and even that won't even load, as I get THIS message: The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context. Talk about annoying. Help is appreciated, because I really don't know what to do now!

I dont usually receive problems from microsoft updates, but this one is getting on my nerves a bit. See, I am at a college in california, and there is this program called "Cisco Clean Access" which is like a toll booth to use the internet here. You have a student ID and a password.

for some reason, the campus administrators changed Cisco Clean Access so that it requires everyone to update their computers, mainly PC people. I just got my desktop up and running after installing 2 new GPU's and a PSU, and am now updating it. I have the updates, but one of them is giving me some lip! here....

"Updates were unable to be successfully installed.

The following updates were not installed:
Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB929969)"

I have it downloaded, and click to install it, but it just wont budge. I tried express install, but to no avail. I tried custom install, again, to no avail. If anyone is familiar with this issue or wants to give me advice, I would greatly appreciate that.

Thanks!

I can't update the microsoft.net framework to 4.5.2 or 4.6.1.
I've tried a clean boot, the microsoft.net framework repair tool and windows update repair tool. The update repair tool fixed 3 issues and after doing so showed that there was no framework update for my pc. As soon as i began to manually download it however,
i then got a popup saying there were updates (surprise surprise, it was .net framework finally coming to its senses). And of course it didn't mean squat, the update still fails.
On further attempts of various methods I did notice that the .net framework version 4.5.2 fails to install, while the 4.6.1 will "rollback" its installation, although this doesn't seem to have any effects ill or otherwise.

Hello
I have windows xp sp 2 running. I did have xp sp 3 installed and running, but took my system back through a system restore point because I thought maybe the new SP 3 download was causing this issue.

Every single time I get this update (i think it is KB893090..) and try to install it, it will freeze my system and I have to reboot. I have tried manually installing it from the website and through Windows Automatic Update and no matter which way I choose it will not install properly.

It will initialize and then just stay on the screen saying OVERALL PROGRESS of the download, with no progress ever showing, no green bar ever appearing..the screen will never change or give me any errror messages, my computer just freezes and will stay like that until I reboot it through the power button. I can't even use the shutdown method.

I am running Comodo Pro Firewall, AVG 8.0 free...I also have Spybot S and D and SpywareGuard on my system
Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Microsoft to issue emergency Windows update for processor security bugs
Microsoft is issuing a rare out-of-band security update to supported versions of Windows today. The software update is part of a number of fixes that will protect against a newly-discovered processor bug in Intel, AMD, and ARM chipsets.

Microsoft has finally fixed the freezing issue in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Last month, we reported that many users were experiencing freezing issues on their PCs after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Microsoft later confirmed the issue, stating that it was impacting a "small number" of users, and posted workarounds until a fix could be made available.

The problem usually involved a system freeze after logging in, which rendered the device unresponsive. Microsoft stated that this occurred due to the apps and operating system being installed on separate drives. Now, after nearly one month, the company has announced that it has finally resolved the issue.

While the update on its original Microsoft Answers forum thread isn't quite as extensive, the company has clarified that the Windows Update which was released on August 31 contains a fix for the freezing issue. Microsoft also stated that users who uninstalled the Anniversary Update because of the problem can now revert to it using Windows Update Assistant, or by going to the Windows 10 download page and clicking on "Update Now".

With that being said, the company also mentioned that if you're still experiencing freezing issues even after installing the update, you should try the following methods:

Option 1: If you have a second administrator account on the PC that you can sign into, please do so and install the latest Windows 10 update, released on August 31st, 2016. After installin... Read more

Notified that 3 automatic updates were available to be installed. Two of the three were installed just fine but (KB943552) which is a Junk EMail Filter update will not install. Checked via Google and this is a common problem but with an incredibly complex fix of the registry. I do have Outlook as part of the Office Suite but do not use it. I can live without the update but I am constantly reminded that updates are ready, etc. Any way to at least make the icon not appear other than to opt for no automatic updates? I would like to install it correctly. Yes I did use a registry cleaner but cannot restore at this point since I have no idea when in the past 2 weeks it was done.

I have two Office 2007 updates already downloaded in Windows XP that constantly fail to install. The updates are both "Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System" KB969613 and KB973704.

I have followed steps to delete downloaded update files as follows:
1) Stop Automatic Updates service (services.msc)
2) Browse to %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete all files (incl. hidden)

Unfortunately, even after I do that, these updates appear to still be downloaded and waiting to be installed. Even if I tell Update "Don't show me these updates again" and then restore those updates, they are STILL already downloaded. The error I get is simply "The following updates were not installed."

What directory are Office updates downloaded to? I'm tired of the yellow shield constantly telling me that updates are ready!

Thanks in advance.

Microsoft released yesterday a Windows update to fix driver issues with USB devices introduced in the February 2018 Patch Tuesday security updates.

More precisely, Microsoft has released KB4090913 to address bugs introduced by KB4074588. The update is for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update users only ?Windows 10 version 1709.

The update is available via the built-in Windows Update mechanism, so users only have to go to the Windows Update settings panel and start a scan for new updates.

If for any reasons the update doesn't show up, users can manually download and install the proper package from the Microsoft Update Catalog portal, here.

Microsoft describes KB4090913 as follows:

Addresses an issue in which some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard, or mouse, stop working. This may occur when the Windows Update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.
This is nowhere near the first time that a Windows update broke local drivers. Windows users are already used to the dance of death when it comes to Windows updates, and many have at least once in their lifetime dealt with a broken update that crashed computers into BSOD screens or broken apps or OS features.Click to expand...

You may want to check, but on my Vista I don't see any new add-on and I don't even have C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack folder. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010...lbar-update.ars As part of its regular Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released an update for its various toolbars, and this update came with more than just documented fixes. The update also installs an add-on for Internet Explorer and an extension for Mozilla Firefox, both without the user's permission. As you can see in the Windows Update screenshot above, Microsoft does not indicate that the update will install anything for either browser. It's also not really clear what the installed extension actually does.

Microsoft/Windows Update works when you let it "automatically" install updates - i.e. Click on "Turn Off".

It fails when I try to do it manually.

NOTE: It is only the install that fails - "A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being downloaded or installed". I have no problem selecting and downloading updates.

I have tried a number of ideas posted here and elsewhere. But, so far, nothing has resolved the issue. This is not a result of a repair, serivice pack update, etc. I tried Dial-a-fix also, but it did not work either.

Method 2:
You may also try to download the updates in clean boot state and check if that helps in resolving the issue.
Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. If yes, you may have to contact the program manufacturer for any updates or uninstall and re-install the program.

Hello-

I tried to update the service pack 2 a while back, I think I may have shut it down before it properly installed. My computer works fine. But when I go to shut it down, it keeps asking me to install 16 updates. Which I have done many times, but the updates never seem to take.

Also my Windows update is not working. When I try to use it I get the following message:
"Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not currently running. You may need to restart your computer."

I have restarted my computer many times, also I have gone into services and it says Windows update service is 'started' it's start up type is 'Automatic (delayed)'. I have stopped the service and restarted it, but that does not seem to help.

Any help is much appreciated, Thank you

A:Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter -from windows update Install failed - Where can I find this so I can retry to re-install - mobile device does not connect

Your best option may be to open device manager (with device connected) and uninstall any related device, making sure the 'Delete driver software for this device' is checked.Once you have done this, unplug your device, uninstall WMDC 6.1 and reboot your machine. Then follow the instruction on my first reply, this should sort it for you.If anyone is helpfull, please click the 'Vote as helpfull' icon.

The laptop is a Toshiba SATELLITE U920T which came with windows 8 originally. It was upgraded to 10 during the time it was free and hasn't had any issues updating until now.

Most threads about that error leads to an IDT audio driver which isn't on this system I have a realtek audio driver installed. Tried uninstalling it but it doesn't seem to uninstall from device manager. The system has 30+GB free so that shouldn't be the issue.

I suspect the disk space error from the install media is due to what ever is causing the 0x8007001f code to be given during updates.

A fresh install isn't an option as there were programs on here that came from schooling and I wouldn't be able to get them back after fresh install.

I also noticed there are probably about 4 of those recovery partitions from all the previous upgrades not sure if that could be somehow related.

If anyone has an idea about this or anything to try it would be much appreciated.

It's now preventing me from running certain games and applications that require an up to date windows install. In general it's probably not good either ! I can't install the .NET framework updates for SP2. It seems to work, but then when I log back in it always asks me to update the same ones. I'm not sure what's going on or if there is a way to manually install them? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey people,
So recently I've had a lot of trouble, had a bad hard drive, now it's been replaced and I have reinstalled Vista Home Premium x64. On first start up it says there are 72 updates for my computer. When I okay installation it installs them all except about 5, then it restarts and shows a screen saying that it's installing the updates. Then the wait begins, I fell asleep waiting for it last night, 2 hours down and still no movement.
Is there a way I can just install them a few at a time?
I think it's hanging out cos it can't take that long to apply the changes, can it?

ED

A:Fresh Install Windows update issue

Edhorny,

I recently had similar troubles with updates. Your computer is set to update automatically. If you change this setting to just inform you that there are available updates, then when you view those available you can uncheck and/or check the updates you want to install at any one time.

Once I did that and now only update a handful at a time, I have not had any problems since. Also, I have found out quickly on this forum that other people periodically have problems with a patricular update so it is usually worth your while to investigate the individual updates before you install them. It could save you some headaches.

Hope this helps a bit.
