XPS 15 9550 Instantly Turning Off When Bumped or Right Arrow Key is Pressed.

Q: XPS 15 9550 Instantly Turning Off When Bumped or Right Arrow Key is Pressed.

My Dell XPS 9550 has a problem which makes the laptop unusable on a soft surface such as a lap or a bed. If the underside of the laptop is slightly bumped or nudged, the laptop will shut off immediately with no warning. The laptop will also instantaneously shut off when the right arrow key is pressed with usual typing force (even on a hard surface such as a desk). This doesn't happen with any other key on the laptop, however if the area just below the on button is bumped, the laptop will again, immediately shut off. I was wondering if anyone has had or knows of an issue similar to this and what might be causing this to happen?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:it seems like down arrow key is pressed and hold automatically and tapping on touchpad do not work

I have the same problem. I press the UP ARROW key once the laptop completes booting. This solved the down key lock problem. I started hearing the beep sounds when I upgraded to windows 10. When I went back to windows 7 the beeping stopped during boot up but the down key problem exists. I am thinking of downgrading to XP to see if the noise problem and the keyboard works. I hope its not due to my ram upgrade.

Hello, I'm a Dell XPS 15 9550 user since last year. When i'm using it on battery power, even when it's 100% charged, and I decide to use some medium-work applications like Lightroom, Photoshop or even worse Premiere, my computer instanty turns off, as if the battery ran out. Indeed when I try to turn it on it keeps telling me that the battery is out (usually it is right at 1% or even 0%) but the funny thing is that after turning it back on I can use it right away without any other intermission or problem! I can even use those heavy power application that sent it to sleep a second before! It's like the computer can't recognize how much battery percentage I have, even if it's full.
Obviously, my premium support is expired.Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Hi guys,

Recently purchased a refurbished PC (last week) and have come across my first BSOD. I'm really hoping it's just a one off and not a sign of things to come. Sorry i don't know the code of the BSOD.

Basically what happened is, i was using Sony Vegas (a video editing software), put the computer to sleep (for around 10mins i think) and when i turned it back on i was instantly met with the BSOD. I really don't have any more info to divulge than that.

I've been told my PSU is underpowered for this machine (405w) and i am currently in the process of purchasing a 650w PSU. Just throwing that out there, not sure if that has anything to do with the BSOD.

Spec

Processor Intel? Core? i7-2600
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
RAM 8 GB

Sorry not sure how old the hardware is, as i said above i bought a refurb.

All help much appreciated, thanks.

I still see some remnants of Kaspersky on your system: Removal tool for Kaspersky Lab products may be necessary.

Take care of Kaspersky first. Having remnants of security software can cause many different crash errors because it will cause conflicts with current security software.

Hi guys,

Recently purchased a refurbished PC (last week) and have come across my first BSODs. Sorry i don't know the code of the first BSOD but the second one is the following:

BCCode: 1000007e
BCP1: FFFFFFFFC0000096
BCP2: FFFFF8800562914C
BCP3: FFFFF8800335B3E8
BCP4: FFFFF8800335AC40
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

Basically what happened is, i was using Sony Vegas (a video editing software), put the computer to sleep (for around 10mins i think) and when i turned it back on i was instantly met with the BSOD. I really don't have any more info to divulge than that.

I constantly use sleep mode and the majority of the time it turns on totally fine, the BSOD has only happened twice (yesterday and the day before). Since yesterday i have had it in sleep mode numerous times and have had no problem.

Spec

Processor Intel? Core? i7-2600 (3.40 Ghz, 8 MB Cache)
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
RAM 8 GB
Graphics card AMD HD6670
2GB dedicated memory
Hard drive 2 TB

Sorry not sure how old the hardware is, as i said above i bought a refurb.

Reports attached.

All help much appreciated, thanks.

Edit: I'm not entirely sure but it's also worth mentioning that the first BSOD i think occurred on the same day that i installed a load of windows updates. Not sure if that has any significance, but thought i'd throw that in there.

I would like to know how to keep the XPS 15 9550 from resizing open windows at various events, such as turning off the display after a few minutes of inactivity, lid close, going to sleep/hibernate, when changing from AC to battery and vice versa...
I would also like to keep windows open on the external display in case it disconnects for a while, the way I had it set up on my previous Lenovo laptop. Currently they are all moved to the primary window in case of a disconnect - and not only an actual disconnect but also upon entering or waking from sleep etc. It is a pain having to redistribute 10+ windows back to the external display...

Hello everyone! I recently got a 11 inch Yoga and although I'm liking it so far, the right shift key is also bothering me. I tried remapping the keyboard using KeyTweak first, uninstalled it, then SharpKeys. Although both do solve switching the keys around, both also lose the ability to scroll up continuously by pressing and holding the newly-mapped up-arrow key. It just scrolls up one line at a time, or moves the cursor up one line at a time, and so forth. Do I need to do something extra to make this work? Although I know it might seems such a little thing to complain about, I just like my things to work like they're supposed to  Unfortunately, if I can't get this to work, this might be a return...

While playing a racing game when I hold a key to accelerate (whatever it is, tried many) and when I press second one to turn, once for a while - sometimes 1 minute after start, sometimes 5 - it's getting interrupted for around a half of a second (so I drive straight for this short period of time).
I have tried to disable as many services as I can, turned off anything I could and I'm still getting it, installed all drivers I have found

I think you should look at getting high speed internet. For a few bucks more a month you get faster, internet without using your phone line, and you never have to worry about getting kicked off again.

As far as dial-up try picking a different access number. Dialup users risk getting kicked off frequently no matter what their ISP is.

Also, I keep getting these Aurora pop up ads, like spyware or something. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? I have brought my computer to the computer repair shop 3 times and each time all they do is reformat everything back to the begining!!! Aggrivating!!!

I just got an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop from a friend. It's just a few months old. I have restored it to how it was when purchased originally. Before restoring it and still currently, I cannot stay connected to the internet.

Computer is Acer Aspire 3680
OS: Windows Vista Basic
Wireless adapter: atheros AR5005G
IP address 192.168.1.66
Verizon DSL
Modem/Router: Actiontec GT704WG
WEP

When viewing the available networks, sometimes ours will shop up with 100% and sometimes with just 20% which doesn't make sense since it's right here in the house. I tried connecting to the neighbor's (he gave me his code) and it connected but also kicked me off. Sometimes the other networks in the area show up with stronger signals than ours. We have a 2nd desktop that connects just fine with a Linksys router.

Let me kow if you need any other info to help with this connection problem.

I am shifting your topic from the Web-browsing forum to the Am I Infected forum where you can get the kind of assistance you need.

In order to assist you, we need some additional information:

What is your operating system: Windows XP, Vista, etc.?

What security programs do you have installed? Please name them.

Are you experiencing other issues with your computer: pop-ups, redirections etc.? Please describe as specifically as possible. Also, please describe your "bumping off" more clearly. What precisely happens? Do you get redirected to another site, get a blank page, or something else?

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

If you connect to the router by cable - does it work OK

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am really sorry about sentence structure, I have to type this on my phone. My old computer had issues with freezing and crashing, so I bought parts from online. The obly things I didnt replace were the SSD, the HDD, and the optical drive. I would get the parts list but its on my computer.

I had issues when I first got it. For maybe a month or two, I got a ton of bsod errors, the ones I remember are IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, something about kernels... But there were a lot of different ones. Every time I tried to look up how to fix one, of get a different one. I assumed it was a driver issue since I hadn't wanted to completely start over by wiping my hard drive, but all drivers were up to date. I reinstalled windows, and that failed, as well as running memtest and trying quite a few other things. Then one day it stopped; I don't know what fixed it; it had crashed one bight while idling and I hadn't tried any fixes after it, but no blue screen, although the sound sort of glitches on a very regular basis.

Tonight I was reaching for something, and I hit a few wires that were connected to the back of the pc. The only two that seemed out of place were the audio jack and the Ethernet, but I decided to reseat all the cables just in case. I got a blue screen righr as I started adjusting the HDMI cable(note that I still had a display until then).

Since then, I've been back to varying bluescreens, only unlike when I first built this computer, it prevents getting on... Read more

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to check if there is any issue with the functionality of those keys.
See if it is loosely in place.

It is best advise to have technical support check it for an appropriate recommendation so that you can decide how to proceed.

Initially all my searches all got redirected on Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Then my Mcafee software stopped working and updating. Any anti-virus, rootkit, malware software that I try to download gets disabled and will not run. Including HijackThis, Malwarebytes, Superspyblocker, Panda, etc etc. Windows update is also not functioning properly.

Then the virus disabled Internet Explorer, and will not let me re-load it. Currently using Firefox while it lasts.

DDS will not run.

Gmer will not run.

Have tried different download sites for both and tried to rename files. The system will not let me rename the files or if it does just disables them when they run anyway.

Downloaded Avira software which will actually scan my system sometimes and does identify a virus but gets disabled when it tries to deal with the virus.

It says that my cngaudit.dll file in windows/system32/ is actually TR/Pakes.npx and my system will not let me delete or rename the file.

I have removed my paid subscription mcafee software because it will not scan or update, just running with just the Avira evaluation software right now. I have tried to remove some of the disabled anti-virus programs but the system will not let me access all of them.

My question is; I had an old Xerox (3 years) copier hooked up to my laptop without any problems. I purchased a HP1210V Printer /Copier/Scanner. The confusing part is that I can use the P S C until I get on-line. When I get on-line and try to use it I get bumped offline. It works fine offline. I am somewhat literate to tech. I'll try whatever anyone suggests. I should add and don't hold it against me, I use aol which I have not called just so they can say its not our problem or something like that. I thought it might be not enough memory but it says it only requires 8MB to operate and I have a total of 64MB. I might need more but before i go and do that I wanted some opinions from all the techies. I trust you guys more than the local shops.

Thanks for your help...

If I barely even move my computer, it is almost guaranteed to freeze up. There are no loose connections, but this keeps happening!

What would make my PC vulnerable enough to freeze everytime it gets moved just a little?

Another way it freezes is if I unplug the vga or s-video cable from the Radeon card. immediate seizure.

Thanks for any tips or advice!

About a week or two ago I uninstalled flight simulator 2004 from my laptop to reinstall it. Everything has started from there. First difference I noticed was that some/most flight simulator textures were not loading and aircraft liveries were also not (please see this thread for pictures: http://www.flightsimworld.com/forums...owtopic=147308).
I have tried fixing these problems with little effect since then but since yesterday my laptop has been really weird. firstly on some programs it says: Runtime error '429': ActiveX component can't create object. second problem I've had is that suddenly my photoshop license is not valid when it should be?? and finally coming to do a scan tonight, McAfee had the exact simptoms as the following video (but without the bit around about 0:48)

My Toshiba Tecra M5 freezes whenever I bump it, at first the freezings were rare, but now it freezes even if I lift my laptop off a desk or hold it in my lap! by the screen freezing, the whole screen freezes, and the only thing I have noticed that doesn't freeze when I bump my laptop is the blinking "|" cursor while the computer is starting up, sometimes if it has recently been bumped, when I re-start the computer it has a blank screen and the fan spins but there is no other sign of my computer working, so I figured out if I hit my computer it bumps the loose part or solder connection back in place, please help me figure out which piece of hardware is loose.

A:My Laptop Freezes or Locks Up when bumped

Good luck with that.
It would be worth checking the HD connection and re-seating the memory, but that's a complex little beast and finding such a problem could get expensive.
Whatever you do, be sure you get a backup of all your files right away.

I see the SSD HD in BIOS
Have run startup repair 5 times
What do I do next?

A:Laptop with Win 7 64 got bumped & now 'Missing OS' at boot

You're sure it's an SSD? Not a regular hard drive? A hard knock would cause a regular hard disk to scratch the platters on the drive, causing data loss. I find it hard to believe that a bump would cause an SSD to malfunction in that way.

Perhaps if it is an SSD the SSD was knocked loose from its connector?

Hello everyone. I am nearly fed up with my Dell Inspiron 1525 I have only had for about 7 months now. Not only has it started falling apart on me (by this, I mean screws falling out, screen loosening up, left-click mouse button getting stuck and eventually falling off, CD drive cover falling off, bottom of the casing falling off because of lack of screws, etc.) but I have also experienced my hard drive failing on me twice in a two-week interval, which was about a month and a half ago. Now, I have another problem: It rebooted on me the other night.. and when I try to boot up, it tells me that something isn't recognized in the system and won't boot up, and sometimes it tells me that a "recent change in hardware might have created the issue" or something of the sort. I'm not sure what the problem is, but when I finally am able to boot up, I can't move my laptop or it will BlueScreen and perform a memory dump and won't reboot up for many of the times that I try to start it.

When I am able to get onto my user screen and start up all of the applications that I use, a bubble will pop up saying that Microsoft has recovered from an unexpected shutdown, and that Windows can check online for a solution. It never finds a solution when I tell it to. I click details and it shows a bunch of techie codes or something that I can't understand. I'm not sure what they mean, but maybe they will mean something to you all.

Dear EightForums,
I have received several bsod during the last couple of months, they're all attached in the zip file.
It started as I remember a while ago when I just pushed my computer a bit on a flat surface and it crashed. Since then it has been sensitive to sudden movements or if you bump into it -> bsod. Sometimes pressing the left ctrl+shift buttoms together with a letter makes it crash too and i have noticed that moving the screen can make it crash as well. Also it crashes at random seemingly.
Thanks in advance, please let me know if further information is needed.

Gringo, Per your PM, here's the new topic. I'd appreciate any help I can get. I searched the forums and found a couple of answers, but those solutions didn't work for me - the hotfix that is suggested in the posts is already installed as part of a SP that's been installed (the posts were from 2007).I have two workstations that are WinXP-SP3 machines on a SBS2003 network.Errors (more or less similar, not entirely identical in the details) pop up intermittently, not always immediately, but sometimes. Both machines also have problems with search engines in web browsers (Firefox and IE7): when clicking on a link from Google or other search engines, instead of the requested page, another search site comes up with search results. They've been working around this problem by copying the link and pasting it into the address field. We have Symantec Endpoint Protection ver 11.0 (with anti virus & threat detection running), also SuperAntiSpyware registered edition running real time protection, and also Ad-Aware. I've run AVG Free Rescue CD full scans (boot to Linux) and nothing malicious is detected. I've run MBAM and sometimes it finds and cleans things, other times it finds nothing (I've seen references to "whitesmoke toolbar" at various times (in the MBAM scan).I'll just focus on one of the two affected machines in this topic (unless you tell me address that one too). Hi, I hope you can help me with this.

I'm running XPSP2 with IE7

I had this problem for 2 months when the DSL was first hooked up, and it was found to be something installed incorrectly in the outside wiring. The I was fine for 2 years. In December, it started up again, and neither Verizon, nor Linksys have been able to figure out what's going on.

I'll be online just fine, and then I click a link or try to go to another webpage, and I get no response... and then I get the dreaded "Internet Explorer Can Not Display the Web Page". I can be on for 5 minutes, 2 hours, or 3 days. there's no warning. And all the lights on the modem and the router stay on like they're supposed to.

Verizon has sent me a new modem twice. And Linksys has sent me two new routers, and still the same thing. I posted this on the Hijackthis Help Forum, thinking I had a virus, in December, but Ried could find nothing wrong. (Actually, I've just posted there again, because now I DO have a virus, but I know that is NOT the cause of THIS issue.)

I turn off the router, or the modem and router, or just the modem (the router is not hooked up now), and turn it back on, and I can get back online. And then I'm online again... until it happens again. Which is usually in 10-15 minutes. Probably 30x a day. So frustrating!

I discovered this weekend that Firefox still opens and I can get online that way. And today I realized I can still also use Netscape. I don't know why I never tested that be... Read more

I have a Dell Latitude E7270, less than 1 year old. It freezes when bumped. I've seem to have isolated the problem to the RAM module or connector. Upon re-seating the RAM, computer worked fine for some time. Eventually the problem re-appeared and can no longer be fixed by re-seating the RAM.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Can it be isolated to the connector-to-motherboard vs. in the RAM module itself? I'm thinking of buying another RAM module to verify this potential root cause.
Could it be a defective RAM connector with plastic flash or bad pins?
Thanks for any ideas,

I manage a network of 3 servers and 20 users. It is a busy law office. We recently added the third server and moved our apps to it. Shortly after the move, we were comprimised by an attack which someone used our systems to setup an outgoing email system. We shut them down and closed all access for this. We have firewall, vpns to remotes and cisco smart switch. Cisco smart switch is maxed out at 99% capacity and the network will bog down and then just dump everyone off the network. It actually resets the tcpip stack on each machine when the network dumps them. They are able to reconnect by closing and repopening application, but work is lost that is not saved. I have been trying to capture what is going on, but I need help locating the system that is deluging our network with traffic. Help if you can. Cicso cannot give info on ports due to 99% usage.

Question:

Anyone ever encountered this problem?

Excel spreadsheet, when clicking to save "icon" or "file / save" -

the entire screen goes black, a blue DOS window pops up with options... one of which is to R = Reconstruct. R is pressed on the keyboard.. prompt to c=continue is requested, then DOS screen goes away and Excel opens back up to the "saved and unaltered" spreadsheet. Everything saves as it should (or appears to) and closing is normal.

What causes this and how is it corrected?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
