Can I upgrade from Intel Matrix Storage to Rapid Storage?

Q: Can I upgrade from Intel Matrix Storage to Rapid Storage?

I currently have the Intel ICH9M E/M Sata AHCI Controller, driver version 8.9.0.1023 dated 4 June 2009. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and if so, what's the latest version I can safely upgrade to, and do I need to make any BIOS changes?

As usual any help is really appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have an Intel ICH9R controller and am using the same driver version. Was not able to find a newer one. I think the newer drivers aren't compatible anymore.

While installing all the drivers on a new OS re-install on my Dell XPS 435T, I noticed on my Drivers CD from Dell a program called Intel Matrix Storage Manager. What is this program and do I need to install it? I am not running any type of RAID configuration. I have a total of 3 hard drives installed, but the extra hard drives are simply for additional storage. My question is, should I install this program even though I have no RAID, or can I leave it off my system? Do I gain any benefit from installing it?

A:What is Intel Matrix Storage Manager

You don't need to install it.

If it's already installed, you can disable it from automatically loading and running.

Everytime my power goes off and my computer shuts down I get an icon at the bottom of my screen that Intel Matrix Storage Console is doing a volume verification and repair. I look at what is going on and it says View hard drive and volume status and says all hard drives are okay. Under array it says status is verifying and repairing with so much complete and no errors found.

This happens every single time my power flicks off and takes around 2 hours to complete. No errors have every been found when it is over. The computer runs so slowly while this is going on it is pretty much unusable. I don't know anyone else that has this problem and they all seem to be able to use their computer right away when the power flicks.

I certainly want any errors to be fixed, but this is very annoying and just wondering why my computer seems to do this, but I have never heard of anyone else going through this.

Thanks

A:Intel Matrix Storage Console

It happens because your computer powers off unexpectedly, the solution is to prevent the computer from being powered off unexpectedly and to prevent damage to the data, file system, and hardware in the computer. That is easily done with a UPS/Baterry backup such as one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...MATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=ups&x=0&y=0

Hi,

I am planing to upgrade with Intel SSD drive, but in BIOS at the moment I dont have AHCI option (only IDE or RAID). Would AHCI mode will be available in BIOS if I install Intel Matrix Storage?

As I see from PC Wizard 2010:

Quote:
General Information:
NorthBridge: Intel P31/P35
SouthBridge: 82801IR (ICH9R) LPC Interface Controller

Functionality:
SATA AHCI Enabled: Yes

AHCI option I can have only missing drivers or software at the moment? Thanks

Hi tomas, you motherboard must have support for AHCI function, can you specify model and brand, maybe you need to update the bios.

Hi,
I'm on the latest build 7600 (Supposodely RTM, and have installed it as Windows 7 Ultimate), however i need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager so that i can install the AHCI controller so i can access my other drives. However when i launch the setup it says

"The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.
Setup will now exit."

I assume this is because of the version being different to that of the RC, and it doesnt recognise it as a viable operating system to install the drivers on.

My system spec is fine, Q6600, 8gb ram, nvidia gtx260.

I was just wondering if anyone knows a way in cmdline to get past the installshield requirements, or a way to install the drivers? I have access to the iaAHCI.inf and iaAHCI.cat, however when i right click onn the iaAHCI.inf and press install it fails.
I know there are other ways to install it but i just dont remember them.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated as i really need the backups i have on the other drives!

Thanks,
Matt

Have you tried the newest Intel Matrix Manager? Else right click on the controller in the device manager and select update driver and point to the inf file.

I have enabled RAID on my HDD and in the BIOS and finally put in a SSD 120gb that works. Now I don't know how to actually run the Intel Rapid Storage utility that I did do once before.

I downloaded the files from Microsoft but like so many Windows 7 (64-bit) files there's no instruction of where to put them. A self installation would've been handy.

So does anyone know how to set up IRS inside Windows 7? It's something to do with Administrative Tools but there's nothing showing in that menu when I go to Disk Management.

Sounds simple but everyone seems to assume you set this thing up automatically.

This is the setup as it shows from boot up.

I managed to find the setup program on this link https://downloadcenter.intel.com/De...apid+Storage+Technology+(Intel®+RST)&lang=eng

After reboot I now get a separate Intel Rapid Storage Technology item on my menu but I can't see any command to accelerate the main C: drive using the SSD.

Anything I need to do extra?

A:Intel Rapid Storage

I now get this screen using the program:

You can see it's BLANK!

What am I doing wrong as there are no commands to accelerate the main HDD?

Welcome to Seven Forums LJFENNELL. This is a laptop problem from what I was able to see. I dealt with this for a girlfriends laptop a few years ago. In researching I did find it was just an annoyance since the popup said everything was ok as in your picture. You can right click taskbar, click on properties, taskbar tab, customize in notification area, and set it to always hide, that will remove the annoyance at least.

My girlfriend had a Dell, and the first thing we did was a BIOS update to the latest version, as people on the forums were having sucess with that. It didn't work for us, so we ended up updating the Intel Matrix Storage Console. THAT did the trick.

For you, I'd suggest go to start menu, see if Intel Matrix Storage Console is listed in all programs, click on the help/about listing and see if you have the latest version available for your PC. Dell had a newer version listed for her PC, and uninstalling, and reinstalling new version fixed it. Good luck, A Guy

I recently reinstalled Vista 64 bit on my Gateway P-6860 FX laptop and everything ran smoothly except when I went to install the Intel Matrix Manager Driver. It said that the system does not meet the requirements for the software and that the installation could not finish. Obviously the laptop meets the requirements for it, considering the Manager came pre-loaded on the machine.

How can I fix this? I've tried installing the driver via the Gateway Recovery Center, but even though it said the driver installed successfully, the Intel Matrix Storage Manager program is still nonexistant.
Thanks.

Hey guys, have any of you manage to install Intel Matrix Storage Manager? Everytime I try to install it it says my computer does not meet the minimum requirements. Without it I can't switch from IDE to AHCI for my SSD...

A:[Q] Installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager

Firstly I assume you had AHCI enabled in the bios before installing Windows 8.

So, just try installing the matrix driver in compatibility mode with Windows 7 or Vista : To install a driver/program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with windows 7 / vista etc. - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

If that doesn't work post back what controller is installed in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

I have this installed but i have disabled the service and tray icon from running at boot

I can only find conflicting info about this, it seems to be for RAID setups only but other might suggest those with single drives can benefit from it running with NCQ and AHCI mode ... I have my BIOS and Windows in AHCI mode with my Vertex 2E SSD and Seagate 7200.12 SATA-3 HDD (noticable improvement at boot once enabled)

do I need the IRS service running to get any performance boost? or is just having it installed enough? it seems fast enough without it but thought I would ask - and if I DO have it running I wont need the tray icon to load would i?

The problem I am having is that when I try to start the software in Windows I get an error message that says the software is already running and cannot be started again.

I built a new system for a relative using the H87-G43 MSI board. I have set up a SSD 64 GB to be used as a Caching disk using Intel's Rapid Storage Technology.

I followed the set up procedure which required a BIOS change to RAID Mode before the OS was installed. So I have one 500 GB drive that is accelerated and the 64 GB SSD that is being used as the caching drive.

No errors or BSOD's when booting, I had to enable the drive in the Intel console for this(it sees the drive just fine) to work. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology(Intel SRT) really improves boot times over just using the mechanical drive. It is not a performance issue I am having just a reporting issue I think.

The question I have is about how Windows is reporting the drives in Device manager and computer management.

Windows 7 shows the information below in bold.

In device manager only the 500 GB drive is shown and it is shown as a SCSI device.
In computer management only the 500 GB drive is shown.
Both drives are shown in the Intel management console for this technology.

The computer is running fine and zippy, I am just a bit concerned about the 500GB drive (SATA) being reported as SCSI. Funny I downloaded SPECCY and it shows it as a SCSI drive as well using a 40 pin cable.

Any help, thoughts, ideas, or experience with this technology that could enlighten me would be very helpful.

Thanks

The next day I was on the other pc and after I used it for a few hours, suddenly a program wouldn't open. I finally restarted and as I might have expected, there was an update being installed. (I've had that same senario happen other times so I wan't surprised, ie, things quite working normally and then you find Microsoft has pushed out an update that requires a reboot but doesn't tell you.) But then the trouble began. The update took awhile and then the login screen came up, but every time I tried to enter my password, the screen would freeze and it would restart. After about 5 repeats of this, I got a black screen that said Starting Automatic Recovery and then it went to a pale blue screen that said that WRkrn.sys was corrupt or missing and I needed a disk or a system administrator. I couldn't remember if I had created a recovery disk or where I had put it. I ran to the other computer to create one, but when I started it up, the exact same thing happened. I called Microsoft and they wanted me to start them up in Safe mode, but I couldn't. So then they had me create an ISO image. I am sure it was of the latest build. I tried to repa... Read more

I have a Desktop PC with intel 975X chipset and a laptop with Intel x3100 chipset. And both use them need ( I think) Intel Matrix Storage manager program from intel, but after installing it, both HDDs on my desktop and laptop squeak when a program accesses the hard drive intensly.
Before my HDDs were producing just normal cluck cluck cluck sounds (like on old HDDs but not that noisy). Should I be worried about it?
Desktop: 2x160Gb WD Sata II in Raid 0, 7200rmp, 8mb
Laptop: 1x120Gb 5200rmp, 8mb
Thanks

A:HDD squeaking after installing Intel Matrix Storage Manager

If you were to uninstall the driver, does the squeaking stop entirely? This is odd. I'm not sure if this could be due to the hard drive attempting to cache data more often. Doesn't make a lot of sense. I will google this and see if I find any other reports of something like this.

Hi,
I am going to be getting 2 new WD10EALS drives in the next day or so. My plan was to put them in raid using the onboard ICH10R controller on my mobo (an ASUS Sabertooth X58). I had wanted to run WDTLER to turn TLER on, but after reading some reviews it seems I might not be able to as it is reported WD disabled TLER on these drives completely.

Im curious if there is a way to change the timeout for the drives in the matrix storage controller? So if I do have an issue my raid won't die (I'll be using these drives in raid 0 for gaming only). I dont care about the data, I just don't want to have to go thru the hassle of reinstalling the games should a drive get dropped from the array. I am thinking about getting a wd green 2tb drive for backups but just curious if there is a way to change timeout via the controller.

edit: And by change timeout I mean how long the controller waits for the disk before dropping it from the array, like could i set it too 2.5 mins just to be sure?

A:Intel Matrix Storage Controller and Raid Timeout

For an architectural overview see wikipedia.org's page on TLER. The idea is to set a RAID disk's TLER to a value that is less than a Hardware RAID controller's disconnect timeout value. On-board Marvel (I believe) and the Intel controllers are not true Hardware RAID, thus AFAIK neither expose nor use a disconnect timeout (:. With or without TLER, when using two disks you can tolerate a fault (such as an outright failure of one disk) by choosing RAID 1. But no fault tolerance can be obtained by choosing RAID 0 (instead you will gain IO performance). With RAID 0 when one disk fails I am afraid everything will be lost .

Hi

I have windows 7 64bit running on my main desktop pc now. HDD's on the ich7 interface are running in AHCI mode.

I decided to install intel's ahci drivers and upon the first reboot there was around a 5 minutes pause of nothing on the windows 7 loading logo screen and then it finally booted, after logging in there was a very unresponsive desktop followed by a balloon popup telling me my drive is detected and to reboot. On the 2nd reboot the delay was back again at the loading logo but this time it was infinity and after 30 minutes I hit reset and booted using f8 last known good configuration, this gave me the 5 minute pause again but I was able to get to my desktop.

Looking at device manager showed that whilst using intel's drivers 2 of my 3 ich7 drives are detected properly but my boot drive simply shows as 'disk drive' rather than its actual name. I then uninstalled intel's ahci software and on reboot it was fast again using microsoft's ahci driver.

My laptop I did the exact same procedure, installed windows using ahci and its integrated ahci driver, then installed intel's ahci driver on top and that has no such problems booting.

I will update my specs so people have the info needed to help.

A:intel matrix storage manager and windows 7 64bit

ok did a bit of googling etc.

the driver that my laptop is using was an 8.7 version of the driver issue by dell for its customers I had downloaded a couple of months back, the same driver works ok on this machine no delay in bootup (although no official windows 7 support). However the drive stays as just 'disk drive', if I load the intel matrix app it does correctly identify the drive.

I found a beta 8.9.4 driver (the official latest drive which hangs is 8.9.0) and that has the same issue as 8.9.0, it seems intel is writing bad drivers for windows 7 in my experience as some may remember I had issues with their graphics windows 7 drivers as well. I would love to know if there is a solution to this as for now I am probably going to revert back to the microsoft ahci drivers.

My research so far indicates it is possibly a compatability issue between my new WD 640gig cavalier and the intel matrix drivers.

So 8.7 no pause
8.8 not tried as cant find it anywhere I expect be same as 8.7
8.9.0 first driver to officially support windows 7 pause on 1st boot, 2nd boot does not finish
8.9.4 beta driver same behaviour as 8.9.0 but pause is a bit shorter

8.7 and 8.9.4 do not recognise the drive by its name in device manager, 8.9.0 did recognise it after some unresponsiveness in the OS but the reboot after did not finish.

Hi,
1. I could not establish with certainty that the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.9.0.1023 (7-17-09) would work with my chipset series after many hours of study. Do I need to install an older one and if so which one? Could you sent me the actual file and the directions for proper installation. I have the Back up or mirror drive without any power. and have been using the "C" drive for a few weeks. It says I have the correct driver but that it is installed incorrectly. I am good at following instructions but as a psychologist a very busy person. thanks for your help.

2. Using the Intel Chipset ID Utility mine is "Intel® G33/G31 Express chipset"
3. My system Devices says: Intel® G33/G31/P35 Express chipset. -

4. When I search for this chipset, with either name, it always said "no result matched my search" = or that it was not found.

5. My current Intel Matrix Storage Manager is 8.5 But it has problems. The error messages are:
a) The RAID plug-in failed to load because the driver did not install correctly.
b) A Serial ATA plug-in failed because the driver is not installed correctly

6. I had upgraded from RAID 1 2-1T Seagate drives to RAID 1 2-2T Seagate Hard Drives.

7. When I tried using "Contol I" - It said that data on the disks would be erased. I then shutdown and listed both of them as Non-Raid Drives and have the mirror drive without power.

8. Perhaps it is safer to use another new 2T Seagate Hard Drive for safety r... Read more

Good afternoon,

Having a bad day here trying to figure this out. Father's computer is a gateway running XP and w/ Raid. Windows will no longer boot after he tried to turn it back on from hibernate today.

The boot goes to:

Intel Matrix Storage Manager

all ok except

Port 1 (drive name) - error occurred (0)

Than gives the prompt for Configuration Utility but I don't want to be deleting Raid if I don't have to....I dont know what data I would end up losing either.

Than if you don't click that, it goes to the windows didnt load properly menu. None work and it will have windows trying to load forever. I tried safe mode with prompt and it hangs up everytime at

agpCPG.sys

I tried the gwbasic memory basic and smart tests....no errors at all. I did not try the extended yet as it will take hours.

Notes: Upon going into Bios...it seems I can not even change the boot order. I downloaded an XP recovery disk and it won't boot up. I can get it to go to Intel Boot Agent than it immediately goes back to the windows didnt load properly menu. So far, I can only get the gwbasic memory tests to boot up from a CD.

I tried all the reseeding and unplugging with no luck either. Did a lot of research on here with the closest problem being an Itunes related one but they were allowed to still log into windows whereas I can not nor do we even have Itunes on here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello,
im trying to install XP on a Tecra S5.
As described in the manual, I created a disk with Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
With a USB-floppydrive I tried to install XP with the F6 method.
I could choose the correct driver from the disk and was able to create partitions and format them.
Short time later in the installation process, XP asks for the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager"
in drive A:.
Altough disk is still in the drive, there is no reaction.
Even when I change the disk, nothing happens.

Any ideas?

A:XP installation on Tecra S5 - Intel Matrix Storage Manager

Hi

Start WXP installation again and when necessary load driver from floppy disc using F6 option. This will make HDD ?visible? for WXP set-up. When the HDD is recognized properly install WXP. Later when WXP is installed properly you can change partitions structure.

I don't understand why is floppy suddenly not accessible anymore. Check the data saved on it.

We will need to view the system status from an external environment. You will need a USB drive and a CD to burn. There will be several steps to follow.

Download GETxPUD.exe to the desktop of your clean computer
Run GETxPUD.exe
A new folder will appear on the desktop.
Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat
The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image.
Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD.
Next download driver.sh by noahdfear to your USB drive
Also Download Query.exe by noahdfear to the USB drive. In your working computer, navigate to the USB drive and click on the Query.exe. A folder and a file, query.sh, will be extracted.
Once this process is completed, download Dumpit by noahdfear to the USB drive.
Remove the USB & CD and insert them in the sick computer
Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned
The computer must be set to boot from the CD
In some computers you need to tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD, in others is the Esc key. Please consult your computer's documentation.
Follow the prompts
A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear
Press File
Expand mnt
sda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD
sdb1 is likely your USB

I'm trying to clean install from Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. Under Intel Matrix Storage Console v 6.2.2.1001, it shows to get a free update to a compatible version. However, when I click on their link, it takes me to some unrelated site.
I've search for Matrix Storage Console updates and it takes me to Intel's sites, but I have no idea what to choose.
The two Intel sites I've gotten to are:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24779/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver (but don't know what they mean when they say "F6 and RAID BIOS configurations need to be performed prior to installation of this driver for proper operation.)
and
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel®+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel®+RST) (Don't know which download type to choose. When I choose "Drivers" and "Windows Vista 32 bit, I get 7 choices and don't know which, if any, of those choices I should choose.)

Hi guys, you guys saved me once before (thanks to Paul!) maby you will be able to help me out again. I have installed Windows 7 on my laptop with a hybrid drive - followed the tutorial on http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/676213-definitive-guide-clean-install-os-mssd-... (skipped step 5 which is optional anyway). Here is my disk setup. As you can see it has several partitions, the selected one is the SSD disc (disk 1).    In Intel Rapid Storage there is no Accelerate button as you can see in the following picture.  So far I have tried the following: - Shrinking disk for 100MB- Removing unused partitions (read somewhere that 4 partitons is max)- Formatted SSD drive in all ways possible- Initialized SSD drive as MBR Now I have no idea what to do next, please someone give me an idea what to do. After reinstalling windows I did not touch any setting in BIOS. I only disabled acceleration in IRS and made the disk available. Then reinstalled Windows (all drivers are present, no exclamation marks in device management) and that's all. No Accelerate button..

A:Intel Rapid storage Accelerate missing

Hi legion85, Thank you for your inquiry, I will try my best to help! I understand that after installing a SSD into your system, you do not have a Intel Acceleration button any more. Here is a link to a Google search I did that may help you.  Answer from superuser No Accelerate button/tab on Intel Rapid Storage window. Please let me know the results.
