I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

I have seen this issue on a couple of L570's fresh from the factory.  The message comes up straight after boot and on this particular one the Touchpad stops working intermittently, I've made sure the bios and all drivers are up to date but still get the message. There does not seem to be any way to remove the touchpad software. There is an uninstaller in the Apoint2k folder but it says it can't run under this OS. The OS is Windows 10 64-bit.  Anyone else seeing this?

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

Hi,
I'm configuring a brand new IBM thinkpad for a friend. It came all set up and everything seems great (HUGE system!) but I can't get the touch pad to work, only the red button in the middle, along with the corresponding red buttons. The touchpad and black buttons do not work, and it seems that there should be a way to toggle back and forth. I am checking the IBM website as we speak, but I usually get my answers quicker here!
Thanks, TW

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hello , i bought my laptop some weeks ago, but i am facing one problem with the touchpad. Sometimes is working, and then stops working at all ,and with reboot sometimes comes back and some other not. The trackpad is working very good with the buttons of the touchpad. I found that if i will go to device manager and i will delete/unistall the touchpad (synaptics pointing device) then the mouse is working perfectly until the next reboot, when will be automatically installed the latest driver from windows or from update manager of lenovo, so i think that is not hardware problem. I have the latest original drivers on the pc, installed from the site of lenovo. Also i saw on the settings that the touchpad is enabled. Please i need some help regarding this issue.

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

Mine was the same since new.. Just fixed it and its really simple. Unscrew the back & carefully remove,Unplug and remove the battery (5? screws careful not to overtighten on reassemly, plastic holes are weak)Unscrew and remove the touchpad (6 screws)Get some alcohol (IPA) (Isopropanol Alchohol, not Indian Pale Ale) on a cotton bud and wipe the sticky adhesive that has crept out from underneath the 2 tiny black plastic pads that are stuck to the stainless steel metalwork (on the touch pad).  Ironically, i suspect these pads are there to stop the sheet metal from "clacking" against the case metalwork casting when you let go of the TP, unfortunately the adhesive has leached round to the front of the pad and makes a nasty smacking noise everytime you put the lightest of pressure ont he TP. picture some goop between your thumb and forfinger and the noise it makes when you try and separate them. hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers.

Forgive me if it's in the archives. I tried to find something similar but couldn't

I have a Lenovo T61p Thinkpad. I've disable the touchpad a ton of times and the dang thing keeps re-enabling itself and I can't determine why...
Hardware drivers and software are up to to date. Microsoft Auto update enabled.

Typical scenario:
Go into mouse properts->UltraNav tab
Uncheck "Enable TouchPad"

System is then fine as long as it's used periodically. But it seems like after a prolonged period of inactivity - say overnight, the dang thing re-enables itself and I can't determine why. Sure enough, I go back to the UltraNav tab and that stupid box turning it on is checked again.

No reboot, sleep, suspend, etc mode is required for this behavior to rear it's ugly head.

TIA,
Steve

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... I've just replaced the battery on my Carbon X1, and the new battery is interfering with the touchpad, making it hard to press the buttons. The new battery (actually a new, used battery, but it's way better than the original) isn't puffet out at all and as far as I can tell is no thicker than the original, but it seems to stick up somewhat from the bottom (when the keyboard is removed, I can press it down but it pops up just enough to interfere). There don't appear to be any fasteners on the bottom side of the battery, so I'm not sure exactly what it supposed to hold it in down. Anyone? Thanks!

This is meant as a bug report. Hopefully someone from Lenovo is reading this. I have a ThinkPad Yoga X1 (1st gen). A few days ago, the System Update utility updated the touchpad driver to version 19.3.4.119. I'm having 2 issues: 1) I do not use my touchpad and therefore disable it. However, every time my machine comes out of sleep or reboots, the touchpad is re-enabled. I disable it "correctly" by going to (Start Menu) -> (Mouse Settings) -> (Additional Mouse Options) -> (ThinkPad tab) -> Uncheck "Enable touchpad".  2) If I enable the touchpad and click the settings button next to "Enable touchpad", the Synaptics Control Panel window appears. This window is very unresponsive. And when I click on the "Click" tab, I get repeated errors that "The parameter value is invalid."  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver to no avail. I cannot find an older version of the driver at Lenovo's website. Please fix.

Hello, I am trying to disable touchpad on X260. It looks disabled, however one feature keeps enabled. Here is how to reproduce it: 1. Start marking text using TrackPoint and  the left TrackPoint button. Do not release the button.2. While doing this touch the touchpad with two fingers.3. Remove finger from the button.4. Observe the text is still marking with TrackPoint movement. Another way: 1. Click on something which is draggable with the left TrackPoint button. Do not release the button.2. Tap on TouchPad with two fingers.3. Release the button.4. Observe further dragging just with just moving the pointer. It appears that dragging/marking becomes sticky with two-finger tapping though TouchPad is disabled. The desired behaviour is to ignore TouchPad taps (since it's disabled). So, how do I fully disable TouchPad?

my IBM T41 Thinkpad hard drive died and I replaced it, so I lost all the drivers and special software IBM put on it. Once I installed XP I tried to disable the double tap touchpad but XP didnt have a driver so I installed the Lenovo UltraNav. With it I can have full control over the touchpad, except that it does not allow me to disable the double tap. the only tapping options are 'tap and drag' and 'tap zones'. Before the hard drive crashed I had disabled the double tap so I know it is possible. Any ideas? I hate the double tap and it ought to be easy to disable.
