I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I wish to obtain definitive information about the internal composition of the trackpad for the L440 laptop given my allergy to wool felt. Does the trackpad use any felt cushioning or gaskets? I recently noticed what appears to be small particles of lint around the crevices of the trackpad, but before cleaning the periphery of the pad I wish to be certain that these particles are not from underlying felt material. I would hope to obtain an answer directly from Lenovo. Thank you.

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

Confirmed having happened to five separate devices now, so this is not a random glitch. Installing KB4467691 (Windows Security Update) will cause the laptop to hang at the "Lenovo" splash screen at startup. It will have the standard "press enter to interrupt boot" message, but will not respond. SOLUTION: Hit enter at startup before the boot hangs, to access the BIOS. Under Security, disable SecureBoot. Windows should now launch successfully. It's possible that you can then remove KB4467691 and re-enable SecureBoot again, but I have not yet been able to confirm this.

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

Hi,

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone,My priority in buying a new laptop, apart from the good build quality was that it was supposed to be as silent as possible. I was even considering fanless models but their specs are a little too low for my needs so I decided to order X1C7 and received it a couple of days ago. While I expected its touchpad will not be of a Macbook quality I didn't expect it will become the noisiest element of an otherwise really silent machine.I noticed the touchpad surface seems covered (whatever horrible thing they covered it with) unevenly so the feeling of a paper surface is more pronounced in the middle of the touchpad, whereas the surface close to the edges, especially the lower one, feels a bit smoother. On top of that the touchpad's responsiveness or sensitivity, even though maxed in the settings, seem really disappointing. I feel like I need to scroll a lot more to go through the same amount of lines compared to any other laptop. This might be an issue with the driver, I haven't yet played with upgrading though as I'm not even sure I will keep the laptop due to that nightmarish touchpad.I was wondering if this is a QC issue and I am simply unlucky with this particular unit or does anyone else experience the awesome scrolling through the paper feeling as well?I have zero understanding of how Lenovo can make their flagship product so pathetically behind when compared to literally any other competition on the market when it comes to the touchpad. Forgive me if it's in the archives. I tried to find something similar but couldn't

I have a Lenovo T61p Thinkpad. I've disable the touchpad a ton of times and the dang thing keeps re-enabling itself and I can't determine why...
Hardware drivers and software are up to to date. Microsoft Auto update enabled.

Typical scenario:
Go into mouse properts->UltraNav tab
Uncheck "Enable TouchPad"

System is then fine as long as it's used periodically. But it seems like after a prolonged period of inactivity - say overnight, the dang thing re-enables itself and I can't determine why. Sure enough, I go back to the UltraNav tab and that stupid box turning it on is checked again.

No reboot, sleep, suspend, etc mode is required for this behavior to rear it's ugly head.

Mine was the same since new.. Just fixed it and its really simple. Unscrew the back & carefully remove,Unplug and remove the battery (5? screws careful not to overtighten on reassemly, plastic holes are weak)Unscrew and remove the touchpad (6 screws)Get some alcohol (IPA) (Isopropanol Alchohol, not Indian Pale Ale) on a cotton bud and wipe the sticky adhesive that has crept out from underneath the 2 tiny black plastic pads that are stuck to the stainless steel metalwork (on the touch pad).  Ironically, i suspect these pads are there to stop the sheet metal from "clacking" against the case metalwork casting when you let go of the TP, unfortunately the adhesive has leached round to the front of the pad and makes a nasty smacking noise everytime you put the lightest of pressure ont he TP. picture some goop between your thumb and forfinger and the noise it makes when you try and separate them. hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers.

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hello , i bought my laptop some weeks ago, but i am facing one problem with the touchpad. Sometimes is working, and then stops working at all ,and with reboot sometimes comes back and some other not. The trackpad is working very good with the buttons of the touchpad. I found that if i will go to device manager and i will delete/unistall the touchpad (synaptics pointing device) then the mouse is working perfectly until the next reboot, when will be automatically installed the latest driver from windows or from update manager of lenovo, so i think that is not hardware problem. I have the latest original drivers on the pc, installed from the site of lenovo. Also i saw on the settings that the touchpad is enabled. Please i need some help regarding this issue.

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... Hi All, I have an almost new X280 laptop. The touchpad stopped working when i switched on the machine, yesterday i did not have any problems. What i tried:- driver updated- checked bios+windows settings (Touchpad is ON) In Device Manager under HID devices, there is "HID compliant touchpad" and "Synaptics HID-Complient Touch Pad Device". Here comes the strange part: if i disable "Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch Pad Device", the touchpad starts working but gestures are not working like scroll up/down with two fingers. When enabling it again it stops working again. (+when booting from Hirens, it works fine, so it is definately _not_ a hardware issue) Additional information: The Track Poing device and the buttons over the touchpad are working all the time, if "click" with the touchpad it works fine all the time (for example i move the cursor with a USB mouse over any icon on the desktop, i double-click the touchpad, the program or document opens). Can you help me please, does anyone has an idea what the solution could be? I don't want to reinstall Windows because of this...  Thank you, Attila

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Has anyone else had an issue with the P50 and the synaptics driver?  If we install the driver from 2016 then the buttons do not work only the mouse cursor. If we delete the driver and let the 2015 driver install then all the buttons work fine.  Install the newer driver from last week and the buttons break again.   All 6 of our P50 machines are doing this that we just got. Anyeone else seen such odd driver behaviour?

I just received my x1 carbon 5th generation, but their is acceleration on the touchpad, enabling/disabling mouse acceleration does nothing to alleviate the issue. Having zero acceleration on the touchpad is a must for me, making this pretty useless until I find a fix.
