PARTS ON WARRANTY(POW) NOT UPDATED AS PER PURCHASE/REGISTRATION DATE

Q: PARTS ON WARRANTY(POW) NOT UPDATED AS PER PURCHASE/REGISTRATION DATE

I had purchased Dell Inspiron 15 3558 laptop from authorized GTM Store on Oct, 2016. On checking warranty status, it is seen that the POW date started on August 31, 2016 which is shipping date. How could i resolve this specific issue, since all other waranties i.e, NBD, Limited Tech Support, etc are showing purchased date i.e, Oct 2016

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have had my laptop for several years now and I no longer have the box/reciept/proof of purchase. I am involved in a class action suit and my laptop is eligible for a replacement, but the claims form is asking for some sort of proof of purchase. On the site for the class action lawsuit I read this: "Required documentation is a form of proof of purchase, which shows the date that you purchased your notebook computer. Proof of purchase can be a sales receipt, credit card or other account statement, shipping manifest, purchase order, proof of registration, or such other documentation that the Administrator deems sufficiently reliable to demonstrate that one of the specified models was purchased in the specified purchase date range, along with the product identification number found on the back of your notebook computer and the date of when the notebook computer was purchased." I am wondering if there is any way to find out when I registered my product, because I am almost 100% sure I would have done that the moment I turned it on. Thanks for your time.

I bought a Lenov Ideapad 510 15IKB on 14th April 2017. Now I'm facing 2 issues with the warranty registration and warranty upgrade: Issue#1On April 16th I registered the base warranty of my product as it should start from the purchase date of my product. After few email conversations for purchase proof, finally on 3rd May, I received email confirming the base warranty registration of my product. It was starting from 14th April 2017 and ending on 13th April 2018. I checked the same on lenovo website. But few days back when I again checked the warranty status, it was restored to factory warranty (15 Oct 2016 - 13 nov 2017). I don't know why this happened and how this happened. When I contacted lenovo, they said that warranty is updated in their database but how can I beleive when I can't see this on warranty lookup section of the Lenovo official website. I have also attached the screen shot of warranty lookup page as of today (22 June 2017). Issue#2I registered for 2 year warranty extension under Back To School offer (Ticket Number - ADP-BTS-025399) on www.buyalenovo.com and made a payment of INR 999/- on 6th May 2017. On 10th May, i received an email confirming the receipt of payment and in the same email, it was mentioned that warranty certificate will be mailed to me within 7 bussiness day, but till the date I've not received any warranty certificate, I've sent so many emails in last one week, but I didn't receive any reply to any email. My system: Dell desktop vintage 2000; Windows 98SE; OE 6 IE 6 Excell 2000 Quicken 2004 Celeron processor 128RAM 10gb hard drive half full. Generally runs ok.
If I added 256 more RAM would it give worthwhile increase in speed when using two and three programs at a time?
If yes, is it a big deal for a non-techie to order the part from Dell and self-install?
It is very time-consuming to backup on floppy disks and uses 30+ disks and computer requires each one be emptied clean first. I have a CD/DVD reader but not a CD writer. Would it be worthwhile to order a CD writer? They plug into the back?
One person whom I respect said yes to above. Another person I respect said get a new machine and use old monitor, printer, 3 way all-in-one, etc. What do you think?
Thank you very much.

I have two options available in addition to the levono warranty and  want to choose wisely. As it is I have over 11 months* remaining on the warranty but I think adding accidental coverage and on site service may be a good investment because I will be traveling with this laptop and I might be at the other side of the country if it breaks.I would appreciate advice on this topic. * I purchased it on 7/3/2017 and the start date for my warranty shows as 6/22/2017. Hello everyone. I'm thinking of purchasing a T470 and it appears that it comes with a 3 year onsite warranty as standard here in the UK (with the student discount anyway). My main question is that will I be able to make warranty claims even if I'm not in the UK? I'm going to be going to China in August and I'll be there for a good 10 months (maybe more) so I want to know if I'll be able to make warranty claims there. Going along with that, if I am able to make warranty claims in China, will I have to make the claim in Chinese to Lenovo China, and what is the chance that the technician speaks English (especially in a second tier city)? I'd say my Mandarin is "OK" at the moment but I know very few computer related terms. I think I could just about get by with what I know and the dictionary app on my phone, a roommate helping, or someone in the International Students office helping over the phone, but I'd feel much better having making the claim and talking to the technician in English if possible. Finally, I'll probably buy some RAM and a SSD from Amazon if the price is significantly cheaper than Lenovo. Will I have any problems with this if I need to make a warranty claim? Thanks in advance!

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5567 on 2/01/2017 from Reliance Digital Store Pune. Dell support assist shows that my warranty started on 14/09/2016 and will end on 14/09/2017. I did that 15 days ago but still haven't received any notification regarding the same. Can you guys please help regarding this process. I don't know what to do now as my warranty will end in 12 days.

If the ownership transfer doesn't go through, contact the seller to find out why - if the system was originally sold through a grey market channel, you can indeed have transfer issues - your seller should be able to tell you.

It seems Lenovo just rolled out new plans for  Thinkpad customer to choose their warranty add-ons. It moved from old optional plans with different extent of bundled products (e.g. ADP, KYD, Sealed battery) into an a-la-carte item model for the customer to choose. I compare Lenovo online sales website in HK, JP, SG and US and have the following findings: 1. Not all countries have rolled out the new warranty options scheme yet (e.g. Lenovo HK and Lenovo JP is still using old "bundled" warranty plan option) 2. Inconsistencies on the choice of additional warranty services available for Thinkpad customers (For Levono SG, Seal Battery, Keep Your Drive are not available as add-ons if the customer chooses Depot Warranty plan, while Lenovo US offers these add-ons to both Depot and Onsite Warranty. Meanwhile, Lenovo US customer need to buy an add-on for international warranty but Lenovo HK, SG offers the international warranty to all new Thinkpads they sold. 3. Lack of transparency on warranty add-on pricing. I noted Lenovo SG priced Seal Battery Add-on for T480s at SGD330 but same Add ons in Lenovo US is only quoted at USD$26. Can Lenovo explain why such discrepencies happen? And welcome you all share your findings on the Thinkpad warranty add-on offerings in your home country.

I am dissapointed abut Dell's warranty service. I bought an xps1530, and have full warranty til August'09. Dell'had to change twice the motherboard and I noticed that the parts are refurbihed. If the first replacement lasted a few months, how long will the second? I'm not sure that the replacement of the originally motherboard of my new xps was wright, it seems that it was in better conditions than the one they used to replace that; this second motherboard was changed by another one that seems to be in similar conditions.
When I asked a supervisor to change this parts for new ones he told me that it was impossible, they use refurbished for replacements.
Dell should inform this to theirs buyers, it's not fair to buy a new notebook that has quality problems and  the seller (Dell') is thinking not in the best solution for the customer but in the best solution in terms of money only.
E.Montero

A:Dissapointed: Dell's warranty parts are refurbished

If you read the warranty statement, they DO tell you that they use refurbished parts - so too does every other computer vendor.  Read the terms of your washing machine or car warranty -- same deal there as well.  It's standard practice in just about every industry.

That is a huge surprise for me, as shipping it back and forth might take a long time. Can I somehow request to repair my laptop inside the US and is there any opportunity to claim a temporary replacement for the time the laptop is being repaired? Thanks

amethyst1969 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The default warranty expiration date is set at the factory to be one year from the PC's manufacture -- as they have no idea when it will actually be purchased. You have to REGISTER the warranty to activate it, and once you do that, the expiration date will change to be one year from the date of registration. For warranty issues, you need to contact HP Customer Support: If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!Good Luck

Hi ,
I bought Dell Latitude 3460 from Amazon yesterday. I checked the warranty and found it already started 2 months back. Also I donot see my name associated with this system which may deny me a service when I seek one. What are the implications of  these two conditions of this buy.  Is there a work around ? Is there anything  I should be  doing?

A:Warranty Start Date

Hi PAMELACHANDRA,
Which country was the product purchased in? The warranty depends on region wise and base warranty cannot be transferred if the system was purchased with depot warranty, bought in one country and being used in another.
It might have been such that the system was purchased by a user and was sold off via Amazon and hence the warranty would start from the time the system was initially purchased from Dell, regardless of when it was resold.
Having said this, you could register the system online here - http://dell.to/1Q0MoOu
And transfer the ownership here - http://dell.to/1KpVTpc
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Best Buy sell a laptop three months after it was shipped. Customer boots laptop on date of purchase  and find three months of the standard one year warranty has already gone. I suggest this violates fair trading standards as all machines sold in retail stores are advised as coming with a 12 month warranty. I am also surprised this warranty does not allow the customer to call or even email technical support, which leaves them with the choice if suck it and see, takes it back to Best Buy and pay a "geek" $150 to suck their teeth and say "it will need to be returned to manufacturer" or post on the forum.Warranty date starts from date the laptop is purchased by the end user in sealed box not that date the retail store ordered the laptop.
Limited Warranty in effect translates to no warranty at all.
I have used Dells since 1995 I am shocked this company no longer starts warranty from date of purchase (i.e. first boot)

A:Start Date for Warranty

Hi Richie,
Apologies for an unpleasant experience. If the system is purchased from the retailer, the Dell limited hardware warranty would be active from the date you purchased the computer. If you are in US, system comes with a one year limited hardware warranty (by default).

You may private message me the following information via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation):

Service Tag of computer
Date of purchase
Country of purchase
Complete address with city, state and zip code

Once I have the details, I would be able to decide the next course of action.
