Putting and using games that require internet on a USB Flash Drive

Q: Putting and using games that require internet on a USB Flash Drive

I have recently figured out that I can put my games on a 16gb USB flash drive and play them off a computer without having to log into said computer (so I could play them after school on campus computers). I have since put my games onto the USB flash drive, and have about 5gb left. However, when I tried to play them while logged in, it said I could not connect to the internet, and thus the game could not launch. I have searched the internet on how to connect to internet on a USB but have not found out where to, at least not when trying to get it from Windows 8, where I cannot view the properties of the connection and just copy it to a flash drive.

Preferred Solution: Putting and using games that require internet on a USB Flash Drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have vista. I don't like vista. I want to use my windows xp disk and put it on my flash drive and boot it from there. I have 2 512mb memory cards in my pc. So I have over a gig of memory. My flash drive is 1 gig. I know I'll probably need a bigger flash drive. I need to know how big a flash drive and how to put my xp on that flash drive. I also need to know how to duel boot.. I've asked my son but he doesn't seem to want to help me..He is too busy playing wow. some please help me. Thanks

A:Need help putting xp on flash drive

Ok, this is quite easy... Do not use your flash drive. I'm not trying to be mean but your flash drive cannot exceed 14mb/s, your hard drive, even a slow one will go far beyond that around 150mb/s.

Also I understand I had one of the beta copies of vista, you need much more than 1gb of ram. I had gotten rid of it within a couple of weeks for I could not coupe with the lag.

First your hard drive how large is it? If it is around 80gb or larger you're fine, much smaller it will be difficult dual booting xp & vista.

**Dual booting
First you will need to partition your hard drive, give each partition a minimum of 20gbs I recommend around 40 to be safe.

You will need a program such as Paragon Partition Manager. This and similar programs cost around $30. You could probably find one just as good on Google for free, or download a Linux live CD of any distribution... also free but around 600mb.

Shutdown your computer, press the power button and tap F12 repeatedly until a window comes up, you should see a menu with all text or mainly text, that's the bios. In there you will find an option to "boot from CD" scroll to that and press enter.

From there windows explains most of what you need to do on-screen. When it asks about the location make sure you select the partition you have just created not the one with vista on it. You may also format with the disk, this will delete anything on the new partition but will leave the other intact as long as you sel... Read more

Is this possible?

A:How do I run my games off of my USB Flash drive?

Unless a program explicitly says it works on a flash drive or all the files are self-contained in one folder (no registry keys, system files, etc.), it can't be done.

Has anyone played around with some larger fast Flash drives by installing
games or programs (Office maybe) on it?

I realize that Flash drives are much slower than todays drives but figured someone might have tried it and was looking for some results and comments.

The Corsair flash survivor 8GB I have now is pretty snappy, Average read = 32.8 MB/s and Random access = 1.1ms so I figured once things are loaded it could perform pretty descent, we will see.

After CES starts I will be getting a Corsair 32GB flash drive to review and will try a few things like install Crysis and Steam (all installed games) and maybe try Office on it.

A:Programs, Games on a Fast Flash Drive?

Hi MegaDETH,
I have installed Vista 64 Ultimate from a USB flash drive before. I performed the upgrade option. The transferring of windows files was only about 7 minutes worth during the install. The rest of the time was the hard drive grinding. It smoked a CD/DVD rom drive by far.

This week I will perform a test on my USB stick and install office 2007 on it and see how it runs. I have a PNY 8 gig flash drive. Sorry not sure of the speed. When I performed the Vista 64 upgrade I even plugged it in the front usb port rather than the back. I was kinda surprised I got away with that with the power consumption and all. Hope this helps.

Today I got on my computer and tryed to play some flash games and they would all freeze up right at the beginning and wouldn't load correctly. Then I went on youtube to watch some videos, they load about half way, and stop. When I go to play them, they only play about 2 seconds of it, and won't start back up again no matter how much time I give it to load. I checked out other websites for both flash games and videos, and this problem appears with every single thing. I was just on my computer yesterday, and everything was working just fine. I'm looking for a software program (I am running Windows 7) that can help me create fairly simple quizzes that I want to put on my churches website. I really only have 2 requirements:
1) It must not require Flash to design the quiz or a Flash player to take the test or view it.
2) Once the quiz is created I need to be able to get the embed code to place it on the web site.

Any suggestions?
Free would be nice but willing to pay up to $100 or so.

So I have several games that I enjoy playing once in a while when the current day games just get old. I have tried to install them on my laptop that runs Windows 10 but NONE of them seem to work due to them requiring DirectX 9.0.  My system currently
has DirectX 12 and apparently that won't work for these games. I have tried to download DirectX 9.0 but it won't even let me finish the download because it tells me my computer won't allow the download because it has to be Windows 2000 or older. Anybody have

Can you think of anything that updated?
Widows firewall?
Any ad or spyware blockers?
Have you had any recent trouble with a virus?

First guess would be a firewall, though I'm not sure if those often auto update.
Any spyware/adware blockers may have updated and now are blocking IP's that those companies use.

recently i costom built my computer around the time vista was released, its been working smothly on my comp untill a weeek ago it all went wrong and crashed, to be on the safe side i rebooted in safe mode, after then again reboooting it and putting all my settings back to the way they where i thought that it was all over untill recently i noticed little thigs like video's on u tube or any other site not working, aswell as sertain links on a page would not open. this personaly has confussed me! im kinda stuck on how to get it to go back to wat it used to be like before i went into safe mode, please help me!!!!!!!!!!

thanx!!!! yours greatfully Elan2jay!!

A:after putting vista into safe mode it will no longer opn java script or flash players

Unless you actually made some changes to the configuration, things should have returned to normal once you rebooted from Safe Mode.

Vista's "System Restore" would probably be the quickest fix for this and you will lose nothing by doing it.

However if you are using Internet Explorer, you might want to go to Tools > Add-Ons and make sure that all the Adobe Flash stuff there is present and enabled.

Also in Internet Options > Security Settings > Custom you can reset all settings there to their defaults.

Finally if you are using a 3rd party firewall -- some of these scripts can be blocked by their configurations.

My internet is connected through a flash drive. It been going on for a while and I thought it was the flash drive that was the problem, but now I have a new one I know that it isn't the problem.

When I plug it in to get the internet,it says, 'installing driver software' and basically just takes for ever and freezes. The CPU usage goes up to 100% and I can't do anything. It basically freezes at, 'preconfigured driver folders interface (com6) Huawei moblie searching' and thats it. It's driving me crazy, as I can't get the internet! Please any ideas?

A:Internet flash drive issues

Hallo Kittycain, is there an option in CONTROL PANEL / Programs & Features to uninstall the driver? if so uninstall it then restart your computer.

Then temporarily disable your Anti virus while you reinstall the driver, once installed restart your computer & re enable your anti virus.

I hope this is of some help

When I plug a flash drive into the USB port of my Arris cable modem/wireless router, why does it appear on my Windows 7 computer as a network shared folder ridiculously named with its 63-digit serial number:
...whereas when accessed by Macintosh PCs on the same network,  the same network shared folder correctly appears with my user-specified volume name:
Network\ARRIS-LGW\USBStorage\My 256GB Flash

Arris Techs seem to lack the in-depth knowledge to answer this question....they simply claim it's a Windows problem.

Logic tells me that Windows is demonstrably capable of depicting this kind of NAS by either serial number or volume name - so why would Windows 'decide' to serve up a serial number name to Windows PCs but serve up a volume name to Macs?
Or, is it Arris' own firmware programming that's at 'fault' -  if so, what terminology do I need to use, to properly ask Arris or other manufacturers which of their products depict router-mounted USB devices by their volume names?

If I go through My Computer - Right Click on Flash Drive and then Eject the system shows the following message

"F: is Currently in Use. Save any Open Files on this disc, and then close the files or programs
using the files before trying again. If you choose to continue, the files will be closed, which might cause data to be lost.

If we choose Continue, system displays "Safe to Remove Hardware".

I am having a laptop with same OS and there when I plug in the flash drive it does not create any short cut and no such problems.

Both the systems are having Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1.671.4971 and are upto date on Virus Siglature update.

I'll start by saying I bow to many of the responses I've seen in this forum. Recently my computer started having these problems:

Could not access Microsoft or antivirus websites.
Connecting a flash drive would mean that shortcuts, .exe and Recycler files would be copied. It would reappear seconds after deletion.

What I did:
Downloaded anti-malware bytes and scanned and deleted all viruses found--Trojans, Virus Ramnits.
Downloaded Comodo internet Security 2013---Its still on the PC. Though it cannot connect to the internet.
Finally after getting frustrated, I read articles on techsupportalert.com and downloaded Kaspersky TDSSKiller and Comodo Cleaning Essentials
TDSSKiller and Comodo Cleaning Essentials only detected a changed DNS host, and I repaired it.
Then according to the article I used Comodo Killswitch and Comodo Autorun to disable all unsafe processes.

Now, I cant access any drives, flash drive. The internet shows not connected, though I am surfing now with Comodo Virtual Dragon. On shuttind down or restarting, it says "You dont have permission to shutdown/restart"!!!

Finally, I used FxSasser/Symantec Sasser Remover from reading an article and ran it half, and it said "no Sasser worms were found though the full scan wasnt completed".

I am on Windows 7 32 Bit.
How do I fix this problem?

Hello masonta. Welcome to the forum.

Let's start with this: can you post a screenshot of your Disk Management window, expanded so we can read everything, with the USB stick installed?

You also might check in Device Manager to see if the stick shows up as a USB device, or a hard disk.

I have 2 PC's conected to a DSL connection using a HUB. One PC is Windows 7, the other XP. We pay a fee per month for a 2nd I.P. address and need to login each time we access the internet by clicking on an icon. I like this system because then I control what can connect to the internet at all times.

We recieved a new modem from our ISP and it can be configured as a router, that way we could stop paying for the 2nd I.P. address each month.

The problem is that would mean an always-on connection, what is what I would have if I used a cable ISP. I would like to find a way (in Windows 7 and XP) to use the modem as a router but keep the way we have to login each time we use the internet. I would prefer if this could be configured in Windows, but a free software utility would work as well. I know I can create rules in Windows firewall to restrict certain programs from accessing the net, but that isn't what I need. Any help appreciated!

I've noticed that I am no longer able to run certain applications that require an internet connection, such as Google Earth and Limewire. Even Firefox doesn't work (although IE does, which is strange). In each case, I get some sort of error message saying that I am not connected to the Internet or that my firewall is blocking the application. My internet connection is fine and I've already added those applications to my firewall exceptions list (I also tried disabling the firewall but that didn't help either).

It seems that this came about all of a sudden but obviously something must have changed. I'm running Vista and using Symantec AntiVirus.

Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance!

I probably am not saying this right, but I have heard that by putting your operating system on one drive and the programs on another, the computer will run faster. Also, backups will be faster because you only have to backup the program drive.

I might have that wrong ? it could be that you load the OS and program files on one drive and put the work product on the second drive. (Could they possibly be talking about three drives - one for the OS, one for the programs and a third for the work product?)

If anyone can tell me how to do this or lead me to a place where I can read about this (and how to do it), I would be most appreciative.

My concern is caused by the fact that I am running out of space on my C Drive. I am told that a larger C Drive, by itself, may not be the best way to go.

A:Need help in putting OS on one drive & programs on another

Drive 1 - OS

Drive 2 - Programs

If you only back up Drive 2, it won't help. Most programs not only create their own folder, but also modify the registry, add dll's to the Windows folder, and more.

I would add a second drive, move My Documents to it (right click on My Documents, select properties, and move it from there), and move all other data to the new one.

I'm not 100% certain I understand what you want to do, but let me try to answer what I can. If you "restore" an image to a specific drive or partition, whatever is already on that drive or partition will be overwritten by the image. Is that what you are asking?

Upon finding out this was a virus I went online and tried downloading some antivirus software(I had AVG installed, but after performing a complete scan it never picked up on it) anyways, I googled free antivirus scan and tried one of the programs which (dont remember which one) but this opened up a whole new can of worms. When I performed the scan it found some viruses but unless I paid for the software it wouldnt allow me to fix it. So I tried removing this software from my computer and then whenever I went to google a different antivirus software, a popup kept popping up for different types of antivirus software.. I finally was able to get AVIRA installed on my laptop and successfully scanned and removed 14 viruses, I also ran EUSING registry cleaner in safe mode. Now when I start my computer normally, 1.) I cant use any programs which require the internet to work (even though my wireless is connected and working) for example, when I try opening internet explorer, the window opens up and it says connecting, but it just freezes up with a blank screen. Also my Yahoo IM won... Read more

my computer has an 'outlook mail' tile on desk-top that shows when i first boot up.
-i setup the Outlook email account -no problem -but can i now access this mail account without the need to be connected to the Internet? IE just click to open from the desktop tile -sign-in and send mail ?
Reason i ask... If no internet connection is required via a browser for Outlook and for any reason i couldn't connect to the internet, could I still use Outlook email to send/receive emails until whatever problem would be causing a non-connect to the internet .

* i have gmail/aol/roadrunner email accounts but first must launch my Google Chrome browers (or I.E.) inorder to access those accounts ... thanks in advance edythe

A:Does Outlook email require internet connection to use?

No. You just tell it that you do not want to set up an account, when initially setting up the profile. Or set the email to not retrieve at all, unless you retrieve it, and set for leaving the email on the server.

For email from the browser, I use mailto: in Chrome, to allow me to do have my Yahoo email pull up when I need to compose. With Firefox, it can be changed from the hidden advanced properties.

Thunderbird is the same was as outlook, but I like it when using with multiple email providers then Outlook. Not too heavy and very easy to control. You would have to add Sunbird for the Calendar.

So, I got a RiDATA 32GB flashdrive, FAT32 formatted, when suddenly, all my files went corrupt, then the flashdrive went to Read Only, RAW status. I have tried wiping clean the partition and crating a new partition out of it, but it ultimately failed as the flash drive didn't repair itself after that. This is the same problem that I had in this forum post before:

Stubborn Flash Drive Problem

I was hoping if there is a similar software that can work for this flash drive, if so, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Purchased a new 2T hard drive and hoping to put my ever expanding, out of control DVD movies on the external hard drive. Need some ideas/help with the following:
I have about 500+ DVD movies in the DVD format of VIDEO_TS, and AUDIO_TS folders, also a goodly assortment of AVI type file format video. What I would like to do, is move the DVD's to the external hard drive and hopefully come up with a way to play on the Television directly from the external hard drive. It looks like an organizational nightmare. Would I generate folders Alphabetic ( Folder A, B, C, etc. ) and then move each movie DVD into the correct folder, etc.?  Is there a better way? How would I print a searchable data file of the contents? My Samsung TV has an external USB port, is there some program, etc. to do all of this. Just have so much space tied up with the DVD's ....time to shrink all of this down.
Welcoming some thoughts, direction, etc. before I begin the task.

What I would like to do, is move the DVD's to the external hard drive and hopefully come up with a way to play on the Television directly from the external hard drive. Not likely you would be able to play your videos directly from an external drive hooked up to the TV via USB. Check your TV owners manual for info. You'll most likely require another device, such as this rather expensive unit: https://www.amazon.com/WD-TV-Media-Player-WDBYMN0000NBK-HESN/dp/B00JXFM75Y  or, like me, you could have a dedicated computer [HTPC] connected to your TV via a computer's display port or HDMI cable with your external drive connected to the computer via USB. Your videos would be viewable via Windows Media Player Classic [my preferred video player] or VLC by simply dragging/dropping the Video TS folder onto the player. I always rename the TS folders first to the name of the video. Drop them all into a single folder & you'll have a continuous alphabetical listing, easily scrolled through [I wouldn't bother myself with doing folders A B C etc, it'll just slow you down]. Set the folder view to Details. Easier than trying to locate a DVD off your shelves. The Audio TS folders BTW aren't needed [they're always empty] & can be tossed.  I have an inexpensive wireless mouse/keyboard combo connected to the computer. I've used an old Win7 laptop in the past but now am using a dedicated low profile HP 8300 computer, I bought used for $125 running Win10. Just be sure the compu... Read more

Hi guys, I have finally given up on my laptop as it runs so hot when using simple applications (early I7 laptop processor)

So I have a new laptop, but rather than mess around formatting them both, I'd much rather just put my hard drive in the new laptop.

What things should I do to set it up correctly.
I assume sysprep is a must to sort out driver issues, but is there anything else you would recommend?

Thanks guys

A:Putting old hard drive in new computer: What should be done

For a minimum of hassle and full operation, you are going to have to reinstall Windows to that hard drive if you move it to the new laptop. The old hard drive likely has an OEM version of Windows on it from the old laptop. OEM versions can't be moved to another machine. You'll have to use the activation key from the new machine to reinstall.
