I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So finally i've got a windows 7 copy. I fired it up in Vmware Workstation(As i'm not giving any physical resources to a microsoft product, no offence. All my life i was a linux/unix user and i'm happy to stay that way. i will only run vstudio so that i can have some familiarity with the windows development environment )

My friends said very good things about this version of windows. And also praised the power shell. But as far as i have seen nothing looks or acts better than then my past short encounter with windows xp. Only thing i can see is the UI is bloated with graphics and annoying stuff just keep popping up which i do not need. another thing the Power shell is terribly slow. which kills the idea of having a powerful programming shell if it responds the same rate as the bloated graphics. The default text editor of windows is notepad which is kind of a joke. It does not have anything at all. why microsoft is shipping this poorly designed software with their system is beyond my understanding. its command line back end EDIT is also useless. Recently i came to know edit was based on PICO. which was bought by Mr.Gates in the early days of microsoft. I kind of dont understand why he bought the worst editor possible when several superior editors existed. even ken Thompsons original "ed" from 70's outperforms edit or notepad in every way possible. So i first downloaded gvim and emacs so that atleast i can edit stuff.

I'm sure that there are plenty of Windows users out there who can say similar things about Linux and the other OSes (MAC OSX being such an example). In turn, these other users might find things a bit frustrating when they try out an OS that is not familiar to them. All OSes have their nuances and ways of doing things and when you get used to the OS and its limitations you will find things a lot easier. No OS is perfect, and there are always features present in OS A that we would like to see in OS B (and vice-versa).

Hi Friends,

I had Windows 7 Home Basic (64 Bit) on my PC just a few days ago, which has been upgraded to Windows 10. But whenever I use the internet via a LAN connection to a router, I get disconnected after a certain period of time for no apparent reason. I went into Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters. Right-click on it and tried to update it, but it said its already updated. For example, please have a look at the below image, its for example only.

But this very page also offers the drivers for Windows 10 under the link called "Support & Downloads", here there are

Just about some days ago, i decided to install TortoiseSvN on my Windows 7 RC 1 computer to upload to a project i am developing in on SourceForge.Net - which was a mistake (although, other users have had no problems with it). After installation, i required to restart, so i did. After that, Windows complained telling me that there were corrupt files, so i ran "chkdsk /f" and restarted. It completed quickly. I restarted AGAIN and ran the program i just installed, uh-oh, an error message appears stating: "The program can't start because MSVCR90.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.".

I googled and even binged to no avail! One Google result (there weren't that many) was relating to WinInet, a programming resource, from an MSDN post and stated that you just needed to clear the manifest (whatever that was, no idea), so thinking it was something to do with the registry or some backup file i downloaded, installed and ran CCleaner. Fixed all registry entries (made full backups) that CCleaner said was an "error" and did a junk clean.

I can start, but still getting the error, these programs:

Hi ewnowak and welcome to Tenforums.

The download will be pretty big, between 3 and 4 GB, so it could take a while, depending on your internet speed. Once it's ready, it will show in Windows Update.
You could also go directly to the MCT (Media Creation Tool) at the Microsoft website, and download that way, (through your browser, so you can watch the progress), or even the Microsoft TechBench website.

You can find all the information here:
Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

Hope that helps.

Hello sushmit and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If this doesn't help you may want to consider a Repair Install. This will try to fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, personal data, programs, system drivers, etc. Usually the most major problem after a Repair Install is you'll have to visit Windows Updates and reinstall updates.

Hi, I've been trying to solve this problem for the better part of two days, so I figured it was time to seek a little bit more hands on help than Google searches can provide. The issue at hand is that when I start Windows 7 in normal mode or Safe Mode with Networking, I get an error message within 10 to 30 seconds telling me that "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart in one minute. Please save your work now." And then it does just that, restart. I'm posting this in this particular forum and not the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs Forum is because I'm not entirely sure it is still a virus/malware/trojan issue anymore. It certainly started off as one though. Let me detail exactly what happened.

Browsing the internet and MSE pops up and says there are 2 possible threats, asking me to clean now to take care of them. I do so, but the computer slows to a halt. I then get the above mentioned error message for the first time, at which point, I bring the computer up into Safe Mode with Networking (thinking it's some malware that's causing the problem) but I get the error again upon start-up in Safe Mode with Networking. I boot into Safe Mode with Networking again and attempt to use RKill to stop the services causing the problem so I can run a MalwareBytes Anti-Malware scan. No such luck. I am however, able to update MalwareBytes in that one minute on the next restart and then boot into normal Safe Mode. I proceed t... Read more

Hi Antti,

i didn't get your question correctly.

What i understand is you don't want to give the access to the particular user. is that right?
For this, you can change the priorities for the user account.

For about the past week my computer has been automatically shutting down (not restarting) once every 23 hours exactly...

It seems to have started after setting OODefrag v8.5 pro to run automatically one night (at 3:00AM) and shut down when it was complete. Ever since then it shuts down every 23 hours. The first time (which was the night after I set ooDefrag to run automatically) it shut down at 3:00AM, the next night at 2:00AM etc. etc...

I only set oodefrag to do this once (not on a repeating schedule) and can not find any scheduled tasks with in oodefrag. I have since removed oodefrag from my computer. This did not solve the problem. I have also looked into windows Scheduled Tasks folder, which is empty...

I ran mcafee antivirus which found no viruses/spyware.

I also ran Adaware and Superantispyware which also found nothing.

BUT when I run Tuneup Utilities 2006 --> Administrater Control --> TuneUp Process Manager I see a running process called FamilyKeyLogger on /windows/system32/cisvc.exe (though I do not see this process in windows task manager process viewer).

Last night I disabled that process manually and the computer did NOT restart automatically. That led me to believe that that process was some kind spy/malware and was causing the problem until I read the following (which is quoted from a review posted on download.com):

My laptop: HP Pavillion AMD Turion Dual Core, 1.9 Ghz, 3 GB RAM, Win Vista Home Premium SP1, IE 7.0.6000, Zone Alarm 8.0.298, AVG 8.5

For the last month or so, my laptop loses internet connection after some time (not a definite interval, but can be as much as 5 hours). The disable or repair options do not work, in that it shows good connection, but no pages can be loaded. I increased the RAM last month from 2 GB to 3 GB, and thought that may be the cause, but returning to the original 2 GB RAM did not solve the problem. I connect wireless through a router, and I reset the router, but it did not help.
When I reboot the computer, it starts working again until another random, usually rather long, interval, when it again stops surfing the net. I use IE 7 and Firefox 3.0.8

I have checked it for viruses or malware, but nothing found. I have run the speedfan and the following are the current results, when the laptop is working: GPU:64C, HDD:43C, Temp1:58C, and Core:53C.

Many thanks for your help.

On a fresh install it takes my laptop 12-15 hours (honestly, no kidding) for Microsoft to say hey you got no updates, here is the list what ones do you want to install. Then many hours more to download them and install them.

Is there a way to download all the Windows 7 64bit updates manually (by a program), not one by one searching for them on google and have them all installed automatically by a program?

I have seen some older programs that did this but they don't seem to be current and I still have a about 100 updates after they installed the updates.

I would like to find a way to batch download and install all the updates to a fresh install of Windows 7.

I have AT&T U-Verse and a desktop pc with XP sp3, and recently have not been able to use the internet for more than a matter of minutes, but I am only able to use the internet after re-booting. Then, it will suddenly timeout, like clockwork. Someone came out from AT&T to diagnose/fix the problem, and he had no solutions.

Here are things I tried which produced the same results after re-boot - timed out after 1-2 minutes:

I've tried using a wireless adapter.
I've tried using an ethernet cable
I've tried browsing in safe mode with networking
I've tried resetting the router.
I've tried system restore to a month prior when internet was functioning normally.
I've tried disabling trend micro, windows firewall, and zone alarm at the same time.
I've tried connecting my ethernet cable that the desktop uses to my laptop, works fine.
I've tried TCP/IP stack repair using the cmd prompt.
I've tried connecting to yahoo and google using ips, no luck.

I now have to "press F4 to resume" on startup, and the computer network connection icon is missing in the taskbar (so is the volume icon), even when I am able to browse the internet.
I have attached the network diagnostic for XP. This was done when the wireless adapter was being used. This is my main computer, and I need the internet for work. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I did the upgrade from W-8.1 to 10 in November and have had several problems since. The most pernicious problem is the loss of my Internet Connection. I had my ISP service dude have a go; but no joy. He concluded it is a software problem. Everything is properly connected and working.
I read Welsheagle's post. I'm running AVG Free. AFAIK, Firewall protection is only available with the upgrade to AVG Pro. Same time, I didn't install AVG until after the problem first occured. I did some of the diagnostics suggested in the thread, the outputs of which follow below.
Two errata might help lead to an explanation and solution.
1. Restarts after doing a Hard Shutdown occasionally result in reconnecting to the Internet. Whereas, doing a shutdown/restart from the "Shut down or Sign Out" menu always results in no Internet Connection. The "Troubleshooting regime gives no joy.
2. W-8.1 afforded a drag-in Menu using the mouse pulled in from the RHS of the screen. This no longed works.

I'm a little confused as to what computer is connecting to the internet and what is the one restarting, but you can try going to run, type 'cmd', type "ping -t (ip address of Host ex. 192.168.50.1). Depending on the wireless routers Default Gateway. this will ping the router until you tell it to stop by pressing CTRL-C in the prompt.

I get that from time to time with uTorrent. Also using WiFi. If I look at my wireless modem log I can see a high amount of packet errors (outbound). Seems I have this problem if my upload speed is set too high.

If I decrease my upload rate to 50% of what my rated speed is, then no problems. This was the case for me in XP, Vista and 7.

Hello All,

Please excuse my lack of Computing terminology when writing this - I am a complete novice in the use of a Computer having been entirely `self taught` on just the basics.

I clicked onto the `Get Windows 10` button on the Windows 10 upgrade onscreen display [the display that has the Time counting down to the expiry of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer] - a different onscreen display box appeared with the message `Starting download..... Once download is complete, you can start the upgrade, or schedule it for later`.

An Hour later there was no download amount that I would associate with the Windows 10 upgrade download.

My download amount in that period was just 14MB which I associate with my looking at Emails and a small update on my AVG Anti Virus Software.

I waited about another Hour before posting this as I had something else to attend to - now as I am about to submit this message the Windows 10 Download was supposed to start downloading almost 2 Hours ago - still no indication of a large download beginning.

I have a Download Meter on my Computer which I know to be really accurate but even if it was not I was expecting a `Massive` download when upgrading to Windows 10.

I am guessing that I will be advised to Close the Windows 10 download onscreen display box and try clicking onto `Get Windows 10` again but I wanted to check whether there might be a fairly long `Pre-download` process that is carried out prior to the actual download commencing and I did not... Shortly after the "Get Windows 10" icon appeared in the system tray of my Win 8.1 installation, I made the mistake of clicking on the "Get Windows 10" icon and "reserved" my copy of Windows 10. After some research, I elected to cancel my reservation for Windows 10 and did so by again clicking the "Get Windows 10" icon and going through the process to "cancel" my reservation. (I subsequently read Brink's fine post on "Get Windows 10 Icon -Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1" and did option four to uninstall the KB3035583 update). Now when I go to windows update and "search for updates", the search result is "install windows 10" though it does allow me to view "all available updates" which includes numerous "important" security updates as well as a few "optional" updates, one of which is Windows 10. I select the "important" updates, deselect the optional updates (including windows 10), and click install then get a dialog that "Windows 10 setup files are being downloaded" and an option to "cancel" (which I do). How do I stop Windows Update from downloading Windows 10 setup files and just download the "important updates" to secure my present installation of Win 8.1? Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

A:Windows Update Downloading W10 Automatically

I've got the same issue. I reserved my Windows 10 upgrade and then I think I clicked something in the Get Windows 10 app to say yes let's install. I changed my mind after reading stuff online and now whenever I try to install updates, it tries to download Windows 10 before any other update. I haven't tried getting rid of KB3035583 just yet, but I have unselected all updates except definition updates (3mb update), and windows 10 still tries to download. I cancel it every time for now. I tried hiding the optional Windows 10 update but this doesn't do anything either: Windows 10 still tries to download. Only thing I can do is turn off updates and never update anymore. I really don't want to do this or have to do a factory restore to 8.1 or worse: upgrade to windows 10 and then downgrade back to 8.1 within the 30 day window. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi all,

I am having a very frustrating problem with Windows Time on my Windows 7 computer. Not only has it happened to my Windows 7 computer, but it has also happened to all of my other Windows XP computers, this time problem only seems to be happening to me (I have no idea why me), it doesn't seem happen to any of my friends or family members, or work computers etc. etc. My problem is my time keeps going back three hours at completely random times. One day my time is correct (after changing it from a previous error), and then the next thing I know, it's gone back three hours again with no warnings whatsoever. I have tried changing the default time server to one of the other listed ones. I've tried not syncing with a time server on the Internet. I've tried manually fixing the time, but it still goes back. Everything that I try, it always seems to go back. I have my computers set on "Pacific Time" and I live in Massachusetts. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I believe it's a time synchronization error but I have no idea how to fix it, and why it happens to every single computer I use.

Thanks for the help!

-McDougal

Change your time zone to UTC-5:00 Eastern Time. Why is it set to Pacific if you live in MA?

Upgraded HP Pavillion (AMD) running Vista Premium to 7 Premium and I have no internet connection. It connects to my Belkin (N) router but the computer states the device will not allow access. I have tried a direct connection with bypassing the router and using a wired connection to my modem, no success. Encountered this problem when runnig Vista after an update, simply used a restore point and didn,t allow updates and I was able maintain a connection. I had hoped the upgrade would correct the problem.

Get Drivers through Windows Update or the manufacturer's Support site ONLY.

Third party "driver finders" are always suspect.

Only download your LAN driver from Asus for now:
Version V2.1.0.17
Description: Athros LAN Driver
2013.06.11
Download from Global

Once you have connectivity, update all drivers through Windows Update
Check for updates
Look in Optional Updates
Tick (checkmark in boxes) drivers
Update.

Any missing drivers can be installed later from Asus
Notebooks & Ultrabooks - X200CA

Select Win7 x64 OS from the Asus dropdown box

If I try to launch a program shortly after Windows 7 boots up, the program will open but every time I click in the window, the screen flashes and the window shows (not responding) up top. The screen will flash again shortly and look available but again, if I try to do anything the process repeats.

I have to close the program and reopen it. Any suggestions on this?

A:Loading a program without giving Windows 7 plenty of time to boot up

Your best option is to cut down on the number of programs that Windows is loading along with itself. A lot of programs will help you do this, including Windows Defender (which Windows recomends for the task), and CCleaner (ccleaner.com). By reducing the number of such programs, you computer should be ready for use much faster.

Services you don't need can also be disabled to the same effect, but be careful. Disabling a critical service could cause the computer to fail.

A:Latitude 3550 upgrade windows 10 and no internet connection

Hi FLEEPER,
What is the exact OS version installed on the system? Check in command prompt -> systeminfo.
When you type in ipconfig, does it list a valid ip against the network adapter?
Disable the firewall and check if it works.
Try the following ->
****************************************

Open the Start Menu and then open the Settings window.
Open the Network & Internet section and then select VPN.
If a VPN connection is enabled, click to highlight the connection name and choose to Disconnect. If the customer is not using the connection and wishes to uninstall it, then highlight the connection and click Remove.
NOTE: If VPN is already set to disabled or no VPN connection is showing, the issue is likely not related to VPN unless the customer has a separate VPN client that is not a part of the Windows OS.

After disconnecting the VPN, the system should be able to access web sites normally. If the issue still occurs, try restarting the system and making sure that the VPN connection is still disabled.

*******************************************
If the issue is not resolved, restart and check in safe mode with networking - http://bit.ly/1LHcO2c
Enable the built in admin account and check if it works there - http://bit.ly/2gX7qE7
If it still does not work, then try the following links

I have no rights to save to anywhere or do anything, iTunes wouldn't let me sync because I "didn't have enough access privileges" but apparently that was something to do with the pictures, which then links back to me no longer having the rights to do anything on my computer. I ran the upgrade assistant and it showed me a list of what is and is not compatible w/the new OS. I proceeded to the next screen and it suggests the upgrade to windows 8 pro. My issue is that the current version of windows 7 is not genuine. Does the upgrade assistant not look to see if my OS is genuine or not? If I buy the upgrade version and try to install it, will it fail due to the current license not being genuine? I built this system myself, but I cannot find a system builder disc w/o going through amazon.com to get it and I'd really like to avoid them if I can.
