I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A bug in Win7's Media Player:
It can play video DVDs that have normal moving picture and sound. But if the picture is a non-moving still photo, the soud comes out with severe dropouts. As soon as the still photo is over and the picture is again a moving one, the sound is ok. An ordinary DVD player connected to a TV played the same DVD without hiccups.

Because the DVD was authored at home, the investigations were easy. The DVD was encoded using variable bitrate. Media Player's sound decoding can't handle the situation, where the video bitrate is low due the not changing picture. No matter, was the sound encoded using PCM, MPEG or Dolby Digital.

When the video in DVD was encoded using constant 6 Mbit/s bitrate MPEG-2, its sound played continuously also in Win7's Media Player. That was a good lesson to learn before giving out some material that must be generally playable.

I am attempting to restore Windows XP Media Center Edition on a Compaq Presario SR1750NX Desktop PC using the System Restore option activated by pressing F10. Upon pressing F10, the system appears to load the PC Restore files but when it tries to execute them, it generates the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

Notes:

No CD's are available as the machine shipped with the System Restore feature on a protected partition.
I would prefer a "restore" solution, as opposed to other reinstall options, in order to maintain use of additional software (such as Windows Office) that came preinstalled on the machine.

Questions:

Any suggestions on how I might clear the issue generating the error message so I can proceed with the system restore?
Any suggestions on how I might otherwise approach the problem?

Thanks in advance as any and all assistance is much appreciated.

A:Compaq Presario generates Fatal System Error when attempting PC Restore

If you decide you need the 2-CD system recovery disc kit for that Compaq Presario SR1750NX (EL445AA) desktop, you can purchase it from Computer Surgeons HP Recovery Center for $27.00 plus shipping.

That desktop was manufactured in November 2005, so HP will no longer have it available for purchase.

The kit will allow it to be reverted back to its original factory condition - complete with all the software and "bloatware" that came in it.

If the hard drive dies and needs to be replaced, the kit is going to be needed anyway to get that desktop going again.

Hi Everyone, I have done a few searches, and tried to solve this issue, but I cannot find a solution anywhere.

This one has had me stumped for a few days.

My new Lenovo T520 is behaving weirdly. It just randomly started happening on the evening of the 14th, and has continued since. My computer turns on, and everything loads, but then it just siezes up. I was able to open Task Manager, it shows my CPU Usage at 0%, and my memory usage at about 40% with 70 processes running.

Opening up Resource monitor, under disk, i shows my disk is constantly reading and writing. At first there was an SVCHost that was constantly reading - Superfetch, so I disabled this. I saw improved performance for one day. I did a system restore back to 3 days ago, and saw performance improvement once again for 1 day. I removed everything from startup, and turned off as many services as I could.

Under device manager, in the driver section, I found an error with the Security something driver (I cannot remember exactly, and my computer will not let me browse anywhere) so I uninstalled this driver. (I was going to update it in safemode, but it will not let me)

In the system event log, ever since the 15th, I am seeing lots of events, these events were for Computer Browser services not starting - services which I did not disable. (Maybe I did, but I set all services I turned off to Manual not Disabled, so it should have started when it was called).

Right now Resource Monitor shows these items writing to di... Read more

A:Win7 Slow, Freezing - Constantly writing to HDD

I'm having this same issue with my Lenovo Thinkpad T500. It boots fine but within 5 minutes of being turned on, it locks up with no programs opened. I've also noticed that the hard drive light is solid green and not blinking like it normally does. I've looked at the CPU usage while it's acting up and it says 0%. Sometimes when I try to open Task Manager or Resource Manager, they lock up or take forever to open. I have tried to scan the hard drive with MalwareBytes AntiMalware in safe mode but it locked up during the scan and would not finish.

Hey guys, I'm getting really frustrated and can't figure out what's wrong...

I have 4 HDD's, 1 is for my OS and the other 3 are data drives. When I used a program to write a file to my E: and F: data HDD I have no problem. But for some reason when I try to write to my G: HDD I get errors. All the settings are the same for the 3 data HDD's. All 3 HDD's are also being shared. But for some reason I can only read files from my G: HDD and not the E: or F:. Once again all the share settings are the same for the 3 HDD's. I guessing these problems are tied together somehow.

See if this works... I found out that Intel removed USB 2.0 chipset support from the Skylake chipset.  This means that normal USB installs for windows will not work.    The Microsoft Windows ISO DVD doesn't have the native USB 3.0 drivers either. So you have to add the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows ISO file. Intel came through on tihs one too.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.   https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Wi??ndows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility Run this and point to your USB Installation media and hopefully, W7 will install.

I recently had the misfortune of screwing up my Win7 installation beyond repair, restore points corrupted, you name it.  To the point, I began from scratch and have caught up pretty reasonably.  I noticed a new graphic driver previously not released while I was busy destroying my previous Win7 installation, and upon installing it discovered that every time I completed the installation, it would reboot, flash a few times (which video driver installations tend to do), then Aero would be turned off and a popup would say a restart was necessary due to 'changes made.' So I would restart, and even before I could login, I saw the flashing taking place as the login screen loaded.  Upon logging in, there it was again, 'restart due to changes.' This happened seven times.  I finally loaded a restore point from before it and things are fine now.  Here is a screenshot of iolo System Mechanic and Windows Update's visual of the driver.  I know my ProBook has interchangable GPU capabilities which has been the source of quite a bit of stress, so I wondered if this simply wasn't meant for my particular laptop, but I would like some insight from the community. Here are the pictures of the drivers: Can anyone verify or offer some insight to a very confused user of an otherwise amazing machine?  I always like to have the best graphic drivers possible for the gaming this laptop is capable of running (D3 at impressive FPS, WoW too.) A... Hey folks,

First of all hello everybody, great to be on board on this great forum!

I am a proud owner of Windows 7 Professional 64bit and a completely new PC since 2 Weeks.

Unfortunately I am facing some issues that I could not solve even through excessive searching on the web/forum.

My Issues:
1. My system is very slow when I am copying/moving data on my hdd. I.e. when I am copying data and watching a Movie at the same time, it is not possible without sudden pauses in playback. Another example: When I am copying/moving data on my hdd, I can not open new programs(even small ones!), and even working with already open programs(also even on tasks that do not require any or alot data from hdd) is a real pain. Now all of this was possible with a 10 year old pc with Windows XP Professional 32bit(!), so I am quite a bit dissapointed and have a hard time accepting anything along the lines "don't do more then one thing at once" etc...

2. It is also very slow recovering from sleep mode. Symptoms: Screen activates, I see the normal Desktop and the previously opened windows but I am unable to use any software for at least 30sec-2minutes, it's like windows has a hard time recovering data from the swap disk.

Now these two issues could most likely be related, right? One thing I did was to enable raid on my mainboard to be able to install intel smart response technology drivers prior to installing windows 7, so I could use a ssd later on to boost my hdd speed. My guess is t... Read more

Internet Explorer 11 fails to install on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 & repeatedly generates error code 9C47 or 9C49

Greetings,

I was asked to update our Windows 2008 R2 server from IE 10 to IE11, and it will not install properly.  I have looked up several solutions to this issue, so far nothing has worked.
I disabled McAfee HBSS in safe mode, restarted the PC and tried to run Windows Update managed by a WSUS server.  The update gets approved and pushed out to the 2008 R2 server.  It downloads IE11, tries to install, then fails/errors-out at the last
second. I have tried this a few times, rebooted and either get error code 9C47 or 9C49.

Some of the suggested fixes I have tried:

I turned of internet connectivity and the anti-virus
I tried the Windows Update repair tool
I tried the Windows System Readiness tool
I tried to scan the system files for errors with sfc /scannow
I tried installing the other updates first, restarting and it still fails
I removed the server listing from the WSUS server, and re-added it and it will not update
I tried the stand-alone IE11 installer, and it fails at the very last step and then gives me an error with a link to troubleshoot IE installations
I have uninstalled IE10, and now am stuck with Internet Explorer 9
RT returns no errors
SFC returns no errors

None of the recommendations have worked so far.

I'm running Win 7 (32bit) HP SP1. I'm having the same problem whether using IE8 or IE9.

If I set IE as my default browser I get an "Application not found" error whenever I click on a link which should open in a browser. Other browsers work just fine.

Makes no matter whether I use the IE > Tools > Internet Options to set IE as the default browser or Control Panel > Set Default programs I get the same error.
I am unable to use Default Programs > Set Associations to make IE default for HTTP, etc. because the IE icon is missing from the selection screens.

I tend to believe that restoring this icon is part of fixing the problem.

Google searches have led me to many suggested fixes (registry mods, etc.) but nothing has helped.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

Hello,  I recently bought a replacement battery for my T530, upgrading from the 6-cell to the 9-cell version. While I did not buy it from Lenovo, I bought it on ebay, the seller had very high ratings, and as far as I could tell it is genuine. It worked wonderfully for a few weeks, however yesterday upon boot-up I received the "Battery is not supported by this system and will not charge" error.  I don't understand how it could possibly be a counterfeit battery if it's worked fine up until now. I would really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

Hi
My system is running Win 7 Professional 32 bit with 4gig RAM
I am experiencing a problem installing a piece of software - Laplink PC Mover - I need to migrate to my new machine.
The installer starts and the grinds to a halt with the error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:

Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]Run from the Administrator user accountInstall in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexecUsing the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file....Verify that you have access to that directory

Thanks
I had tried a clean boot [disabling all non-MS services] but had the same problem.
In the end, I contacted Microsoft support who took remote control of the PC and reset permissions etc with "Repair Windows" from tweaking.com. Whole process took a few hours.
Cost me 65, but worth it to save my remaining hair!
Software then installed okay.

Recently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.
The error is;
Error opening files for writing.

Picture;

What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Win7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

If you need additional information, don't hesitate to ask.

Error 1310. Error writing to file c:\config.msi... verify that you have access to that directory.

A:Error 1310. Error writing to file c:\config.msi... verify

What you do when something like that pops up, like during an installer, is you Take Ownership of the folder or file - then click the box in the installer to try again.

You don't want to take ownership of all of C: though, so what you can do is place a dummy text file there, then rename it exactly as the problem file that can not be written. Take ownership of the dummy file (just for good measure). Now, the installer can overwrite it.

8 is a little different security-wise than previous operating systems, notably at root of drives like your example.

Adobe is famous for this issue when updating stuff like Reader, even on 7 and below.

You'll sometimes see similar errors pop up in other ways when trying to run software, like access violation, or 0x00000005. Sometimes, it's just a permission issue with some data it wants to access, crashing the software.

There are other advanced ways to give yourself (your Windows account) similar admin powers like 7 and below, using group policy editor.

I've got an old gateway box i'm buildnig for my sister. Everything thats in it is OEM to when it was my system. All except for its got no drives right now, just running off the OEM Mobo/cpu. I found a 10gig harddrive that just happened to have a copy of win98 on it. So i installed the harddrive, flashed the bios, booted it up, set the CMOS options to not look for any othe rdrives. It goes to the win98 loading screen and then goes to a blackscreen and says Error Writing to Drive C: and gives the usual retry, ignore, abort optinos. Retry/ignore dont get anything accomplished.

Any ideas? Might this harddrive be bad?
I hooked it up as a slave to my personal computer and scanned it for viruses. Nothing. Also created/deleted some files just to make sure that it could be written to. And it both created and deleted filess off of it.

A:Error writing to drive c?

maybe if you reinstall windows on the drive it may work. you could have a corrupted windows installation because you said it works as a slave...

I have a HP Deskjet 5150 printer and it works fine until I shut down the computer. When I turn it off and the back on and attempt to print, I get the following error: 'ERROR WRINTING TO USB001 DATA ERROR(CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK)' and doesn't print. I have to uninstall the printer, go into the registry, delete the usbprint key, and then reinstall everything again like I'm doing it for the first time and then it works again until I turn it off. Why is this happening? Is there something I can do to fix this? I'm running win98 second edition on a PII 350 with 256 RAM. This is driving me crazy...Please Help

At start up my computer recycles check disk/scan disk. There are no errors found but after indicating no errors at the bottom of the check disk/scan disk report, the message Error In Writing To The Output Log appears. Then the computer recycles, starting up again and running check disk.
The computer will boot up to a linux/puppy desktop by using an OS cd which runs only from the CD and RAM.
Sometimes the screen which gives a choice of startup options appears, but not always. It doesn't matter though because the keyboard will not work and allow me to choose to start up in Safe Mode.
I cannot run the XP disk to do repairs-the computer freezes before the repair options come on.
One time, right after I bought a new power supply today, the keyboard did work and I, instead of choosing Safe Mode chose to let it alone and start regularly. Well instead of starting up the computer continued to recycle.
In order to get into the BIOS I have to take out the battery or else pressing Delete will not get me into the BIOS instead just starting up to Checkdisk and recycling.

I recently got a windows vista laptop and every other time I write a DVD with photos the in windows program just stops working, it seems like it is fine but nothing is actually being written. Only way to then shut down the program is to manually reboot the computer.

Does anybody know if it is a hardware or software problem and if it is fixable.

A:Writing Disc Error

What program are you using to write to the DVD? DVD writing is a real PITA in Vista unless you use a compatible program (and even then, it's still a PITA!)!

I am as usual suffering from confusion.
I am using an HP A330.uk base unit with the standard dvd writer.
The computer knows it's there! The software knows it's there to the point of giving me the name of the drive and the fact it is +rw.

However having purchased 200 blank +dvds it only lets the program get part way thru a burn before ststing that there is an error.

The software states that it is due to a dirty blank disc (or fingerprints etc)

Is there something i am missing? Have any of microsofts updates been known to conflict with HP writers etc.

I tried using the same software on a laptop I own (also HP and also found by the computer) and again get write errors. Even when i attempt to use XPs own "Write files to drive E"

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved

I am trying to install a local HP Deskjet 990 CXI on a Compaq Machine running NT4.0. After installing the printer and driver, I get the following error when trying to print a test page.
"Printers Folder"
"Error Writing to LPT1-for document Test Page. The system could not file the specified file"

The printer is set to use LPT1. I have re-installed the printer and drivers several times. Also, I tried a new printer cable.

Any suggestions to fix this problem? Installing a local printer should be straightforward, but not this time.
Any Help is appreciated.

A:Error Writing to LPT1

Before doing anything, do you have another printer you can hook up to the LPT port for testing?

Check your BIOS setttings for your printer port. Try switching the port to ECP mode. Reboot and reinstall the printer.

I have been trying to burn a DVD using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9. Every time I try to do this it seems as though it is working and will even start to burn the DVD, but I then end up with the message "Failed to start the image writing operation. Error while burning image 8000 4003". The DVD will play the first few minutes of the video recorded, but then stop. I have tried recording from a MPEG 2 file as well as from a ISO image, and continue to get the same error message. I have tried to burn a DVD using the Windows XP media program, and that too will get to about 80% complete and the give the message of a"Creation Error". I have gone through about 20 blank DVD +R's so far. I need to get this running before graduation time so I can record my son's graduation on DVD to send to the family. I would be grateful if someone had the solution to this dilemma.

I am having the same problum and when I saw your letter I immediatly thught maybe the answer was here. Instead I filled out a long long form and then came back here to find that you had not gotten a reply, thus I did not iether. Who is this "Tech Guy" with the answer to this problem. There are a lot of people out there with the same problem and no answer in sight. There are more advertisers than useful fixes.

Hello Syter, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if right clicking on the Quicktime installer, and clicking on Run as administrator may help to install with the needed access rights.

Hope this helps,

I've tried running them as admin, tried running them without UAC, and even tried to change the temp location from environment variables but it doesn't change. Is there any fix or an installer file I can download and reinstall to fix the microsoft installers? (win7 x64)

Have you checked what event viewer is saying? Type eventvwr in search. Go to the windows log>application tab and look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that say app hang, app crash, etc.. note the event ID and source code and relay them to us

Let us know if you need help
