I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

OK don't panic i have no plans to upgrade to win 10 anytime soon however i would like to take advantage of the free upgrade to win 10 and keep the ISO file and the win 10 SN's.
I have Win 7 U x64 running on a 250GB SSD (C Drive, which is only used in an emergency) and then the main OS which again is a win 7 U x64 of a 500GB SSD (D Drive) which is what i use 99% of the time, drive C is only used if some reason drive D goes t1ts up and i can go into C drive and get files of that way, any how i know there used to be an app called "MediaCreationToolx64" which you ran and it would download the win 10 ISO and install win 10 and convert your win 7 key into legal win 10 key and allow you to upgrade that way.

So my plan is to back up whole of drive C&D to a 500GB SSD (E Drive) then go about running the "MediaCreationToolx64" tool to do the download and install for both C & D drive get the windows 10 key from each drive then burn to ISO's and keep for a later date, just in case i do want to go 10 route.

ISSUES:
I have heard that win 10 messes about with my partitions, anyone know anything about this? If it does would it be best to just disconnet all drives from PC apart from C,D & E (as i have another 9 drives in the case) or will it be ok to leave in, and are there any other issues i should be made aware off, I have no plans to move to 10 full time but i'm just being safe and saving myself the cost of windows 10 when the free ver... A:Upgrading to windows 10 before July 29th

You won't get a key after installing Win10. To be able to do a future install (fresh or update) you have to had it installed once on your computer. MS will record an MB ID (probably the network MAC address) and will activate future installations on the MB you have used to do the fist install.
To do so you have two options: Install Win 10 on a HDD or on drive C:
On drive C: you have two options: Fresh install or update.
On a HDD you're going to do a fresh install.
Disconnect your drive D: or any other drive you have from the MB.
- To do a update on your installed Win 7 on drive C:, boot on drive C:, create a USB with MediaCreationToolx64 then run setup on it. Leave the key blank. It will activate because you've updated a Win 7 installation.
- To do a fresh install, on drive C: or on a HDD, create a USB with MediaCreationToolx64 and boot from it. When asked for the Key, put the Win7 U key you have. When finished, it will activate as well.

My suggestion is to do a fresh install on a spare HDD or a SSD. That's what I did. Also install Classic Shell (Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements), so it looks like Win7.
I didn't like Win10. Didn't add nothing useful, and if you disable all the tracking and spy, many features, like Cortana, won't work. Some win7 features won't be there, as games and Classic them.

Hello everyone,

Sorry if this question is stupid. But if I upgrade today will it still be free? According to some websites the price goes up on the 30th, but microsoft itself seems to state very strongly that the price goes up on the 29th.
If I update now will I have to pay for it?

Please let me know.
Thank you so much.

~Drew956
(P.s. I tried updating yesterday before the hard-n-fast deadline, but deleted an android partition and messed up the bootloader, preventing me from loading Windows. I fixed that this morning, but alas, it is the 29th now. So I am wondering if I can still get the free upgrade?)

I already know about the trick where you update then revert, and the computer you updated on will be able to upgrade again for free after July 29th, but what if I won't have the computer I want to upgrade until after this date?

I'm getting a MacBook Air in August. I like how any programs made for Macs will work (for the most part) because each Mac has set specs, but I'm not a huge fan of the Mac OS. But then I learned about dual booting on Mac, and so I thought that if I dual booted Mac and Windows I'd get the best of both worlds. But then I learned that Windows 10 will only be free until July 29th, so is there a way I can 'reserve' the copy until then? Or will I just have to pay the $119 if I really want to do it?

A:Can I get Win10 for free after July 29th this year?

Someone else might think of a way but the answer is no. You can't get a free upgrade after 7/29.

However I am now a bit concerned that come "D-Day", the app will automatically download the installation files (or at least a significant amount of them) on 29th July - but I would like to take complete control over the upgrades as some of my computers require some preparation & research prior to upgrade.

Can someone clarify for me ?

It's 2009 but I still have no idea if and when Windows 7 will be released in this year. Man I am keeping my fingers crossed for May to June. I have seen the screenshots and even a few imitation skins that allows a Windows 7 look ion Vista as a theme. They look great and I can just imagine how the real thing will look. I am not really a fan of the new taskbar yet but I may have to tweak settings to make it look as dark as Vista's. Everything else seems familiar even with a few improvements but pleasing none-the-less. As for Windows Media Player 12, I have not tried it yet but it looks interesting so it may grow on me. It's funny though how when Vista was coming out everyone wanted a copy and bittorrent was in full gear. PC people wanted to test it out by any means and bittorrent was the place. They even came out with pre-activated versions so people could use it permanently in x32, x64, etc. I heard people managed to achieve such things but others who tried the invalid route got a wake up call when Windows confirmations came up and froze the software OS. What will happen in Seven? Will there be tighter restrictions like as I mentioned or will it be looser with XP and ME? Or will piracy get the better of Microsoft? Will it be as easy to use Win 7 without having to enter a bag of keys from sources? MS has been giving away betas of Win 7 and it has been buzzed about for months now. Is this sincere or a trap? Is this some kind of reverse psychology thing to catch bootleggers? What... Read more

Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5?! Wow! I can't wait. I am gonna need a blank DVD to burn it to and use. I hope it is sturdy and doesn't crash or have too many bugs it it. What I don't know it how long that setup version on the hard drive will last. Will it last until the full and final thing is out?

Is Windows 7 likely, or very likely to come with their final version of the software this year or does it look more like 2010? I am hearing conflicting results all over the web. What's going on and when can we Windows users use Windows 7 RC as long as we want without having to get a license and upgrade or whatever.

I am kinda bored or Vista now. I want something new. I also need to try WMP12. I wonder how much hard drive space is needed to run Windows 7, beta, rc or otherwise...hmmm. Fo' shizzle!

A:Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5

You don't have to burn Win7 on DVD to install, you can make it by mounting image to virtual drive and running installation from your current OS level. And this is not system update, just clean install. Installer copies files to hard drive, reboots and installs.

Windows 7, the next major release of the world's most popular operating system, will be officially available to the public on 22 October.Microsoft is hoping it can avoid the negative press that surrounded the launch of Vista, the last major Windows release, almost three years ago.Windows 7 has been designed to be compatible with Vista so users do not have to invest in new hardware.Customers who buy a new PC with Vista will be offered upgrades to Windows 7.Quoted Story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8081003.stmLooks like Microsoft rushed it through a bit quicker than was anticipated, if I remember right originally it was forecast for the 1st Quarter of 2010, then a few weeks ago it was forecast to come out around the Holiday Season (USA) which is after or around Thanksgiving I think? (last week in November) and now it is out a month earlier than estimated a few weeks ago.I haven't tried it myself so don't know what it is like other than what I have heard, I might buy it around or after Christmas and upgrade the Vista system on my Laptop, would help the Start-Up/Shutdown sequence on it takes quite a while for my tastes, about 45 seconds start-up (before logging in) and about 1 min to shutdown although I've cut the shutdown to about 30 seconds with a small tweak to force programs to close down quicker.EDIT: Should have checked before I posted, seems someone posted it last night - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/231213/windows-7-release-date-announced/, Seems to... Does anyone know a specific date for the release of the x64 version of the connector software for Windows Home Server?

A:Windows Home Server connector software (x64) release date?

Hi

The x64 Connector will be bundled in with Windows Home Server Power Pack 1 which Microsoft have slated (somewhat vaguely) as shipping in the first half of 2008.

My hunch is that we won't see this in Q1. As soon as a date is released we'll announce it over at We Got Served (We Got Served - The Windows Home Server Site)

By now, our readers know that Windows 10 is slated to be released to manufacturing this July. Popular shopping site Newegg has apparently and likely inadvertently revealed the general availability date for Windows 10, by listing a pre-order of Windows 10 Pro OEM. According to Newegg (first spotted by WinSupersite), Windows 10 Pro OEM will run for $149.99 and will be available on the 31st of August.

Microsoft has yet to reveal the price tiers for the different Windows 10 editions (you can read more about that here) and there's a chance that this information may just be a place holder for Windows 10 on Newegg. For example, Windows 7 is also listed for $149.99. For now, we suggest taking this with a huge grain of salt. Here's a cached version of the Newegg listing on Google in case it gets removed.

Hi all,

I've been gone for a few weeks due to me getting a contract out of the area and working 18hr. days helping the people of Florida regroup after the hurricanes that went through there. My buddy told me that he had gmail and was going to send me the invite so that I to may have gmail but when I got back from Florida, there wasn't any invite and he said that he did send it.

I asked him if he knew when it was going to be available to the public and he said that he wasn't sure and that if he got another invite he was going to send it to me.

I was just wondering if anyone knew when it's going to be released and if anyone knew how I could get my hands on an invite. I thought about buying one from ebay, but I'm not to comfortable doing that. My boss even said that it wasn't a good idea to do that so I'm just trying to see if we are just being paranoid or if we are in the right to be so leary about it.

Any information will be helpful, I'm not asking for an invite, just a means as to how I can get one. Thanks, kiregar

The copyright date on the first version of the Service Manual is April, 2016 and another version was published in August so it is a fairly current model. It is a 6th gen Intel Core and the latest is 7th gen but not a lot of upgrades, except as pointed out here, on a 6th gen you could run Windows 7, but 7th gens will never run Windows 7.  It does not have USB-C which is the latest connection but as far as I can tell not many people are clamoring for USB-C.  Warranty runs from date of retail purchase so as long as you buy it new retail you will have full warranty on it.  Models 15-ay1xxx would have a 7th gen processor. They share the same Service Manual so no other major differences.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.
