Preferred Solution: Running windows 8 but need Notepad XP for shared windows xp printer. Download windows xp notepad to windows 7 OS?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,
Windows 7 version of notepad comes with some annoying features when codeing.
Is there anyway I can revert back to the XP version of notepad?
Thanks

A:Solved: Revert from Windows 7 notepad to Windows XP notepad

If you are running Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate you can install XP Mode. This would allow you to launch the XP version of Notepad as a Virtual App. Otherwise you could just try copying over the executable of Notepad from an install of XP to your Windows 7 computer.

Why don't you actually use a text editor that has syntax highlighting for your coding. I have been using Notepad++ for many years now and have not turned back.

I am running Windows XP Home v2002 SP2

My IE will not open, it just flashes and closes. I have tried running with no add-ons, repairing, reinstalling, and installing newer version, all with the same results.
My WMP is not able to be updated, attempts to update and freezes. Also unable to install newer version successfully.
As of a while ago, my Notepad application seemed to just disappear.
When Windows updates it always seems to hang up before completing, and is also running increasingly more sluggish. Some Windows applications, like System Info among others, will not open.

I have run all sorts of virus/spyware scans and have found traces of Virtumonde and Smitfraud on my system. I have also had the Windows Security Antivirus - 2009 prompt pop on me a while back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have tried to research what I can for so long I have forgotten where I am at in all this.

Hi,

I am in need of some advise!

Every time we start the computer, Notepad pops up with the message 'the system could not find the specified path'.

Every time we close it, it keeps on popping back up.

It's really slowing down the computer.

We've ran all of the general spyware/virus scans and can not find anything obvious.

All replies are much apreciated.

Thanks

P.S. if this issue has been raised before, can i please have a link to the thread.

Not exactly sure what you are asking but by right clicking the notepad and then properties it will list the path. If you are unable to locate the file then go to start search\find and type the name of the notepad you saved in the files and folders input window. Another way to locate the file would be open another notepad and click the save as function and it will open and display the normal folder it likes to use. After you discover what folder it is you can cancel the save as and close the empty notepad with no save.

A:Windows Notepad

Nothing is ever totally deleted when right clicking and then clicking "delete" on a file. This is why there is dedicated computer forensics departments at large companies, FBI, CIA, etc, etc.

One can retrieve just about anything via computer forensics if you have the right tools and knowledge of how to do so. There are ways to completely wipe drives, but even those methods aren't totally safe. A lot of times data can still be retrieved (all though it does take considerably longer to do so).

Notepad has a restriction where carriage returns need to be formatted exactly as it needs, while a lot of programs don't follow the required convention. You can't really fix it, and as you've found out a lot of other programs read carriage returns in several formats (including Wordpad).

One fix suggested here mentioned copying the text to word and back, which will format carriage returns correctly: windows 7 - Notepad ignoring linebreaks - Super User . It also contains some background information.

This will be a hidden folder, so make sure you are able
to view hidden files and folders by going to control
panel, appearance and personalization, show hidden
files and folders (in the folder options section). A
window will pop up and in the list of options, instead of
boxes like the rest of the choices, there are two
circles. One says don't show hidden files, folders, or
drives, and the other says show hidden files, folders,
and drives. Click show, then apply. Alright now back to
where I pointed you before. Once you go to that
location, there will be a file there called "debug" that
is a notepad file, just delete that little monster and
you are free of this hassle!

Hi.
I have a Lenovo Y50 laptop with Windows 8.1 in Italian. I recently found out that the hotkey Ctrl + S is not working on the default Windows Notepad.

Other hotkeys with Ctrl are working.File -> Save is working.Close Window -> Save is working.Only Ctrl + S is not working. My Ctrl and S key are working.
I also tested it on another laptop (Alienware with Windows 8.1) and Ctrl S is not working on the default Windows Notepad.
This is not really an issue since I use other software (for example Notepad++, where Ctrl + S works), but it's more of a bug report... If this is the wrong place to report it, please tell me where to report it.

A:Ctrl S not working in Notepad only - Windows 8.1

Hi DanieleEsposito,
Thanks for updating.
I made a test again, I installed the Italian language on my Windows 8.1 Enterprise machine and changed all the configurations to Italy.
The "Ctrl+S" of the Notepad worked all the time. There may be some other reasons to be digged out deeply. We can configured other language as preferred and changed it back to reset the keyboard configuration to have a check.
Since this issue won`t be reproduced, I am afraid it`s not reasonable to report it as a bug. A bug should be reproduced all the time.

Hello there,

I have a pc with win. vista 32bit who has attached to it a Konika Minolta Bizhub 163 copier (who does not have a network card).
All computers on the network that are running windows xp or vista, 32bit or 64bit are connecting and printing without problems but the machines that are running windows 7 32bit or 64bit are not.
Windows 7 machines, are able to connect to the shares on that machine, read or write files, can see the shared printer but when it comes to connecting to it they all fail with the same error: Could not connect to printer, error 0x0000000d.

I've tried defining a local port with the name address of the printer, ip port with the ip of the print server, i have been searching the microsoft database and nothing i found so far didn't help me.

The fun part is that they all worked fine before but suddenly windows 7 machines stopped printing.
In that day or previous days, the print server did not installed any updates (has updating feature turned off), nobody did anything to it, neither to the other machines (actually they all had updating feature turned off, because we do not love microsoft "fixes" and blue screens).

So, any suggestions for me from the community?

Hello, I have a strange problem with the Notepad Jump List on my Win7/64 system.
I'm running Win7/64 Ultimate, and I found my Notepad Jumplist has stopped functioning.
I followed through all the details in this thread here:
 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/92b90228-2f08-4558-9c4d-6e66e103a5cf/jump-list-history-location?forum=w7itprogeneral
And also here:
https://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/139211-recent-notepad-files-txt-not-displayed-any-more.html

What's very strange, is I have verified that the 64bit notepad.exe is the one being used, however suddenly the jumplist file that's being updated is the one that has the 32 bit AppID.
So under the directory %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
for 64bit the file which should be updated is;
9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms
But instead, the system has now created and updates the file with the 32bit AppID of;
918e0ecb43d17e23.customDestinations-ms

I've tried deleting both these files, rebooting. and it always comes back the same.
With the 9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms deleted, the jump list does not show in the start menu at all, and the file does not get recreated.
Instead, the 32bit type file "918e0ecb43d17e23.customDestinations-ms" gets created and updated.
Then if I manually put back the 64bit "9b9cdc69c1c24e2b.automaticDestinations-ms", the Notepad jump list with that content reappears in the start m... Read more

A:Gateway notepad windows XP home edition

It does have some value but you'll have to decide whether you want to put Windows 7 or Windows 8 on it, probably will cost about $100 or more/less to get a copy. Then there's the issue of having drivers available for the devices on the motherboard, if not part of Win7/Win8 would have to see if Gateway has them. There is a Win7 Compatibility site you can use to determine what will or will not work.

If push comes to shove with an Upgrade not being viable you could do as I did with a couple of Notebooks and put a version of Linux on it [I used Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon] instead of throwing it out.
WinXP support has been discontinued by Microsoft and only Vista could Upgrade over it, Win7/Win8 has to be a clean install.

I have a small office with three computers in a workgroup configuration. Two of the computers are Windows 10 (one being where all the shared files are stored) and one is a Windows 7 computer. The Windows 7 computer has a shared HP Laserjet 4 printer and
up until a couple days ago the one Windows 10 computer could print to the Laserjet on the Windows 7 computer with no problem and has been doing so for at least two years.
Here are the things that I checked: The Windows 7 computer's network type is set to a "Work" network; the Windows 10 computer is set to "Private". Both computers have network discovery and filesharing turned on and their workgroup name
is the same. On the Windows 10 computer in the credentials manager the proper credentials have been entered to give that computer access to the printer on the Windows 7 computer. I checked the sharing and security properties of the printer on the Windows 7
computer and they seem to be correct.
On the Windows 10 computer when I attempt to browse the network I can't see either the Windows 10 file server or the Windows 7 computer although the mapped drive to the computer with shared files seems to work fine.

Any ideas?

PAJAK? Semua hal kena pajak!
Barang mewah kena pajak, nabung di bank tiap bulan potong pajak,
penghasilan kena pajak, sampai makanan pun kena pajak.
Indonesia penuh dengan pajak! Tidak heran penuh pembajak.
Orang bijak bayar pajak, takut pajak jadi pembajak.

Hi.
is there a way to change windows 8 notepad default character script?
the default is western and i have to change every time to my selection.

A:Windows 8, how to change Notepad default character script

Yes that is correct that you have to change the font for Notepad. Notepad is not really meant to be used as a Word processor. It is really a leftover from the early days of Windows/GEM.

I wish to add a line of code on a windows system 32 file with notepad and notepad will not allow me to save the change. Is there another editing tool that I can use that will enable me to update the file.
Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Trouble with saving an appended windows file with notepad

Make sure you have write permissions for the system32 directory, and that the file itself is not read-only.

For school my wife had to download and open Word, Excel and PDF documents from a school website and co-students and research topics on the web. Even though I have Norton Internet Security 2011 installed on this computer, about a month into the term, Word documents began to autoscroll while she was reading her book in front of the computer (without touching the mouse or keyboard). Focus would auto switch between 2 open Word docs without touching the mouse or keyboard. Once she left the computer running and when she came back there were 7 open notepad documents that were blank but when she went to close them it said there was a large amount of info in the clipboard. Unfortunately she didn't know to paste and save the clipboard to see what the contents were. In preparing this posting and trying to read the .txt log files, Notepad kept autoscrolling to the right so I could not read the contents of the file. And when I grab the scroll bar and force it back to the left Notepad would rip it back to the right before I could read anything! Also when trying to work in any dialog window like a "Save As" window, if the mouse passed over any pull-down list (file type, etc.), it would autoscroll and select each option from top to bottom until it stopped on the last item in the list. It was like the mouse was auto-clicking on every entry in the list. While trying to perform a backup using Acronis, the Save As dialog window has a list with things that can be appended onto t... I noticed my computer began to slow down a few days ago, so I did a virus scan. When it was done, I deleted all of the infected files except for one because my program (Trend Micro) said it could not delete it. Or quarantine it for that matter. It identified the file as notepad.dll and told me it was a trojan.I searched for the file to manually delete it to no avail. I couldn't find it in its specified location, so I turned my computer off.The next day when I turned it back on (and every time since then), two boxes have popped up:Box 1The application or DLL C:\DOCUME~1\CHRISC~1\ntload.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.Box 2Error loading C:\DOCUME~1\CHRISC~1\ntload.dll%1 is not a valid Win32 application.I searched for answers to these problems, which led me to this forum.I ran all of the things asked of me and I will post the first DDS, and attach the other 2 logs (attach and ark) as requested.I would like to note that it seems the longer my computer remains on, the slower it gets. Also, after I ran all of the scripts (or whatever they are called), my computer flipped on me and went to a blue screen with the following message:STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}The Windows SubSystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x10001b6b 0x0053e15c).The system has been shut down.Needless to say, I had to turn off my computer and reboot.Thank you for all of your help!... Hey

I've been having a few issues recently with some programs with reside within the system32 folder, as said in the title paint, notepad and calculator. Explorer is having a different issue so I'll discuss it later.

The 3 programs listed are constantly crashing. Notepad and calculator are having significantly bigger issues than paint right now, however they all have the same issue.

Whenever I open one of these programs, it'll either be a few letter (numbers for calculator) and it'll crash, with the generic error message "xxxx has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution". This problem happens consistently.

Explorer on the other hand, is behaving oddly. Every couple days (sometimes multiple times in a day) my toolbar will not pop itself back up (I have it set to autohide). While the trace of the hidden toolbar is visible, no moving of the mouse (even when on the desktop to avoid 'always on top' programs taking priority) on the toolbar will bring it back up. This usually results in just killing explorer.exe and re-running it.

Thanks,
Fuzz Ball

A:Problems with Paint, Notepad, Calculator and Windows Explorer

I would start with the System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If it finds errors it cannot fix, post the sfcdetails.txt as mentioned in Option Three

Recently I've got infected with some viruses.after some days when i tried to open notepad it showed that 'Windows cannot find C:\WIndows\System32\notepad.exe'. Same happened with Registry Editor . Some other files in the WIndows Folder and Microsoft office showed same Error.
Even my AVG Tuneup Utilities also.
I tried System restore and sfc/scannow also but no luck !
please help me

A:Windows Cannot Find Notepad.exe make sure you have typed correctly.

Does C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe exist?
Check the path environment variable, make sure

C:\WINDOWS\system32
C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem

are included in it.
Right click on This PC
Select Properties

Click on Advanced System Properties on the left

On the Advanced tab, click on Environment Variables
Under System Variables, scroll down to Path
Select it (Path) then click Edit

An easy way to look at all of it is to right click on the highlighted Variable Value field and select copy, then start Notepad and paste the data into there. That way you can easily look at all of it.

It's also a lot easier to make changes in Notepad then copy and paste the changed data back into the Path Variable Value field.

Hello!

I have had some problems with my new Windows 7 laptop. The computer is an Acer Aspire 7739Z. A typing problem has appeared twice today. Both times, it happened as I was using Notepad, although I don't know if it was the cause. As I was using it, suddenly I couldn't type anything. The only keys that worked resulted in some commands (if I remember correctly, pressing P resulted in the printing window appearing, T caused the search bar to appear). The same problems appeared in Internet Explorer. The mouse also stopped working correctly, zooming pages in and out when I tried to scroll down. Copying text didn't work properly, either, as it highlighted longer parts of the text instead of a single letter. The problems disappeared when I restarted the computer but appeared again after I had used Notepad for a while.

As I haven't used Windows 7 for long, I don't know if I accidentally triggered some new feature but I couldn't find an answer to my problem or repeat it when I tried to find out what caused it. I have never had this problem on any other computer or system (I have used both XP and Vista for years).

I hope there is a solution to this problem.

A:Keyboard and mouse problem in Windows 7 (Notepad-related?)

Hi-

To me it sounds like the CTRL key is sticking. This could be caused by dirt, grime, dust, ect. getting physically into the keyboard. I would use a can of compressed air to try to clean out the keyboard. It could also be a hardware problem with the keyboard (possibly needing to be replaced) see if you can try another keyboard. Thirdly it can be software, but being that it is the hardest of them to diagnose, try the other two first.

Regards,

Mark

Really strange problem.

Hardware: Acer TravelMate 2300
OS: Windows XP

It seems like somehow the CTRL key was made into some sort of a hot-key.

When I hit it in Windows Explorer, Notepad, it closes that window. Not only can I not use CTRL-C,V,X etc but if I am using Notepad and hit CTRL it will close that Notepad window without giving me the opportunity to save my work.

In other applications pressing CTRL key does nothing (or rather CTRL key behaves as it is supposed to, CTRL-C works, etc)

I've searched the Microsoft knowledge base up and down and found nothing relevant. I also browsed thru the manual for this Laptop and, although possible, I don't think that it's some sort of "feature" Acer provides and can be customized. Acer has no knowledgebase.

HELP. This not only slows down me down, but more than once I lost 10-15 minutes of work. I try not to press the CTRL key, but this is a small laptop keyboard.

Do not suspect viruses, I have two layers of virus scanners.....
