Preferred Solution: Yahoo Home Page changes today(jan.26,2005)?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Look-Today home page

Hi Jody and welcome to TSF.. :)

There's nothing directly related in your log to Look-Today, although I do see one file that needs to go. Have you reset your homepages to Google before posting the log?

Also you are running an old version of HJT, so could you please open HJt, click on Config | Misc. Tools | Check for Update online and follow the promts to get the latest one, which is V1.98.0, and then reboot and post a new log. That way it should show up the problem.

My Yahoo home page and related yahoo pages won't display ads, does anyone know how to fix this. I have uninstalled IE8 reinstalled it, restored advanced settings and reset internet explorer it worked for a short while after i did this now its playing up again. Really annoying, I get the usual diagnose internet connection and of course ther is nothing wrong with it. I forgot to say its windows 7 pro I am running, I would update to IE9 but I hate it if only they kept the layout the same as IE8
Thank you in advance

A:My Yahoo home page and related yahoo pages won't display ads

Just Yahoo? If so it is probably their problem. They have lots of them. It may resolve or may not. That's the beauty of Yahoo.

If you see it on other sites then it is something with your system. Maybe a program you have is blocking ads from displaying. I know I had an issue with SpywareBlaster doing that.

Sorry to start a new thread, but most of the stuff I've read here is older and doesn't seem to apply.

Running Sys 7 and Firefox ver. 26. Yahoo hijacks my home page. I've run a variety of malware programs with no joy. I suspect Yahoo has installed a "hidden" add-on, although I'm not 100% sure of that. I've uninstalled anything that has Yahoo connected to it also Spigot...no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Don

If so, you should post that you are receiving help here and mark the topic solved otherwise you might end up with conflicting advice.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
Please copy and paste log back here.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please also paste that into your reply.

I can't open Yahoo.com. I have it set as my home page and it will not open. Others in my office can open it and I can open any other website. I have scanned my PC with two different virus programs and with spybot, cleared my cache and deleted all internet files and cookies. Still no luck! Any suggestions?

A:Yahoo Home Page!

Hi Troon

Search your system for a "hosts" or "lmhosts" file. You might find a few or none. the ones you want to open will have no extension, and when you double-click them to open it, it will prompt you with what program you want to open it with. select Notepad.

If you open it, and it has loads of entries, then hit Ctrl+F to open search, and look for yahoo.

it may look like the following yahoo.com

If you find it, delete it. delete all the ones you find referring to yahoo, as there could be many variations listed, such as yahoo.co.uk, my.yahoo.com, *.yahoo.com, etc
The hosts files act as a redirect, so when you go to a site that is listed in there, it redirects your command to the address listed in front of it, in the case above, to your local system, and will usually only display a 404 error page.

Using this file is a handy way to block access to adsites, porn sites, or any site you want

This is a really stupid question. I have always used Yahoo as my home page. It has always had a gray background. I had to have my computer worked on and now it has this blinding white background. I used My Yahoo to personalize my colors and they appear as they should in my yahoo, but as soon as I go back to the home page, there is that blinding white background. My other computers have the gray background. Can anyone tell me how to fix this stupid problem?

A:Yahoo home page

This is actually a very good question.

Open IE and go to Tools > Internet Options > General > Colors

Uncheck the Use Windows colors box. The 'Background' color should default to grey. If not, just click on the button and select the color you desire.

Note: This will only effect the pages that do not have a background color specified in it's coding (such as the Yahoo main page) but will not effect those pages that do have the background color coded (such as the TSG pages).

My Yahoo! home page is not coming up when i open my browser. I'm wondering if this problem is just with me or with everyone. the my yahoo logo is there. the top half of the page is black with a white square in it and the bottom half is white. when i move my mouse over the white square i get a message that says "click here to activate these controls". I've been experiencing this problems since i got back online an hour ago. i had been away since the morning of the 18th and my computer has been off since then, and i have not accessed my yahoo page either

A:My Yahoo! home page problems.

I'm having the same problem with my My Yahoo home page. The problem has nothing to do with the browser I'm using (e.g. Firefox or IE). The problem definitely seems to be with Yahoo. I've used My Yahoo as my home page for years and have never encountered this problem until the last few weeks which seems to coincide with Yahoo's effort to push people to its Mail service. If this is not a coincidence, I'm at a loss to understand why Yahoo would messing with its My Yahoo page content. Unfortunately, there is no way to contact Yahoo from its portal page so there does not appear to be a way to discuss the problem with Yahoo. Perhaps someone at this site can speak with someone at Yahoo and get some answers. Thanks.

Can anyone offer assistance?

This problem started about 2 weeks ago.

First, my home page is yahoo, and I have a my yahoo page set up with the links that I like. I used to be able to hit the "my yahoo" button on the standard yahoo start page, but this button dissapeared? After this I had to access my yahoo through a yahoo search, followed by going to the login page to access the "my yahoo" page. Then this morning, I found that I was not able to access this page at all - it just comes up completely blank? In between these 2 occurrances, I noticed a couple of pages that I used to visit were coming up as "page currently not available"?

I tried a "system restore" point in XP to no avail.

Can anyone help? I hope this is the correct forum - I'm new here.

Many thanks in advance.

A:IE explorer - yahoo home page

Hi Jim welcome to TSF

First, try going up to TOOLS>Internet Options and delete cookies and temporary files, then on the Programs Tab click on 'Re-set websettings'.

Follow that with a scan here:-

Then with your XP CD in a drive go to Start>Run and type sfc /scannow - press the OK key and allow the file checker time to verify and replace any damaged IE files.

If that doesn't help I would suggest doing a post on the High-Jack-This board which has people who specialise in detecting and removing malware:-

If there is anything on the intro that you have not yet tried then follow the advice offered and see if that helps, if not, do a post (on the HJT board not this one) describing your problem and what you have tried so far.

A:Yahoo! home page won't open

Nothing in the world is free. Your VLC Media player was either affected by a virus or the gift of search.com as your search engine was part of the price of using VLC.
Several things to do
If its a virus make an anti virus scan.
Download and make a full scan with malwarebytes. If it is a virus they should be able to remove it.
If that does not work try to change your default search engine.
Change or choose a search provider in Internet Explorer
Finally, what may have happened, is that you misssed the option when you downloaded VLC. Many times you have to untick a box that gives you these extra gifts.
With System Restore remove VLC. Then reinstall, very carefull read everything before clicking ok

Did Yahoo Change it's homepage, or are they in the process of doing that? On my Windows 10 desktop PC, the two pages have different layouts. Firefox directs to the old version of Yahoo's homepage. I have been unable to permanently increase the size of the text on Yahoo's home page in Firefox 2.0. I have gone under Tools, Options, even the Advanced Option to uncheck the over-ride prompt that allows web-pages to use their own font sizes. No luck.

If you have Firefox 2.0, trying going to Yahoo's home page, and see if you notice a difference in increasing text sizes from the Tools, Options Menu. I don't.

However, I CAN increase Yahoo's Home Page text size from the View Menu. But as you guys know, that affect is only temporary. I can also increase the text size going through Tools and Options for any other page or site that I go to EXCEPT Yahoo's home page. The only exception with this Yahoo issue is changing the size of Monospace Fonts in Firefox. But the effects are very subtle.

When I am in Canada, my Yahoo home page opens in Internet Explorer with the URL, http://ca.yahoo.com/?p=us, even though my Internet Options is set to http://www.yahoo.com/. So Internet Explorer automatically changes my home page.
This does not happen with Firefox and it is very bothersome to have a Canadian Yahoo page open instead of the American page when I am in Canada.
I have spoken with my Canadian ISP and they cannot do anything about it since Firefox operates appropriately.
Can someone help me with this? Thank you, jschmitt33

A:opening american yahoo home page while in canada

You can change it in google but not it Yahoo.

Yahoo automatically detects the country you are in and it will automatically route you to their homepage, say you're in canada then it will be ca.yahoo.com and if you're in hongkong then it will be hk.yahoo.com... You can type www.yahoo.com in the address bar to go there manually.

Still having issues running Mozilla. Now I can't load my home page Yahoo.com. It says it can't find the page. Takes many tries to eventually get it. Have it bookmarked. Have it under Internet Options as home page. Took it off of IE as home page and left that blank in case it was conflicting. Any ideas. Jackie

A:Just installed Mozilla - can't load Yahoo as home page

I have Firefox and I notice I cant get in yahoo chat without an auto reload page activated with an IE logo on it. I'm not sure what the issue is with yahoo and mozilla/firefox..... but everything else with yahoo runs fine... if no luck here, maybe ask a moderator here to move this thread to the browser forum.

I use the customized MyWay home page with Google in the address bar as my primary search engine and it works as it should. I have Yahoo set as a secondary search in the search bar at the top of the screen. When I click on the search bar the Yahoo search engine appears as it should on the left side of the screen. When I run a search the web page results appear as they should along the left side of the screen. However, when I click on one of them to open it, nothing happens---none of the web pages will open.

This is a recent occurrence as I have used this page in this same configuration for years and it has worked perfectly. Apparently there is some setting somewhere that prevents the results of the Yahoo search (web pages) from opening.

Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Internet home page keeps reverting back to Yahoo Search

Click on the Start button ? Settings ? System ? Apps & Features ? Look for anything similar to "searchinternet-aa-kama-ihd" and uninstall it.
After, click the Windows flag key + R and in the open run field type: inetcpl.cpl (Press enter)
Click on the Programs tab ? Manage Add-ons and look for anything related to "searchinternet-aa-kama-ihd", uninstall/remove...
Go back to the General tab and reset your home page. See if that helps any.

A strange thing just started that I have no idea how to resolve. My daughter emailed several pictures to my laptop from her cell phone. After downloading the pictures they open in my Picasa photo editor. However, I can no scroll and there are now thumbnails of all the pictures that show up on my Yahoo home page. All the current event pictures. Does anyone know what happened and/or how to prevent this. I'm Windows 7 on an Asus laptop with 4 GB RAM.

A:Solved: Yahoo home page current event photos

False alarm. I must have done something that I'm unaware I did but the problem is now gone.

Seems that just started with a fairly recent Yahoo update.

Don't like it, would prefer the bullets & thumbnails don't auto scroll so I can look at them
for awhile without them scrolling out of view, then be able to scroll at the pace I want.

Anyway to eliminate that auto scrolling?

And, BTW, how in the heck can I shut off that lame "Ian" cartoon thing on the right side
of the Yahoo email page? Totally annoying.

Wondering what's up?

Yahoo's homepage shows different stories in Firefox 39 in Private Browsing Mode than in regular mode. Everything else is the same. This is a Windows 7 desktop PC.

A:Yahoo Home Page Has Different Stories in Firefox Private Browsing Mode?

I suspect Yahoo uses your browser's cookies and browsing history to populate stories based on what it thinks your preferences are. I haven't been on Yahoo's home page in years though so I don't know for sure.

I know Google News operates this way though (at least slightly).

I've been told that this may be a problem with malware:

For the last month or so I have been unable to log into Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. In fact, they did sort of work for a few days after I hadn't used my PC for about a week, but then stopped working again.

As Messenger is linked to Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox with no problems), I checked my IE and saw that, although it should open on my ISP's homepage, it goes to another page automatically - even though the address in the address box is the ISPs. In fact, I can't change to another page after that.

I don't know if this IE problem is connected to my Messenger problem, maybe its an (un) happy coincidence.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?

Many thanks.

I'm running Windows XP and Kaspersky Antivirus.
