I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been whacking my head against the wall. I have removed all entries that Ad-Ware can find. I have the most recent version of Adrware SE and the most recent definition files.

My other computer is giving me fits. When I open IE it says a error has occured and must close; do I want to report this? I say NO and that's all IE will do. Bottom line IE is now useless. I have run Spybot, Adaware, Microsoft Spyware (Beta), and Norton antvirus. All have been updated prior to execution. Every time I these utilities there is a bunch of crap it finds and gets rid of bt it all seems to regenerate. I have gone into the regestry to clean up a bunch of the start up junk but back it comes!! This is my Daughter's computer and she has obviously picked something up. My Hijack This log is below. I have this on 2 independant pc's. Explorer can show some home pages but reports error with most others and if I do manage to acces a site the same error shows if I go to another page.
Error mesage: IE has encountered an error with this site and must close. send error report appears, do send or not, IE closes and restarts, Reports tab is recovered and then goes round the loop again and again.

Friend instructed following:
Options/ browser history- SetDiskspace used to 50 (was 1024)!
open Advanced tab/click restore advanced settings. close.
Open tools/Manage add ons, disable or remove all unwanted add ons.
Restart IE
This worked ok so repeated on 2nd PC.
This worked,
Went to 1st PC and the problem reappeared after a few minutes
Same on 2nd PC.
Did complete AVG virus scan and spybot scan on both with no problems.

IE8 still not working

Downloaded Firefox which works fine on both PC's Now able to upgrade AVG free to v.9

Up you Microsoft!

Hi, all. I am having a problem when I go to open a PDF file, I get an error message saying that IE needs to close. The error message contains the file name acropdf.dll. I don’t know if this problem is related to the recent virus my computer got, or that I just upgraded to WXP Service Pack 2. Any help would be appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me if PDF files involve Java? Thank you.

Hello, I have a brand new dell. Less then 2 days old. Computer is running great, super fast. But i already am running into a small problem. When i close internet explorer after visiting a simple website like yahoo or google it closes fine. But when i close a site that contains a flash game or shockwave game an error message pops up. With the windows report box. It dosn't give any info about the error, just that it should be reported. Any Glue? It's so hard to uninstall IE in XP, and re-install won't work either. Thanks in advance! ~Jordan~

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

Hi All!

When I close out Internet Explorer and i return to my desktop I get a program called "Purity Scan" saying that it is closing and then states that it can't close. I don't know what "purity scan" is but I then have to manual say "end now"

Any recommendations to fix this problem? I have Windows XP loaded on the desktop.

A:prgoram won't close when I close Internet Explorer

See if its in your Add / Remove Programs. If so use this feature to get rid of it.

Here are posts regarding same on another forum -

Not sure but Spybot Search & Destroy may help to completely delete all traces of this Purity Scan. Get Spybot from here :

Once you have it - Run - click Online - Check for Updates - once you have them - close IE and in Spybot click Check for Problems and have it Fix all checked.

If it still persists please post back here.

After opening Internet Explorer, I cannot close it by pressing the "x", right-clicking and selecting close, or holding alt+f4. It simply will not close under any circumstance. Because of this I use Opera web broswer (I like it better anyway). However, IE is required to do certain things and I would appreciate some advice on how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

So I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I recently hooked my computer up to my TV with a VGA cable and tried out IE on the TV screen for a few minutes to see what it looked like. Then I moved it back onto my screen and ever since then I've been trying to figure out how to close it. When I try to close it it just makes a bell noise and although I can open and close tabs, I can't close the original tab even when others are open. I'm getting really pissed off. I usually use Firefox but I have it optimized for my netbook and I had to use IE to drag over onto the other screen so I just want to get this program off my screen and probably off my computer next.

EDIT: Also I don't know what this means, but I'm running Windows 7 and I just noticed that when I scroll over the IE icon at the bottom it shows each tab open, but I have 3 tabs open and it's only showing the two that will close. The other doesn't show up.

A:Internet Explorer Won't Close

Run antivirus scan
Download and run malwarebytes

Internet Explorer - Reset
Go to tools
Internet options
This removes all the add ons, which can be replaced later.

Nothing works, you can try a system restore.

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close etc

I get this dozens of times a day and do not know why it keeps happening. I looked at the error report details (which was huge and indecipherable) and it said the following will be included in the report;

more often than not it happens just as a site is loading (in the above case CBSsportsline) but not always and on many different sites.

Sometimes if I type a URL into the address bar and press 'go' nothing happens yet I can reach the same site through my favorites, on other occasions a site will load yet clicking on links has no effect.

Would this all be part of the same problem?

As always, any help is very much appreciated.

Welcome to BC! I would recommend following the Preparation Guide to posting a HiJackThis log. You may not need to actually post a log, however. If you follow the instuctions in the Preparation Guide faithfully then your computer may be cleaned. However, rarely is a computer infected with only one thing, and it is possible that some of them will not get removed using this method. If after completing all of the steps in the Preparation Guide you continue to have issues, post a HiJackThis log as instructed in the Preparation Guide.PREPARATION GUIDEIf you have any questions regarding any part of the instructions, don't hestitate to ask, because we will answer your questions or direct you to a tutorial that will explain the answer.

Afternoon all,

My friend and I are engaged in a prank war on each others computers at the moment, and I am ashamed to admit I can't figure out how he did this one so I need a bit of help!

I cannot close internet explorer or any tabs. I am pretty sure its to do with the permissions, and I changed them in the security tab you can get to the properties, I even took ownership of the program and I tried running it as administrator but still no dice.

Could it be something in the registry changed?

Thanks all,

I was running internet explorer 7 with no problems until I installed Norton 360, then all I get when loading IE is a message that Internet Explorer needs to shut down, "do I want to send error " When I click either send or do not send, Internet Explorer shuts down. I assume I have to do something in Norton to allow IE, but can not find any thing. Any suggestions? Thank you

I have 2 windows of internet explorer open on my Dell PC-the operating system of which is Windows Vista. The windows are essentially frozen-browser will not function, will not go to previous pages, links on pages will not work, the up and down arrows won't even work. I can only minimize and maximize the windows. Clicking on the 'close' options does not work. I cannot access internet options on the windows in order to reset explorer. alt + F4 does not work. Esc. does not work. can someone help me close these windows? I promise I will never use Internet Explorer again!

A:Internet Explorer Won't Close

Have you tried 'Task Manager'?

Right click an empty space on the taskbar, click 'task manager', highlight either task of Internet Explorer under the Applications tab, then click 'end task' Do the same for the other window. If it still does not close (closing may take a moment or two) click 'switch to' for one of the open IE windows under the Applications tab of 'Task Manager'.

I just got finished deleting a problem file called 0s_install.exe. Prior to and since deleting that file, IE6 would not open. I would immediately get the "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" window after clicking on the icon to open the IE app. I installed IE7 hoping that the problem was isolated to v6, but the same problem happens with IE7 as well. I ran DDS per the Preparation Guide. Below are the results of the DDS.txt file. The Prep Guide also instructed to attach the Attach.txt file in zipped format, which I have done. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I did not get a response in about a week (I guess there must be an overload of requests out there). I took it upon myself to perform a restore from a previous state of about 1 month ago. So far, it seems to have alleviated the problem, so I think this topic can be closed. Thanks to those that viewed my post. Even though I didn't get a reply to this post, I appreciate the help that all the experts on here are willing to provide. Keep up the good work.

A:Internet explorer needs to close message.

Hi, earthmud

There is no evident malware in that log. Lets take a deeper look:

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.

Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
In the Processes group click Non Microsoft
In the Win32 Services group click Non Microsoft
In the Driver Services group click Non Microsoft
In the Registry group click Non Microsoft
In the Files Created Within group click 60 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
In the Files Modified Within group select 30 days Make sure Non-Microsoft only is UNCHECKED
In the File String Search group select Non Microsoft
In the Additional scans sections please press select All and uncheck non-microsoft only

Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here (Do not copy and paste in a reply, rather attach it to it).

Try reinstalling IE6
(Assuming Windows XP) Start - Run

In the dialogue box type

sfc /scannow

Press Enter. Note the space between sfc and /scannow

This runs system file checker, and will replace any damaged files.
