crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

Q: crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I have searched all the internets without luck, and maybe/probably don't know the correct vernacular so here goes.

In windows 7, when viewing the desktop... or when the mouse focus is off window (on desktop)... a "neat" feature of windows now is how you can resize all the icons with a crtl+wheel motion. Just click to the desktop, or have the focus there already, and viola, the crtl button plus a wheel move makes system wide changes to your desktop icon display.

Well I am not sure what version this new trick was invented in, but it is a cool trick... ONCE. After that its a really stupid annoyance that is just insanity because today, in real life, every other time I sit down my icons are moved around, or all jacked up, or they are out of place, or just out of order, or there are gaps, or some or all of the above... what kind of useful feature is that? Have you thought of a lock for this gadget at all? As in allow the customization, then tuck it away so its not a flaming hotkey 24/7?

Sure, the cause of this awesome trick of resizing the desktop with the scroll wheel, is my wife and kids. How did they PwN me with such 1337 h4x when they know nothing about root trickery and such... well easy, see just by using the PC on occasion, they have accidently cracked the code by accidently discovering this hack. Oh it took a while for me to solve that much sure, but once I did, it wasn't long before I discovered that this total PITA trick is actually a built in feature here to help me. Well stop helping me because someone who doesn't understand what crtl+wheel really does now has root access to repeatedly eff up my desktop.

Well enough.

I have looked for ways to lock the icons, or disable this trick but I can't find it. It seems beyond logic that a kid could completely hammer my desktop simply by resting his hand on the crtl key while rolling the wheel, but sure as the sun shines, not only has he done it several times, so has the other kid, and so has the wife, and honestly even I did it on accident the first time... that's how I discovered this stupid... umm... this amazing new hack... well sorry Microsoft, once is a win, but afterwords this is a fail.. a really big stupid one.

So please, lets pick a flipping size desktop icons and leave it the @#$%^ alone. Put a toggle on it, make it one click away, anything... anything to keep my look static. As I said its a cool trick, but once its set it needs to stay set. Having unknowing users (kids) and technically challenged (wife) users able to wield such advance h4x treachery while I am AFK is retarded.

Of course so is needing 2Gb of ram to simply boot an O/S, but I digress... can anyone help this?

Preferred Solution: crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: crtl zoom desktop icon resize driving me insane, please help disable??

I know what you mean. Tried it and f*** up my whole desktop's worth of icons.

Anyway, found a solution, although it requires a third-party program and it disables the combination of Ctrl+mouse wheel in any program, including browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome and similar) and games.

So, unless someone comes up with something better you can get ready for a l33t haxxorz thanks to a guy called rd2020 posted here.

Usual disclaimer, WARNING, this worked on my current PC, and the amount of testing it received is minimal (so far it works ). DO AT YOUR OWN RISK

Now, the third party program is the famous Autohotkey, so download it and install it. Go custom and select the 32 bit version. Probably either choice won't matter as this is a very tiny bit of code anyway but that's what I did.

Then create a new script, by creating a new notepad file on the desktop.

in the file, write

#MaxHotkeysPerInterval 1000
The ^ is "Ctrl" in this script language and the last line makes sure this script isn't executed hundreds of times per second.

Then save the file with the extension .ahk, like say "stopzoom.ahk". You might need to go in Folder Options (type "folder options" in the Start menu searchbox) --> View --> deselect "Hide extensions for known file types" to make sure that the file isn't being named "stopzoom.ahk.txt" as that is still a notepad document, not a script.

When it "becomes" a script, the icon of it should change to a piece of paper with a purple H on it. You can still edit it with notepad.
To activate it, simply double-click on it.
Test the behavior on an open folder (as this resizing happens with stuff in folders as well and is less annoying than doing on the desktop).

If it works (on my PC it does), that is you do ctrl+ mouse wheel and nothing happens instead of that silly resizing, you just need to make sure the script runs on startup.

So, move the script file somewhere safe, possibly with a README document that explains what it is and what to do to make it again, right click on that thing and select "create shortcut", then copy the shortcut into the folder called Startup in the Start menu.

Hope it works on your PC as well.

In case you feel lazy, I attach the script I made below. You can look at what is written into it by opening the file with Notepad.

I have two annoying problems with Windows 10 Pro at the moment, I have two monitors, one connects directly to the PC via the HDMI port on the graphics card. The other monitor connects via a DVI to VGA converter and goes into one of the ports on a 4 port KVM switch. This set-up allows me to run Windows 10 with two monitors (one very wide screen) and two other PC's using just one of the screens via the KVM (these two PC's run non MS OS's).

Now the issue I have on the windows PC is that the desktop icon keep moving after every reboot. I have the desktop icons setup as I want down either left hand side and the right hand side of one monitors and the desktop showing on the other monitor does not have any icons on it. But when I start the PC or reboot the PC all the desktop icons have moved and are spread out in to areas across the entire desktop showing on both monitors.

The other issue I have is that if I have a program open (not full screen but in a window), I then use the KVM to go to one of the other PC's when I come back to the Windows Desktop the program window(s) I had open and been shrunk down to around half there size. This happen with Firefox, Google Chrome, Word 2013, Excel 2013, Remote Desktop Windows. I normally have several Remote desktops open which I open in windows rather than full screen.

My Graphics card is a Nvidia GT 730 and have upgraded the driver through several updates but that has made no difference.

Any thoughts suggestions?

My Icons keep getting moved when I reboot. I searched the BC forums and found a suggestion. It said to right click on an empty space on the desktop. I un checked auto arrange. The only thing checked now is "show desktop Icons". I moved all my icons to where I want them. They DID stay put after I did a resize of screen resolution. I thought the problem was solved. Then I had to reboot & BAM! All the icons got moved again. It always puts the recycling bin in the top left corner. Any help w/ this issue?

Please help!

Hey guys/gals, thanks for reading this. You guys have helped before on many other occasions. My problem today, well everyday, is that my PC likes to lock up at random times, more when using processor but still will do it when nothing is running on desktop. Ive had this problem for a year now and it makes me so angry because it is a pretty good PC, old but good. It started about 2 months after i reformatted the first time. I thought it was drivers, but not 100% sure thought it might be ram but then again not sure, they are OCZ Gold ram with Nvidia 8800GTS GPU and a Corsair520watt PSU. I cannot burn DVD's PC just locks up halfway through, if i leave my PC on all night and come back in a.m. got about 70%chance it will be frozen. I get no warnings, no error messages, just a headache....Any info at all would be much appreciated.

Hi all.

A problem has suddenly appeared with my Firefox browser. I can't stop the Sidebar from appearing whenever I open up a new page. The Sidebar appears and shows a list of where I've been.

The Sidebar comes under 'History' in the Toolbar.

To try to disable it I've clicked 'View' in the toolbar - highlighted 'Sidebar' - and unticked 'history'.

Then I've clicked 'History' in the toolbar and unticked 'Show in Sidebar'.

Then I've rebooted the computer.

No success. I've clicked 'Tools' - Options - and searched for something that will disable this nuisance. No joy.

Does anyone have any ideas? It's driving me nuts.

Thanks for any help!

Every time I turn the computer on, I get this "VirtualTruck Reboot Helper" which says "Please insert your VirtualTruck CD back into the CD tray so that installation may continue."

The problem is -- I don't have a VirtualTruck CD, I don't even know what VirtualTruck is. This computer is about two months old or so, and I've been getting this error message ever since I got it. I'd really like to know if any of you would know how to get rid of this message, so it'll stop appearing every time I turn my computer on.

Also, when I go to the Windows Task Manager (ctrl+alt+delete), and right click on the VirtualTruck Reboot Helper and hit "go to process", it shows that RECOVE~1.exe or something is using it. Not sure what that means, but hopefully someone here would know what to do.

I don't have VirtualTruck or anything like that in my Add/Remove programs, in my Program Files folder, I'm completely stuck and have no idea what to do. I've tried calling computer stores & they were stumped.

Some help would be appreciated..

When I finally had the money for a new PC I wanted to make sure its a good one for the (at least near) future.

My Hardware :
Quad Q6600 2.4
4x2GB 800 Mhz (need 8GB for virtual machines)
Asus Striker Extreme
XFX 8800 Ultra
SATAII Raptors

When I first build the PC I was unable to install it at all ... First the installation took ages to show me the first screen (which language). I tried to install Vista Business.

After about 8 hours googling and so on I found an article that installations of Vista with more than 3 GB Ram might fail.

Easy enough, I removed 3 sticks and tried to install with just 2 GB .. same issue ... After several Bios updates - including some weird ones, I was still unable to install Vista .. I then tried to install Windows XP x64 which installed just fine .. an upgrade to Vista gave me also a bluescreen.

During the night I suddenly had a hunch .. I went to the office and took the ram from my work station .. it has the same Ram, just 2x1GB ...

Installation started quickly and installation did not fail until the last reboot .. this gave me another bluescreen but after that BSOD it was fine .. I run all Windowsupdates / patches and was able to run all full 8 GB of Ram and the system runs rock solid since ....

Although I must also say that at the time I used those 1GB ram sticks I also disabled Raid (although I would have loved to run a mirrored system) so I am not sure what at the end "fixed" the problem.

Anyhow .. now my MediaCenter d... Read more

It's been MONTHS now. MONTHS since i've had a perfect internet connection. Right. So at first I thought it was my router - I tried absolutely everything - problem still persists. (Internet intermittently goes off and on; sometimes it'll work for hours before going off, sometimes it's going off every few minutes) So I thought it could be virgin's fault, so I plug my computers in through ethernet directly into the router. After much deliberation and arguments with Virgin, they decide it's a modem problem. So we get a new modem. Nope, still exists. (It may have been a problem with the modem as well, so it's not necessarily a bad thing to have a new modem). Right now I'm online through ethernet and it has been fine so far. On my macbook it was fine too - didn't disconnect once in like 2 hours. Right now it's been fine and it's probably been about 20 minutes. (Vista laptop). So I'm beginning to think it may be my router and Windows XP computer. What I'm going to do is take the XP computer back to the shop and run their internet via ethernet through it, and if it works - it's virgin's fault, and if it doesn't, it's something wrong with my ethernet on my computer. So if it doesn't work, the issue with the router must be something else (possibly not a static channel - I reset the router's settings back to the defaults). Any suggestions to what could be wrong with my internet? Have I have do... Read more

Hello everybody!

Firstly i'm new here (so hi, hope you're all well and all that!) and also new to Windows 7. I have a second hand ASUS Eee PC netbook, running W7 Starter. I recently installed Skype and can't seem to get the built in webcam to work. I keep getting the "This device can perform faster" message. When I click the balloon I get the window telling me to disconnect the USB Composite Device from it's current port and re-connect it to the one displayed in bold type, which supports the Hi-Speed USB2 yahdeyah! How on earth do I do that??? I have tried disabling in Device manager but couldn't get that to work. While i'm reasonably tech savvy, this is just a little bit out of my reach and woulod really appreciate any help you folks can give me.

Thanks in anticipation

A:Help Required... Driving me insane!!!

Most likely this is a driver issue. The "This device can perform faster" message is not a sign of any problem by itself. You can get such message any time you use a USB 1.0 port. Now, why does Windows think that your built-in camera is USB 1.0 - I don't know, I would first check the manual to see what kind of connection is there and then check the ASUS site for an updated driver.

The more important question, does your Skype see the camera at all? Even as USB 1.0?

I've done every single thing I've been able to find. Flushed the dns, tried OpenDNS, Google's DNS, Comcast's DNS, none have worked. I've tried the netsh winsock console command. I've tried every browser available to me, Firefox, Chrome, Explorer and Edge, I'm getting errors on all of them. I don't know what else to do. No matter what, the errors are always dns related.

I'm using Windows 10 on an HP Pavilion laptop. My ISP is Comcast and I'm using their Xfinity gateway for my router.

I'm having to make this thread from my phone because I can't connect to the site from my laptop. I can visit a lot of big sites like Facebook and YouTube, but sometimes not even YouTube will work.

I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out. The Google tech forums have been no help, neither have the Microsoft forums. Of course Comcast doesn't know **** either. Any help at all would be appreciated.

You guys are my last hope for this extremely stubborn virus..

I am not completely new to pcs and security so this problem is driving me totally insane..

I keep getting infected with fujack.aa it delivers a games.exe and fills all my folders with a hidden file called desktop__.ini.. I have tried 6 different antivirus software to try and find which files that are the source of the infection,to no avail.. Atm i use kaspersky and it detects the virus files when they go active which is at least once a day, and deletes the files, then next day they come back, sometimes they even come back a couple of hours later. It also reappears even if i do a complete reinstall and format of windows xp.. When i scan, the antivir programs never find any sort of infected files, and my settings are set to scan everything. It also spreads to my other pcs on the network..

I have turned off system restore, i have formatted ALL harddrives, i have scanned in safemode with several different aintivir progs, and the virus keeps coming back..

All my windows, firewall and antivir software is updated everyday

I have looked in registry for the sequence string for the virus to load, but cannot find the signature string..

I have searched the web for a solution but none of the "cleaning" methods work..

Anyone have any idea of what i can do to permanently get rid of this?

please help as i dare not use my homebanking as well as shop with my visa as long as i keep gettiong infected

Firstly I know very little about computers, but usually I can make do with suggestions from Google.
Now onto my problems.

- Online games keep minimizing every several minutes, have no idea how to fix that but google tells me that it has something to do with a process going on in the background....I want it to stop doing it.
-Having trouble opening up a few applications, League of Legends refuses to open up to the login page....unless I open and close it 20 or so times. -_-
Google suggested I repair the game (did it), Uninstall and then Reinstall (did it), disable any active firewalls (did it), delete specific files within the program and repair them (did it). Nothing is working. This was a sudden occurrence,it was working find until recently.
The other application that I notice won't open up is Plantronics Rig500 Audio Panel.

Please help me. I'm begging you.

Alrighty, the thing is that I've recently bought a new, store assembled computer.
If I remember correctly it came with an Nvidia 7600 GT graphics card, but it's been acting up ever since I bought the comp.
For example in KOTOR II everything goes black, gray and shiny and I can't do anything.
In NFS: Most Wanted the game runs okay for a little while, then all of a sudden it starts to, I don't know, get hiccups. It kinda jumps forward in time a couple of seconds.

That's just a few of the game related problems I have, but the computer always freezes
up whenever I leave a game. And then I mean all games I have. The only solution I've found to this is putting it too sleep via keyboard or restarting.

I've tried downloading new drivers, but it didn't work. If you have any idea about what's wrong please help me, it's driving me insane.

Hey everyone, thanks for taking a look.

Here is my system:

Intel i7 960
Intel DX58SO Mobo
Adata 6GB DDR3
Nvidia GTS250
Thermaltake 600
Rosewill Destroyer Case

All clocks and voltages are stock as well as cooling.

My temps while idle are (according to CPUID):

0 40c
1 39c
2 44c
3 37c

My temps after playing Bad Company 2 for 45 minutes or so:

0 80c (176F???)
1 75c
2 78c
3 77c

Important notes:

Used dot method for thermal compound application. Used arctic silver 5. As far as I can tell this went well and without a hitch. Never had to reapply compound or reseat the heatsink.

I have one intake 120mm in the front of the case, one 120mm exhaust on the top, one 120mm exhaust on the back, PSU is bottom mount and is exhausting through a fan grate on the bottom of the case.

Stock everything.

This seems WAY too hot to me and was confirmed to be something to look into by a couple of guys I know.

If anyone can draw any parallels with the hardware listed and the temps that would be great. Any (reasonable) solution suggestions would be great too, if this is indeed alarming temps.

Thank you.

A:I7 960 - temps driving me insane!

Yup, that's a bit too high... even for an i7 as i just recently found out. My suggestion is to swap the cooler and thermal. Something aftermarket would be much better and personally I don't really like Arctic Silver that much. I usually recommend Tuniq compounts TX-2 or TX-3. Also, make sure to check the voltages in BIOS are set to stock.

Hi! I'm new one here and I have huge problem. In july BSOD's started to show up. I didn't bothered about it. Then I figured out that when I'm looking videos on youtube. So I didn't watch movies on youtube anymore. But then problem appeared again in December! I played Counter-Strike but suddenly BSOD appeared. I thought that it's just random BSOD. Later that day I got 5 more BSOD's. Problem stopped until middle of January. BSOD's became so often, sometimes even 10 times at day! Today I got 11 BSOD's already, yesterday I got 17 of them. Please help me, im going insane!

Hi Maytoh and Welcome.

STOP 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (go to top of page)
Usual causes: Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS.

Your latest dump file blames dadder.sys which is your DeathAdder Mouse driver.
However, you have many varied stop error codes which usually indicates a hardware problem.
Old and incompatible drivers can also cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes.

As a Priority:

sptd.sys Tue Nov 23 11:47:37 2010 The sptd.sys driver is notorious for causing BSOD's with Windows 7. It's a driver used and installed along with Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120 and you'll also have to uninstall both.
Then use the correct (32bit or 64bit) download from Duplex Secure - Downloads to uninstall the SPTD.SYS driver.
Make sure to select the uninstall button!
Virtual Drives
A couple of alternatives to DT/Alcohol that do not use SPTD.SYS (In no order).
DVDFab. Very small at just over 1Mb installed (My preference).
PowerISO (The program is a trial but the drive emulation is free forever).

More to follow when I've been through your dump files.

2. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

SO, a friend uses this site and told me to post my issue here since I've exhausted my options apart from actually taking my rig into a "pro" to get it looked at, so here I am.

I have a Gigabyte 970A-D3P Mobo and an old Phenom II x3 CPU. I decided hell, why not spend some cash on a new AMD FX6300! The computer turns on, no output to video, fans going lights on HDD spins, but sounds like its spins some rotations slows, spins more, slows in an endless cycle. No weird noises etc. I've built computers, replaced parts etc in the past with little to no issues until this day. Here is what I've done to eliminate easy replies:

-BIOS version was F5 to begin with, meaning it supported FX chips. Flashed it to F6e anyway, optimized settings etc, no change in behavior.
-Cleared CMOS started from scratch -- no change in behavior
-Yes, FX chips are supported by my Mobo, checked this multiple times even before buying. Website for this Mobo even tells me, for FX chips to work, flash to the newest BIOS to ensure compatibility. -- no luck.
-Interchanged the Phenom II and the FX in multiple ways to ensure nothings been connect wrongly, heatsink is messed up etc. Phenom boots the computer up like a charm every time. I've been at this for hours to no avail. I've attached a picture of some system summaries in case they would prove useful as well.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!

A:Popups are driving me insane

Welcome to TSF.

I don't see anything major here that's sticking out. What's the problem you are having now?

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

So, for the past couple months, my webpage would be redirected to an advertisement that is sometimes related to the site I'm on, or at least that's what they try to make it seem (I'll see Megavideo in big red letters at the top). I avoided it at first; it provided the option to "Skip this Ad" or "Disable this Ad" in the right hand corner, though sometimes the latter option wasn't even there. Every anti-spyware or adware program I've tried (Ad-Aware, Hijack This, SUPER...something) could not completely get rid of it. They might detect the adware for the first scan or two, but then they stop detecting it. I've tried system restore as a last resort, and even in safe mode, it would never fully complete.
Now it take 5 minutes for Firefox to load, though that could be from something that got detected/deleted during another scan. I would undo it if system restore would frickin work.

Anywho, is there any way to manually get rid of it? It's not dangerous or too bothersome (it'll pop up several times in on hour, and none at all the rest of the day), but annoying, nonetheless.

So a mod in software (viruses) told me to post this here.

Hi all,

Here is my link to my stats http://speccy.piriform.com/results/P...kHnEJNQzx8MFnb & Win 8 came pre-installed on this Asus laptop.

Just an FYI to anyone out there, I will NEVER EVER buy anything Asus again. Their tech support is horrendous & they have wasted my time over & over again. And even their website doesn't even work properly when I tried to reach out to the executive area via their form, the submit button never works. And they hide management so you can never speak to them. They also won't let you speak to anyone in the US And lastly, no one even calls me back when they say they will (not one person, but many). Just a forewarning.

So after wasting almost a month with this issue & probably over 24 total hours of dealing with Asus & MS on the phone, MS is NOW saying they think I have a virus.

First I had issues with my wifi working when I was at a hotel, then after going thru the troubleshooting steps I think it wanted me to do a refresh which I did.

It then had a number to call to get the Win 8 activation key so I called it & got this new key. Then a day or two later Win wanted to do another update. Now I wasn't at my own apt. & the speeds were terrible at this place I was staying at, but seriously, it took the update 6-8 hours. I know b/c I got up in the middle of the night & it was STILL running.

Then it said the key was no longer valid & would ... Read more

Hey there

So i was recommended to post here to solve my BSOD issue after ranting to a mate online.

I've only just recently been hit with some very frequent BSODs and thus far cannot figure out why.

I haven't really installed any new hardware into my computer in quite awhile, hence why this took me by surprise and frustrated me so much.

Sometimes it will happen upon start, other times it will happen after the computer has been on for about 4 to 5 hours. Even in safemode it has occurred, but only in the early stages when i was still trying to troubleshoot the problem myself.

Initially i re installed my Windows 7. I felt like i needed a fresh install anyway at the time, and was kind of hoping that it would solve my problem. However it didnt :(

My computer is as follow:

OS: Windows 7
Original install would have to be vista, since then though i have had multiple clean installs.
The OS is a full retail version
The approx age of my system would have to be around 3-4 years i think. I have upgraded parts and added parts though throughout those years.

CPU: Intel Q9505
Vid Card: 2 x 9800GT 1gb, running in SLI
Mobo: EVGA 780i SLI FTW
PSU: Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold Edition 1000w

Attached i have provided the files outlined in the guidelines sticky.

Thanks for the help

Ok, I have a new laptop and a Desk. I`m trying to get the internet off the laptop through a TP-LINK TR-WR641G WireLess Router and my Cable Modem.

I`ve connected the ethernet cable to the Cable Modem and the Wan connector on the Router and another ethernet cable from Port 1 to the Tower. On the laptop I get a wireless signal and I am connected to a network called TP-LINK. But I`m getting no DNS address on the laptop and on the DeskTop I get:

SUBNET MASK:255 255 255 0

And I get no connection to the internet from the DeskTop!!! and no connection from the Laptop, which is running Vista Basic while the desk is running XP PRO.

Now, the laptop tells me I need a DNS address because their isn`t one. !!!

No matter what I do, I can`t solve this problem. I have no disk for the router and I can`t get hold of any drivers. I tried the TFTP software to upgrade the firmware but I can`t get it to work.. cos i`m that daft.

I got an Acer Aspire 6935 last year and ever since I bought it I've had the same issue, it just will not connect to the internet. I was using wired internet with an ethernet cable and even though it shows connect down the right end of the screen when I'd turn on my browser it wouldn't allow me access to the internet. I found a way around this, if I went in to device manager and disabled and then enabled the network adapter (Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller) then eventually I would be able to use the internet. Not the greatest of solutions but it did the job for some time. However, today I bought myself a wireless internet connection and my previous solution no longer works, when I try disabling and enabling the wireless wifi link nothing changes, it still looks connected but I'm not able to access any webpages. This has been this way since the day I brought it home from the shop so I know it's not caused by a virus. I thought McAfee might have been blocking it so I deleted it off my system but still no joy. I've checked proxy settings and they seem to be turned off. I even called up the internet provider and they said on their side of things it looks as if I'm connected. I'm all out of ideas and any suggestions I've found online and tried just don't work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm not the best IT person so this has been driving me insane for over 12 months!
