The Impossible Mouse!

Q: The Impossible Mouse!

I have what would seem at first to be a very simple problem with my wireless mice, but all of my attempts at solving it have yielded no progress. I am hoping for someone hardware-savvy to help me out. Here's my schtick:

I began experiencing skipping with my wireless mouse just subtle enough to irritate me and throw off my game (Dota and the like) a few weeks ago. I was using, at that time, a larger Logitech mouse. Unfortunately, I can't recall the make of it, but I had been using it for at least two or three years. One of my front USB ports on my machine doesn't work at all, but I tried the back of my tower and also on the side of my secondary monitor. No improvement. So naturally, I concluded that either my mouse or receiver was just aged and in need of replacement.

I have now been using this Logitech m510 for a week, but the slight skipping is still there, at times more or less noticeable. This led me to believe it was a trouble with the surface of my wooden desktop. I cleaned it thoroughly-- nothing. I tried a mouse pad-- nothing. The receiver is in clear sight directly beside my shoulder, so I would like to think that interference could not possibly be so sensitive. Where is the trouble? Coincidentally ALL of my USB ports?

My PC is a decently powerful machine, I built it within the last year. I am running Win7 64-bit from a Corsair Force 3 SSD with an i5-2500k CPU and 8GB of RAM. My GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 6800. Any ideas? If you need more information from me, let me know and I will gladly pass it along.

Preferred Solution: The Impossible Mouse!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Genius required. My USB mouse doesn?t work on a particular pc, motherboard is lite-on tech 08fch. PC is a HP dx2000 and runs XP. Mouse is a Logitech, it works with all other PC?s 100% and there is definitely nothing wrong with it.

-Upon loading PC, mouse will work for 5 seconds then stop working completely
-As normal there is a led under the mouse which goes off/out when mouse stops working
-Mouse will not work until i disconnect and reconnect it - this allows it to work for only another 5 seconds until exactly the same thing happens again
-Device Manager gives exclamation mark and Error code 43

What I have tried and hasn?t worked
-Uninstalling mouse and rebooting PC
-Updating the driver
-Reformatting my PC
-Removing power cord for a duration and reconnecting it
-Resetting the bios
-Removing the cmos battery
-Resetting the JP3 jumper
-Smacking my PC

Dear all,
I have a strange problem with my laptop (toshiba satellite pro U300, operative system windows xp professional). The left click of the mouse is working completely random. When I open ANY new window sometimes it works sometimes it does not. And when it does not work i cannot click anywhere else (the mouse pointer still moves though). The only solution is pressing ctrl-alt-canc, opening task manager and closing it right after (i do not need anything else, just opening and closing it). In this way it starts to work again. Other noticed problems: when i use firefox most of the time i click over a link the window suddenly loads back to the previous displayed page, as if i had pressed the backspace button. Finally when i use thunderbird if i click for example over "incoming mails" it sudden jumps over "sent mail" or some other place. It is impossible for me to work. And guys IT IS NOT THE MOUSE, because i tried to disconnect it and using the touchpad and i have the same problem. I restarted twice the computer but nothing changed. I scanned my pc with AVG, there was a virus called Gaelicum.A (see log below) but it was healed (note that the exe files within the path C:\condivisa\incidenze2.1.0 are fortran files that i wrote and compiled, they are not virus. I restarted other 2 times but it is still not working.
Any suggestion?
thank you very much

A couple of months ago, I notice that my wireless mouse was starting to hesitate and lag. Usually, I could move the dongle to a different USB port and that would solve the issue for a while. However, a couple of days ago, it started getting really bad. Now it doesn't matter what port it is in. I have tried: updating/reinstalling all mouse drivers. Nope. I even bought a new Microsoft mouse with a big "Windows 10 ready" sticker on it. Nope. Other mice have the same issue, too. Not sure what to do next. Basically, my computer is a 25-lb paperweight if I can't get my mouse working properly. I did look at some threads on this forum with folks who had similar issues and tried a few things there (disabling Realtek as startup was one idea. Another suggesting to turn off the "scroll when hovering over an inactive window" in settings.), but none of those worked, either.

I've been using Windows 10 ever since it was released last summer, so I don't know why this problem is appearing now. Seems like something that would crop up on a brand new build.

HI all,

I need help to undertand if is possibile resolve this possible issue.

I have an ACER Revo 3610r, Atom 530 processor, I'm using it with a wireless Enermax Aurora micro keyboard (with trackball included).

I would use RDP from my work pc
Unfortunately after I've taken the control from my work pc I'm not able to use the wireless keyboard on the host (Acer revo ) so I've to restart with the shutdown /R command.

I have tried to use a wired mouse and all works fine so I think the problem is a bios or windows issue.

Can anyone suggest me a way to resolve this problem?

Thank you very much

A:Remote Desktop Connection: Impossible use wireless keyboard and mouse

Have you tried reinstallin the driver? Maybe you should run the remote desktop connection, then plug in your wireless mouse and keyboard so the remote computer detects it. This should work.

Hi guys,

New here, so I hope I'm not out of line asking for help, and that I'm asking correctly. I've exhausted my own ideas on this but the problem is driving me IN.SANE.

When using an external (USB) mouse with my ASUS Win7 laptop, the mouse randomly lifts up and re-clicks while clicking or while dragging (despite the button remaining consistently depressed), resulting in selection of the wrong objects, inadvertent double-clicks, and incorrect dragging. From what I can tell, this affects only the left click and not the right.

Laptop touchpad - no problem. Everything works fine with the built-in touchpad.
Another mouse - same problem. These are wired mice, so it's not a battery or connection issue.
Another USB port - same problem in all four. There's no visible issue with the motion of the mouse/cursor, so it seems to be communicating OK via USB.
Safe Mode - no problem, from what I can tell. The wired USB mouse seems to click and drag as normal in Safe Mode.
Mouse Settings - no effect. Adjusting the click/double-click/drag settings doesn't seem to change anything.
System Resources - no effect. Clicking/dragging seems to show the same results in the RAM/CPU monitors whether I'm having the problem (with the mouse) or performing the same actions without the problem (with the trackpad).

What haven't I ruled out? What else could be causing the issue?

The problem came on suddenly after about a year, but I... Read more

Hey mate, and welcome,

Possible problem:
1. Mouse itself is bad. Either the button itself or internally
2. Driver is not at its best

Going to the mouse manufacture website to download the most recent driver for your Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit. If it doesn't work, try without any driver (so that windows driver takes over).

I have installed on my computer a new PC only version of Windows 8. I've not purchased a new PC for about 8 years so its impossible it came with the computer, I built the computer myself.

I remember I brought an upgrade copy of Win8 in error, I got it from PC world. I still have those disk but now I also have this new PC version. I remember going back to PC to tell them I brought it in error I also remember calling the MS helpline.

Can anyone make sense of this? How did this copy come to be working on this computer?

I'm currently wanting to do a clean install but I can't because I can't workout what happened in the past

A:How is this even impossible?

Sounds like you may have an OEM System Builder versions of Windows 8. It is intended to be installed by someone or a company building a new computer that is to be resold. That particular version includes a personal use license which allows anyone to buy an OEM System Builder copy of the software and install it on a (new or old) PC that is intended for personal use. It should have come with an installation key.

I have a folder in my external terabyte that appeared some time ago. I can not delete it with any software. I tried to delete with DOS and it says all the same. The problem is that it will not let me downgrade it to a write-able format. It seems to be locked in READ ONLY status. I have attempted to take ownership of the drive and the files, but I can not get rid of it. When I first noticed it, it was random letters. When I tried to delete the file it turned into many many "Z's". When I ran the DOS delete protocol it changed into 6 "Z's"; with in that folder is a empty folder called "Update". Since then I have not been able to do anything about it. I don't know what to do. I even downloaded a program called Delete on Boot, and still no success. I have been coming here for about a year when I caught the Rogue Internet Security 2010. It was since then, 12/30/09 the day that i reformatted to yield to the virus's victory that the file first appeared in the external hard drive. I am wits end and I know someone out there can help me. Please tell me what to do. I was told that it was very complex and destructive hack file. Am I infected again?

Hey guys it's me again with my annoying and those that seem to be impossible-to-fix-problems.

Well 3 months ago i bought an AMD 5600+ Dual Core and i had lots of problems since then, believing it was defective, i wrote to AMD support and requested an RMA. My replacement arrived today. It fixed LOTS of random crashes and my computer was able to boot up properly with both rams placed on in dual channel. I went to play on Soulstorm, it crashed, sometimes half way through a game or sometimes about 5 minutes into the game. I went on another game which is Company of Heroes, it crashed too.

The only reason i tested these 2 games was because they crashed most of the times when i had the defective processor.I thought it was the RAM but i thought it wouldn't make any sense because while waiting for my replacement to arrive, i put in my old AMD Athlon 3500+ and it worked fine with EVERY SINGLE games so it couldn't be the RAM and it can't be the replacement either. Not knowing what else to do, i took one stick of ram out, and guess what? It worked like a charm ! I really have no idea what's going on inside but if anyone had been through this or anyone who knows how to fix please help and....ermm if it works you'll be able to rest assured that a person on earth is grateful and just wants to kill you with hugs XD

And after multiple attemtps, I'm still opening IE8. Don't get me wrong, I have Google Chrome and Firefox, but I would like to have everything on this computer upgraded so I don't need to look at it in Windows Update.

Hey Hey - Happy Holidays all!!

Got a machine running XP Home SP1 and it started having strange IE problems, like not displaying backgrounds on some sites [they were mostly php Nuke sites]; then it started crashing all the time when going to Windows Update site. Then started crashing all the time unpredictably and couldn't find a pattern.

No virus [Norton clean], no spyware or adware [Webroot SpySweeper clean]
Tried reinstalling XP but to no avail
Tried to install SP2 in hopes that it would over write problems, BUT it WILL NOT install - - goes for a while and then just stops - - no messages, nothing, just stops install - attempted it 4 times and got a partial install is all; had to uninstall that.

Any ideas? Please!!

Thanks all and have happy, healthy holidays

A:IE impossible to solve? What else can I try?

I don't have XP so I have no first hand knowledge of it. However, you will find links to articles about failed SP2 installs in this list;http://www.scotsnewsletter.com/best_of/xpsp2links.htm

As for your original IE problem, I wonder if you can still try to 'repair' IE like you could in the older OS's?. To do it, you went to Add/Remove, selected IE to uninstall, and then were given the option to repair it.

Assuming that is still possible in XP, I am not saying it will help your problem because I just don't know.

OK, this is not a hasty reaction - I've had a laptop with Windows 7 for over a year and I cannot use it, at all. I've tried many, many times over the last year and it has wasted hours and hours of my time just trying to do what I do on my XP desktop. Please don't try to dissuade me - I HAVE TO put XP on my laptop now. W7 is a joke - trying to find files on a memory stick took me an hour today - where was the View button? Where was "arrange files by name"? Instead of some random order courtesy of Microsoft. OK so it's a right click but I want a button! I mustn't go on. I have an XP disk - I could just overwrite W7 and get rid, I think. I am really just asking whether I could/ should keep W7 in the background somehow - in case I am forced into ditching XP at some later stage when MS decide to cease support on it. However if it's complicated and takes more hours of my time, then forget it. So do I just insert my XP disk and go? Or what?

A:W7 impossible - need XP back!

Well you bring up two questions. First is how to install Windows XP and second is should you keep windows 7 in the background.

To install Windows XP, insert the disk in your cd drive, reboot the computer, hit any key to boot from CD, and start the installation process. You have the option to use the whole drive or not. That sort of depends on whether you already have a Windows 7 disk available. If you're that unhappy, I'd simply install Windows XP and be done with it. Sounds like you're unable to get Windows 7 to work as you'd like it, why fight it?

As a cautionary note, make sure you BACK UP ANY DATA YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE prior to starting the installation of XP. Shortly MS WILL be discontinuing support for XP, but I believe that's in 2014. You still have some time.

One other potential option available to you is if you have Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate, or Enterprise, you are licensed to download and install Windows XP Mode which allows you to run both at the same time.

This morning, while attempting to move some files around my Windows 7 64bit laptop began telling me that I didn't have permission to do so, as I needed permission from the "TrustedInstaller". I googled this issue and resolved it by configuring permissions.

Feeling a little suspicious I decided to run Malwarebytes. As I attempted to install it, when asked what language I wanted - the program defaults to "Bosanski". Being that I work in IT and have cleaned hundreds of machines I installed it anyway and was able to blindly walk my way through it and run a scan. It came back clean.

I then went to "Region and Language" in the Control Panel and once I got in there, all the values started scrolling around madly until it settled on "Afrikaans (South Africa).

I then went to download Speccy, as to give you a screenshot of my system specs and the installer did the same thing. It chose the "Portuguese" language. I then tried to download some other programs and they all did the same thing.

Another bug that is happening is that when I attempt to move any files, Windows will not allow me to scroll down...it locks onto "My Documents" and then if I scroll down and choose a different directory...it immediately scrolls back up to My Documents.

I'm at my wits end with this, as googling as brought me nothing. One thread came close to what I was describing but it had no resolution. And most of the things from his log appear identi... Read more

A:Nearly Impossible To Describe, But I'll Try

Trustedinstaller *belongs* to the operating system and should not be moved or modified in any way. Also, keep in mind, just because you scanned with MBAM and came up clean, doesn't mean that your system, is in fact, clean. It sure sounds like malware, or some kind of virus, to me. If you have an installed AV, run a full system scan. Perhaps you could try restoring to a point before you had issues. I don't believe Trustedinstaller would have anything to do with the language issues that you are experiencing.

My hard drive failed a few months back, turned it on one day and got a series of clicks and chirp sounds and it was dead. I tried a couple things suggested on here but none of them helped and ended up installing windows on a new drive. I recently found an indentical model number to the one I have on ebay(a Hitachi Deskstar for a Dell). When I receive it, I'll plug it in to make sure it works, then i'm going to attempt a disk swap between the two. I had to find a funky size torx bit for the outer screws and now I see the disk is attached with another torx that is a bit smaller so i'll need one of those too. I know this should be done in a clean room and even then it's supposed to be a hit or miss and it's likely not to work. I figured i'd give it a shot for the $28 it costs for the new drive with shipping. Am I wasting my time or do I have a slim chance of being successful? And no, I hadn't made any backups from that drive, partly because of the crappy NEW Pioneer dvd-r drive I had returned just before this happened(a couple others posted issues in this forum regarding that model also around the same time I did).

I am still having wierd problems with my computer. It all started, when I installed Roxio Media creator 7 ( and than un-installed it cause it gave me problems.) It put in the standard VGA driver, and my graphics accleleration was dead slow. After re-installing the video driver, it is better, but still abnormally sluggish, It is a nice card, a ATI Radeon 9000 w/ 128 MB or RAM. There was a second monitor, but I removed it for troubleshooting. The PC has plenty of HD space, 1 GB of 333 RAM, and a 2.4 GHX CPU. It is running XP Pro. When I open my first webpage after sign on or switching screen names, it takes like 7 minutes to load. It starts with "downloading from site", than it goes back to "starting downloading from site", and it takes forever. It usually opens pages normally after that, but not always. Same thing happens even afterwards, if I start IE. And when I load WinMX, it starts scanning for shared files(1000's) and gets stuck in the place. It takes like 5 minutes to load. (It stops responding, will sometimes turn "white". Same thing with K-lite, like blocks of it are missing, the graphics are all screwed up; it takes 6 minutes to load. I have a folder/file deleting problem..
On an XP/sp2 NTFS system.
My error states...cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk
This problem occurs when I try to delete a folder.

If i try deleting the folder that contains the problem folder i get this..
cannot delete Contains Profanity Fake-NAME : cannot find specified file.
(note: thats not the real name)

How this file happend to get on my cpu...
I just bought a new HD and I was copying all of my songs from my iPod. I was using a nifty little tool to back up (and organize) a couple thousand mp3s on my new HD. The transfer process was halted when windows encountered an invalid file name error. I think the file contained a ":".

I have tried...
safe mode method.
cmd-manual deleting method.
MoveOnBoot method.
I have even done all of those methods with the HD booted as a slave.

any suggestions plz reply.

A:Ive Tried. Impossible to Delete!

Here is a simple procedure

Sometimes you want to delete a file but when you do so an error message pops and tells you it cannot be done. Do successfully delete such a file do the following:

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.

Close all open programs.

You now need to close EXPLORER.EXE. The proper way to shutdown Explorer is to raise the "Shut Down Windows" dialog (select "Shut Down..." from the start menu), hold down CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and press the CANCEL button. Explorer will exit cleanly.

Note: The <CTRL+SHIFT+ALT> at the 'Shut Down Windows' dialog method of closing Explorer is built into Explorer. (It was specifically designed so that developers writing Shell Extensions could get Explorer to release their Shell Extension DLLs while debugging them).

Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory where the undeletable file is located in. At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete.

Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.

Close Task Manager.

For weeks now, I've been getting these Russian popups on several different websites that I frequent. I don't know how to get rid of them! I've run a plethora of malware programs and anti-virus programs and they still come up! I've left pictures below of what they look like, can anyone help me get rid of them?!
I haven't installed any toolbars or free programs recently.
No one but my son has been on my computer and he only checked my mail for me while I was in hospital.
I've tried opening Firefox in safe mode but it still happens (also happens in IE).
I've checked Firefox Add Ons and there's nothing fishy there.
Any idea how to make them go away?
This is what it looks normally (with Adblock Plus on)

Assume I know nothing (yes my name is Jon).

Anyway, I want excel to go to a url, populate some fields (date range, location), run the report, then download it in csv format.

The url is actually an internal SQL database so this should be simple via just using a SQL table. However, my company won't give me backdoor access to the server to connect to the table.

I can however, go to the url (not sure if website or url or what is the correct term) and manually input everything, run the report, export as .csv, copy, paste, and go from there. I have to do this everyday when the previous days information is uploaded to the database. There could also be changes made to other days which I need to update as well.

Is there a way I can automate this without having to bother my IT group with server permissions?

The problmem is this application has been package using the Access wizard which creates the executible file and all the DL files, but the client doesn't have any idea where the development copy is located. So I'm asking, is there a way to get behind this application to see the code once its packaged?

Holy cow I am hoping someone here can help me out for I am pulling my hair out one strand at a time.
I have a Sony Vaio All-In-One 3D touch screen computer [VPCL22SFX] that is having an issue and I am unable to figure out what exactly is going on. It does not lack in processing power or RAM which makes this even more difficult. This PC has worked perfectly since I bought it but now it seems there is something wrong and I can't figure it out. About 3 months ago it started slowing down at certain times and I have exhausted everything I know to help diagnose what the issue could be and I am coming up with nada. I only use this PC for accessing MS Office and internet surfing so I keep it very clean. When I go to YouTube the video and audio stutters and brings the PC down to a crawl. I will attempt to move the mouse at the same time and it also stutters or skips all over the place. When I try to copy data over from the PC to an external hard drive [or vice versa] the mouse exhibits the same behavior. I am on a wired connection and I am getting about 40 MBPS downloads and 4 MBPS uploads on AT&T Uverse, and I run speed tests all the time so I know the number is consistent. I have used Hiren's Boot CD to test the CPU, the RAM, the fans, the hard drive, the video card and the audio and it passes all the tests. I also used VAIO Care to test everything as well as Bluetooth, BD drive, etc. and it passed all those tests as well. I ran a check for spyware and malware...nothing w... Read more

For about 2-3 days now, it's become impossible to load certain websites. These websites include www.mediafire.com, and there is software called "Hamachi" to simulate a virtual lan server, which also won't connect at all. Hamachi gets stuck at "Probing" and mediafire.com completely fails to load. I have used websites like isitdown to check if mediafire is down for everyone of just me, and it's just me.

I have restarted the router 4-5 times, and I've tried accessing it from all computers in our home, but none of them work.

I am using Windows 8 and am with MWEB.

That sounds like an ISP problem
it is quite likely blocked by your ISP
I have friends in SA who inform me that when they reach close to their monthly limits, sites like mediafire and other sharing sites get blocked
Most SA ISPs do severely limit what you can download and give what is seen in rest of the world as very low bandwith limits for a very expensive price

Check with ISP first

I'm having real problems with this and the guides online cover different parts but don't work.
1. I have windows xp
2. I want to install windows 7 64 bit
3. I do not have a dvd, it's on an external HDD
4. I want to instal windows 7 on a 2nd HDD and dual boot.

My first problem is that I get the 'We are unable to create or save new files in the folder which the application was downloaded'. Apparently this is because its 64 bit and I'm in XP. I need to boot from the USB drive and load the windows disk from there? Is that right? How do I do that without my normal XP booting? Can I boot from the USB and install on to the 2nd HHD?

A step by step approach would be amazing if someone could talk me through it? If it's not possible I can buy a blank dvd and burn it and remove my other HDDs, but that's a real pain.

Any help would be great

Hey guys,
I've got a really weird issue and and to be honest am running out of ideas. I was infected with the claro malware this past week which was easy enough to clear up and is completely gone. I noticed this past day that Im pulling a wrong network configuration:
Host IP - (not actual) on my laptop
DHCP server -
Default Gateway -
My DNS servers are correct, my usual scope is 192.168.0.x and gateway of
I can access the internet like usual without issue but can't rdp to any LAN pc's (obviously because of the subnet)
I did a netsh int ip reset command without any success and am kind of at a loss of what to do.
The claro maleware may have nothing to do with it but since it has to do with network settings I figured it was definitely a possibility but it is definitely 100% gone, all of my network settings should be reset to default, I definitely do not have any rogue DHCP servers on my network even though with the default gateway being wrong and still having access to the internet I don't see how that could be it anyway. If any one has any ideas I would be extremely grateful.

Thank You

Ok If anyone can help me with this i will be impressed

I play on an online game and i was recently key logged. I injected a DLL into the game, and inside the dll there was a key logger.
Only one virus scanner can identify it and i don't have the virus scanner (CPsecure).

The keylogger is called Troj.Gamethief.w32.wow.bwa

Heres how this thing works. Basically the key logger doesnt run UNLESS i inject it into my game.exe. So its not a threat to any other passwords, just my game one. I believe it sends my account/pass when i load it.

If i removed the dll the keylogger would be removed also, but i want to use this program so im trying to avoid that. The only solution i can come up with is using a hex editor to stop the function. But i am not familiar enough with hex editors to do this.

So i guess i need someone with hex editing knowledge to help me remove this. or someone who knows a program i havnt found on google yet.

Had to reinstall my network driver to get as far as we did, we have connection! The issue is that the internet doesnt connect still. Both connections say enabled and when you go into repair tells me:
the following steps of the repair operation failed: renewing the IP address
we have tried to go into command prompt and put in commands for release and renewal and still not working.. any suggestions ??

ps please remeber im new to this and doing it alone now. My friend has since left for his own life (hehe) might have to talk slowly on explinations for this one..
