Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

Q: Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

Ok, so a few days ago I was on my computer and it started running a little slow so I decided to restart. This is when all the trouble began... Following the reboot at the welcome screen i was greeted by several registry errors, and a message saying a backup copy of my registry had to be loaded. So I thought ok, why did this happen? So, I rebooted again to make sure every thing was still in check. After the second reboot(not sure if I can call it that) i didn't even get the welcome screen. Instead i got a quick flash of a BSOD stop error and that was it. So after overall reboots, I figured my computer had crashed and decided to do a clean install. I got my original cd free of scratches and formatted the hard drive completely. Then, when setup began to copy the files about 5 different files could not be copied. I tried to install windows AT-LEAST 10 times. I only got past the welcome screen twice and windows was completely crippled, even though it did manage to load. I tried reformatting, repairing the install, created a new partition and tried to install, and all have failed. The thing i find strange is that almost each time it would copy files some of the files would change. So, I am at a loss and don't know what to do or try next any help. I have a 40gb hd, 256 ram, pentium 4,Msi computer with an Aopen motherboard.

Preferred Solution: Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

Pity you reformatted, sometimes that BSOD stop code gives a little insight to a problem. Could have referenced to a hardware fault and somewhat ruled out a few possibilities.
I've also had this problem with files not transfering and I just bought another CD and it worked. It happens with Server 2003 too. The CD just suddenly stops working and thats it.
You could try cleaning your CD\DVD drives laser, but thats a bit of long shot really. (didn't help in my case)

Ok so I wanted to install windows xp and did so over my vista. But then when i realized that half the drivers dont work for XP i decided to revert back to Vista until the drivers become available....however when i tried reinstalling the reinstallation endded with a black screen with my mouse in the middle....i held the power button in until it turned off and now every time i start the computer it goes to the safe mode screen where you can choose to start in safe mode or use a previously working configuration and then when i click the previously working setup option it brings me to that screen where it shows the little scrolling bar thing on the bottom of the screen like it usually does before booting windows but it stalls on this screen....somebody please help

See the section titled "Using Dell PC Restore by Symantec" at the bottom of page 131 of the "Dell Inspiron 1720 Owner?s Manual":http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst...df/DT549A00.pdfor, if you don't have a PDF reader:http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst...20/en/index.htmFrom what I read there, it will return your computer to the state at which it left the factory. There are also other sections in that area of the manual that describe other methods of restoring your system. The section "Restoring Your Operating System" begins on page 130 and describes 3 options to accomplish this. The one I mentioned above is the second of those three options. From the contents of your other thread here (Why did you start a new thread?), I think that might be the best place to start.

i tried uninstalling it cleaning uing cc leaner but nothing,
it seems like it gets stuck after it says installed .
im not sure what to do ive tried i belive everything.

A:Java on windows 32 bit wont install correctly

The first step in updating Java is that you download the installer which you save, probably in the 'Downloads' folder.

You then need to run the installer. You can do this either by using the 'Run' command or by opening Windows (File) Explorer navigating to the downloader and then double clicking on it. This will start it running. You will then get an install box which shows you the pregress of the download of the main program and its installation. When it has finished you will normally get a browser opening taking you to the 'correct version page'.

If Java is installed it should show up in 'Control panel - Programs and features'

You will notice that I have edited your topic title to make it clear that this is about installing Java and not Windows.

Hello everyone. first off, thanks for taking the time to consider my problem.

i know this is quite a redundant issue, thank you for your patience.

First off this is a newly built computer, all fresh components. after cleaning/activating the hdd via shift +f10 at win7 setup,(which took me a day to figure out) i was very excited to see my hdd available for win7 installation. as i proceed windows does its thing, after installing its time for the first restart. it restarts right back to the initial windows 7 setup. ive done a lot of research, and majority of the problems seem to be the boot priority in bios. so i made sure that it was usb-hdd, then hard drive. (win7 on flash drive for me, no dvd burner available). still the same thing, right back to initial setup. i tried maybe to remove the flash drive during the 10 second countdown to restart, but when it restarts, the windows splash screen comes up and then blue screens and restarts real quick. cant see what the error is on bsod,

there have been a couple different start up issues, "windows did not start properly" "select version of windows to start from" (or something to that effect.) but its all the same outcome. windows 7 just wont finish installation.

i know this flash drive works cuz i used it to upgrade on my gf's laptop. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Did you wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command?

Check for newer BIOS version. If none, Reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI.

Set HD first to boot in BIOS setup, trigger stick to boot using one-time BIOS boot menu key at boot.

Where did you get Win7? How is it written to stick?

I have a Packard Bell with a Pentium 2 233 mhz processor. I purchased a Diamond Viper V550 AGP card last year and when I formatted my hard drive recently it would not install correctly. I set the display adapter to standard PCI display adapter (vga) as I did the first time I installed it but the Plug and Play did not locate it upon reboot. I then insatlled the drivers manually and rebooted. Upon loading windows stopped at the "windows is now starting" prompt and froze. After several attempts, through safe mode and various drivers from both Diamond multimedia and Riva I am now booted through with the card installed as a Viper V550 but it is on windows ASD list because it cause windows to stop loading. Does anyone know how to fix this?

A:My video card wont install correctly

There's only a couple of things I can suggest. One would be: Have you tried to download the bios flash for your card?
Two would be: In the computer bios is there an option like "assign irq to agp"? and "initialize agp first"? You want to be sure to let the bios assign an irq to the agp and make sure it tries to init the agp first instead of pci. Hope this helps you out some.

Right, I've been scouring the internet for a couple of days to try and get this sorted, but so far I've had no success.

I think there are a lot of underlying issues aside from this problem, but at the moment this is probably the most important.

I'm a relative beginner as far as computer geekness goes, being only 16 years old, but being more than computer literate.

The problem arose when I tried to clear up my registry using RegSeeker and CCleaner a few days ago. Everything seemed to be fine. Then everything wasn't fine. I tried to system restore back 1 day, then 2, then 3, but none of them worked.

I tried to go restore the backup files within RegSeeker but they didn't seem to work, and then of course they disappeared after I had tried.

So then it all began I guess. I followed some advice from a friend on getting rid of the 'LiveCall' Process, which was hogging quite a bit of CPU, then things started to go wrong. I removed LiveCall and other .dll's from the Messenger folder in Program Files, then when trying to open Windows Messenger, it came up with the windows installer box 'Preparing to Install..' after a while an error popped up saying 'Windows installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode or the installer is not correctly installed'. I put all the LiveCall and .dll's I had removed back to where they are supposed to be, but still the same problems. I probably screwed things up even more whilst trying to fix them but hey.

Hello everyone..well first my problems begun awhile back but they've worsened most recently.

My computer constantly installs updates but none of them are ever installed correctly. Every other time I restart my computer I have to wait a good 15 minutes waiting for the "installed updates" to be installed(its always 3 updates and they never install). It's frustrating ugh. Also my computer has been getting a lot of popups. It's making my computer lag horribly and I just want it to be smooth running again.

hello,

I am attempting to reinstall windows xp on my pc and something is wrong. It boots to disc fine and loads all of the drivers the when it says "starting windows" it goes to the blue screen of death. I think this may be happening because of a missing windows dll file is this possible? It says one is missing when i boot up windows normally. If I write down the file name can i find some way to replace it? Any help is appreciated.

A:wont let me reinstall windows

I'm more inclined to think it is a hard drive controller error. Is your hard drive a SATA drive? If so you will either need to slipstream the drivers into your disc or load them onto a floppy and hit F6 for third party drivers when you first boot from the disc.

Hello, I'm new to these forums, but I hope that you can help me with my issue.

I recently got a second monitor and have been trying to get the two monitors to work in "extend" mode, where you drag the mouse off of one side to get to the other monitor.

The two monitors are a Viewsonic VA2037a-LED, and an AOC e2051Sn.

My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R7 200 series.

My current setup is as follows: I have a VGA Y-splitter connected to the Graphics card VGA port. Attached on the Y-end of the Y-splitter are the two monitors. It looks like this:

------------------

Here is my issue, and it's a bit complicated. Basically, Windows only recognizes this as *one* monitor. Both monitors work fine -- they act like they're mirrored right now. But that's because Windows only recognizes this as *one* monitor, rather than *two*. Hitting Detect does nothing, and hitting Identify shows the big "1" on both monitors.

It gets more interesting though. In the device manager, I can only find ONE monitor "installed", a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". Looking at the driver location (C:/Windows/System32/monitor.sys), it's likely that Windows is just throwing the default monitor driver it has at anything that comes through the VGA port.

In trying to fix the problem, I came to, of course, reinstalling drivers. First, I reinstalled my GPU driver. Next, I began to try to install the ViewSonic driver from the CD it came with (the Viewsonic is the new dri... Read more

A:Windows monitor drivers can't install correctly

This is normal. Just connecting a y-splitter cable to a single port isn't going to be enough. Each monitor needs a dedicated output port to have an independent display. In some cases a video card will have a specialized single port that can drive two independent displays with a specialized cable, but it doesn't sound like yours is one of those.

Also, there are no drivers for monitors, and what most people think of as drivers are just color profiles. So you're wasting your time on that one. PC to monitor communication is one-way, meaning there's no need for a driver. The only real exceptions might be if a monitor has a built-in webcam or some such.

What you need to do is dump the y-splitter and connect each monitor via its own port on the video card. With LCD monitors, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort is by far preferable to VGA. The only way a y-splitter would work is if you're using the one provided along with the video card designed specifically for that kind of function. Just attaching a y-splitter on a normal VGA port will get you exactly what you describe. I will also save you some time, trouble and probably expense by telling you that you shouldn't bother trying any DVI to VGA adapters or something similar. You can't convert a digital signal to analog just by rerouting some pins in an adapter.

Compaq Presario v6000, vista Home Premium

looking at my update history, updates were always successful until 11/15/2007, when a kb941600 update failed (800F0826). from there, occasionally an update will work, but most wont. there are hundreds and hundreds of failed ones listed. currently we have 59 important and 1 optional update that havent installed. one time i tried downloading them and it failed, then the next time id downloaded, installed, rebooted, then said they didnt configure correctly and reverted. I see no obvious trend in which ones work and which dont, and listing them could take forever. i could post screenshots of the list if that would help.
I can see that windows defender updates work
security updates for vista, or net framework, dont tend to, rarely they will...

i went through a bunch of the most recent errors, here they are, each came up on multiple updates

80079A91
80070643
80246007
800F081F - service pack 2 gives this

i tried "microsoft fix it", not the "aggressive" one though
i tried the repair.bet thing on the microsoft site. other than that i have tried turning off my firewall.
we had a google redirect virus not long ago that we ran about a gazillion fixes and antivirus things for, so im thinking its not a virus problem... although i cant rule out that one changed something in 2007.

any ideas? =/
thanks in advance

A few days ago windows decided not to boot, the night before all I did was put it to sleep which I have not had any problems with previously. I tried the recovery tool which failed, there apparently was no system image I could revert back to, along with no automatic or manual backups. I then tried to reinstall windows both with deleting my files and saving my files neither of which worked. I have also tried reinstalling with a custom setup but it says that windows cannot be installed on the drive it was on before and to ensure that the disks controller is enabled.
After some research I went into the bios and changes the drive controller from AHCI to IDE and tried the custom install again, still getting the same message. I changed it back to be safe and tried once again but still no luck to be had.

I have been running windows 7 with a dual boot of windows XP for the last couple of months now with no problems at all, until yesterday.

I had a webcam I needed to install so I used the Vista drivers as no Windows 7 drivers were available. This was mistake number 1. As soon as the driver installed the PC blue screened and then would not boot. It got to the starting windows screen and just sat there. I went into the repair option and did a system restore. Now just a black screen, not even starting windows. I tried to repair again and the result was that a "recent hardware install was causing windows not to start", or something along those lines. So, I followed Microsoft's article on finding what driver was causing it and changing the registry to stop the driver loading on boot. I could not find the driver in question and after several hours of trawling the internet I gave up and did a clean reinstall.

After the reinstall I updated windows 7 and installed AVAST anti virus. I rebooted the PC to check progress and the same thing happened again! This time the auto repair said that "A recent patch was stopping windows from starting". I did a system restore and nothing.

A:Windows 7 wont start - onto 5th reinstall in one day!

I would install just the minimal, initially, and see if it works OK for a day or two before adding any addtional software. e.g. Install Windows, Install motherboard chipset drivers if applicable, install device drivers for sound, video, ethernet, etc. Only install Microsoft Security Essentials, do not install Open Office, Adobe Reader, Messenger, etc. If this works for a day or two then start installing peripherals and then see if it works OK before installing any additional software. Then only install one application and again see if it's working OK. One step at a time to help in possibly isolating what is causing the problems.

Okies this is driving me nutty, I got a triple boot system, (OSx86, Ubuntu, Windows 7) Well on windows 7 even though the install program (extracted from the newest 32-bit bootcamp update) says it installed correctly when I attach the mouse it is detected as an HID mouse. I tried to change the driver, but I cannot find the driver installed on the system. the only one I can find under apple is the mighty mouse (which is a microsoft driver) and doesn't support any of the features. if I go to the install folder and use the inf file

It gives me an error message that the folder I specified does not contain a compatible driver for my device. Make sure that it is a valid win32 driver.
however it seems like no matter how much I browse I cannot find the applewirelessmouse driver anywhere. not even under apple when you specify your own driver.

Anyone else run into these problems it seems like alot of people have the scrolling working in windows 7 man I dun care about advanced features I just wanna scroll. Since when I'm operating on battery I like to use win 7 cause it gives me better battery life. (I can use SHE (Super Hybrid Engine) and dynamically change the fsb to a lower value) which uses less power.

I placed an xp cd into the cd-drive and on boot-up get asked to boot from cd ? when I do this it still goes to windows and the set up does not continue. I have tried both cd drives and different xp cd?s. They work ok on other computers

If i go to bios to disable all options except cd boot it still goes to windows even after pressing the key to get the only the cd to boot.

I also noticed that there are two lines 'boot from cd:' that appear when there is no cd in the drive and then if there is a cd - you get the other message above afterwards.

I have recently reformatted this computer and have done so a few times with no problems before.

What options do i have?

A:[SOLVED] windows wont reinstall/reformat

G'Day dezzmo, Welcome to TSF!

I suggest that the best way for you to erase your Hard Drive would be to use a freeware program called "Darik's Boot N' Nuke" available from here.
(Click the coloured link.)

Boot N' Nuke will completely erase the Drive back to RAW format, and give you the best chance of reinstalling the Windows? Operating System.

Give this a try and post back with the results.

I must add that Boot N' Nuke will take quite some time to do its job.
You will have to use the same Windows Version CD for your Product Key, or you will not be able to activate it.

Kind Regards,

The other day I restarted my computer and when it came back up I didn't even have to put in my password, it just went straight to the desktop and then an error came up that said Desktop not accessible. My start menu thing looked different, like windows 95 style and I only had three icons on my desktop. I couldnt load a cd, open any progams, do anything with accounts or anything. Went into safe mode but couldnt do anything there either. Still had my documents though! Yay! I have two things, C: and D:, so I moved all my files to D: to keep them safe. Finally found a way to load the windows cd by doing F12 and then when I tried to install windows it says error 0x80070017. So I decided I would reformat my C: drive so I could just start over. Nope. Now when I start it up it says BOOTMGR Missing press ctrl alt del to restart. Pressed f12 tried to install windows, nope nope. Just keeps popping up that error. Do I just throw my computer in the dumpster now or what? I dont understand what is going on.
When I try to do startup repair it does not work, says it cannot repair it because of missing boot manager.I have looked up every BOOTMGR is missing repair guide and solution, not a single one works. Windows will not install. I dont understand what to do, but are my files on D: atleast still safe? Is there a way I can get them again? I really hope so, even if I cant save the computer Iwant those files. Let me know what to do please!

Any ideas?

This is new to me, but try a possible re-install. It possible that part of the files were installed on the C(or whatever your default drive is) drive. It's common to happen with Microsoft programs, not sure about adobe though.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer, and also Microsoft Office Pro Plus with Business Contact Manager.
When I try to install BCM, it says it is missing a Microsoft.net component, and then it appears in Outlook as an option, but won't run. When I select BCM from under "File" on the left when in Outlook, it says it is installed, but not enabled. When I click on the "Enabled" button, it just sends me back to the screen I was on before such as the "Inbox" or "sent mail". I have seen tips on other help sites about going into the "options" menu, then "add-ins" and then checking the BCM box that is not checked, but have tried this to no avail. The box is always unchecked when I go back into that screen. In the Add-ins list, the BCM Loader shows active, but not the BCM itself - it shows under inactive add-ins. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BCM, but I have the same results every time.

Please give me suggestions,
Jeannie

Hi all.
I usually am pretty ok with computers and dont ask for help, however my current problem has left me somewhat baffled.

I ordered an install of a new motherboard not long ago, and had 2 hdd's at the time.
One with a regular connection, one with SATA connection.
I wasnt the one doing the installation of the new motherboard, but sent the computer to a shop.
Once I got it back, it was updated with a new version of windows xp pro and had no problems whatsoever.
Soon after, I decided to reinstall windows to an older version, since I never liked windows xp SP2, It isnt really required.
I booted up my computer with a windows installation cd in my cd rom, and everything was ok untill I got to choosing on which drive I want to install the windows on: Only one was present, and it was the regular connection one.
I didnt think much of it at that moment and installed the windows on that hdd.
Once it came up after installing, the computer simply wasnt reading my second hdd.
I figured that it could be because I installed an older version of windows and something might have gone wrong with it being able to read SATA connections, but it seemed strange since the BIOS wasnt able to read that hdd aswell.
Well, I ignored the problem for a while thinking that maybe if i can update my BIOS to read SATA or something of the sort it could be ok, but i then bought a DVD burner with SATA connections and it could read the burner with no problem, that immediately eliminated my susp... Read more

"since I never liked windows xp SP2, It isnt really required"...

What ever gave you that idea? What planet are you on? XP, SP2 is required for all the critical Microsoft hardware/software updates...

Get your head out of the sand and put XP, SP2 back on your system. You'll be surprized at how much better your system will run.

Really, anyone that says they don't need XP, SP2 is saying that they are running an illegal copy of XP

How problem came about: The other day i restarted my computer. during the blue "Shutting Down..." screen, my computer said it was installing Windows Updates, "Installing 1 of 99... Do not power off". I pulled the laptop onto my lap and out comes the power plug! (My comp's batteries are shot and relies on the power cord). Well i shut down my computer during the screen that said "installing updates, do not shut down." Since then, audio hasn't worked.

When the computer booted up again, the sound didn't work. So I tried letting windows updates finish updating which it did successfully. But my sound drivers, webcam drivers, and modem drivers don't work and wont install. (Right now i just want to fix my sound).

The bottom right speaker has an X on it (usually the muted icon), and when i click on it, it asks to reinstall the High def audio device driver:

When I tell it to reinstall the driver, it returns with a screen that says it couldn't fix the issue and that "High Definition Audio Device has a driver problem."

Major thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

Problem started on 11/29. Had a power failure during a Windows Update. Computer has since been unable to start. Startup Repair is unable to automatically fix the problem and it wont let me restore to an earlier point.

I followed much of this thread but was still unable to solve it.

I finally gave up and tried to install windows using the recovery partition on the HD but i'm getting an error message saying the windows installation is unable to complete.

I cannot do a complete wipe because this is my business' computer and there are pertinent files on there.

Can anyone help please? Thanks

Hi eMachine, Welcome to Sevenforums.

There is a cool feature of the Windows Vista and 7 installers. If you have a previous install of Windows on the HDD (be it XP, Vista or 7) and start the new install it will actually do whats called a Old Files so long as you do not format the HDD.

What it does is it will install 7 and tak the old Windows install and put it on C:\ in a folder called 'Windows.Old'. This includes the entire old C:\ from the previous install including Program Files, Windows folder and User folder.

What you need to do is get into your BIOS (or if you have a OEM computer such as a Dell, HP or Toshiba press the button to open the boot manager) and tell it to boot to the CD/DVD. Have the Windows 7 install disk in the drive and boot to it. When it starts, tell it to install Windows and when you get to the part with the HDD, do not format it. Just click next. It will tell you it found a previous Windows installation and that it will move it to 'Windows.Old'. Continue with the install and there ya go.

You will have access to all the old files you had before, minus Programs since they wont be registered properly but will still be there.

sorry if this is in the wrong forum..you cant post new threads in "everything software"?

So basically I've given up on wmp 10 and was going to just re-install it. (btw, is there a file I should save to keep track information? like playcounts and stuff?) It takes like 20 minutes to actually start, and if I look at a playlist or something, it takes like 10 mintues to view the playlist..with only 4 songs in it.

Anyways, when I try to re-install, i get the error, "It was not possible to complete setup. Windows Media Player 10 was not installed. To update windows, run Windows Media Player 10 Setup again."

Well, I seem to have found my solution on the microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../0073.mspx#EDC
sorry for being stupid...But I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it.
I went into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and right clicked on shared documents (it says my documents on the site..does that matter? I only have one account..why are they "shared"?) and click properties..but I see no security tab, just general and sharing. And I see no "Group or user names box" in either tab.

any help? Am I following it wrong?

Hello, I've a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop which has Vista on it.

Windows will not boot past the main screen, it ends up restarting over and over.

I attempted to install Windows 7 on the drive without doing a clean install. The Installation hung at "Completing Installation"

I installed from a flash drive because for some reason this laptop wont install from the cd rom drive.

I need to salvage many important business related files from the laptop and don't want to do a clean install unless absolutely necessary.

Is it possible to salvage the files from this laptop? I cant boot into it, no safe mode, nor standard boot. Nor can I seem to be able to 'over write' or 'set aside' vista and install windows 7

Please Help

Do a system restore to a point before you installed the driver.

FWIW with creative, I only install the driver not all of the other apps, etc that come on the CD or the downloaded software.
