Default Settings for registry key - can anyone take a look

Q: Default Settings for registry key - can anyone take a look

Hi whilst working on a recent device set-up issue on Windows 8 - I have noticed some discrepancies on some of OS's in the registry and wondered if some of you could be kind enough to take a peek at your registry on Windows 8 and confirm a default Binary for me please:
Thanks so much

If have conflicting issues here and someone with an unamended registry can perhaps tell me the default value please? This will assist me greatly - As I see different values on my Laptops I am now unsure of the default

Preferred Solution: Default Settings for registry key - can anyone take a look

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The story goes like this.. My bro, did something with the computer.
After whatever he did. The default icon of the .ani files changed into
a blank paper icon. I usually see in it's own icon.. Also the file type got weird..
Something like this..
(Name) ~ (Type)
hotsage.ani ~ Cursor

It turned into Cursor instead of Animated Cursor.
I hope you guys can give me the default registry for the .ani file.

Oh yes.. I see it as a blank paper icon in Windows Explorer.. But when changing cursors
I see it normally.. Thnx guys..

Also if I posted this thread on the wrong section. Forgive me..

A:Can anyone give me the default registry settings for the .ani file?

Try restoring the default file association for .ani files, download and use the one for .ani files.

I am running Microsoft Windows Vista Business Professional SP2 (OEM) on a Dell Inspirion.

I messed with the Vista Professional SP2 registry editor, trying to tweak my system for faster start up.

I downloaded Black Vipers Safe Reg File. I started hearing beeps that tell me I have errors.
I went to his site to find out how to get it back to Vista Default and his advice was to download the Default reg file and right click it and then click merge.
I still keep hearing beeps that tell me I have errors.

Is there any way to Restore the Registry to Default Settings, without using System Restore, as my last Restore contains the same errors.
Is there a file on Microsoft.com that has the Default Registry that I could download?

Any help would be truly appreciated. And yes, I've learned my lesson, will not use Registry Cleaners ever again! :-(

A:Is there a way to Restore the Registry to Default Settings, w/o using Sys.Restore?

Before editing the register, you should always back it up, but that doesn't help you now. Your best chance to get what you're calling default settings are to go back to the earliest restore point and see if it works.

Hi,
Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

There is a software which often changes the proxy settings so I decided to config the internet settings registry right to reject the proxy settings. But When I decided to delete this software and return the rights back, I suddenly found that I can not change
the proxy settings manually!
The detail is that I change the auto proxy url, to let my pc use a pac file and I don't want any softwares to change. However, when I decided to give the rights back and try to change the url back, it never success, and even the same when i'm sure I have
cleared this url in the whole registry, but it back, as it never changes!
I check the registry rights twice or more to make sure that the rights has given back, just like it originally should be. But it never works.
So the result is I have to clear and reinstall the WINDOWS 10 AGAIN!
Never should you save such information both in registry and somewhere I don't know! Or you should let these stuffs out of the ** registry!

(windows 7) I accidentally messed up the security settings in the "Default Folder" (a shortcut?) of the Users folder.
I removed administrators permissions , that caused my pc to be unable to restore to previous restore point correctly. However, I was able to re-add the admin permission and everything now is fine.
Yet I need help here.
1 could anyone post screenshots of the default "default folder" security settings? I need to set it back to the default one even though now it works fine.
2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?
Thanks for helps in advanced. And I don't want to go to Microsoft supports because they always give robotic replies with no helps at all.

I'm thinking possibly there are default settings for the desktop icons in the registry that have been deleted. Thoughts and suggestions please. Now to obtain the smallest REGISTRY? My REGISTRY is completely corrupt, how to be reset to default? What must I retain to be able to launch XP.

Can U delete the whole REGISTRY and still launch XP with I/O functioning ?

Please Help.

Would XP launch with NO REG files ?

A:Registry Default ? Reset ?

No, Every Windows file and program has at least one Registry entry if not dozens or hundreds. No Registry, then you have no Windows. Unless you made a backup of your registry, you cannot set it to default.
Can you explain what is your problem and we can offer some solutions?
Can you boot the computer? If so, go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing System files.
You can also do a Repair Install to replace any corrupted Registry files.

Hello, i was wondering if my registry was good/defauly because about 5 months ago a friend of mine was messing with my pc since i tried to downgrade to wmp 11 since i didnt like wmp12. he had trouble doing it it and i don't know if he saved the regitry once he changed it or not. feedback would be great thanks

A:how do i know if my registry is good/default...

Hi, ExplicitUrSelf.

If all your friend did was remove any leftover registry entries from wmp12, your computer should be fine.

I personally do not recommend editing the registry unless absolutely necessary. It is much too easy to do serious damage to the system.

Hello all,

I need some advice about a particular problem I'm facing. First off, the background:

I got stuck with the spyware.quake malware today. Followed the steps for its removal posted in these forums and removed it succesfully. However, in the course of that removal, I deleted some entries from the registry, namely : spywarequake, regperf, dcomcfg, and msmsgs.exe

Now the problem is, I can't seem to run MSN messenger. I've done everything I can think of, uninstalling MSN, rebooting the PC, installing MSN again, rebooting again, but nothing works. When I click on the msn messenger .exe file, the process starts, I mean, I see it in the taskmanager, but the MSN messenger window doesn't open and I can see the little MSN icon in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar.

Methinks the problem is with some entry I removed from the registry and I was wondering if there is anyway to restore an older version of the registry. I have NOT taken a backup of the registry. I turned off the system restore to fix that malware issue, so I don't have any restore points either. Does windows create an automatic backup of the registry by itself? If so, does anyone know the name and/or extension of this file?

Any help will be appreciated

A:Automatic / Default Registry Backup?

Hi Pinto Khan.Sorry I can't help you with your current problem, but ERUNT is a very good utility which automatically saves a copy of your registry each time you reboot. It is a freebie and is available here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html

Hello,
I am looking for a way to avoid the propmt or application list that pops up upon clicking a .pdc file.
I would like to fix a default application to be the one to open all my .pdc files.
I would like to make this change through a registry entry preferably. Even a script solution is fine.

I want to do this via modifications to registry or by running a script. I want these settings on my client machines, so there is no question of right clicking. These are silent steps.
I am looking for preferably a VB Script that when run sets a default file opener for an extension.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

It's not a script, but try this:

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PDC]
@="Custom_PDCFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Custom_PDCFile\Shell\Open\Command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\PDC File Application\\pdcopener.exe\" \"%1\""
Copy an paste the above into Notepad, make the appropriate changes, and save it as "pdc.reg"

Note the folloowing changes MUST be made:Custom_PDCFile must be change to somethng else THAT DOES NOT ALREADY EXIST IN THE REGISTRY
All @= values must be enclude in quotes. If the specified value itself contains quotes, then use \" to differenciate them
When adding path names, be sure to change all \ path delimiters to \\

Hi everybody, I'm not sure what messed up my registry keys but the administrators users can't open them anymore on my Windows 7 machine. So I'd like a method that reset them to the default settings.

A:Restore default registry permissions

I found this on another site. It may or may not fix your problem
First you need to download SubInACL from here SubInACL is a command-line tool that enables administrators to obtain security information about files, registry keys, and services, and transfer this information from user to user, from local or global group to group, and from domain to domain.
Create a file with the name reset.cmd under C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools folder
Now you need to Edit the reset.cmd file and add the following lines
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f
Save and exit your file
Now you need to open command prompt run the following command
cdcd “C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools”
after this press enter and enter the following command
reset.cmd
after entering this please press enter
after a few minutes by processing subinacl, the permission will be reset

Hi,

I recently made the mistake of installing a program (bitTorrent) and did not read the screens thoroughly enough before clicking 'next'. The program has f%!#ed up my browser (I use IE version 6) so that now when i try to type in addresses without 'www' it doesn't go to them, instead it goes to some noname search service called Ask.com. I frequently type in https addresses for school servers right in the address bar and it used to just go right to them, now i have to type in the 'https://' every time. I removed the toolbar in Add/Remove programs but it still does it. I've looked everywhere in the internet options for the association that causes this but can't find anything. Does anyone know which registry key i can manipulate to get rid of this problem and go back to how it was before?

Thanks in advance

Can I change the default settings for Font and Font Size, and the Page Margins in WordPad and Microsoft Works 2000? If so, please tell me how. I am getting tired of having to manually change the settings every time I start a new document. Thank you, Robert

A:default settings

I don't believe this can be done in WordPad.

However, in Works:
Change Works Default Font
Selecting the default font in Microsoft Works is a simple matter. Open the MS Works word processor and in the menu bar to Format | Font | Style. Click on Font and Style and a dialog box pops up. In the dialog box, choose your font by highlighting it, then highlight the font size that you prefer. Select a color if you choose or leave the color on auto. Move to the right side of the dialog box and click on the Set Default button. This font choice will appear every time that you open Works. If you are changing the font for a single document only then click on the OK button. Click to expand...

and
Q. Every time I create a new document, I want it to follow a specific style, such as using default margin settings. How do I do this?

A. To specify custom settings that apply to each new document, you should create a blank document with those setting, and then save it as a template. To do this, use the instructions below:

Create a new document and apply any settings you want in your new documents. For example, if you want all new documents to have a .5-inch margin, apply that change in the Page Setup area.

On the File menu, click Save As.
Click Template.
Type a name for your template. To use this template for all new documents of that type, select Use This Template For All New Documents.
Click OK. Click to expand...

Using this second bit of advice, you can change both the font ... Read more

Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If this helps, this is what I found for this:

Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..

If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I was told that there is a setting that allows you to restore " default settings" if i am a user and i downlload a program from the net . When the machine is rebooted it is gone? win2k.. We have about 400 users and they can download anything all the cute screen savers and cursors then complain about a slow machine. I realize that i am fighting this battle from the wrong end the the other end is not at my control
thanks

A:default settings

There are ways to restore defaults to individual applications or OS components, but I am not aware of any "global default restore" capability. The closest I know of is with XP where you can roll-back the system to a previous checkpoint if the right options are enabled. But, there is even a problem here... if you don't know what you're doing you can "un-do" legitimate changes to the system. You may have better luck by figuring out how to use "permissions" to restrict what the users can and cannot update.

How to restore the registry editor to its default state?.....................,

A:Restore the registry editor to its default state?

There is no such thing as a standard default state for the registry. The contents of the registry depend on the OS type, OS settings, hardware settings, applications installed and uninstalled etc. So the registry cannot be common across different windows installs.

If you think your registry is corrupted, you can do a system restore to go back to a previous point of time. Or if you think your registry may get corrupted in the future and want to take preventive steps, then apart from setting restore points, you can also backup the registry and restore from that backup at a later point. Theres a nice tutorial.

Hello !

I have a weird problem :

I'm using foobar2000 and mpc-hc for music and video play, and i have set them to be the default programs to open respectivly music and video files.

I tried to search where the registry keys are saved to make sure it's the default player for other local users too.

On
Code:
HKCU\Software\Classes
i see nothing related to .mp3 (while double clicking an .mp3 file open it as intended with foobar2000)

Maybe foobar wrote in local machine ?

I took a look at
Code:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.mp3
It exist, but what a surprise, by default i see "WMP11.AssocFile.MP3"
I took a look at it, and found
Code:
"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:6 /Play "%L"
I have the very same problem for video files and MPC-HC.

What dark magic do they uses, and what can i do to set default programs for theses files set to foobar2000 and MPC-HC on future new users, and currently created users ?

(In case it helps, i used windows default program to set musics to default on foobar, and used MPC-HC internal tool for it for videos)

I'm really lost.

I?ve set some custom registry and gpedits - for example - to dissable indexing, and such, and was wondering how to put back the default registry settings, without having to restore/reset the pc?
I don?t remember having them backed up somewhere, and the PC was just updated to Windows 10 recently - so is it possible to revert back to Windows 8.1 and the registry will stay original? Or just how do I put them to their original status?

And please don?t you know how much time it would take to revert back to Windows 8.1, on a slow laptop - Lenovo B50-70?

A:where can i get windows xp vista and 7 'ALL' Default Registry files?

Hello game01,

Sorry, but the default registry files for the complete computer are unique per computer. You will not be able to use another computer's copy of the registry on your computer.

The only way to go back to default like that is to do a clean install.

You could also do a system restore using a restore point dated that you would like to have the system go back to. This includes the registry.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

For some reason, all my .txt files open with the registry by default.

I absolutely do not want this.

I can't change it, either. When I right click on a .txt file, and go to "Open With..." and select "Notepad," the check box at the bottom which says to open this program by default is disabled. How can I either enable the button or change the default open with program?

I looked in the registry under .txt extensions and the registry says it's opening with notepad, but it's not. It asks for permission to access the registry when I double-click a .txt file.

Help. D:

Hey Guys
I need your help

I want to determine by registry/policy, that Google is set as Default. I already saw some questions about this here and there, but i tried these settings as recommended, with no success.

So here is what I've done:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}\

?URL?=?http://www.google.com.au/search?q={searchTerms}&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source}&ie={inputEncoding?}&oe={outputEncoding?}?

?DisplayName?=?Google?

"(Default)"="Google"

I overwrite all of the Default given Bing Properties and I didnt create a new key or deleted one.

Where is my Problem?

I still get Bing as Search Engine.

Cheers

Can anyone direct me to the registry setting for the default folder view in W2K. I want to make it List view.
We run mandatory profiles and when making new profiles always change the default view to list. But when we assign the profile, in some cases the views are fine but others if you go down 2 or 3 levels down the view changes back to large icons. We can have 2 identical users logged onto 2 different machines and the views are different. We have spent quite a bit of time comparing different users to find out why and have decided a registry change would probably be easier.
Any Help would be appreciated.

A:Change default folder view in registry

I don't know if I can be all that much help to you, as far as any registry settings, because I'm not aware of any. But what I would do, is log in as admin and change the profile to ntuser.dat, log in as that user, go through all the levels, changing the folder view to list each time you see it them not in list view. Log out and back in as admin and change the ntuser.dat file back to ntuser.man and delete the ntuser log file. Hopefully, the changes will stick next time you log in with that profile. Hope this helps if you haven't tried it already.

I don't yet know how widespread this is nor what causes it but if there is a quick and easy one click method to reset I would appreciate the info.
What is happening is that the MailTo default is getting changed to the browser default. Or at least that was the case in the two I have seen so far. If the browser default is Edge Mailto is set to Edge. If default is Chrome, MailTo is Chrome.
At least in all of our systems, mailto need to be Outlook 2016 and if this can be set and locked in the registry i need to be able to do that. Oddly, not everyone has the problem. No one knows when it started as most people never pay attention. It was just reported to me today and i found that my own Windows was the same setup defaulting to Chrome. Meaning any hyperlinks on websites that referred to mailto never open Outlook.
Thanks

Alright, I found a blog post that tells me how to reset my Registry Permissions, but I'm having a problem doing it, and I might be doing it wrong. So can somebody give me a little step by step? I've done step one, and step two, I created a notepad document with the content in step 3 (I think that's right..) and it is currently in the C:\Program Files\Windows ResourceKits\Tools folder folder. Step 4....I started Command Prompt....and then step 5. I type those things into command prompt but it tells me it doesn't recognize "cdcd" as an internal or external command. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Help please?!"1. Download and install SubInACL2. Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows ResourceKits\Tools folder.3. A:Can Somebody Help Me With These Instructions? (resetting Registry Permissions To Default)

Try typing it with only one "CD". CD stands for Change Directory - and I suspect that the extra "CD" is just a typo. The command would then change your directory to the directory where reset.cmd is located - then would run reset.cmd

I'm using Windows XP, installed with IE6.

I read elsewhere on this Forum about a Registry Update to set the margins (to 2mm) from the 20mm default IE6 seems to impose. This worked fine for me thanks, and I was really happy UNTIL - I opened a JPEG in IE6, selected Print Preview, and - viola - the Registry Settings (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup\Margin_Left (&Margin_Right) got reset to their original values of 20mm (or .7874 inch)

I think my question is quite simple (so forgive me if this is a bit naive): how do I stop IE (or any other application) from updating the Registry settings I wish to preserve? Can I 'lock' the Page Setup Entries to the values I want to keep? I never want these values to change from 2mm.

The software and hardware has been supplied for me to use, so I can't go and update it (I have 135 machines to install!), and the S/W was bought centrally.

Hope you can help, and thanks in advance.
