I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there, I need a laptop for my studies - that's why I looked for my HP 650 Laptop I used three years ago. First thing I did was upgrading to Windows 10. I didn't have any problems doing that at home connected to my home wifi. When I'm at school there are two wifi networks: one secured wifi and one unsecured wifi. If you connect to the unsecured one a log in browser window pops up asking for a username and password. When connecting to the secured one the credentials are the exact same ones. BUT: I don't have any problems connecting to the unsecured one. Problems occur when I try to connect to the secured (faster) one. This morning I was able to use the secured one. After 2 or 3 hours I was kicked out and ever since I am not able to reconnect to the secured one. The latest drivers for the network adapter are installed. I also tried adding the network manually. I unchecked "Varify the server's identity by validating the certificate". Now I am asked to put in my username and password in a system window - but it doesn't go through and I am asked over and over again without any established connection. Any ideas what to do?

so what i want to do is be able to go on the internet on my phone/ipod etc using one of my schools wifi networks. my high school has 3 different wifi networks, but the all 3 of them are secured, and require a password to connect to, and none of us [students] know the password. [i assume] these wifi networks are mainly used for the school's computers, and i was thinking maybe there was some kind of way i can find the password(s) using one of these computers.

obviously though the student do not have administrative privileges, but i DID happen to find a way to access the command prompt (using a .bat file). and im sure that there has to be some kind of way i can use the commands to show me the wifi password, but i have no idea what the commands i would need to enter are. if anyone knows how to do this PLEASE tell me, i would be really happy even if i am taking the risk of possibly getting suspended if they found out o.o..

A:accessing my school's secured wifi network

Your schools wifi is secure for a reason and if you want the password ask for it. I doubt anyone here will advise you on how to HACK it since it is probably illegal to do so.

Hey Guys,

My WiFi started acting strangely lately, right after a "technician" messed with it and now I can't connect to ANY secured wireless networks (including my own!), however when I try to connect to unsecured wireless networks, they do work. *I AM able to connect to these same networks via ethernet cable.* I have secured networks at home and at work, both of which I know the passwords for, both of which used to work wirelessly everyday and now they do not.

When I try to connect to a secured network I get this error message every time: "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." I have tried many times to no avail.

Although I get this error message, I know for a fact that I am definitely within the range of the wireless signal; I used other laptops and smartphones to connect to the networks just to make sure.

Please help if you know what can be causing this, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

A:WiFi Problem Can't connect to secured networks

Does your Wireless adapter use a different utility to monitor wireless networks other then the Windows Utility? There may be another icon in the System Tray in the lower right hand corner that is disabled. Usually right clicking this icon and enabling it should work. Or you may need to find it in the All Programs list to start it. There should be a section where you can edit the saved password for your wireless adapter and once that is removed, you can retype the password for the secured wireless network you are trying to connect to.

Hello all,

I use an Acer Aspire V7 581PG which is around 3 years old and had constant WiFi problems, though manageable until now.

I usually use a Huawei O2 dongle for work because my home WiFi doesn't reach to my studio.

Its a USB dongle that I leave plugged in most of the time, but when I go downstairs it connects to our home WiFi.

Earlier I was downstairs using the home WiFi, shut the lid, and later took it upstairs to connect to the dongle, but now I am getting 'secured, no internet' when attempting to connect.
I have attempted to connect to my Huawei dongle, my home Sky Router WiFi, my phone hotspot, hardwiring ethernet to the Sky Router and at another house's BT Homehub 5 and the issue is still the same.

Trying to fix it I have attempted:

Uninstalled the WiFi adapter and restarted with scan for hardware changes. (Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222)Netsh commands (with a restart following)ip config releaseip config start (didn't work at all)ip config stop (when doing this it failed and mentioned something about no media connected?)Disabling Bluetooth modules

Entering a static iPv4 address and Google DNS addresses show 'Connected - Secured' but no pages load nor does pinging microsoft.com (4 packets sent, 0 received, 100% loss)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

These can be rather tough problems to resolve. We really need a detailed account of what you have tried that is relevant.

For example see the list that would apply to your OS and IE version in the article below under "Problems accessing secure sites/ cannot install 128 bit encryption"

Does your IE show 128 bit encryption. Click Help > About IE on the IE Tools tab.

Also provide us with a HijackThis Scanlog:

And one very important thing, verify for us whether it is an Internet Explorer problem specifically or you can access secure sites using another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Opera. You can download and install the non-java version of either if you just want a quick download.

Why doesn't Webroot open a new/separate secured browser window for banking and other financial transactions like most other malware solutions such as ESET, Kaspersky and Avast?
I hate these separate and often troublesome secured windows (so does my non-tech wife) and is a major reason I left ESET and went to Webroot. I'm wondering though how does Webroot protect financial transactions without having to open a separate, secured browser window and all the other AV's (it seems) require a new secured window?

Hello forum people,

I have the following problem on my Toshiba Satellite R850 running Win7 64bit: I decided to change the wireless adapter so I can connect to the 5GHz wifi network my router provides which wasnt possible on the Atheros wireless adapter it came with. I changed it to a Intel Wireless AC 3160- the physical change went quick and without problems and while the adapter is basically working now the problem I'm facing now is that the F8-hotkey function to de-/activate the Wifi and Bluetooth is no longer working. When I press the hotkey button all the different hotkey combinations show up on the upper part of the screen, but now there's only F1-F7 and F9, F8 just went missing. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Thanks in advance and take care

This is the exact opposite of most WiFi issues. I have two guest networks set up on my wireless router (Asus RT-68U), one for each of my daughters. I change the password daily in order to make them earn the password with chores after school. My older daughter's T450 refuses to stop connecting to the WiFi, even persisting through reboots. MAC address filtering fails, as does turning off internet access to her MAC/IP combination. After changing the password or enabling one of the more strict rules, eventually, randomly, her laptop will finally decide to stop accessing her WiFi connection. I am fairly certain it is something with the Lenovo as I have two other laptops, one Asus and one HP that both respond as I would expect to a WiFi password change. Any ideas as to why this happens with the Lenovo?

Sorry if this has already been discussed. Couldn't find on a search.

I have a small secured network in my office with a modem/router networking three computers wirelessly. I would like to add another router that would allow clients in the waiting room of my office to have internet access. Could you assist me in a setup or map? I already have a wireless Linksys router available to use as the second router.

Thank You

A:Adding Wifi Network to an Already Secured Network

Are those in the waiting room to be allowed into OR forbidden access to your Lan systems?

You already have

to Isolate the W.R from your lan, connect

modem---router----your.lan.systems (assumed 192.168.1.x or 0.x)
+---new router (new channel+ssid+no encryption)
set LAN addresses and DHCP for 192.168.10.x

add firewall rule to ALL your existing LAN systems to deny src address range= thru 10.255

I was at a home today and connected to their private home network on a Surface Pro 4. This showed their network as Connected. However, the internet kept going to a local open BT network instead! I couldn't select this open network anywhere to exclude it. Thinking about it now, I should have disabled/reenabled Wifi first, and then tried a reboot after that. But otherwise, is there any hidden setting to ignore certain networks?

A:Using 'open' access Wifi point instead of connected private wifi.

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

If the home where you were had a BT hub then it most probably was offering both an open connection also known as BT Wifi or BT Fon and also a secured wifi connection which would have an SSID number with a BThub name with some random numbers and letters. It is possible that you connected to the open one and were then automatically directed to a BT broadband page on the internet to pay for use of the BT hotspot service that they provide via customers routers. See this article for more info: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/d...fi-with-fon%3F

how do you change your ip when your connected to a wifi connection??

A:changing your up on wifi

If you are talking about the private LAN IP address between the computer and wireless router, it would depend on how the router is configured to assign IP addresses.

If you are talking about the public Internet IP address, that would depend on how the service provider assigns IP addresses.

We may be able to better help you if you explain what you are trying to accomplish by changing the address.

The Windows password and your WiFi password are different. To change your WiFi password, you need to login to your router. In most cases, you can access your router by entering in your browser. That should bring up your router interface. You can change the password using the router interface.

After doing a lot of searching and looking at several complicated ways to change the password on my win 8 to access my home WiFi, all I had to do was to right click on the SSID and tell the computer to forget it. This cleared out the old password and it asks for the new one. Turns out that what seemed to be very difficult was too easy.

Hi all, I just started an attempt to (officially)  upgrade the WiFi card in my Z50-75. When I bought the unit, it had the Qualcomm Atheros AR956x B/G/N card installed, I will now try to replace it with a Broadcom BCM43162-AC card. I found a seller on Aliexpress who is selling this Broadcom card with the original Lenovo Partnumber 20-200573, which is also indicated in the Z50-series Service manual. Today I ordered the part, I will let you know if the part was genuine and has the proper Lenovo ID in its firmware.... ;-) http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Broadcom-BCM43162-1x1ac-BT4-0-M-2-Combo-card-for-lenovo-E455-FRU-04X6... For sure it will take some time for shipping to Spain, when it arrives I will keep you posted. Un saludo from Spain, Satbeginner

And you should see the option to change the name. I don't have access to a linksys router right now, so I can't give you step by step instructions, sorry.

I work in IT at a school and on numerous occasions, we are having students changing the wifi network on some of our windows 7 machines. I would like to remove the network icon from the taskbar or block access completely to changing network settings.
Due to the way our AD servers are centralized across multiple schools, I am not allowed to apply policies to devices under the domain. (all our windows machines are AD bound)
So far I have used lpedit.msc to lock students from shutting down or restarting computers (this also happens quite often) but I am unsure how to block changing networks.
Is this possible using lpedit.msc or secpol.msc? Keep in mind I cannot use AD Policies.

Thank you.

You need to phone your ISP in order to change the external ip. That ip is assigned by their DHCP server.

my friend brought his computer to me to help him out with. it's running really slow, the internal wireless cannot pick up internet, i can't install malwarebites either in safe mode or not. Spybot installed but would not open. Task manager is locked. He had an expired version of norton. I couldn't uninstall norton so i did a manual uninstall(used to work for Mcafee) and then tried to get Mcafee's scan in dos to work, which i couldn't even extract the sdat until i did it in safe mode with cmd. I was finally able to get that to run, but also know that it is not specifically designed for malware. The computer is getting slower by the minute. System restore was deleted. So, now the scan in dos will finish in a few hours, i'm hoping that it'll get me to a point that i can install a spyware scanner. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Combofix wouldn't do the Recovery console install either. He has winxp sp3. I haven't tried to run combo fix straight up yet. Thanks

I am an owner of the Lenovo y510p laptop. It is notorious for having a internet connectivity problems with its intel n 2230 wireless card. In my case the internet connection would drop every minute at its worst and every 6 hours at its best. I have looked for solutions to this issue and as possible result I am in the current predicament. Here are the most likely culprits:

1) I have installed Wireless_17.0.5_De164 from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=23994
2) I have uninstalled Intel Management Engine Interface from the Device Manager as suggested in this forum https://communities.intel.com/thread...t=225&tstart=0

At this point I have received BSOD, driver_corrupted_expool. I rebooted the computer and it was working fine and and then when I tried further changing options in my wifi card I would get BSOD, but then the system would not boot without getting BSOD. I panicked, and have re-installed windows while keeping all the files. Following the re-installation of windows the BSOD problem still occurs and is consistently occurring when I try changing Advanced settings of my wifi card from the Device Manager window. Furthermore, I have got BSOD on other occasions 1) Freshly after rebooting when I opened Firefox. 2) While making a call on skype. I have received several errors including bad_pool_header.

Hope that helps, I have attached my diagnostics.

Thanks so much in advance,

Hi Sabrefresco ^_^,

Unfortunately, the ZIP File uploaded by you does not contain any Dump files for us to analyse

You would have to upload them manually. The Dump files are located in the path "C:\Windows\Minidumps\". Make sure you ZIP up all the dump files in the folder and then upload the ZIP File in your next post as an attachment.
You might need to copy the dump files to some other folder before you could ZIP them up due to permission issues.

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

I had problems with the old wifi card on my x230 so I decided to change it. The new model is a Intel Centrino N 6205, white-listed in the BIOS and compatible with the system. I did follow all the steps as described in the hardware maintenance manual, reassembled the whole thing and when I tried to start it again, nothing happened. The power light briefly flashes but that's it. I tried reinstalling the old card (no effect), pressing the power button for 30 seconds and unplugging the CMOS battery (no effect). What is wrong here?

I am having one hell of a time getting my new camera's (Panasonic FZ1000) wifi to recognize my computer. During the setup I can get as far as entering the computer's name, username and PW, but keep getting rejected with "wrong username or pw." I definitely know that the PW I use is the correct login PW for my PC, however I'm thinking that the problem may lay with either the username or computer's name. Before I go mucking around changing names, I'd like to know if I do make changes will this effect my wifi hookups. The computer in question is my desktop (main computer), I have a portable PC and TV/Bluray player associated with the modem/bridge...obviously I don't know much about wifi hookups so I can't better explain the hookups. BTW, it appears that I have two different usernames. One is the name that appears in the upper right hand corner when seleting the start icon and the other comes from this:
2. In the Command Prompt, type “set username” and press Enter
3. Your computer login name will be displayed after the "username=" tag.
And if I have to use the latter one (just above), then it presents an entry problem within the camera. This name is two words and the camera's entry keyboard doesn't allow for spaces, so I'd have to change the name to a single word.

EDIT: Actually, I have the feeling that I have confused computer name with username. Hopefully, this will be straightened with an answering reply

A:Will changing username/computer name effect wifi functioning?

Right click Computer (Desktop or Start Menu) and select Properties. Computer name is listed there.
Also in cmd write: echo %username% (this will give username)

Changing the computer name might require to redo network shares and the like, an annoyance at most.
Changing the username now won't change the login name, only the displayed name will change. So you are at a loss there.

However, you can create a new user account with the appropriate naming scheme and give due permissions to do the job. And create a shortcut to the folder from your main account.

I don't know what kind of access is required by the camera, is it only for copying the content?

I added a new wifi repeater to my LAN.
When i connect through it (better signal strength) to my modem i still have the internet.
But none of my mapped drives work and i can't see any Homegroup PC's on my lan.
As soon as i switch back to my regular wifi adapter they are all available again.

Is my wifi adpater linked to my Homegroup and mapped shares ?
How can i get my new adapter to map my network drives and Homegroup ?

Changing folder icons to show open or closed and changing default folder icons like "Favorites".

Here we go again.

I have recentely learned how to change a folder icon manually in Windows Explorer, and now would like to be able to manually change the folder so it shows the folder open and shows the folder closed.

I would also like to know how to change default folder like "Favorites" and "Control Panel"

I would like to change my IP address between static and dynamic depending on which WIFI network I'm connected to. I.e. at home I would like a consistent IP address (static) for network file sharing but my University requires dynamic assignment to connect. Is it possible to (automatically) change between dynamic and static depending on the network?

I know how to do this manually, but I was hoping there was a more automated method. Even if there was some sort of batch file I could run when I changed networks?

Thanks in advance

A:Changing to static or dynamic IP depending on connected WIFI network

At your house you could setup a dhcp reservation on your router for your laptop.

As advised by many sources, I am trying to change wifi encryption from WEP to WPA2 to help prevent 'piggy-backing' by others (which I believe has occurred). I have configured my router and it now shows WPA2 but on my laptop it appears (somewhat surprisingly!) that Win7 only supports WEP (the only option, apart from 'open', shown in the relevant drop-down menu).

I have checked and the 'Network Adapter' is the latest available.

Please tell me (not very computer-literate!) what I should do.

Thanking you in anticipation of a an early and positive response,

i think that's what you mean? let's see Control Panel > Network And Internet > Manage Wireless Network ,and see for your wifi and right click > properties > see the Security Tab at wireless network properties Dialog, and you can change Encryption type, security type, and password.
sorry if it false

I currently have a Qualcom Wireless AC Card in my Yoga 920. When I change wifi networks, I don't always get the internet going right away (we have 2 networks at home and several different networks in the office). I would need to right click on the wifi icon in the task bar and click on troubleshoot, then wait for it to fix itself. This happens probably 90% of the time when I change networks (ie Home network, then when at the office, I connect to the Work network and have to perform the troubleshoot to get the internet going then vice versa when back home. Or even changing between our 2 different Home networks - as in from different ISPs and not just changing between 2.4 and 5ghz connection). Also, is there something wrong with Chrome for the 920? When I change networks, and get the internet going (as in the wifi icon property says that there is internet and the yellow triangle exclamation is not present anymore), google chrome does not automatically connect to the internet and load pages. Edge, on the other hand, does not have issues upon gaining internet connection after the troubleshoot. For reference, I have a custom built desktop. I have an Intel AC 8265 in it, and it does not have this issue when switching between our home networks and chrome does not any issue as well. So yeah, I have two issues. Any ideas?

I have a desktop PC running Win XP SP2 and a notebook on Win Vista Home which I have networked through a Trendnet wireless router. The desktop has Zonealarm firewall installed. I went into Zonealarm and entered the IP address for my notebook into the trusted zone and for a while evertyhing works fine. Every once in a while, though, connectivity is lost and it always traces back to the wireless IP address for my notebook being different by one digit. For example, the IP in the firewall had been set to and so was my notebook and has been working fine. Or at least it was. This morning, the notebook IP had changed to which of course didn't match what the firewall was looking for so no connectivity. As soon as I changed the firewall setting, voila, connectivity.

Why does the IP address for my notebook keep randomly changing for no apparent reason? The range of IPs I've seen assigned to my notebook is always through
