Q: Why is OneDrive target folder called "OneDrive - leverage in

Hello all,

Just started to try to use the OneDrive facility provided under my Office 2016 Pro Plus licence on Windows 10 Pro.

I've placed some files onto my O365 OneDrive storage online.

Next I've indicated within the web interface that I want to run the app on windows to sync my files to PC.

OneDrive starts on the PC and prompts me to specify the folder to write to.

However, below the folder I specify, it creates a folder called "OneDrive - leverage innovative users". I've tried a few times to unlink and re-do but it does not offer me a way to change this target folder name.

Anybody know why this is happening and how to change it? I would like to specify the target folder created as say c:\users\username\documents\OD (to keep it short as poss).

Hope you can assist.

Cheers!

Julian

Preferred Solution: Why is OneDrive target folder called "OneDrive - leverage in

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi!
When opting OUT of OneDrive backup, I must have made a mistake. Now in Windows Explorer the "My Documents" folder has completely vanished, and the "OneDrive" folder has taken its place. I did not lose any files and all programs find the
"My Documents" folder just fine, but it is called "OneDrive", even though I have disabled the automatic backup functions of "OneDrive".
How can I change the name back?
Thanks in advance. Greetings, Robert

Files can't be uploaded because the path of this file or folder is too long. Move the item to a different location or shorten its name.
I first tried to shorten A LOT but still got the same error message.  Then I moved it to a different folder, but I still get the same msg about the same file name!  How do I "restart" OneDrive uploading when I can't get rid of this message?

I had both personal and business onedrive accounts on my computer. I no longer need the business account so I unlinked the pc and signed out. I can't get rid of the location in file explorer and I get a constant nag to log in to business onedrive. I no longer have access to the business account.

I have tried everything I could find online but it normally "fixes" the personal too so I have to reverse it. As you can see in the attached image the account in yellow is the one I wish to remove. It doesn't even sync anything at the moment.

Dumb question - what is the purpose of the OneDrive Folder under C:\User\Myname\OneDrive? I know I can save files directly to OneDrive (in the cloud) or I can move/copy stuff to the OneDrive in the cloud. OneDrive then Syncs the cloud stuff to the User OneDrive folder. What's the point? Just a backup or does W8.1 use the Synced information on the local machine (C:\User\Myname\OneDrive) to speed up processing and then Sync it back to the Cloud? I think I like it but just want to understand what is going on. Is there a "white" paper or something that explains in a little more detail I would appreciate the link. Also, does it then make sense to include the OneDrive folder in the Library so that it gets backed up using W8.1's File History function?

A:OneDrive folder on PC?

The OneDrive folder in Users is the 'Home' folder or the 'mirror' to the Cloud.
There should be a link in your navigation pane, that way you can drag and drop files right on it.

A:What is the OneDrive folder?

Hello Ashley,

OneDrive is a cloud-based storage service where you can view, browse, upload, and share the files you saved online to OneDrive.com. When you save files to OneDrive, the files are automatically available to access or share from any device, even if something happens to your PC.

We have several tutorials for OneDrive, but here are a few below to help learn more about it. Please give them a look through, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I'm using one single OneDrive account on my PC. that PC is used by my wife and I (each of us a separate on-admin user) and have a separate Admin account.

i want all 3 "users" have the same OneDrive account (this is from an Office 365 subscription and will be my off-site backup up to 1 TB). I have signed myself, and Admin up with the same OneDrive account and chose one single folder on my HDD (by selecting the HDD, OneDrive creates a folder called "OneDrive"). so far so good and Admin and i (regualr user) can use that folder by clicking on the cloudy blue OneDrive symbol.

Now my plan is to set up my wife's account with he same OneDrive. All fine until I chose a folder. then OneDrive tells me it can't create a folder. I tried locations on the same HDD, same message. i can use different HDD... but obviously i want to use the very some physical OneDrive location.

There is a possibility my wife's account doesn't' have access to all folders or the complete drive, but not sure how to check. I myself work as Admin or myself with the computer.

attached a shot of the error message and my drives. All attempts to have OneDrive use HDD "F" failed. I assume it is some rights issue. I temporarily changed my wife's account to an admin account to no avail. I googled for that error, but didn't find anything.

(not sure it helps, but my drives work as follows: C=SSD with OS/software, F= HDD data storage. E=separate HDD for backing up most of &quo... Read more

What happens if I delete the files in my Tablet 8.1 OneDrive Folder?  Do the corresponding files in my online OneDrive get deleted too?  I very much do not want this to happen.  The files arrived in the folder after they were uploaded to OneDrive. (synced presumably?).  I set them all so they are not available offline which I understand (just about) means they are Smart Files which do not occupy storage space on my small HDD.  But if they were synced in one direction (downloaded) is what I do with them synced in the the other direction (uploaded)?

I think it will be clear that this is something I am new too and know (too) little about!

Also, are Smart Files unique to Microsoft / Windows, or will I find this behaviour with other Cloud services?

I would be grateful for some enlightenment on this.

If you delete the files in the OneDrive folder they are deleted online as well. Any files that are deleted from OneDrive should be sent to the recycle bin.

There should be a small cloud icon in the Taskbar system tray which is OneDrive. If it is not visible you can try the following:

Go to Settings -> System and Notifications and Actions and click Select which icons appear on the Taskbar:
Then scroll down to turn on the OneDrive icon so that it is always visible.

If I now tap on Start, Files-OneDrive, a window opens showing my Files from my old version of OneDrive. However, I often have to tap on a box on the top left corner and then on the OneDrive icon that appears. I find it hard to explain what I mean (multiple sclerosis problems) but I have the impression that using OneDrive is not as smooth or simple as it was a few days ago. Any ideas?

Hi everybody,

Hopefully someone can help with this annoying issue. At some point shortly after installation I changed the Location of my Documents folder, so it may reside within the OneDrive user folder.

Shortly thereafter I released this was not what I wanted, given that many applications, by default, spout numerous files into my Documents' location. I redirected the Documents folder once again, seemingly successfully, to its original location. Since then a second, duplicated Documents consistently reappears (even after deletion from both the PC and the OneDrive website).

On checking the properties of this Documents doppelganger I can observe that its location is configured still to the OneDrive folder.

I am hoping there exists some register wizardry that might solve this issue.

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Pete

A:Documents Folder Stuck in OneDrive

How did you change the location of the documents? If you're absolutely sure you cannot find it under This PC tab in Windows Explorer, then go to OneDrive and right click on the documents folder in there (make sure this is not the OneDrive documents folder, which looks very similar). Select properties in the menu that appears. Go to the Location tab in Properties. In the text box that appears, enter in C:\Users\Your-Username\Documents . This should put your documents folder back in its normal location. This definitely should work, as I did it to my own computer just to check.

What my user folders looked like at first:

Notice how the OneDrive and Podcasts folders stick out due to the Windows 7/8-style folders icons.

So I found an alternative OneDrive icon in the image shell32.dll in C:\Windows, extracted it and used that one (Windows 10-style icon).

Then I created my own podcasts icon. I used the Windows 10-style folder paired with the Zune podcast icon to create my own custom icon. Here's the end result:

All of the folders match, now!!

If you're interested in getting your hands on these folder .ico files yourself, they're attached below!

Instructions:

1) Download the ico files to a permanent location
2) Start with C:\ then navigate to the parent folder of the folder you want to customize (like C:\Users\[USERFOLDER])

1. Right click the folder, select Properties
2. Select the Customize tab
3. Click "Change icon..."
4. Then click "Browse..." and find where you saved your .ico file, and select it
5. Click OK.
Cheers,

I use DropBox and OneDrive a bit at work. With "selective folder" sync in DropBox, I have no issues and things work as I like.

In OneDrive, I know that there is an option for "online-only". However, for a few of my personal things, I don't want these things to appear "AT ALL". For example, i have a password database stored in OneDrive. Previously (before Windows 8.1), it was stored in a folder on OneDrive/SkyDrive called CloudOnly.

I noticed today, that my OneDrive folder in File Explorer shows my "CloudOnly" folder. The files in that folder show as "Online-only" under Availability. But I don't want anybody to be able to even see that folder from my PC, regardless of whether I'm online or not. I don't think I have an option for this anymore. I want it so that I log into the OneDrive website to access that file if necessary, but do not want to see the "Smart links" within the OneDrive app or the File Explorer structure. My computer is always "online" at home or the office, so anybody who gains access to my PC has access to these files. I don't want this for everything.

Is there anyway to accomplish this, or do I need to move this stuff out of OneDrive and over to Dropbox?

I have searched all over the web and cannot seem to find a solution to the problem I recently started having with my computer. (Although I have found plenty of people claiming to have the same problem.) This is on a computer running XP Pro SP3 with an AMD Anthlon II X2 CPU processor: Normally, when I download something - file, pic, etc. - I can left click on the download dropdown box (revealing the downloaded items list), right click on an item and choose "Open containing folder" and the folder I download the item to would open. (I choose where downloads go, not the My Docs Download folder.) Now, nothing happens when I choose "Open containing folder". At first I thought it was a Firefox problem since that is the browser I usually use so I did a ?refresh? but that did not correct the problem. Then I realized it was also happening with Chrome, so that ruled out a browser setting causing the problem. (I have IE but never use it.) If what I have downloaded uses a program, double clicking on the file in the dropbox still opens the correct program normally.

More investigating revealed that right clicking on a program icon on my desktop and choosing "Find target" was also not working ? nothing happens. (Normally the program folder would open with the .exe file highlighted.) I have to think both problems are caused by the same malfunction. Windows Explorer is functioning normally and I can locate the folders and files manually.

I have a folder which contains ALL my passwords for accounts here there and everywhere, be they bank accounts, online casino/betting accounts, or just email accounts.

I've never had a problem with the program, but when i tried opening the folder today, i was met by a message reading:

"Location is not available
C:\Users\Zazkad\Desktop\Important Documents is not accessible.
Access is denied."

I've tried my best to find other ways at getting around this problem, but regardless of what i try to do, it won't let me access the files within that folder in any way. And i REALLY need access to that folder soon, it's really important to me!

I would greatly appreciate some help on this matter

Hope everyone had a merry christmas and a happy new year.

Zaz

So, When I go into my downloads folder on my computer, there is a folder called N_files that is listed as "modified earlier this month". It contains a whole bunch of files that look like this: imgur: the simple image sharer, as well as a little facebook icon picture, and then what looks like small, 1 KB pictures of what appears to be all my facebook friends as well as many people I don't recognize. The thing is the files are so small I can't zoom in without seeing a blob of pixels. I'm not going to share The whole folder for obvious privacy reasons, but I will share this screenshot: imgur: the simple image sharer

So, what are you asking?

Hi Everyone,

So I just received a computer I purchased from CyberPower Inc. and set everything up; so far things have gone smoothly except for the following:

When I first booted the computer up, and every subsequent startup, I receive the following error message on the homescreen, "There is a file or folder on your computer called 'C:\Program' which could cause certain applications to not function correctly. Renaming it to 'C:\Program1' would solve this problem. Would you like to rename it now?" If I opt to rename it, then the next startup the message appears again but this time wants me to rename it to "C:\Program2". It does seemt to be causing some problems for the way internet explorer functions.

I haven't finished setting up the computer/restoring my backups or anything because I don't want to go through that entire process if I am going to need to find the windows installation CD that came with the computer, reinstall the OS, etc.

Any ideas here?

Thank You very much in advance, I really appreciate your time!

Today I started my computer and when I reached the desktop this little message popped up: File name warning. There is a file or folder on your computer called "C:\Program" which could cause certain applications to not function correctly. Renaming it to "C:\Program1" would solve this problem. Would you like to rename it now?

I have never seen this before and I do not have a folder called "C:\Program". Anyone have any ideas what this could be? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am using Windows XP. When I download certain things to the desktop, they don't actually save to the Desktop, but rather to a folder called "Recent." When I search for these files using the Windows search tool, I can find them, but I don't know how to (a) open the "Recent" folder or (b) re-route it so they actually download to the desktop. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I am running 8.1 in 7 style and most of my documents some of which are personal are being saved automatically to OneDrive.
I would rather save them to an ordinary Documents library because accessing them is now so convoluted and as I said previously I really cannot relate to this OneDrive system.

So my query is how do I retrieve the documents put them in the ordinary Documents library and delete them from OneDrive. I have tried opening them but it is telling me my admin (me) has blocked OneDrive??

A:Getting rid of OneDrive

First, go to Charms bar, PC Settings, then One Drive. Un-flick the switch that says Save Documents to One Drive by Default.

As far as admin, are you logged into your PC with the same account you are with OneDrive? Just go to the web version of OneDrive and make sure you are logged in as you. You should see the same pictures and have full control.

It may be a little convoluted and a pain, but you can always download them from the browser. Just click on the top right corner of all the ones you want. You can then right-click on any one of them and choose download. Then save them to wherever you want on your system.

By the way, you can also get to your local copy of OneDrive through the file browser. It's under your Users/yourname directory on the C drive. If you can access them there, no need to download them. Just move them.

I'm not aware of ever having created a OneDrive account (nor an outlook.com account) but I just received an email saying my OneDrive account would be deleted because it hasn't been used in two years. I am running MS Office 2010 and never use cloud storage. Does this account get created automatically by some software Like MS Office 2010 or other? It's odd because I don't have any log in details for said account. I'm fine with it being deleted but would like to know how it got created in the first place so any input would be appreciated.
