I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It all happens in Poland, but I am curious as to how customers are treated by Lenovo in other countries.  The story in short: An E31-70 laptop bought 5 July 2017, end of June - does not open due to broken hinge. the shop/service where I have bought the laptop contacts the customer support only to get back reply that I must have act with undue force thus the problem. But there are no traces of "undue force" treatment to the exterior, so upon pointing that out the support changes the tune and says that it is a "secondary failure" not under the warrranty because I should have reported immediately after the first signs that something is wrong. Since the first sign was that day, this is BS, again I point it out but unfortunately in their third communication Lenovo ultimately refuses to repair under warranty. Since I had to open the laptop pretty soon having data on hard disk which I had to access (work deadline), I decided to have my service conduct the repairs and contacted the customer rights advisor. According to her instructions I sent a request for reimbursement after having received the invoice. Lenovo refused again. So I am forced to enter judicial proceedings. I have heard that Lenovo does not try to escape responsibility for shoddy products in such blatant way in other countries. If anyone from the Lenovo is reading this sad story, I would be interested to hear their opinion...Z... I am writing this message in order to inform the Lenovo English Community about Lenovo Turkey's unjust and unlawful policies that neglect customer satisfaction and violate Turkish Consumer Rights Law. 3 weeks ago, I bought a brand new Lenovo Yoga 720, with the financial support of my university's scientific research projects office. But, once I opened the original case of my brand new laptop, I realized that there is a tiny crack on the bottom-left end of the LCD beneath the touch screen (see the attached picture). Afterwards, I contacted Lenovo Turkey Customer Service, and sent my laptop to them for free service. After initial inspection, however, they asked me to pay 1.092,92 TRY (approximately $290) for repair service. I told them that they can not ask for money for this service, because it is a defective good and according to national conumer rights law they  (as the producer/exporter of the good) are obliged to replace the defective good or repair it for free.  In response, they unlawfully denied my demands and claimed that the crack is a result of user error. But when I asked them to prove their claim, they couldn't. Because, as you my guess, there is no trace of damage or usage on the laptop that may have caused such crack! Although I sent my complaints to Lenovo Turkey by both e-mail and post, they did not reply. Now, I will use my legal rights before Turkish authorities to claim a replace or free repair serv... Read more

I refer to another similar complain post, I just met a similar problem with lenovo bad screen quality and poor customer service. I bought Thinkpad T580 laptop last year and used in a  normal  environment (always on the desk in my home). One day I found there is a 2x2cm light/white spot on the screen bottom area, which can only be observed when the screen background is in white color. Lenovo told me that it's cased by outside pressure  and they are not covering my screen replacement  under warranty. I own another thinkpad x260 which use in my daily and oversea business travel for over three years and everything is still fine. That's why I purchase T580 for my home use. It is disppointing  that Lenovo can  not  stand behind their product and stand behind their promise to customers (warranty).  Lenovo advertises the Thinkpad T580 as following on their webside: "We test ThinkPads against 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 quality checks to ensure they run in extreme conditions. From the arctic wilderness to desert dust storms, from zero-gravity to spills and drops, you can trust your T Series device to handle whatever life throws your way." I disgree with their statement and  not going to pay ~$295 parts+ ~30 labour total around 325 to fix my screen. Very disapointed with Lenovo quality and customer service, I won't consider Lenovo again if there is another choice.

Had this unit in for a warranty repair in January. At that time the right hinge was causing the case to seperate. It has made it to the beginning of April, and now the left side is starting to seperate. This unit never leaves the house, and has never been dropped, yet the excessive drag opening the unit normally creates seems to be causing issues. Clearly a design flaw.

My laptop hinge just broke, and i am past the warranty. Is there anything that can be done about it since its a factory defect? Or at the very least can i send it in and pay for it to be repaired? If so, how much would that cost? I just recently got my new desktop, but i wanted to keep the laptop for other things.

Hello, I bought lenovo yoga 500 14 ISK on January 2016. After 1,5 years later i aware that there is some problem on the left bottom side (near the hinge) than one week later i saw that screen and back lid seperated from left bottom side and when i look at in i saw that the screw hole is broken from inside and the screw is not tightening the back lid anymore. And my pc never dropped. It is under 2 year warranty and after i sent my pc to Turkey technical service, they said that your actions are completed and when i see the pc right side is broken. First of all i do not want to take back but they said that you can not take pc back so they force me to take my pc. day  by day crack is going bigger and bigger. When i called technical service they said that me (laughing) i forced the pc lid which is 360 degree. and also they said to me opening the lid from only one side causes this problem.  It is not written anywheere taht "dont open lid from left or right side" . Having continuing problems with the Yoga 710-11 that is now out of warranty. Techical support advises that I must seek service from a local vendor/service location and the machine can no longer be returned to a Lenovo Depot Repair Center. I have spoken to a local vendor who said he would be able to have it serviced by Lenovo. Is that my only option for repair service at this time? Seems strange that I can not deal with the Lenovo Depot Repair Center as I have in the past with or with the warranty. Not really the type of service I expected from a former IBM Company.

I bought a Lenovo Flex 5 14" and at first really enjoyed the product, but it quickly had screen flickering issues. Thankfully, it was still in warranty, so I shipped it back and the LCD was replaced. However, the testing must not have been very rigorous at all because after a while, it still has the same flickering issue. The root cause analysis was incomplete, the problem was not completely fixed, and now my device is out of warranty. I tried to contact Lenovo months back, but because my device was out of warranty, I couldn't get through. Now I really need to use this laptop again and it is basically useless without an external monitor. I am very disatisfied with the level of service received.

My X1 Carbon 5 Gen was bought about two weeks. After one week, it has found Lib Switch problem with blank screen. I reported to Sydney Services Centre for warranty repair. They sent the Field Technician onsite to repair the X1 Carbon. Without any diagnostic, the Technician roughly peeled off the Bezel  of the LCD FRU  and then replaced the Glass of the LCD., The Lib Switch problem did not solve, but the LCD FRU (Assembly Panel) is damaged without loosen Bezel. I asked the Technician why he damaged the LCD FRU instead of replacing the whole FRU (thus, my orginial LCD FRU can be recoverable). He admitted that it is very unprofessional, but he just carried out the instruction order from Sydney Services Centre. I can complain to Sydney Service Centre as he cannot do anything to recover the original fitting of the LCD FRU. I call Sydney Service Centre requesting the replacement of the damaged LCD FRU. Their reply is that the Technician suggest just replacement of the Bezel sheet with his manual fitting. I will not accept my new X1 Carbon?s LCD FRU being damaged and remediated with manual fitting. It is very unprofessional that the replacement is not the whole LCD FRU, and damage my original LCD FRU for glass replacement. I am going to lodge the complaint against Sydney Services through ACCC if they refuse to recover my LCD FRU with new LCD FRU.

Bought my laptop one month ago and yesterday it black screened and is just a paperweight now. Lonovos only solution to selling defective computers is to repair them. What I couldn't get them to understand is that I don't want a broken and repaired laptop, that's not what I paid for. I paid for a no defective computer. You cant give me a broken machine that you band-aided for the same price as a new machine. I just want a replacement or my money back. I feel as if I'm getting screwed over big time here, and that's not how a company should do business. Don't sell me a lemon and then offer to fix it. I didn't want a lemon in the first place. I want what I paid for, a fully functional non defective machine. Lenovo refuses and is keeping the money. Lesson learned.

Hi,
I own a Dell Inspiron 5547. I have purchased a Dell notebook for my wife as well and my choice for the company notebook was also Dell. This was because I have trusted the quality and the 3 year warranty.Parts Only warranty 11/4/14 - 11/4/15Carry-in Service/Return to Depot warranty 11/4/14 - 11/4/17
A long time ago, a screw fell out from the notebook and there was no way to put it back, it always came out. Please note that I have never ever tried to do any modifications/repairs on the notebook. As I could not afford to put it into the service for 2 weeks, I've tried to open and close it always with maximum care. Still, it broke eventually and I needed to go to the local Hungarian warranty partner, where I was told that Dell won't cover the issue and I got an offer over USD 150 for repair.
I admit that with turning in the notebook, the damages would have been smaller, but still, the place for the screw would have needed a change and also the plastic and other parts were not as strong as required. I've googled Dell hinge issues and it seems to be a common issue.
In order to keep my trust in Dell, I would like at least a partial guarantee. Else, due to the lack of trust I will need to look for another brand when I will need to replace laptops. This is something I would not like.
Regards,
Aron

Hello,
I bought my Dell Inspiron 5548 in November 2015. My right hinge is making strange noises and finally it broke off. I want to know how could I get this fixed. I haven't misused it or dropped it at any point of time. since it is not even one complete year, im assuming my laptop is covered under the warranty. probably this is not the first complain Dell is receiving in this model since I saw previous posts complaining of the same problem.

Here I'm attaching the photo of the broken hinge as well as the bill that was given to me when i purchased my laptop.
Let me know whether i should post my service tag/express service code here.

A lot of Dell computers like this have this issue and Dell will not fix it for free, even if under warranty. Despite this being a recurring problem and not due to misuse, if you call Dell about the problem, they will try to charge you 160 USD to fix it.

Just another sap who bought the Y50-70 Touch. I'm six months out of warranty, and the left hinge has separated from the lid/locked in place. I can't close the lid for fear of damaging the screen, too, so this isn't much of a laptop any more. Never taken it out of the house, but now it's not an option at all - no way to travel with the thing open all the time.I've flipped through the earlier posts on this. Saw how common it was, and how Lenovo was refusing to cover it under warranty at first. After finally investigating it, they changed their tune... for those under warranty. That implies to me that they know they're at fault for the issue, that they shipped a product to customers later found to be defective.I've been extremely careful with this laptop. It's never left the house and mostly just moves from a side table to my lap <2 feet away. Never dropped or anything. When I first got it, I'd hear this cracking sound sometimes when opening the lid, but I thought it was just from the newness and it'd relax. Would just open it really carefully. With how I use it, the machine made it this long - unfortunately past the warranty ending. It's like being penalized because of my caution. So far, no help from customer support. I've had my case escalated once. The second person I spoke to said it was Lenovo's final decision to not fix my laptop. I tried reasoning a bit, suggesting that it'd be an acceptable solution for them to send me the parts free of charge for me to install myself... Read more

I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!

Can access bios F12 on boot ( if this is correct)
the password section was un registerd ( i feel this is strange as she informs me that the password has been mislaid) as she thought this could be an issue of even getting past the boot screen.

directly after the splash comes up we are straight into ( reboot and select the proper boot device ) .

tried F6 /F8 on boot in an attempt to get to safe mode same RASPBS error message.

Have alterd the boot sequence so that 1st boot is usb Mem Stick with win 8.1 OS on it . can see the the stick in bios but on saving back to RASPBS message.

Im sure i cant be to only person with this issue I am hoping it been aired in this forum , any advice on this issue would be most welcome.

So a few months ago i bought a used lenovo P50. 32 gigs of ram, 6820hq, Quadro M2000M. I'm using it as a daily workstation. I payed quiet a bit for it but it's a good machine and i'm generally happy with it.  Of course, one of the reasons i payed well for it was that it had almost 2 years of top notch international warranty remaining. It came from a German company, has been bought for company use in a big pack of maybe 50 or more pieces.  When i was buying it i checked the international warranty using the machines serial number. The lenovo website said i have more then 500days of warranty remaining. So i bought the machine and have been using it since then. Recently i tought that i was having problems with a malufunctioning USB port. Turned out it was my USB drive, not the port. But since i was thinking about RMAing it, not knowing that the port is actually fine. I went checking how much warranty i have got left. (This was about 3 months after i bought the machine).  So i come to the lenovo warranty check, type my serial number in and a nice suprise is waiting for me there.  Warranty status: expired, 0 days left. Together with the text:  This machine was sold by the manufacturer without warranty. Hello, Earlier this year I had my laptop repaired due to issues with the touchscreen and mouse. My warranty then expired in the middle of this year. Now the hinges/cover that were removed to replace the screen are failing. (I also noticed that the cover clips were significantly damaged during the repair when it popped off) Do I have any options here to get this repaired? This was something they had to touch to do the earlier repair and something I could not touch under normal circumstances. Does anyone have any experiance with this? I can't find a good way to contact the warranty department due to my warrenty being expired.

So my computer won't turn on now thanks to the infamous faulty hinge design which ended up breaking the plastic on the left side and one of the little bolts ended up causing the complete malfunction of the fan.The last message I got was that the computer had to shut down because due to the fact that the fan no longer worked. So now my question is, where can I get this fixed? How much does HP charge? It is out of warranty but still this shouldn't have happened, they should at least repair my computer for low cost. It really is a great computer but how much to get this fixed? Who can fix this fan and get it running again?I tried and can't get all the pieces taken apart at the keyboard. I need to replace the fan and maybe some of the other plastic pieces though I heard HP way overcharges. I would rather fix this excellent computer than have to buy a new one. Also where can someone find used parts for these dv7's?

I would have thought there would be others with such an issue...but I couldn't find any answered question about my issue on the forums. My laptop purchased in dec-2013 has a broken left hinge part. As a result, I cannot open/close the lid without almost fully breaking the hinge. Even with the lid up, its extremely unstable. Needless to say, the laptop is out of commission at the moment. I am considering getting it repaired since it runs decently enough. Its out of warranty though. I tried to check my options at the HP Support portal and answered a few questions including serial and product# and the website stated that the warranty has expired and I need to pay for phone support. So, I know phone support is not going to fix the hinge issue and I am not sure why I am being asked to pay to just check on my options. I need to know the cost of the repair and the turnaround time. And, I opened up the back cover and tried to figure out what is wrong (basically, the mold attached to the base of the laptop that holds the screw connecting the hinge and the base is broken). I want to verify that HP will accept a laptop that was opened by the customer. Any HP support folks here that can answer my questions? Thanks.

I have, under my care, an X260 laptop which has sustained damage to a corner of its casing. It does not appear to have affected the operability of the laptop. I submitted a ticket to get it repaired under the warranty but it comes back as a Depot repair. I have a hard time separating the employee from the laptop, especially for an indeterminate amount of time. Is not the bottom case just a shell? Can I contact someone to just get the part sent? I feel confident I can do a bottom case myself.

A:Take an in Warranty repair and do it myself

Does the machine have accidental damage coverage?  Normally, warranty won't cover physical case damage without accidental damage warranty..  In case of physical damage, depot repair is best in case something inside got damaged at the same time.  Also, the depot can move or replace stickers.

Howdy, Is it possible to get HP to fix a broken laptop (spillage has broken the keyboard) out of the laptops warranty? Failing that, are there any repair shops licensed/recommended by HP in the UK? Thanks

A:Out of Warranty Repair (UK)

Is the damage confined to the keyboard? That is not expensive or difficult and just about any computer shop should be able to handle it and it is even possible in many cases to do it yourself.  Please let us know if you want to try replacement. If not the best way to go about it is to procure the part and take it and the laptop to a local shop.  Where are you located in the UK? See pages 74-77 of the Manual here: Service Manual https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuovxquGRFk The video is also useful. Removal of the keyboard part stops at about 7:50.  Post back with any more questions.

Sigh .. So I made a real mess of things on this one. In an attempt to fix another issue, I accidentally (tired, distracted) changed the Environmental Variable "ComSpec". I soon noticed my mistake, as the system refused to boot. I worked nonstop for over eight hours to try and fix this issue to no avail. My dads laptop wouldn't recognize USB sticks (another extremely annoying issue I ain't got my head around) so after many hours wasted on that, I was able to borrow another laptop.

So what actually happens?

1) It will boot and ask if I want to start normally or go into startup repair. If I start normally, it will get to just after the loading screen, then it will restart.

2) If I do system repair, it will not fix the issue. It will NOT give me the option to use command prompt or anything else aside from startup repair, which is useless. The checks complete just fine, system repair states that a recent change in the system is the likely cause ... like I didn't already know that.

3) After getting into that dead end, I thought ok .. I will create a bootable USB stick. I created one on the borrowed laptop, tested the USB (formatted NTFS), and it worked in the laptop, but was completely ignored by my desktop (USB-HDD is the only bootable device in BIOs, and yes, all USB controllers are on, my keyboard and mouse work fine. I tried USB-ZIP too just to be sure). I assumed it wasn't noticing the USB stick because I did formatted in NTFS. I remade the boot disk in ... Read more

Hey everyone.

I have a huge problem... I have 3 corrupt installations of the same OS (W7 U. 64 bit) in the same hard drive. I can't install any OS(es), and my original (working installation) no longer works. These corrupt installations are corrupt because windows installed incorrectly twice... they left old windows instead of creating a windows.old file.

When I try to start up any of these three installations, I get the same error:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

This also happens upon completion of reinstalling windows.

I have tried to wipe the drive:
most programs I see need windows to operate...
I've tried a few programs that can be booted, DBAN boots, but I get the same error every time: That DBAN has encountered a non-fatal error and that the error is usually caused by damaged disks.

So, is there any way that:
I can fix windows to install one of the hard drive wiping softwares?
Get DBAN working?
I can get a software that actually runs by booting with it and that correctly wipes my hard drive?

Thanks,

- Pilot

You can format during boot, just delete the partitions. If you would like a more thorough clean, try this

Hey guys,

Yesterday my computer was working just fine, I shut it down to go to a friend's house and when I came back it had the little ":( There's somethign wrong with your computer" with the error code "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION" and now it boots straight in to start up repair.

I tried a few things to troubleshoot this morning; ran chkdsk /f/r - nothing found, but it could not write errors to the log file with a status 50, tried to system restore but it would not go, saying the drive was corrupt, though the disk health check on Hiren's Boot CD completely without errors. Startup repair said it could not be completed and created a logfile I can't read (Dunno if there's a command to read text files in cmd, but apparently help is no longer a recognized command.

Lastly, I tried the windows built-in reset, which got to 1% and said that it can't reset this PC, no changes were made.

Help

EDIT:  Now I'm even more confused, I figured out how to read the srttrail log (the startup repair logfile) and it comes up with "Boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully."

What.

A:Windows 10 refuses to boot - Can make no changes in startup repair

Start with these free, bootable diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html

This sounds a bit like a hard drive issue to me.
chkdsk only checks the file system on the hard drive - not the physical hard drive itself.
SMART is just a predictive technology - it's not meant to be a diagnostic tool.  I have seen many dead hard drives that have passed SMART (we had 2 or 3 at work today - the W-D DLG tool displays SMART as you start the diagnostics).

But, as the chkdsk couldn't write to the drive - that's significant.
As is the failure at 1% of the reset

Don't feel bad about reading the srtrail log - I still get confused by them :0)

I dont want to do that. Please help!!!  Thanks in advance for any help! Daniel

I just get a brief glimpse of the Windows 7 logo and it reboots. I've tried the repair option but that fails, with either the internal HD or by using the installation DVD.

I cannot boot into safe mode. The only drive I see with command prompt is x:\

I removed the battery and the HD and sent the laptop in for a repair to one of the hinges on the display. When I got it back, I put it all back together and voila... it won't boot. It won't repair. It won't boot to safe mode. I can't run chkdsk.

The only option I see right now is to remove the HD and see if I can pull off the data using an external drive enclosure. Then reinstall Windows7 and all the programs and data.

Any other options I have overlooked?

Clearing the CMOS may be worth a shot. Remove the battery and power adapter then press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
