I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This morning my Pavilion gave me a battery warning. It had worked just fine so far. Yesterday a fully charged battery would have about 5 hours of working time, as of this morning 25 minutes. My initial thought was that some Windows update may have caused the computer to 'read' the battery incorrectly. On looking further I ran into the Battery Savety Recall and Replacement Program.  So now my guess is that HP tried to notify users of the battery problem, I missed that somehow and through some update replacement is forced on the users using some built-in battery diagnosis. So in order to see if my laptop is one of the infected models, I had to remove the battery (the automatic checking tool gave an error). No easy ordeal! Finally being able to check the status manually I get a notification that: "Your notebook battery is not affected and a replacement is not necessary. You may continue to use your notebook battery. Thank you for your cooperation." So how then did my battery die overnight? The computer is 2,5 years old and not intensivelly used. Please advise.

A:Pavilion 11 battery issue

"So how then did my battery die overnight? The computer is 2,5 years old and not intensivelly used." It did not die overnight.   2.5 years is a reasonably long service life for a component which only has a one year warranty. Purchase a guaranteeed compatible battery from an online vendor who provides a one year warranty.  You do not need to purchase a battery directly from HP.  Perform a Google or other search engine query with your notebook's complete product name and replacement beattery as the keywords to find a replacement battery at a good price.

I bought this laptop, new, yesterday.  It charged all night.  The specs say it has a battery life of 11.75 hours.  That is the sole reason I decided to go with this laptop over one with better RAM.  I just turned it on 30 minutes ago and it is 100% charged yet it only has a battery life of 5hr, 26 min.  After 30 minutes of light use, it is 85% charged with 4hr, 3min left.  Is there anything I can do to fix this issue short of returning the computer?

I have a hp Pavilion Dv7-2177Cl laptop here with a interesting battery issue. It is run on AC 99% of the time. Never had any problems with it. Last night when I shut it down I noticed the battery light was blinking. I thought that was odd. I know it wasn't before as that would have drove me nuts. When I powered it back up I got a warning that the battery was at a critical level (from the BIOS), and I had to hit enter to continue. It boots fine, but the battery says 0% and won't charge.

I had a spare battery and slipped that in, and everything is fine. So I know it is the battery. Anyone ever have a battery be fine one minute and totally dead the next? Especially for one not used much and kept charged? Seemed a bit odd to me.

I have heard about putting the battery in a freezer for a few days, then letting it thaw and see if it charges then. Anyone ever try this? It is Li-on battery pack.

Hi everyone, So, yesterday I started up my computer and the fan was running unusually high and then shut off immediately.  I plugged my charger into my notebook and then started it up only to find the Primary (internal) Battery (601) message popping up.  This laptop is just over a year old so I searched up on HP forums and found the fix where you uninstall the 'ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery', turn off your laptop, unplug the charger and charge it into a wall outlet, and then starting up your computer.  I repeated that process twice and then my battery worked again.  I ran a diagnostic test and it showed that my battery was still at 90% capacity.  All seemed well so I went to sleep, only to find that the same problem occured when I woke up and tried to turn on my computer - wouldn't start, alert message, uninstalled the driver twice and then it finally worked, and my battery is holding its charge now.   Does anyone have any suggestions or input that might be helpful? Thank you.

Hello, I am having the following issue: - Computer fell off bed (2ft high). - Press power button (without the power cord plugged in), computer does not turn on and the LED light next to the battery port flashes white 3 times- Press power button (with the power cord plugged in), computer turns on. For 30 seconds to 1 minutes, the battery icon says 0% charged. After approximately 1 minute, the battery icon says "Fully charged 100%". When I unplug the power cord, my laptop scrren goes black and shuts down (but it takes a few seconds before you hear the fan and internal parts stop) this may be unnecessary information:- I replaced the battery a couple of months ago- my laptop will turn on if I remove the battery, plug in the laptop and power it on  I've tried a hard reset already but nothing changed - issue persists.  Any help would be appreciated.- Logan

Hi guys. I have a T470 and after the latest Windows update I encountered a battery naming issue. Before the update batteries had proper order and were named accordingly: battery 1, battery 2, no surprises here. But after the update I noticed the order has changed to battery 0, battery 1 (attached pic below) Yeah yeah, I understand arrays start at zero but what is that? I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

The last few days I've been getting a message on start up on my laptop that my internal battery was weak.   The diagnostics I ran confirmed this.  I saw the HP replacement battery wasn't reviewed very well on the HP web site so I purchased a Duracell replacement battery.  It appears to be working well, except now I no longer have a battery icon in my lower tray so I have no idea what my battery level is.  When it gets low, it gives me no warning and just shuts the laptop down.  It also doesn't indicate when I am using my power cord.  Is there anything I can do to change this?

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

Wrote a month or so ago about a faulty U330 battery.  I replaced it with a new one and am having the same issue--rapid discharge. For example, the battery power goes from 100% to 95% within 3 mintues, from 95% to 73% within 15 minutes.  With the original battery, I noticed that its power could stay at 0% for quite some time before the computer shut down. The battery lasts a decently long time, but the real issue is that I pretty much have spontaneous shutdowns since I can't predict the actual power remaining. Could this be a Win 7 issue and not an issue with the battery's actual capacity? Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

A:U330 Battery Issue--New Battery, Still Discharging Fast

Hey Gurbly,

Curious to know is the replacement battery that you bought is it from Lenovo or is it a generic brand battery ?

If this is a Lenovo battery, might I suggest the following link :

http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/Welcome-FAQs-Knowledge-Base/How-can-I-increase-battery-life/ta-p/244800

If the above does not help, could you try the following.

1. Replacement Battery to be drained.
2. Replacement Battery to be fully charge. During this time do not turn on the U330
3. Once fully charge, turn on computer and login to your operating system. Do not launch any application and if possible disable any apps that auto starts.
4. Change the power management to "do not turn off hard drive and monitor" when battery is used
5. Adjust screen brightness to 50%
6. Leave the laptop idle,
7. Check within 3-5 minutes if the battery level drops from 100% to 95%
8. record your finding and reply back.

Thanks for reading this. i have never posted anything in my life but i am stumped and need some help!
I got a dell inspiron 2200 and one day i was running it while it was pluged in and i unpluged it and the laptop just "Bloop" shut off......i tried turning it back on but nothing. just as if i had no battery in it at all. when i pluged it back in it fired up like normal i checked the battery meter and it said 97% full then charged up to 100% full but still it wont run off the battery. as soon as i unplug it it shuts right off.

Someone told me to run the battery calibration but my bios doesnt have an option for it. at least i cant find it. i know it has it somewere because when i first bought this laptop the screen was broke and when i bought a new one for it and booted it up it said i had to run the battery calibration befor it could start "not sure why" but i did...watched it drain and charge. so i know it's in here somewere. do you think this would even help?

Also i think i updated the bios so it might have had an older bios witch might have had the battery calibration and the new one i put on doesnt. It has verison A07 now. i tried "downgrading" to A05 and A06 but it doesnt let me, Says i have a newer verison and cannot install an older verison.

Stinks. this problem kinda takes the "Mobil" feature out of a laptop. Any help would be Awesome!

A:Laptop battery issue ??battery calibration??

i'm afraid the battery calibration program is only used to initialize new Li-Ion batteries which need to be prepped with an initial charge-discharge cycle.

It sounds to me like you have a battery composed of 32 (probably AA sized) cells.
One of those cells has died and hence you see only 97% charge. Unfortunately losing a single cell prevents current from entering or leaving the battery so your battery will not discharge correctly therefore shutoff without discharge.

I think you need a new battery. Although it may be possible to replace the single bad cell, other cells may be degraded also - if one cell failed, why not others? unit could have been exposed to heat etc.

Although I was an engineer for Gould, I am not a battery expert!

good luck!
Simon

So I had ordered my HP Pavilion a few weeks back and recently opened it on Christmas. Everything works great except for the battery life. On the page detailing the specifics of the model, ( http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-pavilion---15z-laptop-%28touch-option-available%29-v0n65av-... ), it promised up to a 6 hour and 45 minute battery life. However, I have not gotten anything above 2 hours and 30 minutes. Is there something I need to increase the battery life e.g. let it die completely? Or is this just a bad model? I would really appreciate an answer as I have only been using it for about 5 days and I need a long battery life for when I am not working at home.

Here is a link to test and calibrate the battery. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. Here is a link to troubleshoot the AC power adapter. Please let me know the outcome of these test. I hope this helps. Thanks.

There obviously is a recall on these batteries.... I just looked to see what the serial number on the battery is, and I can't find it.  I can't find out how to remove it or anything on how to get to the battery, to see if this is one of the recalled batteries.  If this is, and I have to get a new one, will this work, plugged in without the battery?  At this point, I only use this plugged in on my desk.  I will use it as a portable labtop in about a year, when i travel.  Right now, I don't need to use it with a battery.

Just bought the notebook a few weeks ago - my main reason for buying was the 6.5 hour battery life. Got it home, charged - guess what? 1.5 hour battery life. I took it back to the store assuming it was defective. Got the new one home, charged up - same exact thing. HP tech support online is completely laughable (and yes, I hope you techs are reading this) - all the guy did was cut and paste from the website that he sent me to, which told me absolutely nothing. I'm not a new computer user - I do understand that battery life depends on screen brightness, what you are using the computer for, blah blah blah blah blah. I have it on power saving so low I can not read the screen as easily as I would like to, and I was doing absolutely nothing that would drag the power down, such as watching a DVD, gaming, etc. Basically just email, internet, MS Office - standard things.1.5 hour battery life - they must be kidding. My old Dell, 17" with not nearly the power this one has, got an easy 4 hour battery life - watching DVD's or whatever. Is anyone else having this issue?

HI,
i have a pavilion ze4200 laptop, the batter for it died fully, so bought a new battery. The battery happens to be compatible and it is for the same model. But the computer seems to use the power from the new battery but does not recharge it. now the battery is at 0%, and im running on ac power. i tried putting in the old battery, it charges but it then dies out in 20 sec. so the power cord works fine. Any thoughts???
thanks

Hi team, My laptop has recently run out of battery and the charger is not working. I have read various forum posts about HPs not charging and the remedies for it. But the problem I am facing is that the laptop has run out of battery so I can't charge it up to solve the charging problem.  The model is HP Pavilion G6-1241ea. I have recently updated to Windows 10 but not sure if 32 or 64-bit and can't check on the control panel. Anyone have any magical ideas?? Thanks, Fabian

I put in my new battery; it has had more than 48 hours to charge, but when I turn on the notebook, it trys to start, and then just shuts down before it boots up at all.  Yes I used the same kind of battery, same brand, etc.

Bought a brand new battery for my computer and installed it. Recently it has not been turning on all the time. Plug it in and it will charge, but there is a white x over the battery on the main screen, even though it says, "Battery fully charged". Tried to run the battery diagnostic but then it had to restart several times. Charging light blinks white too.

Hi,

I came by a 'broken' Pavilion ze4500...fixed the monitor, but the battery is just not charging! Maybe it's shagged? Otherwise it's perfect! I heard something about putting the battery in the fridge/freezer...or is that an urban myth. Anyone know how to resurrect a battery or are these laptops prone to battery failure? Computer realises the battery's there

A:HP Pavilion ZE4500 battery....

Not battery failure. The battery is probably just not holding charge anymore. With all rechargable devices, you can only charge and discharge a certain amount of times. Just like iPods, the battery gets weaker and weaker with each charge. Eventually the cells on the inside lose charge, you could plug in the ac adapter, wait for it to charge while its turned on, and unplug the ac adapter, the laptop will instantly shut off. Basically you need to buy a new battery once this starts happening.

HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab019axSerious issues with battery life since July/August last year (prior to warranty expiration)I have performed HP?s own battery check and it recommends a replacement (42) on 18 month young laptop!!!The screen goes fuzzy, black and freezes after last remote sessionI have had 4 or 5 remote sessions with no improvementLast 2 of those have been in the past 2 weeks after which screen went all fuzzy with blue lines. I had to force reboot  and since then the screen freezes and/or flickers black. Laptop is completely unstable now.I had around 5 hours on battery life and from one day to the next, this changed to about 1 hoursIn the 18 months I?ve had the laptop I?ve run down the battery frequentlyBattery keeps loosing life even plugged in, currently showing ?65% available plugged in not charging? from its usual 91%HP test says REPLACE battery

Replace the Battery is the only resolution. Take the laptop to the nearest service center.

Hi, For the last couple weeks my laptop will just shut down when it is not plugged in - without any warning. The battery shows plenty of power. I am only usually able to get 20-30 minutes without it plugged in before it does this. The battery is not warm when it shuts down so it is not overheating. It works fine when it is plugged in. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.
