IE11 : Intranet zone not detected automatically

Q: IE11 : Intranet zone not detected automatically

Hi,

I am running IE 11 on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server, which is part of a domain.

When accessing sites from the internal network, I get a blank page. I noticed that it was due to the fact that these sites are not in the "Local intranet" zone, and when I add them manually it works.

In Internet Options > Security > Local intranet, when I click on "Sites", I directly have the window with the advanced configuration, where I have to manually define a list of websites. I do not see the window
with the "Automatically detect intranet network" checkbox (but I have it on other servers).

If I manually add the IP and domain with wildcards, I can access my internal sites, but I would have to do that for every user connecting to the server. I'd prefer if it was automatic, as it is on other servers.

Can you help me please ?
Thanks.

Preferred Solution: IE11 : Intranet zone not detected automatically

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having a lot of hard time. I have a cloned virtual machines and on one of the VM, IE11 is not detecting any of the internal sites in Intranet zone, while other machines are detecting internal site as Intranet. I have checked almost everything like NIC
config, VM config, IE related registry settings, IE options, GPO, installed programs and patches etc. All these things are exactly the same on other VMs where internal sites are getting detected correctly.
OS- Windows server 2012 R2
Hyper visor- Vmware

Please help me move in right direction, I am out of options now

Hi,

We have an odd issue. IE11 is running all sites in compatibility mode. This appears to be because it is treating all sites as being in the Intranet Zone. This is:
a) breaks many websites that require modern browsers
b) is a huge security issue as many protections are disabled by default on the intranet zone.

Has anyone else seen this or have ideas on what we can do to solve it.

I will add that we have autodetect proxy settings enabled, and wpad hosts a proxy.pac that instructs browsers to go direct to all websites.

Thanks

Nick

Under Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites ? there is an option to automatically detect intranet sites.
How does this work? Because it doesn't seem to work.  It will not automatically detect that one of our internal websites is an internal website.  I assume that it is supposed to do what it says it does.
Do I need to do something in DNS?
The only way I can get the browser to see that this site is an intranet site (for integrated authentication purposes) is to manually add the domain to the list of intranet sites, which completely defeats the point of any option like "automatically detect".
So how do I get it to work?

A:Automatically Detect Intranet Zone

Hi,

Managing zones for Internet Explorer can be done using the following setting: Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Site to Zone Assignment List.

The Site to Zone Assignment List policy setting allows you to manage a list of sites that you want to associate with a particular security zone. There are zone numbers which have associated security settings that apply to all of the sites in the zone.

The Site to Zone Assignment List policy setting associates sites to zones, using the following values for the Internet Security zones: (1) Intranet zone, (2) Trusted Sites zone, (3) Internet zone, and (4) Restricted Sites zone. If you set this policy setting
to Enabled, you can enter a list of sites and their related zone numbers. The association of a site with a zone ensures that the security settings for the specified zone are applied to the site. See the Explain text for this policy setting for more information.

If you configure the Site to Zone Assignment List policy setting for both Computer Configuration and User Configuration, both of these lists are used.

I have tried for about a day to remove these links on my clients computer, all malware has been removed, using Vipre rescue and Malwarebytes. I have searched the forums to find a way to remove, and HJT won't removed them. I have performed this muliple times in safe and normal mode, run Ccleaner to removve the temp files. This recurring symptoms are this hp.ierediect coming up in IE, I have downgraded to IE7 and the symptoms just now seem to have gone away but still can't get rid of the enties in the HJT scan.
I was hoping there might be a way to remove this from the registry but all postings are Win XP and the keys don't seem to exist in Vista.

Hi,
I'm currently have the issue, that mainly PDF files are handled different ways on each website.

First example: I open a PDF file in our document management system (Intranet), I only can choose to save
the file. If I open the catering menu pdf (Intranet), it opens directly in the IE11.
Seconde example: I search google for any PDF (i.e.
http://www.orimi.com/pdf-test.pdf), it opens within the IE11.
If I open Outlook Webaccess, I only can download the file.
In the past with IE 10, I have been asked to open or to save the file.

Any idea what happened here? IE 11 is configured through GPO.

Thank you for your help!

Alex

We have deployed IE11 via IEAK and have a proxy set which currently set to return direct for all sites. This means IE is seeing all external sites in the intranet zone due to the setting 'include all sites that bypass the proxy server' being enabled. If
I manually untick this then everything works as all external sites are in the internet zone and the setting is permanent.
However, I need to deploy this setting site wide and the group policy "Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control Panel/Security Page - Intranet Sites: Include all sites that bypass the proxy server" (both computer and user) set to disable
only greys out the box unticked but does not actually move external sites into the internet zone.
I've tried using GPP to delete the registry key HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Proxybypass which does work but as soon as I re-launch IE the setting is written back with the value 1 and it is back in the wrong state
again.
Using process monitor I can see it is iexplore.exe that sets this key back to 1 on launch and when I manually untick the box all it does it delete the Proxybypass key and nothing else. Has anyone seen this before and managed to work around it?  It seems

Some of our intranet websites are using http.  Our domain ends .gov.uk.  Once KB4494440

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4494440/windows-10-update-kb4494440 has been installed on a machine, that machine can no longer access the site.  If we use a url of

Is there a way of having intranet servers ignored regarding this behaviour so we can include the domain name as part of the URL?
I tried removing KB4494440 and was then able to access http intranet sites as long as I hadn't tried to access them with the update in place.  This seems to suggest that there is a cache, but even after clearing the browser cache I still couldn't access
the sites.  Can anyone tell me where the cache is

I'm trying to figure out why the setting "automatically detect intranet network" is greyed out and will not let me change it.  This is a Win 7 box on a domain.  I am a domain admin and a local admin on my box.  The dialog under Security,
Intranet says "some settings are managed by your systems administrator" at the bottom.  I've poured through every single GPO we have and no where do I see any IE settings getting pushed out.  Anyone have any other ideas whats going on here?
Its causing issues with one of our pages that it thinks is an intranet page, but its really not.  I've attached a couple screenshots

Where I work a manager bought a /16 block of Public IP addresses and it's been used for everything in our network.

In a GPO it's set to prompt for Zone Elevation in the Local Intranet Zone part of settings.
With IE9 users never get a prompt when going from one intranet URL to the next.
But with IE11 they suddenly do. No GPO's altered (yet).
Reading
this blog I understand why it happens. And it makes sense when you use private addresses for your LAN.

Is there any way I can work around this?

However with IE11 on Windows 8.1 there are ongoing problems in connecting to these games.
One has to jump through a series of hoops in IE11 to get these games to function. In addition it sometimes it two or three attempts to achieve any success.

Does anyone know of a guaranteed method of making the games work and keeping them working on IE11?

Hello!

This is IE11 / Windows 10 and Windows 7

For audit/security purposes, I'm currently investigating disabling downloading from the Internet Zone in our workplace.

This means that I assign sites to the Trusted Sites zone in order to allow downloading from them.

Some sites, when I click a link to download a file, start by downloading a 'Blob:1234123412341' file, which then fails to download what the blob is connecting to / requesting.

it seems to load the blob in the Internet Zone even though it was part of a link located on a site that is set as a Trusted Site and other files from that site download just fine.

How can I enable trusted site Blob downloads, but not ALL blobs from everywhere?

Thank you!

FWIW:  You should never...use Windows Update for drivers.  If the system is an OEM/name brand system (e.g., HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.) you should get drivers for the system from the respective system manufacturer's websitel.

I have 7 email accounts on our Exchange server for different business and personal roles.  I have always used OWA instead of Outlook to segregate accounts on my desktop.  For quick logins I have been using "Keyboard Express"

This same think happened to IE11 when I ran the Windows 10 upgrade 2 months ago, so I restored Win7 with a disk image to get rid of Window 10.
Is there a way to assign precedence between a Macro Program and IE11 Hotkeys ?

I have ran SFC /scannow a couple times and no errors have been identified. I have been having this problem for a couple months now and have just been using Chrome. I have also had several issues with the Aero Effects and Themes as I have to troubleshoot that multiple times a day.
I am receiving error code '3FD' from Windows Update regarding IE11.

Attached is my log.

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

A:Unable To Add Laptop To Trusted Zone In Zone Alarm

I'm in the same situation, and have learned a few things. Go to Start > Run >cmd. In the black box, type ipconfig. This will give you the ip address of the computer you're on, as well as the gateway ip address of the wireless router. I also have zonealarm firewall, so I added the ip address to the trusted zone. You may also want to check your wireless router's info because depending on the security you've set, it may ask you for a code (WEP or WPA). Let's start here and see what happens. Sounds like this will be one for many inputs...

As per TMacK's instructions I am moving my thread from the "AntiVirus, Firewall and Privacy Products and Protection Methods" forum to here.

I have been really happy with the security that Zone Alarm has offered me so far, but I do have a few gripes with it as of late. If I try to open Firefox while Zone Alarm is running, I will get a "this page cannot be displayed" type error. Same thing if I use Internet Explorer. If I keep refreshing or restarting Internet Explorer it will eventually work. Only them am I able to open Firefox and get it to connect (let me know if that doesn't make any sense). Sometimes I have to shut down Zone Alarm to connect to the internet on either browser and this gets quite annoying. I want to keep the security it brings, but it can e quite a hassle. It also either takes forever or won't allow me to log in to websites like MySpace.com. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thank you in advance for all of your help .

Hello slyblackdragon,I see you have an open HJT log posted in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. You shouldn't make any changes to your system, while your HJT log is posted, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it difficult to properly clean your system. At this point, the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.I'm closing this topic until you are cleared by the HJT Team. If, after your log has been cleaned, you still need help, please PM a Moderator and we will re-open this topic. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

1. I have two JSP files like "one.jsp" and "two.jsp"
2. I have two muti select boxes like ACCOUNTS and FUCNTIONS In one.jsp. These two multi select boxes are getting loaded from two.jsp by using the frame like below.
var lsCombo = parent.MainFrame.document.dataframe.accountSelectBoxName.options;
lsCombo[0] = new Option("key","value");
lsCombo[1] = new Option("key","value");

var lsCombo = parent.MainFrame.document.dataframe.fucntionSelectBoxName.options;
lsCombo[0] = new Option("key","value");
lsCombo[1] = new Option("key","value");

3. Now those two box values are loaded.
4. I am trying to retreive the option values using javascript like below,

fucntionSelectBoxName.options[0].value - Now I am able to retreive the value
accountSelectBoxName.options[0].value - Now I can't retreive the value and getting error like permission denied.

5. Here, I understood that, only lastly loaded frame is an active mode and which is pointing to respective parent frame.
But first loaded frames are not in an active mode and which are not pointing to respective parent frame.

Thanks in advance

Greating,
I?d like to set my apache(+php+mysql) running on win7 OS, visible for other members of my lan/wifi group of computers (i.e. typing my IP or alias into browser manages showing my localhost).
But I haven?t been able to google step-by-step tutorial or manual anywhere.
On arch-linux I did it during few sec. so I suppose it isn?t so hard to do so in win7.

Thank you so much for any reply

According to the link below port 80 which is the one that apache typically uses is being used by Windows 7 for something else. This link tells you how to fix the problem.

This link seems to have a step by step set up for apache but port 80 was a problem.

I have a small 5 pc intranet, and all can see the entire workgroup (called Heatherhouse) (they can also see the problem pc) but when I try to see the workgroup from the problem pc, I get
" Heatherhouse is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.
The Network path was not found. "
The user (me) is a member of the admin group, but for the life of me, I can not find out where this problem is.
Your help would be appreciated.

Internet from Shaw network modem to Linksys wireless router. Hard wired from Linksys to DLink router, then hard wired from DLink to problem PC. Also useing same route to second PC that can see the workgroup.

We have a novell intranet with 12 stations. One of the stations have an internet connection. How can I ensure that the internet connection can not possibly corrupt our intranet system? I have Norton Firewall and anti-virus installed and I have removed the ICS connection from this computer.

Thanks in advance.

A:Intranet vs Internet

What do you mean by corrupt? With any connection to the internet the possibility of being hacked and contracting a virus exists regardless of what protective software you are running. If you are attentive and keep your antivirus and firewall current you lessen the odds, but by its nature the internet is unsecure.

I was wondering if there is a way to set up MS IIS to allow there to be a website and a intranet site on the same server.

I ask this because I now have two servers running. One for the intranet and one for the website. I want people from the outside to be able to access the website, but not the intranet and people from the inside able to access both.

Someone please help me out here as I am not to familiar with MS IIS.

Thank you

I can not consistently load pages using IE8 on my local intranet. I never receive a "page not found" error. You just get a "wait for..." message in the progress bar and nothing ever happens.

This only affects my PC. All other PCs in the network load the pages without issue.

I do develop web applications on this PC, so not sure it software or settings on my PC are preventing a consistent load.

Any help is appreciated.

So, I am looking to get ahold of an intranet messenger-like program for use in a commercial business setting. Ideally, I am looking for free (or cheap) options, but I understand that you get what you pay for. I downloaded LAN Messenger from SourceForge and I really like it, but I had some pretty big issues with it. So, let me explain some criteria and maybe someone knows of a program that meets those needs. Throw some suggestions at me!

- HIPAA-compliant security.
-- This is a medical facility and we are bound by HIPAA to safeguard PHI.

- Able to run simultaneous instances.
-- LAN Messenger is nice because it pulls Window account name, but can only be run on one user at at time. This is very inconvenient for the way we conduct our business. Multiple people may use the same computer throughout the day and have tasks running that they may need to return to, which makes logging off that user account cumbersome.

- Ideally, server-based and/or administrator access.
-- I need to be able to establish user groups, in the contact list, that are populated on all users connected. Our employees need to be able to easily see who is in what department. I also need a level of control over users, such as chat monitoring and enabling/disabling accounts. I would like to be able to ensure the program is being used for work-related purposes and that information discussed is compliant with both HIPAA and our company policies.

- A polished UI, or the ability to create themes.

I'm on Windows XP SP3 and using IE 7.0.5730.13

I'm using our company intranet, which is wrote using classic ASP and javascript. The home page of the intranet has several Iframes that use javascript to refresh the content at set intervals.

The problem is after a while the intranet just dies. You cannot refresh, clear the cache, etc, or even close the tab and open another one to reload it. You have to restart IE and load the site again, which will then continue to work. There is no set time as to when this things dies. Sometimes it can happen in minutes, other times it can go for hours or it doesn't happen at all, it seems to be a random event. All the other pages are fine, it just seems to be the home page. I'm sure it could have something to do with the constant iframes reloads, but I've searched everywhere but cannot find anything.

If you do try and refresh the screen goes blank for ages before finally returning 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage', I then run the 'Diagnose Connection Problems' amd it reports no errors???

I've had this problem for a while and was wondering if anyone else has had the same thing and a possible solution.

A:Intranet dies after a while

There could be a resource leak somewhere on the homepage. Check resources for the instance of IE you are using in task manager, and see if it increases dramatically over time.

Also, are the IFRAME content pages "huge" or relatively small?
