I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there and welcome to TSF.

I'm afraid we can't help you to circumvent restrictions on a computer, as whilst your query may be genuine, we have no way of knowing. I suggest you get in touch with the school that the computer came from and get them to format it.

I recently got a hand-me-down Dell 6400 Inspiron Laptop from a company I work for and unfortunately, it's inaccessible with an admininstrator password that was set by a former employee. I've made several attempts by going into "safemode", but it is still giving me the same problem only this time, it has the previous person's user name and administrator link. I tried going in without a password using the administrator icon, but it's locked also and requires a password.

It's a little difficult reaching the person who used the laptop before me because I don't have current contact information. It's been frustrating for the past two weeks but I would like to resolve my situation on my own before I suddenly have the urge to give up and take it somewhere or to someone to fix it.

Any response to my inquiry is greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my message.

I have recently ran into an issue that is probably not too uncommon but I am having issues with. I currently forgot my password for my admin account on my laptop that runs on windows vista, i have looked up ways to bypass this issue and have ran into some issues along the way so first i looked up a password rescuer online but figured that i would have a hard time running it because my pass is more than 14 characters long. i also tried to run a system restore on it for an earlier time before i changed the password that i have currently forgot but an error keeps coming up due to a corrupted file on my c drive. all i want to do is gain access to my admin account so i can back up the files that are precious to me so i can run a factory restore on my computer then have it running clean again. Anyhow, I looked online for some other ideas and im currently reading and looking into ways to bypass the admin account by using a sticky keys trick the windows vista password or offline enabling the built in admin account on vista. The trouble that I am having is that i made it to where my files were viewable and accessable only through the admin account, does that mean they are encrypted? also would doing these tricks possibly delete my files or make them unaccessable? i also dont have a vista or windows setup dvd could i possibly do anything to bypass the admin account to keep my files, without the dvd? thank you so much, i know im in one heck of a pickle any help is very appreciated.

OK guys, here's one for ya and so far none of my techie friends have come up with a solution.

I have an Acer 2012 WLMi laptop that unfortunately took a drink across its keyboard. I have purchased a new keyboard but unfortunately it does not work, all I can assume is that I fried the bridge.

I am unable to plug in a USB keyboard because I don't have administrator privileges, when I try, I am asked for the admin name & password, neither of which I can remember.

When I boot up, I get to the welcome screen and because I can't use the keyboard to log in as myself, I have to log in as a guest. When I then try to plug in any USB hardware, I'm told I don't have sufficient privileges.

I can't help but think that knowing Microsoft's cavalier attitude towards security, that there must be a way around this. Unfortunately neither my techie frinds nor I have found it yet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated but please bear in mind: I CANNOT USE A KEYBOARD!

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Admin pass bypass - no keyboard available

Unfortunately we cannot assist you with bypassing the administrator password. The username would be administrator (unless you changed it) and the password defaults to no password unless you set one when windows was installed.

I've never been prompted for username/password when installing a USB keyboard, just plug it in before starting your PC up and see if it works (can you get into the BIOS with the USB keyboard?)

In order to to clean the PC (ie remove files or download malware protection) I need admin username and password, but I don't have that and the gentleman I purchased the computer from does not know either.

Ive attempted to research methods to reset the computer and all methods have failed because I need admin credentials to reset the computer.

Is there a way to reset and erased the computer to its original factory settings? I also read I may need to buy a CD or download a rest to a cd or usb on another computer. Is there a reputable website to reset or refresh that is cheap or preferably free

Afternoon,

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Mike

Hi All,
I tested the following attacks in Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics and found them
not to be working.

Bruteforce Attack Pass-The-Ticket Pass-The-Hash Sensitive account exposed Using Plain-Text Authentication
I have tested other attacks like Reconnaissance
using DNS, Broken Trust, Honey Token account suspicious activities but they are working perfectly fine. I don't know
what's the issue with the above 4.
For
1. Bruteforce Attack:
I used thc-hydra-windows and triggered a dictionary attack using a list of passwords.

2. Pass-The-Ticket:
I used mimikatz to steal the kerberos ticket from a PC on which Admin is logged on. Impersonating an attacker, I copied the .kirbi file and Injected that file(using mimikatz again) to another PC on which a domain user is logged in.

3. Pass-The-Hash:
(Same as above)
4. Sensitive account exposed in plain text authentication:
I used mimikatz command 'sekurlsa :: logonpasswords' and was able to get passwords of all the users who logged on to that PC. But this was also not detected by MATA.

Please help me with the above issues. If possible, provide the tools using which I can trigger and detect those attacks.

I have recently installed ATA (1.8.6645.28499). It is now in to the second week of its learning phase and it is raising a considerable number of false pass-the-hash alerts when users initiate Citrix sessions from their usual PC using pass-thru authentication,
eg a typical alert would be:
Bloggs,Fred's hash was stolen from one of the computers previously logged into by Bloggs,Fred and used from xx1234
Clearly this is spurious - in each case the user is initiating a Citrix session from their
own PC and the xx1234 represents a Citrix server in the farm in every case.
1) Why am I only receiving a handful of related PTH alerts each day when I have many thousands of Citrix users, all authenticating in the same manner?
2) How can I supress these alerts?
What I effectively want to say is 'IF the suspected PTH is being triggered BY the user on their OWN PC and the target server is in our Citrix farm' then ignore it. I can't see a way of setting an exclusion range like this for PTH events though?
Thanks

Vista, Intel Centino duo

I press the power button and it does nothing except turn the blue power button and green lights on. It does not start up at all. Its the same with the Media Direct button.

First, it had blue lines down the screen a couple weeks ago. That seemed to be solved by the F12 hardware assessment. When we got it to boot up again, we ran a full virus scan and found nothing. We did a really in-depth hardware scan and found no problems. Later it would freeze and then go to Blue then red then green then white screens at start up. Today it kept freezing on the welcome screen and once on a white screen. It started once in safe mode but that's all. Now it won't do anything.

I'd greatly appreciate any help/advice. Thank you! Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post to.

I have a Dell xps M1210. I know little to nothing about computer hardware. My laptop crashed sometime ago. It was reformatted and everything to the best of my knowledge was re-installed. I am running Windows XP Pro.
My laptop appears to get on the wireles network at my office. I sent my laptop home with one of my guys... and after some tinkiering he says he could get on at his place. I bring my laptop home and the same thing occurs, my laptop sees our network here at home, tries to connect but is "unable to connect". The wireless is intel(R)Proset...? Generally when somebody tries to access my home network I get an intruder alert. My network has shown no warnings about my laptop trying to connect to it. We've used Home Network Magic previously ( came as a free trial on my XPS when I purchased it). My wireless router is a d-link extreme.
My home network is accessed by my wife's Mac.
I hope there is something really elementary as far as a solution for my situation. When it comes to computer I am a total caveman.
Thanks... If I'm in the wrong area for this kind of question, apologies, hopefully I can get pointes in the right direction.

It doesn't show up in the device manager as an installed working device or an unidentified hardware that drivers need to be installed for. It doesn't show up in the control panel or anything.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 running Win 7 Professional. Did a clean install on a brand new hard disk from a self-burned DVD (from the MS Student Discount program).

Some specs: C2D T7200 2.0G, 4GB DDR2, NVIDIA 7400, WD3200BEKT, A08 BIOS

Ever since the install (back in January), the laptop can only sleep/wake once. The laptop experienced no issues when running XP/Vista.

Boot -> Login -> Sleep -> Wake -> Sleep -> Hang -> BSOD (sometimes)

This problem is reproducible 100% of the time. I checked the system log between sleep attempts. Windows always logs the same error that reads:

"The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition. Please check for updated firmware for your system." The error cites the HAL as its source. The first and last corrupted page is always 63. Subsequent attempts to put the laptop to sleep cause the system to hang. Only the screen/wifi turn off - the rest of the computer is powered. The only way out is to press and hold the power button.

Microsoft does have a paper detailing the issue, and suggests updating the BIOS. However, the most recent version of the firmware for my system is already installed. I have tried updating stock Windows drivers with those from the manufacturer (ie Dell, Intel Chipset), but that did not help. Device manager shows no hardware conflicts/problems.

Are there any other XPS M1210 owners experiencing the same problem, or is this an isolated incident?

A:Dell XPS M1210 can't sleep more than once

Personally I don't recommend using sleep functions in Windows. While it may work wonders in Unix based systems, it's not quite as refined in DOS based systems. It frequently hangs, disrupts processes and causes BSODs. Just shut down your computer when not in use, if you have a decent system it should take no more than ~60 seconds to boot.

I am trying to figure out if the results I'm seeing for my M1210 in CrystalDiskMark are normal for this computer or not. Please see the attachment. I know ATA is limited to like 150MB/s but the results I'm seeing for some of the write speeds are sooo low. Is it because I put an SSD in this old computer? I think this is a great computer and it runs Windows 10 surprisingly well considering it's 10 years old so I would like to get it running full speed, any help is appreciated.
BTW I found a driver online that gets the Nvidia graphics working on Windows 10, it's so smooth opening and closing basic apps like Edge.

A:M1210 CrystalDiskMark results seem very low?

You're likely not going to get more than that -- this system is old enough it likely has a SATA to IDE bridge -- and no native support for AHCI.  Even if it's in AHCI mode, SATA 150 is the limit -- and you're at 126, so you're not likely to do better.

Hi all!

I have a Dell XPS M1210. It was running Windows XP Professional. It was running quite slowly, so I reformatted and installed Windows XP Media Center Edition. Even when I was just first installing drivers (that I loaded onto my flash drive from a safe, virus-free, and malware-free desktop with internet access) onto this M1210, it was taking 10-11 minutes to just log off.

I have the "welcome screen" turned off, so it says "Logging off..." for about 10-11 minutes (when I didn't have the "welcome screen" turned off, it was just a blank screen [my wallpaper, but no taskbar or icons]). Then, as soon as that's finished, it takes ~10 seconds to actually shut down.

Is this a mere coincidence?

I installed the drivers that I got directly from Dell's site. Th... Read more
