I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I pressed the power button, then lenovo logo came out after that saw this 2102. I pressed ESC as instructed to continue , the Boot and app menu came out. I tried everything on boot menu just an endless loop. I tried lenovo diagnostic on app menu , all tests are fine, all green and passed. But it just another loop after I exit. I am forced to press the power button in order to turn off the laptop. What can I do? Help!

Hi Lenovo Community,  around April/May I bought a T470 and since then my Notebook is crashing from time to time out of nothing with the apparently famous "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.First this error screen shows up:     First error messageAnd it is shortly followed up by this one:Second error messageBefore starting this thread I had a look into the community and the older posts. This seems to be a problem which comes up often with all kind of Lenovo Notebooks (ThinkPads and also IdeaPads) however there was no thread for the T470 model yet and the suggested solutions (mostly only to update the drivers) didn't really solve my problem...!All my drivers are regularly updated via Lenovo Companion and yet the problem still comes out of nothing...Does anyone have an idea?Thank you.Best Regards,GT500M

I got a new T440s with a standard disk hard drive. My coworker gave me a Crucial SSD 512GB drive to swap in its place. I imaged the current drive on to the SSD and inserted it. Upon boot, before the boot sequence I receive the 2102 error. There is nothing in the SSD2 slot, as we didn't buy this option. The theory in my workplace (tech firm) is that I may have accidentally turned power on while swapping the drive while no drive was in the primary slot. How/where in the bios do I keep the machine from looking into this slot to boot? Currently what happens is the error is thrown and I have to hit escape to boot windows. This is a minor inconvenience, there is no loss of functionality, but when powering up on a dock or rebooting, it requires user presence. Thanks for your help.

A:2102: Detection error on SSD2 (M.2)

t440s might have three slots for drives - one sata III 2,5" and two m.2 slots. Usually new laptops with HDD are shipping with cache m.2 SSD which is placed in the 3rd slot. Since error 2102 is msata drive detection related I'd suggest to check out your laptop configuration and remove small SSD since you have primary SSD drive. But at first check out the function of small SSD drive - cache only or/and hibernation partition storage. And disable appropriate features for that drive.

Hi, I have been getting this error when I boot the computer and I have to press the escape key for over three months now. I've been doing all kinds of research on here and on google and tech sites. Everyone says that its because the drive in that slot is bad or the connection to it is bad. Well I don't have a drive there. I have also done all kinds of tests, Shot tests long tests and even longer tests and every single test passed with flying colors. I'm so lost on what to do right now. The computer is less than a year old, and I have had so many issues. Its crashed and burned three times in the last two months. I am always able to safe it though but this is something that I just an't seem to find a fix. Help? is there a way I can just disable the warning or error message in BIOS?Thank You, T550 20CK ThinkpadIntel Core i5-5200U Processor (2.20GHz)4.0GB RAM1x500GB SATA,1x16GB NGFFWindows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 6415.6in 1366X768Intel HD Graphics 5500720p HD CameraFingerprint ReaderUltraNav (Multitouch)EthernetIntel Wireless 7265AC(2x2)+BT4.0 M.2 ComboBluetooth 4.03 Cell Li-Polymer

Hi I have a 2nd Gen X1 Yoga (20JES00N00) which is not even a year old and, for the third time now, is giving me an error ("2100 Detection Error on Storage Device (M.2) \\ Press Esc to continue.") when I start it up (and pressing Esc as instructed only prompts a question where to boot from, and then leads to the same error again). First time this happened (in March), Lenovo Hotline Zagreb sent me a new SSD, which I had installed by an expert (turned out it was impossible to do without special tools, because a screw had been overtightened at the factory). Second time (in May), I got a new SSD and mainboard installed. (Needless to say, each time with significant downtime and hassle setting up the system by myself again). Now the error is back a third time. Does anybody know of a solution which really works? This is rather frustrating.

Hi Guys ! I have been getting this error for a while now. Since august I think. It happens very randomly and I don't know what triggers it really. I tried to put another m.2 and it worked perfectly, no errors. But with the factory m.2 I get this error and I never got the way around to fix it. When I first got this error I barely could start my computer. 9/10 times I got the error and I couldn't start the computer at all. I replaced it with another m.2 and worked fine until I decided I wanted to put the factory one again ( because it has twice as much storage ). Now I still get the error but rarely. Casually. In very random situations. I still find it very frustrating and I was hoping someone has any solution. Thanks and have a nice day

About a month of regular use with my Yoga 3rd Gen. laptop, I started getting an inconsistent error whenever I attempted to power up the device. For about a week or two I attributed this 2100 error to the software side as nothing hardware had changed, or at least to my knowledge. After no avail after windows updates/intel updates, I then switched to the hardware aspect after reading online posts with a similar issue and potential solutions. I unscrewed the back cover with little difficulty and located the M2 drive. My plan was to reseat the drive as I had read online that this could be a quick fix. However, the stubborn M2 drive would not budge, resulting in some unfortunate stripping. I then tried to increase the padding to the drive as I had hoped the issue was stemming from my daily commute and movement the laptop was experiencing. I first using some eletrical tape as a way to decrease the distance between the back cover to the drive. After using the computer that night, this attempt appeared to be successful as I did not run into any error. However, the next day when I powered on the device, I was faced with the familiar black screen 2100 error. Once again, I then tried to increase the artificial padding and to see if I was on the right track. Today, the first day after the weekend, I had to see if I had finally found a solution but was faced with 2100 errors and constant blue screens/crashes after a few minutes of use. The only options that I have left whic... Read more

This is less than 1 week old X1 Extreme Gen2. I had to repair my ideapad 530s three times and wasted so much time on that so I thought let's try "professional" instead of "media" laptop. I reused my Crucial 1TB NVME SSD that was working just fine in ideapad and stuck it in X1. What I'm seeing in X1 are random freezes, parts of the drive not being accessible, whole drive not being accessible and finally 2101 boot errors. What I tried so far: made sure all drivers are up to date, swapping SSDs in the two slots (stock Intel 256GB with Crucial 1TB), using 1TB drive with external USB-C caddy and placing the 1TB drive back into ideapad. SSD works perfectly fine when out of X1 and creates the same errors regardless of where I place it inside the X1. I also tried some third party drive health check utilities, they all said the drive is fine and Lenovo's boot utility/system checker said the same as well. EDIT: I also tried changing Lenovo power saving plan so that disk never goes to sleep if laptop is plugged in. Another thing I also noticed is that every time I will plug in or out either power cable or headphone jack the screen will go black for a second or two, as if I was connecting an external monitor. Not sure what is going on with this machine. I'm trying to backup data right now and I type this on ideapad. Is there anything I can try before I return this laptop? Hi, last week I received my new T470; everything fine until yesterday when, after enabling virtualization support when running on battery, I received the infamous "2100: Detection error on HDD0". Power off and on again and the system booted correctly. After a couple of hours I left the pc for ten minutes or so and I wasn't able to wake it up: power light was on but tapping on keys or touchpad didn't wake the laptop up. Power off and a second "2100"; this time turning the pc off and on didn't do the trick... I thought the issue could be related to the virtualization settings I had enabled, so I entered the BIOS and disabled virtualization. Bingo, the pc booted! So, just to be sure that it was the root cause of the problem, I re-enabled it.. but everything went fine!  From then I'm not able to reproduce the issue anymore, but my OCD (and my colleagues, that kept saying I should have bought a Mac) is telling me that I have to fix this. Hi all,i am discovering the same problem as most people here.I have an expensive Yoga Thinkpad 12, about 2000,= euro's in januari 2014, warranty endded in januari 2016, my extra 3rd yr warranty i have bought is missing by Lenovo (i forgot the registration but in the mean time i have send the supportdesk from Lenovo al the documents including pincode from the card) and now they say de extra warranty was canceled and / or credited. Nothing of that. poor service for such a great brand. But now my problem. about 3 weeks ago all of a sudden my SSD stopped and generated this 2100 error. It's a Samsung M27TD256 from the same series as Lenovo mentioned. Because of Lenovo's attitude of not servicing (Oh yes the supportdesk guy said SSD Failure, needs to be replaced for new) i went on to the Internet how to open the machine and without any damage that was no problem. I have a computer repaircentre myself and i tried to replace te Samsung SSD with: a 120 Gb Kingston SSD / a 240 Gb Kingston Fury SSD / an Intel 120 Gb SSD. All brand new, right out of stock, non will work !!!So i took the old original SSD, tested it in another PC and it works perfectly, i could install Win 10 and boot from it.I put it bak in the Yoga... nothing. the 2100 error again. So i thought it would be the mailboard or controller but curious a i am, i took an old 250 Gb harddrive, no SSD and guess what....... I had the same problem on a S230U Lenovo Twist. I replaced the MB and the HDD and the HD connector/controller and had the same problem. By accident, as a result of testing I installed the HD without the bracket that holds it in place. Voila it has not failed once since then. It has been running flawlessly for 2 months or more now. I havent bothered to reinstall the bracket since it is running great. There is almost no extra room in the HD compartment so I am not worried about it flopping around. Only thing I can figure is there is some kind of static buildup with the bracket installed. I tried bending the bracket to see if I could make it contact the MB to discarge static if that was the case. No good. Removed the bracket, and it worked immediately. I don't know if that will work for you but it worked for me.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, with a 256GB SSD and an i5 processor. I received it on April 29. After two weeks of normal use, it crashed and gave this error:?2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)?I could not get it to boot. I took it to a computer repair shop and they (Lenovo warrantee) replaced the SSD. It worked for about a week, then crashed again, same error. My tech guy said that it might be a bad board, frying hard drives; but Lenovo insisted on replacing the hard drive again. Ten days later, same crash. I unplugged it and put it on a shelf for the weekend, intending to take it back to the shop. Monday morning I plugged it in and it started up normally. It has been working normally for three days, but I am worried about getting the same error and crash. Can you tell me what might be happening, and if there is anything I can do to prevent a recurrence? This seems to be a common problem across many machine models, but I haven't found any solutions to it.

Whenever I try to restart my ThinkPad T440s, it takes a very long time to get past the "ThinkPad" screen.  If I hard reboot it while it's stuck here (press and hold the power key, then turn it back on), it loads just fine.  However, if I let it keep going it beeps loudly and angrily and gives me the 2100: Detection error on HDDO (Main HDD) on a black screen with only "Press Esc to continue".  When I press Esc it loads the boot screen, but without access to my hard drive.  If I hard reboot it again, it starts just fine. Any ideas on why it would be doing this, or what I could do to fix it?  It looks like it was a common problem a few years ago, but this is new to me and it doesn't really look like there was a fix back then.  Hoping there's better news now? Any help is appreciated!

I bought my P43s about 2 months ago, I added 16 GB of RAM and a Crucial P1 1TB NVME M.2 SSD to the laptop. After a month of regular use, I started getting the following error: 2101: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD).  Here is the troubleshooting that I have done:- Checked the SSD to ensure it is well position into its connection.- Updated the Bios.- I thought the issue was due to a faulty SSD but after I put the original SSD back in and returned the Crucial SSD, it still got the error. Now I am really not sure what the issue is. Is anyone having a similar issue? Could it be a problem in the miniSATA connection? Thanks

Hello everybody, I know that there are some other posts with this error message. But they all appear on other devices and none of them has a solution which is working for me. I got a T430s back from one of our users which showed this error (mentioned in subject) when booting. I had no no chance to enter BIOS too. 1. I copied all partitions to another SSD and replaced it => the error came up again after few days=> so I thought it must be an hardware issue concerning the internal SATA-connector2. I put the SSD in a completely new device and ordered a replacement of the mainboard because there was waranty left on the older device.3. Yesterday they came and replaced the mainboard of the older device.4. Today the user came back with the same error on the new device with the new SSD In every case it helps to remove the SSD one time and insert it again - then the SSD is detected correctly - until the error appears again after few days of usage. The only thing I did not try until now is to insert the SSD in the old device with the new mainboard. Before I forget this: BIOS is Ver. 2.52 (I see there is 2.54 available since few days, but change log does not say something important - gonna check that later and post it) Any ideas? Thx Martin

A:T430s - 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

check with the OEM of the SSD drive. You did not mention the Make/model of the SSD. Maybe there is a firmware update for the SSD drive. Especially since the 430 has SATA3 interface. If its not hardware you'd need to assess what you're doing software wise in the "copied all partitions ot another SSD..." I have found out cloning can cause problems and partitions become misaligned. When I went ahead to fix the misalignment with Mini partition Manager it corrupted the registry and so other files. Various applications cannot be updated or uninstalled. I have to reimage it and not clone from the source to get it right.A quick test is to just to a base install on one of the SSD's (EG Windows 7) after purging all the partitions. Letting the OS configure, partition & format the NTFS drive. If it works after that then its not the hardware and a software issue. My thoughts anyway.

My laptop is T430 of Lenovo. I have two drives installed on my computer, one is SSD (128 G, PLEXTOR), another is HDD (500 G, Samsung). Now I have encountered a serious issue that I could not find the HDD in my Windows 10. Almost two weeks ago, I found my laptop crash frequently. I think there is an extreme incompatibility between the Windows 10 and SSD. I even reinstalled my OS for several times. But it still crashed. Even I opened a simple word file, it does not respond. Two days ago, the issue got even more serious. When I boot my system, I found a problem with "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". It suggests me to press the "ESC" button to enter into the OS. However, I could not find my HDD on my computer anymore. I have some paramount important data and files in this drive.  Could some friends provide some meaningful suggestions of recovering data and files for me, please?  I'm very anxious. Thank you very much!

Hello everyone,
One fine evening while watching a movie, my laptop stopped responding and in frustration I switched off the laptop by holding the power button long enough to turn off. Next Morning it showed a blue screen and a message to recover my windows, which I failed to do and by the afternoon this message showed up. Detection Error on HDD0 (main HDD) and hence forth I've been unable to install windows from a USB drive since ( and I suppose) it is not able to read my HDD. I do not care about my data at all, I just want my laptop up and running. If I can have the data back it will be perfect otherwise I don't mind not getting my data back. I know for a fact that my Hard disk is fine because I went into command prompt, diskpart , and list disk, and saw the status of HDD as healthy, this is after the error (detection error on HDD). SO my question is: Why this error? IS there a problem in the motherboard? Why the error shows once and then doesn't show the next time and then comes up again.

A:2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD); Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga

The error might be bad sectors, but I'm not sure. if my guessing is correct, you might have to get a new drive to replace. also you need to reinstall OS

I had a bigger hard drive installed on my ThinkPad T550. I decided to do this because a big Windows 10 update could not be installed because the original hard drive was full. After this I started getting crashes, either the HDD0 detection error or a blue screen. I took the laptop back to the technician a couple of times, he first removed the foil that had been around the original drive, then added it back etc. At some point I ran CCleaner and let it remove all the files it found. This seemed to have resolved the issue. Today, which is a couple of weeks after I first ran CCleaner, I suddenly got the HDD0 crash again. When I restarted the computer, there was a big Windows 10 update waiting. I installed it, but the computer kept crashing. I then ran CCleaner again. It found a dozen files to removed, for Edge, IE etc. (which I don't use). I let it remove those files and  since then the computer has been stable again. I lost a lot of time because of this error and presumed it was caused by a hardware issue, but it turns out it was simply a Windows 10 update problem. I hope this solution helps someone!

Good day dear forum members! My brand new X1 Carbon arrived fully loaded......with errors. Right out of the box it hit me with a BSOD (CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED). The system boots from the second attempt, but BSOD pops up every 5-10min. All drivers/BIOS updated. 1TB Samsung nvme ssd (PM961 f/w3L0QCXY7) seems to be using a driver dated 6/21/2006 and so does its "Standard NVM Express Controller". Samsung nvme driver cannot be installed because it claims there's no suitable ssd, Samsung magician doesn't recognize the drive either, however, it is properly identified in the device manager. Any suggestions before I ship this back..? Any help appreciated.

I have a T470. I took out the main sata ssd drive from the main drive bay. There is nothing in there. That is the way I want it. I put a Lexar NM520 M.2 2242 512GB NVMe Solid-State Drive in the WWAN port. I imaged that drive. I can boot to it. I don't know exactly how as it is not listed in the bios as a boot device, but it does boot to it. I assume it has something to do with it being NVMe and not SATA in the WWAN port. My problem is that before it boots to the WWAN m.2 NVMe drive it produces a boot error for the main drive missing. The error states MAIN DRIVE not found, esc to continue. Which requires me to push the escape button to continue booting. That is a problem for me. Is there any way to disable this main drive check? I know there is no main drive in that bay, obviously. I called lenovo consumer support and it was like talking to someone who had never heard of a computer before. Very frustrating.

A:T470 m.2 2242 Nvme WWAN as primary OS boot drive - error from missing main drive

That slot is specified as SATA with no mention of NVMe support.  It's surprising (to me...) that it boots.  I'd be concerned that some future BIOS update would remove the ability to boot.

My _guess_ is that a SATA drive would solve the error - but that's just a guess.  I have a bootable SATA m.2 drive in my T25 - which shares  the internals with the T470.  It's in the shop at the moment.  I may need to open it and will try to run a test when I can - but can't say when that might be.

Hello,I have an issue with my T470.  The main battery is not detected, only the external battery is working. How can i manage to make it work? Is it possible that there is no main battery?

Hello and welcome,

According to the platform specification, the internal battery is optional.  It's not clear whether any actually shipped without.

What is your laptop's MT-M (like 20HD000WUS as an example)?

I face a strange issue on a Lenovo T470 running Windows 10. The problem is when i open an excel spreadsheet, especially one with many tabs, and i drag it from the main display to the external monitor, Excel's cpu usage jumps from 5-8% to 50-60 %, and is not functioning properly. Cannot move from one cell to another, cannot scroll up and down. It is either very slow, or it totally crashes and i have to kill Excel. If i drag the file back to the main display, it works as expected. The issue occurs only when the external monitor is set up as extended monitor. If i set it up as duplicate monitor, it works fine.I tried removing and reinstalling the display driver and also tried disabling graphics hardware acceleration, but no luck. And this happens only with excel, no other application. A newer version of the driver is available from Intel, but when i try to install it says that it is not certified for the specific model and i should contact the vendor. Computer specs:- Lenovo T470- i5 7300U- 16 GB RAM- Windows 10 Enterprise Build 15063- Intel HD Graphics 620- Secondary monitor is connected either through HDMI or through an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Hello everyone.

I have a PC with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit installed. My problem is that with some usb devices I get an error 28. These devices are working on other PC. For example I have 2 usb sticks 16gb. The one is working fine, and the other has an error 28.
I searched for viruses with Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes and combofix and nothing was found.
Tried system restore, and also shut down the PC and disconnected it from power supply, just to discharge the capacitors. But still the same.

A:Mass Storage Device error

I run for a second time Malwarebytes, it found more things to delete and then everything was working.

My laptop, win xp ( Home) sp3, of late has a problem.

Whenever I insert a new device such as a card reader, into the usb port, after it is

detected, and the software (usb mass storage device) starts loading the driver, I then

received the following error message:

'The software you are installing for this hardware: USB Mass Storage Device has not passed Windows Logo to verify its compatibility with windows XP. Continue your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.'

Two options are then presented:

Continue Anyway or Stop installation
If I choose continue, the device will have a Yellow and ? Mark as an unknown device on the Device Manager.

I do not have any problem with this card reader on my other win xp sp3 computers, and I have used the same card reader with this computer for years without any problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

So my LSC just got done running and popped a result code of WHD01V01I-WM7BJM on the second hard drive. Any idea what this is trying to tell me? Says it failed the Targeted Read Test, SMART Short Self Test, and the SMART Drive Self Test. Any help is appreciated. I'm just wondering if this is indicating the first signs of a drive failure?
