I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello HP community, I've been upgrading our organization's laptops to Windows 10 and turning on BitLocker for TPM-enabled machines. We have a decent volume of the 6460b model (around 75), and I have gone through well over half of them without issue. I've had to turn the TPM on for several of them, but that's no problem. However, last week, I was getting two more of the laptops updated and suddently encountered an error message when going to the TPM Management interface within Windows: "Cannot load management console "Loading of the management console failed. The device that is required by this cryptographic provider is not ready for use. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80090030) Try again." The TPM shows in the device manager, but not in Speccy. The option in the BIOS for TPM controls is greyed out. I've tried the following and seen no change in symptoms:Uninstalling the TPM from the device manager and letting it re-install.Checking for any additional Windows updates.Updated the chipset drivers directly from the HP support site.Modifying the permissions in the BIOS to ensure that TPM options are set to "Change" rather than "View" or "Hide."Updating the BIOS with files from the HP support site. What other information could I provide that would help identify the issue here? It seems like the TPM is there because it continues to re-install itself after I remove it from the device manager. Further, the error indicates that it's not ready for use, implying ... Read more

Whether I call up the Computer management console by 'compmgmt.msc' at
the command line or use a shortcut, nothing appears in the window to
the right of the console tree (just 'no items to show in this view).

The group policy editor is similarly affected.

How do I get everything back? I have been googling the problem, but
have not come up with anything useful.

I can access the info by typing any *.msc at the command line though.

Any ideas for a fix?

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Can someone please explain Hardware Management Consoles (HMC) in the Mainframe computing environment. I have looked online and they all talk about it but I need a simple answer. How many do you have for one LPAR? If using one, does that prevent someone from doing work to the same LPAR? Thanks...

A:Hardware Management Console

Hashim,

Well actually, this is a PC Forum as opposed to a Mainframe Forum.

But back in the day...I worked for IBM. But at that time the only systems that had "hardware consoles" were high end systems that ran MVS.

The purpose of the Console is to reconfigure allocation of System Resources. As my memory serves me ....there was only one 'Hardware Console' attached to the Physical machine.

An LPAR...a Logical Partition, can have one or more System Consoles attached to it, as supported by its Op/Sys. An LPAR is like a Virtual Address Space for running applications & Op/Sys. Machine resources are allocated to individual LPARs. This is similar, but different than the way VM/370 handled it.

In VM there was a VM System Console (machine console) and then individual System Consoles for each Guest Op/Sys. Hardware (Real or Virtual) could be "attached" to the Guests in various ways, shared or Dedicated.

So, think of the HMC as the VM Console and the Guest Machines as the LPARs. Giving and reallocating resources is done thru the main Console in each system.

Therefore, when you said, "How many do you have for one LPAR? If using one, does that prevent someone from doing work to the same LPAR?" This statement doesn't compute.

Hi Shawn. Somebody told me today that Microsoft Management Console was something cool that I should look at. So I looked at it. It appears you launch it by opening a Command Prompt (I suppose it should be elevated but I didn't use one) and entering MMC. I am thinking that's equivalent to opening a Run box & entering MMC, or doing a Search for MMC & executing it.) So how come it isn't accessible through the GUI, let's say from something in Start Menu -> All Programs -> System Tools, for example? I know I could pin it there, but how come Microsoft didn't put something there as part of the standard configuration? (Or in maybe Administrative Tools or . . . nothing else jumps out at me.)

In any case, I opened the thing & looked around. I read about 2/3 of the built-in help. I looked at the list of available snap-ins.

And I was bewildered. What is this thing for? Most of the snap-ins appear to be for things I can get at otherwise from items at some level of the Start Menu.

So I came to the Forums here, where I've been finding no end of answers to all sorts of questions & I find . . . a handful of Tutorials, all written by you, explaining how to do tasks whose usefulness I don't totally grasp. And none of them has any follow-on posts. Which makes me suspect I am not alone in wondering what is this thing for?

So I'm requesting a Tutorial that puts forward possible scenarios in which someone might find MMC useful. In the end, maybe I won't find ... Read more

Hello Willy,

The MMC is mostly for use that cannot be done through the normal GUI and other MSCs (Group Policy, Security Policy, Local User and Groups, etc.....) . I'm not sure why there's not a shortcut to it in the Start Menu or Administrative Tools by default, but one could easily be created for it and added though.

Here are some tutorials for MMC to give an idea for some of what it can be used for.Microsoft Mangement Console - Create Custom MSC
Group Policy - Apply to a Specific User or Group
Local Group Policies - Apply to All Users Except Administrators

My Microsoft Management Console is not working and hasn't been working for the better part of five/six months.  I've undertook an endeavor to try to fix it and the deeper I dig, the more problems I seem to come across.  Now I'm computer savvy, but just on the surface, I haven't dug deep into the rabbit hole that is the command prompt and things like that and so that's why I'm here.

I've tried to do a system scan (sfc /scannow in the command prompt), and it gives me the message: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but what unable to fix some of them." Needless to say, it didn't fix the issue.  I went to check the CBS.log and that is just a whole bunch of jargon my uneducated mind cannot sift through.

So I browsed around forums and I tried to do a DISM-thing, and I get the message: "Service Pack Cleanup can't proceed: No service pack backup files were found.  The operation completed successfully."

I've done virus scans, I've done all I can think of without doing something stupid (or maybe I already have?).

... and yet the problem persisted.  So before I get into trying to do this myself, the hard/bad way, I come to you all.

Please help me fix this issue.

A:Microsoft Management Console

Open the Command Prompt and run it as an administrator, then copy and paste the following command and press Enter.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

This will place a new icon on the desktop titled sfcdetails.  Double click on this icon to
the CBS log, copy and paste the log in your topic.

DISM is used in Windows 8/8.1.

Hello Auld Bint Welcome to SF,

I guess its an issue with UAC. What you could do is Go to Start > under search type in MMC and Right Click and Run as administrator i believe that should open the console.

Hi Guys

Firstly I have tried to search the forums to find a solution to my problem but I keep getting php internal service error messages so I have started this thread.

My problem is that when I access the MS snap in via My Computer>right click>manage...I cannot access the disk management console.

Here is a screen shot of what I am seeing...

I have made sure that both the logical disk services are started in the services and applications snap in but this is not helping with my problem

I can however access disk defrag via C:\> properties> tools but not via the MMC snap in....

I also noticed that the message is asking me to open my firewall which to me looks suspicious as surely this service is within my computer/terminal and does not need to access an internet based application to function...Is this correct?

As per all advice is gratefully received..

I have three new servers, 2 x Dell PowerEdge and 1 x NEC. The NEC has a Travan backup tape drive and one Dell has a DDS4 tape drive. I use NTBackup on both these machines and Computer Management Console recognised the tapes and allows me to 'prepare' media for use with ntbackup.

The other Dell PowerEdge has a PowerVault 110T DLT1/VStape Drive (40/80Gb) installed and herein lies my problem. When in Computer Management Console the tape drive is recognised but when I put in a tape cartridge to 'prepare' it for use with ntbackup the media tape does not show in the right hand pane. I have followed exactly the same procedures adopted for the other two servers but this is baffling me.

I did have ArcServe installed (full version) but decided to use Ntbackup instead. I thus removed Arcserve from the system. Arcserve did recognise the media. Could something leftover from Arcserve be responsible for my current problem?

All three servers run Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3.

Thank you for your help.

When I try to Access the Management Control using the start button, right click mouse in my computer, it won't let me let me access it, it gives me the following error;

Windows can not find '(null)". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click start button and then search.

I don not know any other way to access the console, . How can i fix this problem?? Thank you for your help.

Have you tried going to Start> Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. It sounds like there's a corrupted file or a service is denying you access. You are the Administrator of windows? After trying the first scenario go to Start>Run and type services.msc and when the services window opens make sure Event Log, Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI), and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) are started and not disabled. Let us know how you make out.

Hello again,

This thread is in relation to the other thread that I had created not too long ago. Over the course of the weekend, I've experienced some trouble when I had attempted to open my "Device Manager" in Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. I opened under "System" in Windows 7, but it gives me a window that the MMC console has stopped working.

I've tried accessing through "Administrative Tools" under Control Panel. The problem remains the same. Therefore, I've tried reinstalling the entire operating system - but the problem remains the same. From my own research, the only way on preventing MMC from crashing is - disabling certain services and functions at startup (in this case, the "Themes" services). I've found out from one user (albeit running in a different operating system) who has a similar problem and it's all exhibited from these two links - here and here. I've followed that step and so far - all thing's are relatively stable.

I've also did an SFC (System File Checker) check in Windows 7, but they have failed to fix some of the problems relating to my issue.

To summarize, each time I wanted to access my hardware profile for my desktop system in Windows 7, the computer has kept crashing. I'm hinting that my hard drive is about to go bust any day now.

If you need any more information in regards to my hardware, please let me know. Also, what can I do to prevent MMC from crashing again in the future?

Is there a timeline for getting a compatible version of this software for Windows 8 Enterprise x64.  As an IT Professional, this is really getting in the way of my ability to enjoy your new OS.  I have work to do, and its not enjoyable
bouncing back and forth between OS's to get it done.  Other than this issue there is only minor annoyances, and I can be patient for resolutions.

Thank you,

A:Exchange Management Console Tools Compatibility

What version of Exchange are you using?  I have the Management Console for Exchange 2010 installed and running happily under Win8 Ent x64.  Installed from the Exchange dvd, patched to the same level as the server (that was a sticking point for
me initially, didn't realise the versions had to match exactly).
Running it via the following batch file, which I found in another thread somewhere.  Your short filenames may vary depending on what else you have installed, it's "Exchange Management Console.msc" you're looking for.
set __COMPAT_LAYER=RUNASINVOKER
set COMPLUS_Version=v2.0.50727
start C:\Progra~1\Microsoft\Exchan~1\V14\Bin\Exchan~1.msc

right, i can't get into mine, i get 'unable to connect to logical disk management console' and 'server execution failure' done some googling and it seemed diskeeper might be at fault, but i've uninstalled it and rebooted. done various other things, cleaned the registry etc, but still nothing. tried re-registering several dlls too, to no avail. also tried uninstalling my webcam as that particular model causes problems, did nothing. tried this - http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/132/1/ - nothing. i seem to remember that when this happened before i did a system restore, but every restore i've tried has failed. also, both the disk management services and the dcom service are started. i'm at a complete loss now.

and please please don't say 'reinstall xp', i'd like that to be a very last resort.
