I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm looking ofr others that might have the same motherboard and could offer some information. I currently have a M/B from Lucky Star (K7VAT, VIA KT-133 CHIPSET, ATX) with a 700mhz CPU. The manual they have on their website says I can go to a 1.2 mhz Thunderbird (based on their testing at the time of the printing). I am trying to find out if I can get a faster CPU like a 1.4mhz Thunderbird. 1.2 is fine, but if I can spend a few extra bucks for the 1.4, I might as well get that one..I just don't know if the board can handle it. I have written emails to the company on their website, both tech support and sales, but am not getting any answer... I think it's a language barrier thing..who knows...

does anyone else have a board similar to mine that could offer some info?

thanks!

A:Lucky Star M/B... Anyone else have one..?

You would never know the difference between a 1.2 and a 1.4 unless you were running benchmarks, and you could prolly overclock the 1.2 with proper cooling anyway.

A:Upgrade my Star Wars Hp

Here is the manual: Star Wars Edition Service Manual 8 gigs to 16 gigs is a go. Quote from the Manual: DDR3L-1600 Dual Channel Support Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following con?gurations ? 16384-MB total system memory (8192◊2) Memory module (DDR3L-1600): 8-GB 693374-005 https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_... For a 1 TB SSD I recommend a Samsung 850 Evo. OCZ also makes good ones as does Kingston. HP makes a Blu-Ray drive (see p. 27) but it is silver and not sure what color your laptop is. You can swap in a generic Blu-Ray reader or reader/burner using the existing caddy and faceplate. Post back if you need help with that.  Unfortunately the 4-cell is the only battery made for your laptop.  All of these upgrades will require removal of the back cover, which is not technically end user authorized. In other words it can jeopardize the warranty. It should be OK as long as no damage is done but you want to feel confident you can do it or find a technician who can. Yes, the RAM can be upgraded to 2X16 = 32 G.
The internal GPU cannot be upgraded - you'd need to buy an external Alienware graphics amplifier and use an external GPU to upgrade.

I'm upgrading a computer and I'm having difficulties with loading. I am replacing just the mother board, processor chip, and the ram chip. I am re-using the hard drives, cd/dvd drives, and everything else.

I've upgraded from:
an AMD chip to a P4 3.0e w/ HT
an unknown AMD mobo to a DFI PS85-BL ver B1 mobo

I will be using 512 mb ddr 400 pc3200 kingston ram

I already called DFI and they said that I need to unistall the system drivers. Of course, I tried uninstalling all device drivers and then shut down and rebuilt computer. When I booted, the computer asked for safe mode or boot normally. No matter what I select, it automatically reboots.

Any ideas, instructions, or definite fixes?

hello, ive had this desktop computer for years now and the processor is extremely outdated. I have been looking around trying to figure out how i can upgrade the processor speed but it seems the more i look up the less i know about computers...

anyways i have: Board: MICRO-STAR MS-7184
Serial Number: 5922655884

current proccessor: 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
256 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Not hyper-threaded

I believe the socket is a 939? when i looked up these specs i found that the highest processor i can place is " AMD Athlon 64 X2 (up to 4800+) and Sempron (up to 3200+) processors".

Can anyone verify this?Or is it not worth investing in a new processor? i am looking to find the best upgrade rather then spending cash to buy a new computer. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

A:Looking to upgrade processor, board Micro-Star MS-7184

Hey Noctis,

Truth be told you are better off upgrading your Motherboard, RAM, and Processor if you want to see any substantial difference. A socket 939 is quite a bit old and since then they have move onto the AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, etc sockets for AMD Mobos and Processors.

Socket 939 processors are to the point where they are no longer just old enough to be cheap. Since they are no longer made they are old enough to be more expensive than modern counterparts in many cases.

When upgrading the MOBO and CPU you want to look into more than just the processor speed. Important factors are also the types and amount of cache for a processor, number of cores, and RAM that can be used with that CPU.

The newer Athlon II X2s as an example are a significant leap from the original Athlon 64s and a discerning buyer online can find them significantly cheap. AM2+ boards are currently somewhat inexpensive and so is DDR2 RAM. They are currently at the stage where they are old enough to be somewhat cheap but with the newest socket and processors being sold by AMD now it may change iwthin the next few years to start getting expensive again from being old enough.

You also have the route of a AM3 with DDR2 or DDR3 Ram option available which are also moderately priced.

If you check out the website pricewatch.com you can look at pricing for several different mobos, cpus, etc from various websites easily. I just completed a full build including case, HDD, Mobo, CPU, DVD-R... Read more

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P61-S3 (rev. 2.0)

Ive managed to update/flash (its the same thing?) my bios from F5 to F7 version within an utility provided by motherboard manufacturer called @BIOS ( you can find it on the same support and download section ). I had 3 options to update: from server, file or drive and I choosed the 1st one. The latest F8 version is no longer BETA but I couldnt upgrade to it at least not from server and I think I really need this since its more than half an year ahead of the previous.

However I downloaded the F8 files from manufacturer page , unpacked them and I had 3 files : one windows BATCH file "autoexec"
one aplication "Efiflash" and the F8 file p62s3.f8( I guess I need to put it on a flash drive ) .While atempting to run the 1st one I got the unsupported 16-bit aplication, with Efiflash something similar " this app cant run on this pc" message from windows 8.
So should I put them on a flash drive and then from bios menu to enter Q-flash and select update from drive or maybe doing the same witht hat utility I mentioned above? I have a Sandisk cruzer blade 16 gb.Is this good for this operation?

A:Cant upgrade to the latest BIOS

efiflash is a DOS utility. You'd want to prepare a bootable DOS USB drive and run it from that.

I'm not familiar with Qflash, but if it's equivalent to Asus' EZ Flash, that would be the simpler way to do it. I wonder whether you'd need to add the right file extension to the actual BIOS file. (For most Asus boards, the extension is .rom, but for some it's .cap.)

I'd suggest that that you read the manual, but I don't see anything about BIOS updates in the downloadable version. Shame.

DIANAKD Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ... While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!If that is not bad enough, the Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine. This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Recovery-Manager-Blocked-After-Windo... At this point, the ONLY way to restore her prior OS is through something known as HP Recovery Media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. Okay here's the deal;
I have seven of these to set up for users here at work, and we have several applications that need to be preconfigured and standardized for users. Thus the boot into Audit Mode for setup and Sysprepping with "CopyProfile=True" in my xml file.

First two bombed and Microsoft Support has been no help. Their suggestion is that I return it to the point of purchase as defective. I'll skip the obvious rant and move on.

First symptom that reared its ugly head was that accounts that log in after the latest version update are flawed in that the Start Menu doesn't work and there's no context menu on icons in the taskbar. I haven't dug any deeper for symptoms.

Second symptom, which came up after a fresh image downloaded from Microsoft was freezing during SysPrep, but on this attempt I installed all the updates before I sysprepped instead of after.

The second Surface exhibited the same symptoms as the first. It was SysPrepped, then updated.

I know the short answer is either "don't upgrade" or "don't sysprep" but neither of those are viable options. I can (I think) block the upgrade from happening, but that's not really what I want to do. Not SysPrepping means I'm going to be holding a LOT of hands helping users configure their profiles and hunting down applications, not something I have time for.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated. Also, if I've missed something, just ask. I'll flag this thread for notificat... Read more

My Dell Inspiron 15R laptop is 6 years old.  It came with Windows 7 installed.  Service tag 4DHR1N1.

It was auto-upgraded to WIndows 10 when this first came out.
Since then all the Windows 10 upgrades have worked upgrades have worked OK - until yesterday.

Before this, there had been an unsuccessful attempt to load
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7 for Windows 10 Version 1607 and Windows Server 2016 for x64 (KB3186568)

The first time it tried to upgrade, when I powered up, it went straight to "Restoring your previous version of Windows"
- even though Update History reported the successful installation of
2017-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4025339)

It then asked me to schedule an update installation time.

Following this, when I attempted to start the laptop, I got the Windows logo and spinning dots for a few seconds - then my laptop shut down.  I noticed that the fan was putting out warmer air than usual.

This happened the following 4 times I attempted to reboot the laptop.  Screen live for a few seconds, then shut-down.

On the 6th attempt, I finally got the message "Restoring your previous version of Windows".  And my laptop is now working again.

2 days ago my husband was using the computer when a Windows upgrade popped up. He installed it. At the end of installation, a message said that Internet Explorer was not currently installed as default browser, and did we want to install it? We think he clicked No. (sorry to be vague about this). When we next tried to get onto the Web, we had a completely new home page, almost entirely blank. It does not respond to any commands; sometimes it actually freezes, but usually it is just so slow that essentially nothing happens, and it stops us using any other programmes. I noticed in task manager that it seems to be using a huge amount of memory. We can get into a workable version by going into Applications:System tools: Internet Explorer without add-ons, but we can't use any music programmes or run video/music clips. The three upgrades/patches we installed were Update for Windows XP KB904942, Hotfix for Windows XP KB914440 and Security update for Windows XP KB920213. Can anyone tell us what has happened, and what to do about it? Thanks very much, Angela

A:Problems with Internet explorer following latest WX upgrade

Hi Angela

Does the new IE icon have a golden orbit around a blue letter e? If so, it sounds like one of the updates may have been IE7. Something on your system might conflict with it, or perhaps something went wrong during the installation. You can try uninstalling the last three hotfixes, then reverting to IE6 SP1 - and see if things are better. If still problematic, try a System Restore using a restore point from just before you installed IE7.

Also run thorough scans for malware infections - these can slow your Internet dramatically. Depending on what the screen looked like, it could have been a malware "scam" or "Phishing" exploit that generated the official-looking window. If you find you have a serious infection, try the 5-Step Security Checklist --- http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...kthis-log.html

Also, if you revert to IE6, visit Windows Update again - manually - and make sure the patches are up-to-date.

Best of luck

Hi, everyone. I just installed the latest version of Firefox (3.something), and something strange happened: there's now a big, maybe 1/2 inch empty bar near the top of my windows, stuck in below the strip of bookmark things (those quick links you can drag onto a toolbar) and right above StumbleUpon, the one add-on I have. I attached a screenshot of the problem -- take a look. So far I've tried starting it up in safe mode and resetting my toolbars/extensions, but no luck. Any suggestions?

A:Weird blank strip with latest Firefox upgrade

Some of the themes that supposedly are OK with the new version are not working completely as they were I've found - maybe over the next couple of weeks new updates of the themes, extensions etc. will start coming thru and working properly

Just upgraded today and was getting a lot of BSOD at first. Once i got all updates installed they settled down abit but are still occurring just not as frequently. Most of the time its a different error that comes up. the latest one 0x00000133 didn't have anything come up under bug string check in BlueScreenView. Any help would be much appreciated. They happen randomly so as soon as i boot up some after 10-30 minutes. It will also freeze without giving a BSOD and having to be manually restarted.
the different BSOD codes are;INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

*sorry for the typo in the title

Remove all software from IObit & Slimdrivers and use a restore point prior the use of them.
If you've used IObit & slimdrivers software before you upgraded, I recommend to do a clean install and only get the drivers from legimate sources.
Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.

Current Lenovo firmware for the EM7455 is 02.20.03.22, however Sierra Wireless has a newer version, 2.24.05.06 listed here: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/minicard/74xx/airprime-em_mc74xx-approved-fw-pa... After flashing with the newer version and rebooting, the card reverts back to 2.20.03.22. Has anyone else experience this? Is this something the carrier would dictate and enforce? Any help would be appreciated. Reason for upgrading is, when traveling internationally the unit has spotty connectivity and not very reliable. Hoping firmware upgrade would be a step in the right direction to resolving it.

Built-in panel video is corrupted (vertical stripe down center that suggests panel failure).External monitor works fine. However, built-in panel works during boot for both BIOS and Windows 10 logo screen, and also works in Safe Mode. Additionally, the panel works fine after it comes out of sleep mode.Any time the video mode changes (e.g. by a resolution change, plugging in an external monitor, or starting the computer) the built-in panel will be garbled. Causing the system to sleep and unsleep (even immediately after startup) will correct the built-in panel video corruption.Driver installed by Windows 10 is: Intel(R) HD GraphicsDriver Date: 5/27/2015Driver Version: 9.17.10.4229I update a Vostro 360 Windows 7 system with the latest Intel HD Graphics driver, I will get the same behaviour, so it's almost certainly a driver issue. What confuses me is that no-one has mentioned a similar problem, and many have mentioned successful upgrades to Windows 10. Am I just unlucky with my systems, or is there some software variable that could mask (or create) the problem? On Windows 7, I can revert to an older driver to make the problem go away. I have been thinking about this for a little while. I'm running a pretty low-end machine now-a-days, it was a star a while back, but technology is changing so rapidly that I have no desire to shell out money by the buckets, to keep up. However, it's become a problem when I decide to play a new game that looks really good, only to find out, it sucks on my computer. So, the big question, upgrade or not to upgrade?

I currently have a Foxconn mobo, with a 1.85 GHz CPU, running 2.5GB DDR (Yes, DDR not DDR2) RAM. Nvidia GeForce 6200 AGP gfx card.

Upgrade Gfx card, or my whole Mobo? If anyone has any cheap but performance upgrades they can share with me, I'm happy to listen, as is, buying a new mobo, would cause me to buy new RAM, and a new gfx card, probably would upgrade CPU as well... Any pointers?

A:Mobo, to upgrade or not?

Look others may say your Mobo can do this or you just need to do that, or buy this one thing.

But you are best to buy the entire new computer box (with everything in it, including Windows key)
Then sell the old one, and recover some costs in doing so.

So therefore your Title would say, help me to purchase a new computer. To run these games or this certain program, or whatever that you want it to do

Hi,

Trying to do an XP upgrade from Win98. I do the compatability test and it will not let me continue to install the upgrade because it says my video card and MoBo are not compatible..

It's an older system..

I have a Nvidia geforce II MX 100/200 video card, I am running it on a AMD k6 400 processor

My MoBo is an Asus socket 7 with an Ali 1541 chipset. I have all of the appropriate Ali drivers.

I have just under 300 meg of ram.

If anyone can help with a fix or patch or whatever, I would appreciate it greatly.. Thanks..

A:XP upgrade and MOBO

This comes straight from the Windows catalog on Microsoft's website.

Microsoft's Windows Catalog

Your CPU is not compatible with XP.
Also looks like MoBo is incompatible.
The VidCard should be compatible.

And unfortunately, as far as I know, there are no patches or fixes to work with. Only option is to upgrade the hardware.

If anyone knows of anything, please feel free to correct me.

i have a :
845ebg2 intel 2.4
2*256 mb pc-2100 memory
bfg 6800 gt oc 256 mb video card (new part)
audio card: audigy 2
win xp sp1 as is (never figured out which proccessed are neccesery and which not)

ok, heres the thing, if i play on high levels (not the highest) i get choppines , now the old cpu isnt hellping of course but what i am asking is what difference will upgrading the memory from 512mb to 1gb or above do, will it help?

something i noticed in games is that of all things its the audio that preceeds the coppines, like the annoying orders in bf2 or the characters talking in half life : episode one.

will memory help alot or will it be an insignificant change.? what else can i do?

by the way: please no "just upgrade you cheap basterd...."

A:Old mobo-what can i upgrade?

The memmory will help alot, but that processor is your second bottleneck, but it's really not a bad system.

So to answer you're question yea, having more ram (up to 1gb) will help.

Make sure though it is the same brand and speed for compatibility.

By the way, if you know, how fast is the harddrive? That two could be you worst enemy and most people don't think twice about it (if once).

Ok Pc wouldn't start last week so I took it into the repair guy.

Repair guy just phoned and said that it looks like a power surge destroyed the PSU and took out the Motherboard at the same time. So I told him I'll take my Pc home and look at doing an upgrade over the next couple of weeks, buy the parts and bring it back to him to install it.

Ok so what I'm looking at the moment is buying a gigabyte s775 GA-Ep45T-UD3LR core 2 Motherboard for $120 Au and A Quad core Q9400 cpu $233 AU. I need to do this as cheap as possible and to me this looks like a good solution as everything else is working and should fit in my new motherboard.

If anyone can see any problems with this or a cheaper solution or even if I should get a newer motherboard, memory, CPU ect then let me know. The only thing I don't like is that I can't run multiple Graphics cards on this motherboard, which now seems to make the New Antec 1000 watts psu look like overkill.

If I go with this solution I will need in the future to get Windows 7 (I have xp pro now) so I can run more and faster memory in the Motherboard. But even with a quad core cpu I should be able to run FSX fairly well anyway...hopefully

Ok I have just noticed that My old 800MHZ ram is DDR 2...that's not going to run in the new mobo is it??

Any suggetstions welcome

Hi,

I want to upgrade my Dad's Fujitsu 450Mhz Pentium (Slot 1) to something around 1Ghz. He wants to spend under £100.

I've looked at CPU upgrade kits for around £70 which seem simple to install. But would it be better to upgrade the whole motherboard along with a new CPU?

Would the old existing hardware still work after the new motherboard is installed?

All advice welcomed!
Thanks

Hello everyone, looking for a new CPU and Motherboard in the $250-$300 range.
I'm an extensive gamer, but also use my computer for school work.
I am currently running:
3.2 gHz Intel Pentium 4 540
2 Gig DDR2 RAM
9800GT 1024Mb
Onboard Sound

Right now I'm just looking for a few answers. I am running a fast single core processor, would a dual core or quad core processor, which are slower, benefit me in game? Would spending $250-$300 be worth it, or would I need to spend more before I see performance improvements?

Thank you for your help.

Your advice please:Am running WIN98SE (after formatting, partitioning). HD is only 8.4GB, but after 3 years of hard use still have roughly 5GB free. ( Am a software junky but store most appys on CDRs and ZIPs.
I am not a gamer. Computer is Packard Bell multimedia, AMD-K6-2,3DNOW,model 955. I've changed CDROM to 52X and installed a good burner(both less than 6 months ago). All in all, (using DSL), am well pleased with system. However, I've been thinking of upgrading by changing to maybe 40GB HD, and new MOBO. I can get the ASUS A7V133 raid mobo w/VIAKT133A chipset w/Socket A interface, AND 1.2GB AMD Athlon processor for $169 + tax. Will I also have to upgrade power supply( don't have specs on present one)? Your thoughts please. Thanks, again.

A:MOBO/HD Upgrade

Old adage . . ."If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

More than likely, the K6 is using 2 or 4 clock dimms, or possibly 66 MHZ dimms. Your new board will require new memory, as your existing RAM will be too slow.

You will more than likely need a new powewr supply as Athlones like to suck the juise. Recommended minimum is 250 - 300 Watts. An additional fan or 2 for the hot Athlones would also be necessary.

If your also asking on whether or not you should go for the upgrade, I will only ask you this . . .

Do you need it?

Mobo upgrade, I'm so miserable

I currently have a Dell Dimension 3000 and I realize it sucks nutz. No AGP or nothin, just PCI. 1 year ago I knew nothing of graphics cards and I used my Christmas money to buy a Graphics card. The problem was that I bought an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GPU based Graphics card and went home finding out that I needed a PCI-express slot. So I returned it the next day and asked the Best Buy dude to give me that best PCI Bus based Graphics card, I got a crappy GeForce 6200. So now I'm know a bunch about Graphics cards and there slots and thinking of upgrading my motherboard. But I don't think there's a mobo that could fit the case. Bottom line:
Can I upgrade?
If I can, what's the best to upgrade?

Specs:
WinXP home
512 physical ram
Intel Pentium 4 2.79Ghz
256mb nvidia geforce 6200 gpu graphics card
35 GB HDD

Thanks

A:Mobo upgrade

There's currently a similar thread up on upgrading computers...

Your case is slightly different tho, but there's a good list of 478 mobos with PCIe x16.

The thread is here...
http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthread.php?p=410960#post410960

... but the mobo that was recommended by vnf4ultra is here:
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....iteria=BA23565

The GeForce 7300 is considered a pretty low end card, so the other issues discussed probably would not be a problem for you.

It'd help if you'd list the specs in your computer at the moment. The specs I can dig from google shows that a good RAM upgrade is desperately needed. 256mb is just not adequate today.

Right now I just plan to upgrade the gpu to a GTX 550 ti and add more RAM for gaming.

A:When to upgrade Mobo?

People normally upgrade the motherboard when they want to upgrade their CPU, so I'd wait for that.

If you just want to upgrade your graphics card and RAM, you should keep your current motherboard.
