Q: Satellite L350 - built in microphone is not working after Win8 upgrade

Hi people,

i have the above problem since i upgraded Vista to windows 8. my soundcard seemsto work ok. My webcam is also working. i made sure i chose the right microphone on the control panel etc. so theoretically there is no reason why it shouldnt work.. but its not working.

im guessing it has to do with my laptop being quite old, hence no compatible drivers ? i have a Satellite L350.

what should i do?
simly buy a headset?

best!,

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I can understand that you want to use newest OS on this old piece of hardware but it can be problematic to use it if the certain notebook model is not fully supported.

I think you are the first one who has reported about this issue. Unfortunately I cannot help you with this but if possible ask some friend if you can get headset and test audio out and mic ports.
It will be interesting to know if you will be able to use mic on headset.

Please post some feedback.

Hello There,

Sorry to bother you it's just I recently purchased a software called (Dragon Home 13) which has installed just fine, the issue I face currently is that my new headset (non USB) microphone is not working, I'm using a Philips headset and it allows me to listen to sounds via YouTube, however, when looking via: sound/mixer it does not show:

Information:

My Toshiba model: C75-A-10P -=> http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinue...ite-c75-a-10p/

I have looked inside the sound/default devices and it just shows the built in camera microphone, I can not find the new purchased one anywhere.

Thanks

Good evening everyone,

I recently upgraded my HP Touchsmart IQ500 from Vista Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. Aside from the lack of a media center or otherwise out-of-the-box-inability for DVD playback I've been enjoying the change. I solved the DVD problem with VLC, but I cannot figure out how to get my microphone to work now. It was fine before the upgrade, and now there's just silence when trying to Skype or record otherwise.

I've read a few articles that suggest updating the drivers in the Device Manager which I have tried, only to get a message that reads:

Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.

Any help with this would be great. We've got family across the country and friends overseas that we keep up with via Skype and this is becoming quite the headache. Thanks in advance.

A:Built-In Microphone Not Working after Upgrade

Windows lies sometimes...

that being said, right click your speaker icon in the system tray

choose recording devices

Does it show a microphone with a green check mark under it?

Or does it say no audio devices are installed?

If it says no audio devices are installed then right click anywhere in that box and select show disabled devices

If the microphone shows up now but says disabled under it, then right click the microphone and select enable.

If this doesnt work then we'll look at your drivers.

Hi,

Has anyone upgraded their Satellite L350-10L hard drive to an SSD and if so, have you noticed any difference, and the big question, was it easy ????

Thanks
Chris

A:Hard drive upgrade on Satellite L350-10L

Hello Chris

Long time ago I had Satellite L300 and this series is known to me.
At this time I didn?t even think about such upgrade.
Older Satellite notebooks from series L are low budget machines and the hardware configuration is not the best one.
With other words they are designed for everyday activities. I can understand that you probably want to increase hardware performance but my personal opinion is that SSD is not the best solution. In my opinion you should not spend a lot of money for upgrades. Memory upgrade to maximum and that?s it.

What do you think about all this?

I have a satellite L350-21Q and while loving it as a machine in most ways I feel that it would have benefited greatly from a larger hard drive. With this in mind I began looking for a suitable replacement and found a drive that is 1TB in size and uses SATA 3.0 connection.

I am unsure whether the machine will support the drive and so I look to you guys for help. Does anyone know whether the drive will work with the machine or are the two incompatible. If the latter is true could anybody advise me which SATA type will work and what the maximum capacity for hard drive space is please?

Thanks in advance :-)

A:Satellite L350-21Q - Hard drive upgrade

Unfortunately Toshiba doesn't provide some precise info about compatible and tested HDDs.
In my opinion you should not notice some problems with such HDD. Important is that you use HDD with SATA connector.

You can order new HDD, test it and if something is not working as you want to send it simply back.
As we don't have some precise info about such upgrade your feedback is welcome.

Hi I have a Toshiba Satellite L350 Laptop with Windows XP Professional. I have no idea if I am in the right category but here is my issue. I can not activate any of my function keys. This is very problematic because the function key turns on the switch for the laptops WIFI, I can not connect to the internet through WIFI without it. According to the Toshiba forums it is a driver issue related to the TVAP (Toshiba Value Added Package). I have tried downloading the drivers from Toshiba's sight but none seem to open correctly. I think I need to delete the TVAP currently on my laptop but have no idea how to do this. Again my guesses above are summations from 4 hours of reading forums from other sights. I honestly have no idea what is wrong and inherited this laptop from a family member 2 days ago, in an attempt to allow me to work from home to help me with meeting a deadline for work. Anyone familiar with this issue your help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently updated my Satellite S50t-B from 8.1 to 10 and have found that the microphone is not functioning. I does not seem to be picking up any sound. Removed and reinstalled the Conexant HD Audio Drivers and ran the Windows troubleshooter. Have installed all Windows updates and the updates on Toshiba Service Station and updated all the Toshiba software and drivers I could. The microphone shows as being installed correctly but no sound is picked up when I try to configure a recording device or if recording video via Webcam app. Not sure what to do now? Is there a Windows 10 version of the Conexant Audio Driver?

Hello.

I'm having a bit of a problem after I reset a Toshiba Satellite C55D-A-13T computer and upgraded it to windows 10. I reinstalled all the software from the Windows 10 upgrade Toshiba page and everything appears to work except the internal microphone. It doesn't appear to register any sound. It worked before, with windows 8.1 installed.

I tried another external microphone and that work fine. I tried reinstalling the IDT sound drivers and uninstalled DTS sound and Toshiba audio enhancements. I tried different audio levels and boost levels. The newest BIOS is installed. I tried using microsoft HD audio drivers but always with the same result, the green bar doesn't budge in recording devices.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work.

The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem. I can't seem to find a better driver though.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Most likely the device is faulty.

The only way to rule out a software/driver glitch would be a fresh install of the OS. But that's not likely.

I bought my Envy about a month ago but haven't had any occasion to use the microphone. Today I tried and it's not working at all - on Skype or in Windows Voice Recorder. I've been through the HP document (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03421813) multiple times and it doesn't help. The weirdest thing is that when I play sound on the laptop, it does get picked up on recording - even if I mute the speakers. So it seems like the 'external' microphone just isn't switched on, somehow. But in Control Panel > Sound > Recording it's definitely the 'Microphone Array' that's enabled and set to default. So I'm very confused about what's going on, but it's pretty inconvenient!

I have a dell inspiron 1520 that runs Windows Vista Home premium. I had to reformat the hard drive about a week ago and it caused a lot of my built in hardware to stop working. One of the devices that stopped working was the built in microphone. I have tried right clicking in the recording devices window and showing disabled and disconnected devices, but it does not work. Is there a way for me to recover or download the program that I need to use the microphone again?

EDIT: Also having the same problem with my wi-fi catcher.

A:Built-in Microphone not Working

HI. Whats the make of your Soundcard? Find that out and then go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers for your card. Dunno if Dell themselves have the drivers on their website. Might be an idea to check first.
Alternatively, you should have been supplied with a setup CD with the drivers on (hopefully). Install them from that.
Once installed configure as normal via the sound control panel.

The built-in microphone on my computer is not working. I just recently got this computer from a friend and had it formatted to Windows 8 (it's a Toshiba). I went to 'Set up microphone', and when it asked me to test the mic, it wouldn't work. It would not pick up any sound. Then, I looked to see if it was either disabled, dysfunctional (according to the system), or maybe if it was outdated and needed an update. Not only was it enabled, but according to the system, it was also "working properly" and "up to date". What more can I do to get it to work ? I cannot afford to get a new one. PLEASE HELP !

Welcome to TSF,

Go to your computer's Device Manager (right click My Computer, select Manage, locate Device Manager) find the devices in question and see if there are any symbols (? I have downloaded W8 and tried to upgrade over Vista home premium. At the end of the installation there was an error message that Windows installation was not successful, and that the previous version of Windows was being restored.

The machine is a Satellite M100,series PSMAAA-026007, with CPU T2350.
When the Windows 8 upgrade assistant was run, part of the report was that NX was not turned on, and that setup will attempt to turn it on during installation. It is presumed that in this it was unsuccessful.
I had previously downloaded and installed the latest BIOS update for this laptop that I could find.

If the failed installation is due to not having NX because the CPU/BIOS does not support NX, is it possible to install another CPU which will.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there!

I have recently purchased Toshiba Tecra Z50-A-181 laptop that came with Windows 7 64 bit (have 8.1, too but never installed it).

Anyways, once I started using it, I have discovered that the built in microphone is not working or not recognized at all.
So, what happens is that, once I plug in my headphones into the combined audio/mic jack, whoever I am talking to (on skype, let's say) stops hearing me (and my camera is turned on).

I have tried several things mentioned in other topics, however, the problem does not go off. Moreover, there is no driver for the camera or the built in microphone, or whatever.

In the device manager there is no additional device, not recognized and in the sound/recording options, no other microphone to use is shown.

I will appreciate it if anybody can help.
Thank you in advance!

Do you have problem using external microphone only?
Your notebook is preinstalled with original recovery image so all necessary drivers should be installed.

Hello. I have recently encountered some kind of a problem with a built in microphone in my notebook. It was working just fine for a long time and today suddenly stopped when i restarted my teamspeak client. I tried basic stuff like reinstalling audio drivers, messing around with microphone/recording settings etc. To give some more insight into this specific issue:- I have windows 10- when I go into sound settings/recording tab where recording devieces should be listed there are two of them: microphone and some mix stereo (this one is turned off), both from Realtek High Definition Audio- the green volume bar near microphone icon in mentioned window is not responding to anything- when I try to start windows built in "set up microphone" feature after i pass the "detecting problems" screen and choose "configure microphone" field I get message saying "The Wizard could not start. Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devieces and Sound Themes control panel." And then the whole process is being aborted.- I tried restoring system to one of saved restore points but apparently I can't do it as after computer restart I get the message which tells me the process failed because system could not have accessed some file (it says antivirus may be blocking it) Any tips on this subject are welcome.

Hello everybody, I have two problems and both are related to audio recording1) The built-in microphone is not working. I have noticed that this is a very common issue. However, I haven't found a solution that works for me. I have checked that it is the predetermined deviceI have checked that the microphone is not mutedI have downloaded the most recent drivers and restarted my PC, and then I have tried downloading old ones and restarting again. Didn't work. What else should I try? 2) Now, I bought an external microphone because I really need to use Skype on my laptop and I was tired of trying to solve the previous problem. What I found is that the combo jack plug does not work when I plug in a microphone, even if it works when I plug in a speaker. Interestingly, the laptop thinks it is a speaker as the built-in speaker stops working when I plug in the microphone. Some previous topic gave the solution of bending up a little bit a tiny metallic piece in the jack connection of the laptop, but I have not been able to make that work. This is really annoying. I need to use a microphone, I don't care which one. Please, avoid telling me to download drivers, because that's not it. Thanks for reading.

After not using my Toshiba PRO L350 15T for a long time I cleaned it, did a restore from the original cd's and it works like a charm.

Now I will install windows 10 from an original windows 10 dvd but it hangs during setup. Weird screeen with stripes. I tried it from a USB stick, same result.

Question, isn't it possible to run windows 10 on the Toshiba PRO L350 15T??
What to do?

Hope for a quick positive answer

Thanks in advance!

Good Morning

I have the following problem. I own a Satellite L350-172. The notebook has always worked flawlessly. Now it is so that when I connect a power adapter, the notebook turns off after a short time and restarts. This happens with battery and without battery. A power supply exchange has also brought no success. The funny thing is the battery is charging and when it is full, I have to disconnect the power supply and I can quite normal to work with the notebook. As soon as I plug in a power adapter, the problem is immediately there again. Maybe someone has a solution to this problem ...?

Kind regards
xxMagic01xx

Hi guys, been a while. I hope you can help!

I have a Satellite L350-210, it is about a year old and running Vista HP.

Out of the blue, the touchpad stopped responding. I have tried enabling/disabling it using the FN + F9 key, updated the drivers, nothing. So then I uninstalled the drivers altogether, and reinstalled them using the ones listed on the official synaptics site, and the one on the toshiba site, nothing. Uninstalled again, and let the laptop find the drivers. Nada.

I went to the device list and the Synaptics device isn't even listed under mouse and pointers where it usually is. The only evidence it even exists is it still seems that it is listed as a startup program and when going to the mouse menu in the control panel, there is a seperate tab with the synaptics logo on it, although nothing in the tab is clickable. Everything is grayed out no mention of touchpad at all.

Does anyone have a clue? I would be most grateful for any help!

A:Satellite L350-210 touchpad not recognized

You could try, in device manager, right-click on 'Mice and other pointing devices', choose 'uninstall'. Then re-boot. Windows should discover the touchpad again. I was asked to look at an Acer Aspire which had the same problem. I think I would lift up the keyboard, see if it's possible to find the plug from the touchpad to the motherboard. Unplug it. Re-boot windows. Shut down. Plug it back in, re-boot Laptop and if all is well it should force windows to find it again and install the drivers.

When I switch on my laptop it gets as far as the Toshiba innovation screen with the options to go into F2 or F12 and then the screen goes black with a cursor at the top right hand corner. After a few seconds the cursor goes away and the screen remains black and goes no further. I can get into the BIOS. If i boot up with a recovery disk in the CD drive I can get back into the laptop and into Windows, etc. and it works just fine. Running checks finds nothing. As soon as I reboot the laptop I am back to square one. I have tried reseating the hard drive and also reloaded everything using the Toshiba HDD Recovery option, but am at a loss to know what else to try.

Any help would be appreciated otherwise i am looking at having to buy a new laptop and they just don't make these nice big screen ones now.

Many thanks.

Apologies the thread should read that the cursor is on the top left hand corner, not the top right hand one.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L350-20N.
I was using it about a week ago and it was working perfectly, everything fine hard drive and all.
Then the next day I tried to power it on, I can hear the fan running and it trying to boot up from disc. But the screen doesn't power on.

I've tried the hard reboot taking out the battery thing.
I've also checked that the RAM is fine.
I've also tried hooking it up to an external monitor but it doesn't come up with anything.

What is wrong with my laptop?

P.S. I need it working soon as I am starting senior education.

Thanks in advance!

Motherboard problem? Maybe CPU or faulty GPU?
Who knows?

Did you this?
Remove battery, disconnect AC adaptor, press and hold power button 30sec long.
Now connect battery and ac adaptor and try to power up?
If it does not help, your hardware has an serious problem
