OLEDs & X1 Yoga 2nd Gen - State Attorneys General?

Q: OLEDs & X1 Yoga 2nd Gen - State Attorneys General?

My Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED laptop is recently out of warranty and an intermittent problem that began some months before the warranty ran out is now a consistent one. The screen does not display the Lenovo logo on boot but just has bands of multicolored static across the screen - exactly like the problem another user describes in this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/3Fg764UIJUo On checking around the web and in many fora (including this one), this seems to be a pretty systemic problem with their OLED displays. Has anyone been in touch with their State Attorney General office about the problem? I will contact Lenovo tech support to get a quote but this seems like something Lenovo should recall and fix.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am 82 years old & my first computer was a Tandy Radio Shack TRS 80! It was great! It had 2-5 1/4 floppy drives. Input was with a cassette recorder. ThE OS was "Basic". I was King of all input & output! No virsus, Bloatware, only bugs that were mine & I had to sort them out! I wrote great programs in the "Spaghette" language. Very important programs!!
Now we are at apoint where every body is trying to "Hack", "Pop Up" you, give you a "Virus" Sell you Vagra, Penus enhancement, & porn sites.
I dare not "download anything" Even if you pay for it, in fear it will not do what you were told it would do or not install because of a conflict with other software.
Case in point, The Adobe "Cannot Open File %APPDATA%. The old 1606 error that everybody knows about & nobody fixes it.
I BOUGHT McAfee Anti Virus software. The software program is excellant, here comes "the sting in the tail". It also includes "McAffe Online Backup".
Of course It installed automatically. I filled out what was to be backed up & when.

Very shortly I received an error "You Quota has been exceeded !"
What quota!! What program created the error! Not a clue!

Finally I deduced that it was the McAffe online backup. I clicked on the Online Backup Icon & it went to a website That stated "You have exceeded your quota" please increse your quota to xxxgb for $95." Or something like... Read more

Hello,This is probably a very simplistic question to all you techies out there :-) I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 14iSK, 3 years old and which has just stopped working due to a Motherboard issue. I was looking online and was thinking it would be good if I could somehow buy a cheaper Yoga, say a 310 (Intel Celeron) with a lower spec and then use the existing SDD and RAM (CPU?) in it or, is the architecture going to be too tightly bound to the 310? Thanks

A:General query about using parts from one Yoga in another

Welcome to the forum.

What you're asking is possible in principle, however, it may not work out in practice. For example:

1. RAM in many systems these days is soldered to the motherboard. If this is the case in either the Y700 or the Y310 then you're out of luck.
2. Even if you can physically move the RAM it must be of the same type and speed.
(The Y700 DDR3L RAM while the Y310 uses DDR4, so it won't work.)

3. You may be able to move the SSD providing it's the same physical type.
(Some Y700 models came with 2.5" SSDs. The Y310 has a drive bay for this type of drive. So if the Y310 has only a HDD in that bay you could upgrade it to an SSD from the Y700.)

Of course if the Y310 has a slower processor and only 4GB of RAM then even with an SSD it may not run as fast as the Y700 with a new motherboard. Perhaps replacing the motherboard on the Y700 with a second-hand motherboard from eBay, etc. would be a better option.

The lab in israel thought replacing the screen will do the trick but it didnt. i fixed it without their help a few weeks after when one of your tech support uploaded a fix file for the problem. then, a few months ago the laptop started shuting down for no apperent reason. i sent it back to lab and the thought replacing the motherbored and my charger will fix the problem. but i still experience these shutdowns today. by now my warrenty is gone, so i doubt if calling your support in israel will help me in any way, so i hope maybe this messge will help.

Hope you all enjoyed the holidays!TLDR: How do I restore my Lenovo Yoga 2 11 (S/N: YB04152506 | MTM: 59417913) to it's original factory state (Windows 8.1 64-bit with preloaded drivers and Lenovo's bloatware, as well as the original BIOS version that came with this laptop)? I don't have the recovery partition or any recovery media, and the warranty has expired. Please help!Anyway, my Yoga 2 11 has been giving me trouble ever since the dreaded Windows 10 upgrade installed about 6 months ago and now I just need to roll everything back to the way it was when I got it from the store. Here me out: Basically everything was working well with Windows 8.1, but with Windows 10, I've been experiencing various issues. For example, sleep mode doesn't work properly, my battery life was cut in half, the tablet mode doesn't work well, my wifi frequently disconnects aswell as my wireless printer, and the overall the laptop runs slower. So I thought to myself this must be a driver issue, since after all, my laptop is listed on Lenovo's "Windows 10 supported devices". Well I dowloaded all of the Lenovo Windows 10 drivers from my laptop's support page but too bad I couldn't install any of them because they were so bad that the installer wouldn't run no matter what I tried. Then I thought perhaps these issues have something to do with BIOS, so I downloaded the latest version and it updated with no problems. Except all the update did was add another issue, which is that everytime I try to res... Read more

This would be a better question for the provider of the driver (STMicroelectronics).  The version of the driver looks to me like one that only runs under windows 10 (st_accel.sys v. 2.2.2.21).  I would guess that they would use the new API because it is much easier to code, but it is just a guess

I purchased a Yoga 300 less than a week ago and ever since purchase it has been running laggily. It was a display model (I realise this may be part of the reason it lags); however I have had particular trouble with my trackpad. Every time I tried to scroll with two fingers, it would jerkily try to catch up, and beeped loudly. I downloaded the new Windows 10 driver to fix this issue, only now it only scrolls when it decides to, and slowly at that! Currently I can only scroll by using the cursor on the screen, or with the arrow keys (which is also laggy). I have tried to access the additional mouse options via Settings, but it comes up with an error message saying "Windows can't access the specified device, path or file".Please help!

Hi guys, I am opening this post because I think that it could be useful to everyone who would like to solve several issues related to this laptop. I think that it is a really good notebook but it needs a lot of work to have it working in a proper way.So first of all I am posting here a link of a doc in which I am monitoring several issues I encountered and how I solved them. I know that it is not very easy to read it because its style is personal notes-like but I am sharing it anyone...probably someone can find the information it needs.Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 80JH monitoring doc

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

One week ago I had a problem with my laptop where the touchscreen and the touchpad were not working so I sent it to the repair shop. They updated it to the newest Windows (1903) and said they updated all the drivers. It fixed the original problem but it caused a new one - I keep getting the "Driver Power State Failure" BSOD. I contacted the repair shop and it looks like they don't care since I already payed them and as far as they're concerned, the problem is not caused by their actions. Here's how the BSOD occurs: when I close my laptop lid to put the computer to sleep and open it back up, the BSOD with said error pops up. Never happens any other way, only when its woken from sleep. Also, the BSOD only kicks in when I actually press a button after opening the lid. If I just opened the lid I can still move my mouse around without it crashing, but as soon as I click something it crashes. I've looked online and none of the solutions proposed work. All my drivers are up to date and working properly according to Device Manager, both Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage say I have the latest updates. I've uploaded the latest minidump here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/s0zzu2w6ujd4zsr/090319-7265-01.dmp?dl=0), I'm hoping some of you can read it and tell me where the problem lies and how could I find a solution. Thanks in advance!

This may be a one off, but I thought I'd report it just in case anyone else comes across it. Scenario - Disabled wifi, logged off, closed laptop- Got to work, connected X1Y3 to TB3 dock (connected to ethernet, iPhone connected to TB3 dock)- Pressed key on attached USB keyboard to wake the laptop, logged in From that point on the fan would basically not come on, the CPU refused to go above 2GHz, and when launching a bunch of 'apps' the CPU would throttle down to as low as 0.5GHz, while CPU utilization wouldn't go above ~25%. That way the system kept the CPU temperatures below 65C seemingly without using the fan. I wasn't able to see any settings in Windows power settings or in the Vantage app where I could adjust this behavior.  Needless to say performance was terrible. A reboot fixed this. It kind of looks like the X1Y3 got stuck in the "on battery power" plan, not sure how this could have happened. Any suggestions on where to find the settings corresponding to this incredibly conservative power plan? Or is there a chance this was not a power plan but rather a case of 'the fan didn't work'?  Preliminary theory: maybe the fact that the iPhone was on the TB3 dock plays a role here, since charging the iPhone draws significant power. I wonder if the X1Y3 can be tricked into thinking that it's on battery power when the TB3 dock can't deliver sufficient power on wake. This might explain getting stuck in the 'battery mode' if subsequently the ... Read more

A few weeks ago I began starting to have to log in with password twice to enter hotmail. Didnt think much of it when it started.

Last friday, my internet explorer was taken over by an anti-virus page saying I was infected and to download this cleaner - it appeared to be a MS look alike so I didnt download but it had reset my home page to "about-blank" and each time I opened IE the same page opened.

I tried AVG but it didnt clear the problem and it has been a long time since I have had a problem I dont really know where to start.

I did try to down load and run some of the packages noted in this forum but am really at a loss where to start to clean up the machine.

I did remember that it may help if I reverted to a previous system point and did this. This has solved the IE problem but since I have not cleaned the system i assume that the bug it is still there and I would like to get it cleaned out.

Can you suggest the best method and programs to use to clean the computer up.

I am reasonably computer literate but not on new things or ones that I dont really understand like this...... hard for old dogs to learn new tricks.

I am running on Windows XP with service pack 3 installed.

The computer is a Dell Dimension E521 Athlon 64 desktop.

I will tell you the same thing I did before. Private network, maybe but expensive and requires lots of work.

You can however share files, and even control the other computers using an app called team viewer.

Hope this helps

I am looking for a new laptop. I currently have a X121e and recall it being extremely easy to configure on Lenovo's site. So I decided to look at the X270. However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Following some discussion, I gather this has nothing to do with any kind of pointing device, but affects my HDD/SSD choices. OK, so let's see what the PCIe choices give me. I get 5 'first hard drive' options. (Nothing I do gets me a 'second hard drive' option, so not sure about this. Or rather, I almost understand this now I've read the platform specification, the user manual, the hardware maintenance manual and various posts on Reddit. Lenovo do like to make buying a challenge!) Now, however, I've reached the end of my google-fu. Intel 256 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe256 GB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 - CapableIntel 512 GB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMe512 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.01 TB Solid State Drive OPAL2.0 PCIe-NVMeI understand the difference beween 1/2 and 3/4 and 5 is obviously size. Like stated in the description. the Lenovo Yoga Control Service require 3% out of the CPU, all the time. and the only thing the service does is checking the orientation of the screen, and disable keyboard and mouse when flipped. I own a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga (1st gen as a Yoga; 4th gen as a Carbon), Product 20FQCTO1WW. Starting two days ago, it randomly reboots. The event log shows that it has had an unexpected reboot ("The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."), but reading the events leading up to the reboot doesn't give me much of a clue as to why. The only interesting events are messages that a core of the CPU is being throttled ("The speed of processor X in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."). I took the bottom cover off and agressively blew compressed air in every crevice. This did remove some dust buildup, but the system wasn't as dirty as I expected. In fact, it looked pretty clean. I also vaccuumed. And I removed the fan and thermal heatsink and throughly blew compressed air through it and made sure that there was no gunk clogging the heatsink air fins. After reassembling, it seems to be slightly more stable, but it has still rebooted a few times. There are lots of threads where people complain about fan noise and ask how they can reduce the speed of their fan. I'd like to run mine at max 100% of the time (noise be darned) for a few days just to see if that keeps the system from randomly rebooting. However, I don't know of a sofware setting where I can control... Read more

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Whenever an account is left logged on and the user is switched as opposed to logging off, the cpu usage ramps up very high with several RUNDLL32 processes being the culprit. The problems comes back when again more than one user is logged in. Also, the rundll32 processes only run high cpu on one account at a time and there doesn't seem to be a preference for a specific account, all of them are plagued one at a time with the problem. Disabling the Yoga Mode Control service is a fix but that breaks the mode control which is essential in this laptop. I have tried installing all the available software on the Software page foor the YOGA 700. I recently did a Windows 10 update to my Lenovo Yoge Ideapad  11 S on July 16th and now my touch screen does not work. When I check the drivers for my monitor and touch screen I noticed the driver was missing. I cannot get Lenovo or Microsoft to fix this. What else can I do to get that driver back ?

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello my 8 month old yoga mic was working fine until the driver was auto updated, i believe through windows update and now the yoga cannot hear me at all.  I uninstalled the Realtek driver and installed the Microsoft HD drivers under Sound, video and game controllers with no change.   My yoga was also updated to Win 10, ver 1809 at this time, which i hear is buggy.  I also installed the latest Realtek drivers from Lenovo and that did not fix the problem either. I turned off Beam forming in the Realtek HD manager and that did not make a difference either!! Please Help,, this is so frustrating!!!!!

Hi,      I bought my Lenovo YOGA 530-14IKB 3 months back, it worked fine, but I started to notice that bottom right quarter of the touch screen is not working, It is working when screen is at exact 90 degrees in laptop mode but when I tilt the screen back by some 10-15 degrees the bottom right part of the touch screen is not working. The lenovo pen is working fine on this section of screen. Facing same issue in tablet mode also. I don't think this is software issue, maybe the connection at the  hinge got screwed up. The laptop is still under warranty. All the Drivers are up to date. Can I get a replacement if I go to service center or is this a software issue which can be solved ?

My brand new Yoga 720 is seriously bent (one corner is up by 3 mms). I have sent back immediately to offical Lenovo service. They sent it back with a report that it is fully operable. Since then, I have a wedge in my notebook case and all I have to do is put it under my notebook if I use it. Now I know which brand not to buy next time.

Hello!I am trying to find out if DisplayPort is supported on the following two models: - Yoga 710-14IKB (80V4003LMX)- Yoga 900S-12ISK (80ML000RMX) I need to drive UHD TVs (4K at 60fps) and various high resolution displays using DisplayPort (HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K at low refresh rates).  It seems to be difficult find out looking through the documentation provided by Lenovo. I have come across some info though: Yoga 710-14IKB:The documentation on  http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/yoga/700-series/yoga-710-14/#80V4000GUS under "Ports" states that: "Micro HDMI?""DisplayPort? (combo with HDMI?)" This indeed seems to indicate that DisplayPort is supported, but I cannot find any info on how this works. - Is DisplayPort supported by the Yoga 710?- If so, what kind of adapter is needed, and where can this be found? Yoga 900S-12ISK:This machine has an USB-C "USB 3.0 port with Video-out". I have found a Lenovo USB-C to HDMI Adaptor-NA (GX90K37871):    https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter-external-video-adapter/specs/but so far I have not seen any USB-C to DisplayPort adapter from Lenovo. When an USB-C port has video capabilities, it is usually DisplayPort available (I have seen reviews of Yoga 900S that this actually is the case for the Yoga 900S. - Is DisplayPort supported by the Yoga 900s?- If so, what kind of adapter is needed, and where can this be found?&n... Hi, I noticed that when I took the laptops out from a computer bag and immediately flipped them over into a tablet, the login screen showed up with a prompt to enter the password. However, virtual keyboard did not show up. I had to turn the laptps to laptop mode, entered the password and then flipped them back to tablet for the machines to function. This has happened to both my Yoga 730 15" 4K and Yoga C930 4K. Why? Perhaps it is not the virtual keyboard not showing up but the touch screens did not respond? Is this a common issue for the Yoga line?

Hey. I bought my Yoga 520-14IKB (Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256gb NVMe SSD, GeForce 940MX) 2 month ago, had no problems, till last week. Now sometimes i experience such a strange behaviour. Mainly i work on my laptop in normal mode, and sometimes, during such work, it can false trigger a tablet mode for a few (2-3) seconds (notification appers), which causes the keyboard to switch off for this time, despite the fact, that it still stands as a normal laptop, not even close to position, which triggers the yoga mode. How can i fix this? System is Windows 10 April 2018 Update, have all the latest drivers and latest version of BIOS.

Hello all, Got my X1Y3 in a few days ago and I'm very pleased with the screen on the machine as well as battery life and easy type c charging compared to my old X1Y1. However, I have noticed one thing, the audio options (sample rate and bit depth) are about as basic as can be on the X1Y3 compared to my X1Y1. Anyone else notice this or do I perhaps have something limited by my audio settings? I tried looking up the spec sheet for this machine and see nothing mentioned, but looking under sound options in the control panel the max I can do is 24bit/48Khz, the only other option is 16bit/48Khz. Recording only has a signle option of 16bit/48Khz. If this is by design, I'm really disappointed in taking the hit to adio quality from one generation to the next.  For example, my original X1Y1 can do 24bit/192Khz at the maximum for playback and 24bit/96Khz for recording. Software is fully up to date through vantage, and I just installed the october update (much to my reluctance since I had to hit the update button to do it and risk the wrath of the microsoft insider program).  Thr PSREF spec sheets on lenovos website for the Y1Y3 list the chich as Realtek ALC3286, but no specs for bit depth or sampling rate for the machine. Additionally, I can't find any information on this chip online besides sellers inadvertently listing it in thier specs for X1Y3s for sale. It sounds like I might be resigned to carrying around a highres dac or end up praying for LDAC ... I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

A:Yoga 720 Lenovo boot logo. Is there a way to change it? (should be the same for every new Yoga).

I do not know of any way to easily change it without hackging the BIOS, nor would I waste time trying to do so since it is just the boot logo, and I am just happy to have it boot up.

Past few days, I have been using Ethernet connection fine. Suddenly, it is gone.In 'Control Panel' -> 'Network & Internet' -> 'Network Connection', there are 'Bluetooth Network Connection' and 'WiFi Connection' only. Same cables and ports work fine with another laptop (6 years old).Hope that someone would give a helping hand. I've been struggling with it all day long and am giving up.Help, please. P.S. Got a couple days more to be able to return, with regret of course. Hope this can be fixed.

After a clean install of Win 10 Home, I tried to reinstall the Yoga Mode Control driver from here: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk2/80UE/005KC... The install ends without error, but does not confirm success either. The app does not appear to install.  This same thing happens with Lenovo Utility.

I have a S3 Yoga 14 with i5-4210U Haswell CPU & GeForce 840M (Model# 20DM000VUS). I've searched and searched for any solution to upgrade the memory to 16GB, but seems only the Broadwell version can...so I'm stuck with 8GB.  I already upgraded to a 1TB Evo 850 SSD which did boost overall speed a lot, but running out of memory all the time is driving me nuts. So my question is, is it possible to swap out the whole motherboard to a i5-5200U Broadwell version without any HW/SW conflict issues so I could upgrade to 16GB?  Or can you only swap for the exact same MB?  It'd be a lot cheaper than buying a whole new Yoga w/dedicated graphics such as the P40 and way less hassle as long as I wouldn't need to reinstall Windows and everything. Thanks!
