programs compatible with windows 7?

Q: programs compatible with windows 7?

Bought a new laptop and been having problems with bsod every day, which came up as Driver IRQL not less or equal and further down, tcpip.sys. I left it at the sellers for a check-up and they could find no problems but will be restoring it to default. My question is what programs are safe to install when I get it back? The only programs I had installed on it were PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Norton and Microsoft Office (also normal applications like lastfm and spotify.) Are any of these known to be incompatible with Windows 7? Some forums have been saying bad things about PC Tools, some about Norton, and recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. Can anyone give any input about what programs are better/worse or proven to make the system unstable? Would be much appreciated //Anna

Preferred Solution: programs compatible with windows 7?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: programs compatible with windows 7?

The error was most likely caused by out of date drivers (more than likely vista drivers) being loaded on the system. We see that here several times a day if not more. Many of the bsod problems in win 7 are either over zealous security programs, or bad drivers. The remaining few generally being caused by bad hard ware. The techs at the seller are rarely properly qualified to diagnose these issues. The people that are get higher paying jobs in the IT sector.

Anyhow if the problem occurs after you get it back you can follow the bsod posting instructions here http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

and let the bsod troubleshooters here have a crack at helping you with it.

To start, I did a system reboot which completely wiped everything out. When I got my computer back up and running I attempted to reinstall all of my programs such as Office, Norton and my printer, however, I keep getting the same message with each program I attempt to install "this product is not compatible with this version of windows" paraphrased. I used my recovery disk to install, i've entered in the product key several times and it still will not work. attatched are screen shots of the messages I have been getting when trying to install programs. What can I do to get everything back up and running without having to do a full reboot again?

You could check online at the programs' website to see if they have an updated compatible version that you could download and install instead.

If not, then you could see if using compatibility mode on the programs may help.

My baby runs on Windows XP now, but I remember when I had (was stuck with) Win95, and it had a delightful telephony/fax program called "Aptiva Communications Center". The software I want to remove was for the HP psc 2100 printer.

A:Uninstalling Programs Not Compatible With Vista

Is it an HP PSC 2100 or some other 2100 model? Looks like there are 2105 through 2179 series printers. You need the exact model number. It looks like there are Vista drivers for all of the 2100 series drivers listed. Try http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodTop...;cc=us&dlc= and see if it has a compatible driver.

I need to know what anti-virus software is compatible with win xp pro?

A:What anti-virus software programs are compatible with win xp pro?

Here is an paragraph from an article listed at
TIP 7. Don't Ask for Virus Problems

Most users have antivirus software installed either at work or home. If you don't, you definitely need to invest, not only in a package of software, but in the subscription to the updates. Office XP is a new product and your antivirus software may not be compatible. All reputable vendors have upgrades to integrate with Office XP. If you are having problems with the latest updates for your antivirus software, contact the software vendor immediately and ask for the update/upgrade that is compatible with Office XP.

However reviewing many AV products only one lists XP as compatible. Draw your own conclusion upon review. It is possible
the programs can be upgraded or already cover XP but their websites do not mention that.

Hope that gives you some leads.

I'm trying to find a way to keep specific programs from being added to my Recent Programs list on my start menu. (In my case, it's to keep programs in my Games folder from showing up since they are already easily found right off of the start menu.)

Reading around I keep seeing the same registry solution ("Add the title as a value to this specific key") but that particular example, as others later say, seems to only work on Vista.

Does anyone know of a method for Windows 7 that has been tested and verified will do the same thing?

A:Hide specific programs from being added to Recent Programs? (Windows 7)

It just occurred to me that I have a program installed (Revo Uninstaller Pro) that is actually doing what I am asking for here. It is a Start Menu shortcut like any other with no additional parameters.

Speaking theoretically, of course, would it be more likely something within the program itself (such as running the program and at the moment of running it deletes the shortcut) or possibly the solution to my problem found maybe in the registry?

I'm just throwing ideas at the wall here.

I have Windows 7 Prof x64.

My question is, when displaing all software installed and choosing more columns of information to display, they don't stay. For example, choosing Location column. Getting out of the installed programs list and then returning to it, the Location column is gone.

Is there some what to get the columns to be persistent?

Thanks in advance.

A:Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The Programs and Features listing is shown to you by the Explorer app. Each time that you open/close the Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a folder (or a special view/list like the Programs and Features listing), Explorer tries to write info to the registry about how Explorer was showing you that folder. Windows (file) Explorer tries to write this "how to display a folder" info at other times besides just closing an Explorer window, but I'll not go into all of that.

Microsoft has not solved the problem that happens when these places in the registry get too big. When this happens, you may see the problem that you are experiencing - that of no longer being able to store the layout/view/column width/column selection/... info in the registry.

Below is video that I made showing registry keys being made. (I'm not suggesting that you mess with the registry.) Notice that new keys are made when visiting the folder named Temp. Deleting this Temp folder does not remove those registry keys. If you close Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a compressed folder (a ZIP file), the Explorer app tries to make keys so that it can remember how it last showed you that folder. If you delete or move that ZIP folder to another location, the original registry keys remain. So you can see how this area of the registry can fill up.

edit: I had to make this video again. I hope that I covered all of the original points.

One solution is to remove all of the entries/keys in the areas of ... Read more

May I suggest you delete the lot and use Microsoft Security Essentails instead?

You can download it here and it's free: Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Having more than one A/V application running can impact on how your computer performs and it is not good practice to run more than one on your computer.

I wonder if someone can help me. I posted on the microsoft support pages but nobody could help me and directed me here.

A few weeks back i accidentally downloaded a program that wasn't from a reliable source, which in turn downloaded a bunch of junk on my computer. It was stupid of me, i'm usually really careful!
I managed to get in and remove most of them, but then all of a sudden all but a few of my programs completely disappeared from Programs and features. Flash Player, Google Chrome, Firefox and a few other programs were the only ones hat remained. The major programs that were missing from the list are still working fine from what i can see, but i didn't get the chance to remove a few items of adware and they are still active on my computer and being as irritating as an STI (i'd imagine...)
On searching online how to remove these parasites, most of the sites suggest uninstalling from Programs and Features, which i can't do because they aren't on the list! All other suggestions have not worked!
I have tried going into safe mode (with and without networking) and setting up another user profile with admin but the list stays the same.
I can't remember the last time i backed up (Months ago i presume)
This morning i did a scan on cmd (sfc /scan ??) and came back saying "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"
I have tried various tools to try moving the adware: YAC, Cloud System Booster, (i've uninstalled some others i've used so can't remembe... Read more

My problem all started about two or three weeks ago when Windows Security Center popped up saying that my computer was infected with various viruses. So when it prompted me to remove the infected files, it requested a password of some sort that I didn't have, so i just ignored Security Center when it came up. Then my computer wouldn't let me open Mozilla Firefox. I had to use Internet Explorer and then somehow I hit a button that would search for something using my default internet, meaning Firefox. So I found a way to get around the block Security Center was making. But whenever I would try to do anything some window would pop up from Security Center saying I was infected and it would ask me if I wanted to block whatever file it was. I decided to just ignore Security Center whenever it came up. Then, I'm not sure when it happened, but a window would pop up when i turned on my computer and it says "rundll32.exe Application not found." So now when I try to open up something I have to search through my program files to find something that will be able to open whatever it is that I need. I have been able to open up Firefox but if I try to open up something like Security Center or almost anything from Control Panel, it won't let me open it. For instance, when I try to open up Add or Remove Programs from Control Panel a window pops up saying "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found." I am able to open up most files,... Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a new printer, partly because mine isn't compatible with Windows 7 (and the company has said they probably won't be updating it...) and partly because its old and uses a lot of expensive ink. So here is the question I guess:

Can someone please give a list, or some other information regarding which color printers / all-in-ones are compatible with Windows 7 Out of the Box, meaning I won't have to wait for the company to release their driver in 2-3 months after the official release of the OS?

Right now I've got an Epson C88 which will print B/W without much problem, but can't do color as it produces a page where every line of text is overlayed with a bar of a single color in alternating fashion. The problem is that I need to print about 10 color pages a day for school and am left running my flash drive to school every time I need to print. I've tried reinstalling the printer driver, reinstalling the driver in compatibility mode, and even just letting the windows driver service install its own version... all without any improvement.

So, if anyone can please share this information with me so that I can get a new printer quickly, I'd much appreciate it. Also, I've been comparing the Canon MP490 and the Epson NX515 (I don't want another epson, but if thats all that will work, so be it), so if either of these two have been proven to work correctly with Windows 7, I'd really like to know.

PS: I'm not sure if this has been brought up before... Read more

A:Windows 7 Compatible Printers

I have an HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One that we bought some time ago, relatively cheap, and I've had no problems between it and Windows 7. At most, the scanner is crap for pencil drawings and color pencil art. But that's the printer itself. I also have an HP LaserJet P1006, however that's B&W. For the most part, if it says that it works with Vista, it's likely to work with 7. And most modern printers should work out-of-box.

As a note with the 5610, if you're printing 10 pages in color a day, that's going to be really expensive in cartriges. Unfortunately, I've found that true of most color inkjet printers.

Hi Guys,

Just bought a Dell Inspiron with a pre-installed Windows 8.Want to setup a wi-fi network at home but the wi-fi routers that i chekcked over the internet, most of them are not Windows8 compatible. Please suggest wi-fi routers(preferably D-Link/Netgear) suitable for home network and compatible with Windows 8.

A:Wi-fi Router Compatible with Windows 8

I just bought this router recently and it is awesome! Check out the specs and the price. You won't get a comparable Netgear or D-Link for anywhere near the price. Oh, and make sure its a version 2 hardware if you decide to buy it from anywhere other than NewEgg. There is also a firmware update available from the manufacturer's website that you should apply. Its also future-proof and offers additional features like IPV6 ready and you can also create "temporary" guest accounts as well. I never saw anything like it for near the price!

Hi, I would like to know if my laptop Pavilion dv6 1125 is compatible with windows 7? My current OS is windows vista.Thank you,Omar

A:Is hp pavilion dv6 compatible with windows 7?

Absolutely. Anything that will run Vista will run Windows 7. Not remembered much but at the time Windows 7 came out one of its selling points was "unified driver architecture" where Vista drivers are supposed to work in 7, and they usually do. I do recommend a clean install of Windows 7 and not an in-place upgrade. You will have to buy Windows 7 of course.

So, the more technology advances, the less I seem to know. (Just as a nice little preface, there.)

However, I still enjoy gaming, and would love to purchase Fallout 3 (GOTY edition) for my new Dell Inspiron, which is running on Windows 8. Fallout 3 GOTY edition specifies it's for Vista/XP, and I've seen a few questions on here regarding its compatibility
with Windows 7, but so far, nothing on 8. Does anyone happen to know if that game will work on Windows 8? I'd like to find out before actually buying the game, as I'd have no other way to play it, except on this new laptop.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Things don't look good.
You might get a better answer by checking with Bethesda Software, though.

Hello! We recently bought McAfee Total Protection 2007 and it works fine on our Windows XP computer. Of course, this one (Windows ME) is the one that's having the security problems, but according to the box, McAfee Total Protection 2007 is not compatible with Windows ME - only Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

So, what firewalls would you recommend for Windows ME on a NON-WIRELESS DSL connection? Thanks.

A:Firewalls Compatible With Windows Me

I have used Sygate Personal Firewall on Windows ME without any problems whatsoever.
