Preferred Solution: Changing text size and colour in menus

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was wondering if it was possible to change the colour of the text under desktop icons from the default white to something else.

I have some cool NASCAR-related wallpapers from my drivers' sites, but if I try to use them, the writing becomes hard to see because the white of the text for the icons doesn't stand out at all.

Is it possible to make the shortcut text a different colour besides white? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks!

Windows 7 64-bit
I can adjust the display so it's large enough to read everything but the text. For instance, now have it set at 150% of normal and the title of this post is large but what I'm typing now is so small it's barely readable. MUCH smaller than 10-point.

There is a way to customize the display, but anything more than 150% is so large it overflows my wide-screen monitor. Surely there must be a choice between way too large and way too small, but I can't find it.

A message on my screen now says to run TSG Sysinfo, for information helpful in solving this problem. Last time I downloaded something similar, here, I ended up with a $40 Uniblue program on my computer that I had to fight like crazy to stop invading my world. I never got my money back, either. It would help to know what "TSG Sysinfo" is, before I commit to running it.

Thanks,
Bahb

Hey all, sometimes when I enter the TSG site my text size changes. One minute the text is the size I have it set to and then when I go to a different thread it will get larger. At times if I hit the refresh button it goes back to the right size and sometimes it doesnt. I ran ccleaner but it does not make any difference. I have tried firefox(3.6) in safe mode but no difference there. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this also. It is only the TSG site that this happens on.

A very non-computer savvy woman asked why the text size changes (sometimes to large or very large and sometimes to small or very small) while she is typing on her netbook with XP. She says it happens in both her browser (Chrome) and her word processor (MS Works). She also is running Google Desktop. I did not see any utitlities or other unusual software. She says it is random but she thinks she might be brushing against the touchpad when it happens. Any guesses what she is doing? (She was going to try to show me but her battery died.)

If the touch pad is setup with a Scroll Zone, pressing CTRL+ScrollZone is same as CTRL+Wheel on the mouse, and will change text size in many applications. If they use keyboard shortcuts a lot like CTRL+C and CTRL+V that might explain it. You can disable the scroll zones in Control Panel | Mouse/Touchpad to see if that stops it.

I placed the font size button on the toolbar which makes it easier than using View>TextSize>Size.

Hey guys,

As the subject says the text size is huge in windows, regardless of windows prefs or teh View -> Text Size option... they're huge and barely readable... just a lot of other problems. Removed a few entries from regedit & msconfig, there were two listings found that looked like a lot of squares and o's as the name, the path was in HLCU/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT or something like that... I removed them as well.

I'll start out here by stating a problem I finally solved and then my question:

For months now I've been fighting that my hardware cursor disappears in World of Warcraft on my home theater system and time I switch modes to full screen and sometimes even in windowed mode and the reason for this is apparently due to me setting my display text size to 150% or 125%. I did find via some searching WoW customer service forums that if I set it back to 100% (default) OR 149% customized, my hardware cursor works again. I'm going to leave it at 149% because I really do need the larger text size on my HDTV and using 149%, I don't have to change back to normal, log out, log in, then start my game.

I'm glad I found this solution - but my question is, WHY is this an issue on Windows 7? Why does 149% work??

I did some searching and couldn't find any reports of this on XP - and as far as I can remember it only started happening to me when I upgraded my XP to Win7. I'm hoping Microsoft recognizes this as a bug and will fix it someday.

Thanks in advance!

A:Game "hardware cursor" disappears after changing text size

This has to do with DPI scaling. Technically, when you change DPI different images should be used (higher DPI - higher quality image).
150% probably is that border where image should be changed. Likely, in your case that image is missing or somewhat corrupt (or might be a Blizzard's bug).

But Microsoft knows about problems with scaling. In Windows 8 Dev. Preview, at least in Metro part of it, scaling is done in a different way.

I am trying to use a Knoppix CD to access my files locked on my computer during a NTFS-related error. I have downloaded an ISO and I have burned the CD successfully and Knoppix loads like a dream.

However, Knoppix's default font is so huge that I can't navigate the system. I'm a moderate computer nerd; though I am brand-new to Knoppix, I could easily and confidently follow the instructions I have if only I could read the words on the Knoppix screen!

Can anyone offer any easily-understood, step-by-step directions for how to shrink the text size? I have been Googling forever, but I haven't come up with anything I can understand.

Greetings!

I've been having this problem for quite sometime now, but it's finally gotten to be really frustrating.

In some of my menus (roughly 50%), the text and the entry fields seem to run off of the edge of the menu. It almost seems like the type is too large to be contained within the menu, even though the type size looks normal. This seems to only happen with third party menus, but since I use a lot of third party apps, it gets pretty annoying. I can't recall when this began happening, but I do know that it wasn't always this way.

Follow this link (http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/follicle/Menu.jpg) for an image of one of the menus. See how the "Last Name" field runs right off the edge of the menu? I've had to abort this installation because I couldn't fill in all of the needed information to register.

I've tried adjusting my resolution, playing with display font sizes, and adjusting my moniter DPI setting with no success.

Any thoughts on this odd problem? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

A:How to re-size the explorer search box. - Large text size.

Hi,
According to my experience, high-DPI can cause strange behavior include toolbars, icons, and control buttons, though the link I shared with you previously doesn't include the issue about ratio between address box and search box, the symptom
is somewhat similiar to that.
I recommend that we turn on Windows update, and wait for an update which might address this issue, or as you mentioned, turn to a lower dpi as a temporarily workaround.

Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

I have a visual handicap (AMD) and having newly installed Win 10, find I cannot see (without a lot of difficulty) the text on taskbars, toolbars and drop-down menus. If I could make them Bold rather than larger (although just a couple of points larger would be good), I could see it. After 16pt I can't read text.
I have looked at ways of doing this until I am almost insane. Gooing through all the Win 10 options in Settings.
Does anyone know how to customise these things with bold text?

I can see a selection of different fonts in Settings but no way to apply these to anything other than the fonts I use in Word.

I have read this webpage but again, I can't see well enough to actually do this. But would it work if I got a local techie to do it?

I have no clue if this is the correct forum to post this in. I will like to explain how I have gotten to this point. For some reason, there was some weird things happening to my laptop. When I ctrl+alt+del, there was no options other than lock the computer and log off. The task manager completely disappeared. I had no clue why that happened. Secondly, my context menus wouldn't work on the start menu, so deleting a folder or a program out of my start menu was impossible unless I went through the countless folders in my C drive to do it that way. The problem was, the option to enable or disable context menus was missing from my properties, which caused the issue to begin with.

I went on countless websites, trying to remedy the problem. I finally came across the tutorials on this site and fixed both issues quickly! The issue I am having now is a fix I tried before I knew what I was doing and I have no clue how to change it back. When I open the context menu in explorer, instead of the first option being 'Open', there is only a 1. It was when I tried to go into Regedit and fix the issue there. I am wondering is there is any way to change it back to 'Open' and how would I go about doing this?

I am going to attach a picture so you guys will understand what I am talking about.

I think I don't miss the window border transparency, it didn't help readability anyway (in fact it mostly made it worse) and it's not so extremely beautiful that I'd want to keep it. But what is still bugging me is that the text colour of the window title bar is always black. No matter how dark the frame colour is. Aero still tried in vain to make it more visible by painting some white glow behind it, but Win8 doesn't even do that. Set a black window frame colour and you won't see any window titles at all! I consider this a major design flaw. So is it possible now to change the text colour (for active windows only!) from black to white? Just as it has been the last 30 years? I'm very much used to inverted colours for the active window because that makes it very clear which window is active. Though it is easier in Win8 to tell active and inactive windows apart, I still want to use white-on-darkblue active captions.

BTW, I noticed the automatic window frame colour adapting to the wallpaper image, but that's exactly what I do not want to have. First, the frame colour should not change, and second, it should have some contrast to its surroundings.

Adding this to the lack of configuration settings for other parts of the UI, it seems Microsoft doesn't want us to customise things at all. Just like every computer in the world should look and behave exactly the same. But wait, isn't that what Apple already did? Do I really need to move on to Linux to configure the UI like XP allowed... I want to insert revision text in draft documents in blue.

I found a suggestion for a suitable macro:

Dim oRng As Range
Dim oChange As Revision
Dim bTrack As Boolean
bTrack =ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = False
For Each oChange In ActiveDocumentRevisions
(indented) Set oRng = oChange.Range
(indented) oChange.Accept
(indented) oRng.Font.Color = wdColorBlue
Next oChange
ActiveDocument.TrackRevisions = bTrack

I assigned the macro to F11.

However, pressing F11 just prints the macro text instead of allowing me to type my revision in blue.

I have no idea what might be the cause of this failure.

With thanks for any pointers.

The first step to repairing OE is to Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

For you to get the "Window Color and Appearance" window that you show in google is to have Windows 7 selected in Aero themes (personalization window). You have "One Piece Theme" selected. This may be causing your issue.

See if you can change the taskbar color with "Windows 7" as your Aero theme. Then select "One Piece Theme" and see if the taskbar stays the color you changed it to.

As I am writing this now the white background on to which I am typing as is changing between white and a very pale blue hue a bit like the colour of the scrollbars on the forum only lighter.

Everything else on the screen is also changing from its original colour to this pale blue as well.

It is doing this every 1-2 seconds.

It does not do it on the windows screen and I have not tried playing a game so I don't know if games are effected.

Can anybody help please?

I am a beginner with computing
thanks

It's possible your browser has been hijacked and you are running a dodgy .css filke that can cause these symptoms, to check this out please
Go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

When I open a program, regardless of what it is, my monitor tints everything slightly green. If I close or minimise everything the green tint disappears. It's not a problem at this point so much as a concern that my fairly recently purchased monitor might be dying. However, it's really strange that the green tint only appears when a window is open. Would it be fair to say that my monitor is dying, or could it be a software problem of some kind?

Hello..

It is possible that the monitor is going bad, but I would check the video card driver first. You might want to update it.

If possible, check the monitor on a second system and see if it does it. I have seen it work both ways... One time the monitor was actually bad, but the other time, it was just the video card driver.

As standard when you download something, the pop-up box is gray and the status bar is blue.

Is there any way that the colour scheme etc can be changed to your own preference ?

Also, can similar be done for a website that has a particular colour scheme (My new site will be in colours of black (#000000) and green (#009900) ? ? ? ?

A:changing colour of download box etc

My progress bars, download bars, and title areas are the same color as my "Active Title Bar" = Red. The box itself is gray, though. All my programs that have progress-indicator functions are red, like when Norton scans emails, the bar is red, and its title area is also red. Everything uses that color when they do their things! When they load up, when they get updates, I can see any color I want. If I changed my "Active Title Bar" to light green, all my progress bars and title bars would be light green, etc.. .You can make it any color in the palette.

The "Active Title Bar" color setting is in Control Panel>Display>Appearance>Advanced>..click "Item">scroll up for "Active Title Bar" & highlight it = under the "Color One" and "Color Two" boxes, pick your color. (I pick the same color for both boxes, I think it looks better). There are some other things there that might change the gray but I don't know - things like "Application Background", "Messge Box" - ?

If you do this, be aware that the main thing it does is change the color the color of your Internet Explorer main title bar. But it will look neato! (And you can make your Inactive Title Bar a color too - mine is light purple.)
