Clear Icon Cache entry for IE8

Q: Clear Icon Cache entry for IE8

I have windows 7 x64 bit. I was having an issue with ie8 and wanted to reinstall of ie8. I went to computer, and then uninstall or change a program. I then clicked on turn windowd features on or off. I unchecked IE8 and rebooted the computer. I then went back and rechecked ie8 and rebooted the computer to have ie8 back in the machine
I ran Autoruns and noticed a something running at
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs\startup
HKEY Local Machine\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\InstalledComponents.
under Internet Explorer - File not found.
Using the jump function, it took me to the following registry entry:
C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe /D /C start C:\Windows\system32\ie4uinit.exe - ClearIconCache under:
If I disable the function via Autoruns it moves to a new key under the Installed Componenets called AutorunDisabled.
Is this a problem?
Can I delete the registry key from regedit so it does not startup at boot up?
Can I uncheck both of them from starting up\ - is it safe?
Any help would be appreciated

Preferred Solution: Clear Icon Cache entry for IE8

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried creating process ie4finit.exe with -ClearIconCache arguement, but failed, seems I have no access privilege.

I am developing applications for Windows Mobile and Android. I like my job.

Here's the scoop:

I am trying to clear 16 pesky URL's that won't go away. I've tried rebooting, tried clearing the history, temp files, internet temp files, most recent documents. Ran windows cleanup, cleared the document history and still these 16 keep showing up.

I am runnnig Windows 2000 Pro (all updates done) and have even tried reinstalling IE6 SP1 as well still these 16 seem to be screwing up something when I try to go to the site that they go to (Pogo.com Solitaire...game).

I use VoptXP 7.22 to defrag and keep this computer clean and in Vopt you are able to delete the URL cache...well these 16 keep showing up in there and won't be deleted. Any ideas where these URL's are stored? Is there a file I can edit and delete these from? If I can get rid of the URL's then I figure I can find out if it's them that are causing problems with Pogo.com ...have even made sure I have the latest JavaVM as well. All bases covered just need to figure out where on this computer those URL's are getting stored to erase them. Thanks.

Do you mean like the 4.7 gig shown here? AFAIK it isn't necessary, its just appdata that is recently used. It will be given to other apps if necessary. Of course a reboot will clear it out, but I am sure you were looking for something on the fly.

Good Morning,

When I try to repair my internet connection a box comes up stating it can't do it because the ARP Cache needs to be cleared. Can someone explain what that is and how I go about clearing it?

A:How to clear ARP Cache

This problem happens when the "Remote services" service is enabled.

Go to Start > Run and type in services.msc. You will see a full list of services. Find "Routing and Remote Services" and double left-click it. Stop the service and then disable it. Then try and do the repair.

If you want to read about the protocol in detail check out: http://www.erg.abdn.ac.uk/users/gorry/course/inet-pages/arp.html

I am new to windows 7. How do I clear the cache, and where are all the other settings to work window 7 properly

A:clear the cache

You don't need to do anything to Windows 7 to make it work properly.

There are some things in Windows 7 that will never work properly and those things are not going to be fixed :-(

If you want to remove some temporary files, use these steps:
Disk Cleanup - Open and Use
But you probably will not see any performance gain.
Your antivirus scans might go a tiny bit faster if temp files are removed.

I just finished adding a computer to our business network (small business) and my internet started running very slow. I right clicked on the icon and the pop up said that "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: ARP Cache."

I went to a couple of help sites (before I found yours!) and did what they suggested, which caused various other issues. I've since started the computer back at a previous place, so at least now it's only my ARP Cache to be cleared.

I am pretty close to ripping all my hair out. My cache in firefox will not clear, no matter what I do.

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled it, after trying to do the tools way of clearing it. I can't find any other answers on what to do to make the damn thing clear.

I am positive it is not, because I'm doing some web developing stuff and I deleted a banner from my photo hosting site, and its showing up as the correct image in IE, Chrome, and half the time in Opera. At this point I don't care about it only working half the time in Opera, FF is my browser of choice and it will not update in it.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.13, Windows Vista Home Basic, and it didnt work before I put my addons back on, NoScript and WebNotifier.

Could someone please help me? I have never had this problem before.

My problems began when I had a trojan that infected my NetBT.sys file. My antivirus removed this file and I had to copy the original file from my windows disk to get my internet back(using a static IP did work without the file).

Now,whenever I right click my wireless icon and select repair it performs all actions, until it gets to clearing Netbt cache and reports that it was unable to repair the connection and the reason is cannot clear Netbt cache.

Is this a problem for me? I do not connect to other computers on my network, just to my wireless router. Do I need to fix it? And if so can anyone suggest a method?

So far I have used winsockxpfix which didnt help
Disabled and Re-enabled TCP/IP in connection settings
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: "netsh winsock reset catalog"
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. "netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]"
Tried various other DOS command fixes but nothing has worked.

Like I said its not proving to be a problem. I can surf the net/play games and download things without an issue so do I need to even bother fixing it? Will it become a problem in the future?

Thanks in advance for any help

There was a great post in the SevenForums titled "General Fix for USB Driver Problems". I can follow all of the steps in that post on my Windows 10 machines except for deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. Is there the equivalent to the INFCACHE.1 file in Windows 10 that contains USB driver info? Is there an equivalent (or better) process for cleaning up USB driver problems/conflicts in Windows 10?

I work with/repair USB devices and can have over a dozen different devices a day plugged into my computer. I regularly clean out the hidden devices in my device manager, but have had a few conflicts I can't resolve and am wondering if I am missing a USB cache file that needs to be rebuilt.

Thanks so much!

Hello all,

Got a weird problem with IE7 running on Vista.

I've just publised a website called www.proevwrestling.com.
The new site displays perfectly well on a laptop that I've got but not on my main PC. On my machine I can still see the old site.

I've tried all the basic things like clearing the temp internet files, and refreshing but I cant persude IE7 to go and get the new site.

Both my laptop and main machine are on the same wireless network so I know its not a router or ISP cache issue

Any ideas....

Hello, I'm new in these parts.

Got a problem with a Toshiba Equium A100 and its Atheros AR5005G Wireless network adaptor.
Been trying to sort it for ages and have found no help anywhere online.
I have narrowed it down to there something being wrong with the DNS.
I can connect to the wireless network fine, but wont resolve DNS.
When repairing the network i get a 'Could not clear the DNS cache'
I have tried running ipconfig/flushdns in Command Prompt but function failed during execution.
I have unistalled the atheros client and drivers, and then installed them after downloading form toshibas support site, but still get the same problem.

Would be very greatful of any help!

A:Could not clear DNS cache. Atheros AR5005G

It may sound like a faulty Wireless adaptor, but I do doubt that is the case. can you tell me the exact error message you get when trying ipconfig /flushdns

also, can you tell me if you have any DNS records, by doing ipconfig /displaydns

also, make sure DNS is set up on your router, and your router is also your dns server (if DHCP is set up on your router, it should automatically do that).

thats all the help i am able to give without knowing more, sorry.

So I don't know if it's

A. An issue with Firefox
B. An issue with Windows 8
C. An issue with my new laptop.

Out of 3 computers I regularly use, 2 on a daily basis and 1 on a weekly basis, this is the only computer that has issues where I have to clear my cache and cookies ATLEAST once per day. Otherwise certain websites don't fully load.
For example, I went to Hotmail.com just now, and it loaded a white page until I cleared my cache and cookies and it finally loaded properly.
Other websites like Gamefaqs will load, however everything will be a jumbled up mess, and no images/banners will have loaded properly.

Clearing my cache and cookies for the last hour always fixes it. Regardless of whether I have been to that website in the last hour or any website in the last hour.

Sometimes I have to clear my cache and cookies every 10 minutes, sometimes I only have to do it once per hour.
However I have yet to go 2 hours without having to clear my cache and cookies atleast once.

I can still return this computer if need be (though they'll give me a hassle for it). But this is something I would expect to be a software issue. Only I have no idea how to fix it :/

Also no I have not tried other browsers yet. I keep meaning to, but this is a laptop I use mostly at work so I haven't gotten around to it. Firefox is the only browser I've used as of yet.

Thanks in advance guys!

So this has been happening for months where web pages wont load in chrome or firefox, not sure about IE. I have to clear my dns cache resolver by typing ipconfig /flushdns
It happens so frequently that I have created a batch script on my desktop to perform this task.
I had a wifi connection for this computer and recently changed to a hard wired connection. The issue happened on both adapters.
I just noticed this morning that in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
Under my active networks it shows the name of my home network as "Texas turbo" which is a name I gave to my router about 2 years ago. I changed it to "the Cabin" maybe 6 months ago.
Why is win 7 sharing center displaying the old name, and why am I having to regularly clear my DNS? I don't seem to have issues with my mac book, ipad or iphone. My mac book has bootcamp with win 7 and it doesn't seem to have any issues.

Okay I have a issue that has been more bothersome to me than actually detrimental to my PC experience(does that make any sense). I just mean it is not a critical issue just something I would like to get top the bottom off for my own satisfaction !
When I load up a program, doesn't matter what, for instance Gothic 2, and as the progsrm is loading in, what will flash on the screen is pages from other applications, seems to be mainly my Defgragment(Advanced Defrag 2.0), and other maintenance programs AdvSysCare etc... Now is there any reason for this to occur, I am sure ther is a graphiocs buffer or cache that is simply not clearing out and when I get these flashes from other applications perhaps it is supposed to be flashing black screen ?
Anyone able to shed any light on this subject. Its kind of hard to explain so if you need me to clarify anything please just ask.

1. Is it possible to configure in Windows to avoid having this cache at all ? Maybe in regsitery or Control Center ?

2. How via C++ API can i clear this cache ?

When I booted up my desktop computer today I could not get online or retrieve my email. Running Windows XP PRO, and using Firefox & Thunderbird. I have a wireless router setup, and I can access my email and get online. So, I took the router out of the system and plugged the cable modem directly into CPU. I can now get online except not on my ISP website or access my email via pop3 from same ISP server.

Under Network Connections in Control panel, I disabled connection, and then enabled connect. Then I right-clicked and clicked repair. Received error" Task could not be completed because the DNS Cache can not be cleared.

I called my ISP to see if they could help, and they said they could not.

I would appreciate any help.

Not many suggestions out there for fixing it.One suggestion is a repair install of Vista: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-re...tall-vista.htmlAnother is if you're using Daemon Tools (and no solution is offered). The error message is located here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/m...384(VS.85).aspxNear the bottom of the page - but it doesn't say muchI'd have to suggest checking the trio of Vista diagnostic tools:1) Event Viewer...Windows Logs...in particular check the System and Application logs2) Control Panel (Classic View)...Performance Information and Tools...Advanced Tools- View Performance Details in Event Log- Reliability and Performance Monitor...Reliability Monitor- Generate a System Health Report - check for errors and warnings3) Control Panel (Classic View)...Problem Reports and Solutions...View Problem History
