A long shot - Base64 Encoded File

Q: A long shot - Base64 Encoded File

I am trying to help someone view a file received via forwarded e-mail. Quick View Plus only identifies it as a Base64 Encoded file and says click here to view but when I click it shows only ASCII coding. I have tried to decipher the e-mail as HTML and MIM without luck. It is one of those that has been forwarded through several different e-mail systems and ISPs. Anyone have a clue about Base64 Encoded files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Maybe this is dumb, but I understand Winzip can decode a lot of stuff.

Can anyone screw with their MMC(microsoft management console) and figure out where in the code(if its open) it uses IE to run. I need to know where it references it and where the files would be to figure out how and where it would be making the error and not recognizing a high enough version of IE in its startup.

Tell me if this isnt legal and goes against forum rules. I was taking the shot it was open or it could be done with development software, or something, legally. I need my MMC working to fix all the other stuff on my comp. No defrag, no admin tools, no device manager. They all revolve around fixing the only problems i have left to get my system back in tip top shape. I may partially have the capabiltiy but i dont know where to start. Id need to know what software to use, if there is any, and i could probly figure some of it out if i could basically debug it. Like i said, im not asking for illegal(assuming what is illegal) options if they are against forum rules.
| Edit: i just thought of something. But i looked and its not in the direct properties for the individual apps shortcuts (obviously) in my startup menu. Ill look in their properties in their directories. But, could part of the problem be, if you've read my other posts, that its just from being set to shut down in some way like with a DOS prompt(command.com). Maybe I'm jumping a gun, but, I'm at the point im thinking any wild thing i can to think of an answers. I'm guessing this wouldnt ... Read more

Hi,
I have just upgraded my windows 8.1 to windows 10. Since I upgraded my laptop to windows 10, it takes so long to shot down (around 10 minutes). I have never had this problem before. This is annoying. I tried different power options and also made sure that
all of apps are closed before I shut the computer down; but still takes so long. My lap top has the minimum system required as well. The lap top specifications are 2.2GHz Intel CPU, 2GB RAM and 500 GB HHD. What is my solution? How can make that time shorter?
Thank you.

Some programs, such as Belarc Advisor will list the software and their respective keys that you have installed on your hard drive. When you get it up and running or install the drive on another computer, you can use it to find the key. Asking to "create or download" is against forum policiesMark

Trying to help my brother who is in another state with a modem problem. Thought I'd post the problem here and see if anyone can help me.

He has an HP Pavillion w/internal Rockwell 56k modem. The modem was apparently fried during a storm (it had smoke marks on it) so he went to Staples and asked for a compatable replacement. His card had 2 plugs on it, one said "audio", the other said "CD" and some white plug that went to another card.

Staples sold him a Sterling modem. I don't know if it was the actual modem or just the card. It only had one plug on it and it was for the phone line.

He installed the card and then ran diagnostics on it, whenit came to Port 3 (where the card was installed) he got an error that was on a blue screen and said something like "AE error terminating program".

Any ideas? Does anyone know if this Sterling is compatiable? He said it was much smaller than the Rockwell that came out of the system.

Thx~Amy

A:Long shot - modem problem

His old modem was likely a Hardware ISA modem, and the new one might be a software PCI modem.

The first step is determine if the modem is PCI or ISA - ISA plugs into a black slot, PCI plugs into a white slot.

Second step is to remove the old modem drivers/software from the system. Check the ADD/REMOVE programs in the the control panel first, next restart the computer in Safe Mode and go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager. Remove all Modem entries, remove Modem/Serial Wave devices from under Sound and Multimedia devices, and remove (PCI/Modem) enumerator if it exists.

Next reboot the computer, If the Modem is PCI it should be automatically detected and all he has to do is point the driver wizard to the drivers on floppy or CD. The driver may be a file that needs to be run and it might extract the files and install the drivers.

If the Modem is ISA and not set for PNP, make sure it is setup like the old modem - for the same COM PORT and IRQ - you'll need the manual if this is the case. Then in Windows run the ADD NEW HARDWARE wizard, and then the Modem applet to detect the modem. You'll still want to use the CD to install the correct drivers. On the CD there may also be a more indepth file describing the install procedure.

Some older computers do not work well with new modems, some fail to detect them at all.

Hi Chips,

When you are able to reboot the crashed PC and get onto the Internet, download the (free) Belarc Advisor from http://www.belarc.com (at least I still think its free).

It should tell you the serial numbers of all installed applications and Windows software.

A:Long Shot -Advent Bluetooth dongle

It looks like your adapter probably uses the toshiba bluetooth stack.
Try the trial download and see if it activates with your adapter.
If not,you would either have to buy the software or get another adapter.
Probably cheaper to get another adapter on ebay.
If you get another adapter, get one that is EDR 2.1.

Here is some info.

This question pertains to something called Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86). I play Lord of the Rings Online, an MMO, and the Mines of Moria expansion was just released and you need to patch these games when an expansion is released and one of the things the patcher is trying to do is download and install this Visual C++ package, but it ends in error. I try manually downloading this from microsoft's website and installing it but I get an odd error message everytime.

The error is "error 1935 error occured during the installation of assembly Microsoft.VC80.atl.type = "win32.version = "8.0.50727.762", publickeytoken = "1fc86369a1e18e36", processorarchitechure = "x86"."

I'm running windows vista 32 bit edition, I dont have service pack 1 and not sure if this would rectify my problem but am downloading it as I type as it was suggested elsewhere. It was also suggested that perhaps my .Net Framework needed reinstallation which I have done but to no avail. Basically its my opinion that if I can get this Visual C++ thing installed manually I can continue patching but I'm not too keen with such matters.

I need to upload a PCM encoded .wav file (16 bits, 8000Hz) to a call center server.

I originally recorded the sound files on an iPhone which output the file as .m4a. Using Audacity, I converted thse files to .wav, 16 bit, 8000Hz, but I wanted to ask if the original .m4a file that the iPhone produced would have been PCM encoded.

I'm having trouble with some of these sound files, and I am wondering if it could be due to the original file (.m4a).

I'm going to re-record this stuff as straight .wav but I wanted to inquire about this as I'm new to sound recordings.

Any info at all will be helpful.

I tried posting over on the audacity forums but my IP is blacklisted, even though I have never posted on that site before.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

A:Is a .m4a sound file PCM encoded?

An .m4a file is a lossy compressed format, so when you convert it back to .wav you're going to lose some quality.

OK... in my 40+ years, I have never had trouble like this, and I've been working on computers since I was 10.

I am trying to get a Palm Symbol SPT1700 to sync with a computer. Finding a computer with a serial port nowadays is impossible, so I've been trying a Prolific USB-to-Serial adapter. On one computer I was able to get the Palm to sync once with the laptop through the adapter and it has refused to retain a connection again ever since.

I have this Panasonic CF-29 Toughbook that actually has a serial port. I have tried EVERYTHING but I cannot get Windows XP to recognize the port. In BIOS, there are three entries - Serial A, Serial B and MP (multimedia) Serial Port. I have tried every combination under the sun of 'enabled,' 'disabled,' and 'manual' for those three but nothing works. I have tried to scan for new hardware. I have even manually added the port. Nothing. I have tried to disable the touchscreen (which doesn't work anyway) as well as the modem and USB legacy support. Nothing has any effect.

I installed the USB-to-Serial adapter on the CF-29 and while it installs fine, the laptop refuses to acknowledge the Palm. I looked at the port of the adapter and it is set to COM4. In the port drop-down menu, it shows that COMs 1,2,3, and 7 are all in use somewhere.

ANY help at all is going to be greatly appreciated!

I have an episode of the outstanding drama LOST that I want to turn my father on to. He has only a primitive dialup pc and is by no means computer literate. I have in the past successfully converted mpegs to vcds that played on his dvd player. I forget how those files were encoded, whether by divx or whatnot. Will NERO AHEAD or intervideo windvd 4(which I have never used and am not familiar with) go ahead and automatically convert this xvid file into a proper vcd file that will play on his dvd player, like I did with a couple of other videos that were NOT XVIDS? Or must I do some type of conversion prior to burning?

Referring to Windows Me again. Since I cured my last problem 'lack of resources' (overload of old internet files I think)I have been 'infested' with "VBE Folders". They suddenly arrived in pretty well all my Word document sections - all are empty. I have tried throwing them in the recycle bin but they keep re-appearing. Do I need these? If not, how can I delete them, then deter them from re-appearing? If I must keep them, can I hide them? They eat nothing, make no noise, and seem to be harmless but their (unnecessary?) presence in the document lists annoys me.

In windows Explorer files of the extention .avi will have an icon that is that little film strip with a screen shot from the video file. Matroska files (.mkv) only show a generic icon in explorer? How can i fix this so that the Matroska file will show the screen shot from the video file as is does with avi files in windows explorer? I have Home Premium? Thanks:)

A:Matroska File to show screen shot as icon like an avi file does in explorer

I wrote a similar post about mov files in here
Have a quick read at it (to understand what you're doing and why it's the way it is), then grab some matroska directshow filters. There's a list here: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html

P.S: Keep in mind the filter sparses the mkv file only (aka the container), it does not decode the audio or video stream inside of it. If you're only getting a filter but can't see the video, it would be because you're missing the codec (compressor-decompressor) for the video stream. I'm mentioning it because mkv files are usually encoded using codecs for which the avi container is not suitable (for example H.264 or AC3). If that's the problem, be sure to get codecs too (for example ffdshow-tryouts for H.264, or AC3filter for AC3).

ok i have this password encrypt and decrypt function in a dll that i can run from an exe. And i want to duplicate the encrypt and decrypt function but in vb.net only. I cannot use the dll in the project. Im not sure eactly how they encrypt it, but i believe it might be some sort of Base64. Peaking in the the dll i see this:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789+/

im guessing its the "salt" or character set or something...

when encoding a string, it seems to always put a equal sign (=) on the end. And if i decode it without the equal sign it will still still return the origonal string.

when i enter a single character and then encode, it always gives me a 12 charater string(includeing the =)

when i enter more than 8 characters, it will encode to a 24 character string.

Now I noticed the same in Subtitle Workshop and Irfanview, only that in these it takes even longer, like 7 seconds, for the load file menu to appear after I click on the "open file" icon.

Some other programs, like VLC and Winamp, don't have this problem.

Any clues?

My computer has been a little on the slow side recently, and I've been wanting an excuse to update to Windows 7 32 bit from Vista, so I did that recently. Update went fine, internet browsing was still a little slow, signaling to me that something might be wrong.

Norton scan -- turned up nothing
Malwarebytes -- borks out with an error message every time it reaches Norton's program folder and has to shut down. Typical Windows error message "Such and such had to shut down. Would you like to send a report to Windows" etc.

Panda Activescan however, came up with something:

I tried deleting it, no go. I tried deleting it with Killbox. That worked, but then it just came back. I don't want to have to buy Panda Scan just to get rid of it, so any help would be appreciated. Fortunately, it looks like it's the only nasty bug I have on my system right now, but google hasn't really helped me find any good fixes.

Still can't get rid of the damn thing. Help?

I recently had the fake MS security malware/virus pop up. I did some research having received a similar one awhile ago and it currently seems to be latent. However I can't seem to remove it permanently. I did an online Panda Scan and it told me the location and I took as screen shot of that-stating it is in an microsoftantimalware folder. However I can't delete the entire folder.
Any help would or direction to the right place would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

This thread may be in the wrong section, but here goes anyway:- I have received an email headed "Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64" containing just a long string of letters and symbols. I realise that this is probably some sort of spam message but I'm curious to know a little more about this sort of coding, what it's used for and how to decipher it. Can anyone enlighten me, please? (If it's relevant, my email service provider is AOL.)

A:Encoded email

ISO-8859-1 --> http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp

--> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_8859-1

In a typical email, there are 2 parts - a text file & an html file. Example - here is one email from my Live Mail inbox as seen behind the scenes -

Code:
11/07/2009 09:09 3,785 message000(iso-8859-1).txt
11/07/2009 09:09 8,174 message001.htm
That is one email kept by the system in a .eml "folder" -

Code:
0B2E289C-00000008.eml
It is not necessarily SPAM - it's probably in UTF-8 enriched text format.

For a few weeks, my husband has noticed his computer progressively slowing down. Now it has stopped communicating with the printer. The printer is networked and not having any problems with the other computers. We tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers with no improvement. Lastly, he noticed yesterday that the control panel immediately shuts down when trying to open it. The OS is Windows Vista.

We ran the follwoing programs: ATF Cleaner / AVG (log) / Malwarebytes (log) / Super Anti-Spyware (log / Panda Activescan (log) / Spybot / AdAware / HJT (log). Of note, Panda Avtive Scan found a virus called Xor-encoded.A, but could not disinfect it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi-

I encoded some video with Adobe Premeire pro. I would like to take that encoded video and make a DVD using Nero 6. My problem is that I can't find an option on Nero that lets you uses encoded video.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Using pre encoded video on Nero 6

When you say you encoded video, did you encode it as MPEG or did you leave in avi or mov format. If you encoded it as MPEG then you should be able to copy directly to DVD. If you didn't then I suggest you do.

I have two printers..only one at a time is hooked up to computer... both do an excellent printing job as long as what's being printed is NOT on internet..DSL..

When trying to print, even something as minimal as a three line e mail, the preview of printing shows upward of a dozen teeny encoded language... on a longer print job.. perhaps 2 dozen lines in size.. the p[review shows upwards of 40 pages required..

Both printers react the same way...Dell has remotely checked out my PC.. Epson has checked my pri nters... the only way that I can print useable copy is to cut and paste to Word Perfect.

Even the index that is shown to select a subject to read is shown as encoded language.. MEta. meta meta... full of metas, etc aside from the rest of the unintelligable language. no one has a suggestion that has helped at all.
Anyone out there having had this experience?

Oneoldman.. thanks you....

What email program are you using? Does it do it on all emails? Sounds to me like perhaps it's having problems printing an email that's not a "plain text" email...

Hi!
I found an old British TV show on DVD, from Amazon UK. When I went to play it, it said something about British region encoding. I am able to play on my computer it by changing Windows Media to British encoding format.

But I want to burn it to U.S. encoding! (this is legal by fair use).

How can I do this? Will Windows Media player do it, or do I need to get other software? -Row1

A:burn british encoded dvd to U.S.?

I've never tried it before. But I imagine you have to "rip" the DVD to your computer first, and then burn it again to a new blank disk.

Obviously you can't just re-encode the DVD, it can't be written to anymore. And you can't make a direct copy or you're in the same boat. So you have to rip and burn.

If you already have DVD burning software, you can use a program like DVD Shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html) to save the DVD to your computer.

The only thing is that, when saved, and re-burned, I don't know if the country code is automatically changed, or if there is additional stuff you have to do before burning. But DVD Shrink will get it to your hard drive, in any case.

Good luck!

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your time.

I just got rid of the infection and the Laptops status is back to normal.

However, all the stuff in My Docs/Pics ect are tagged .ENCODED - Removing .ENCODED does not allow the file to open sadly.

The ransomware wanted you to wire some $ to them for the decryption method, and gave you a 3 day window (Im guessing when they cycle their drop accounts) "Or else F U" basically.

My customer did not do this, nor do i think the hackers would of given him the solution anyways lol.

I read elsewhere that only the beginning of each file is infected and has code inserted to it that can be removed or something... did anyone make a script to fix this by chance? it seems it has been out in the wild since November-ish last year.

Is he SOL or maybe can i delete all the .encoded and do some data recovery for his old stuff?

Any solution of anykind is welcome, thank you for any insight or help.

i have this really weird problem where i downloaded some videos from a site (the site only plays them and doesn't let me download but i got the videos in the "temporary internet files" folder) but when i find them in the folder some are .mpg but most of the others are encoded as .txt files, i use media player to open the txt files and it works but i just wanna change it bbak to an mpeg or wmv...i've tried to add .mpg, .avi, or .wmv at the end of the names but it doesn't work... plzz helpppp!!

A:Video encoded as .txt files??

There's no telling what the actual encoding is. Since they don't want you to download them, I suspect they'd also be considered illegal downloads if you did figure it out. We don't help with those kinds of requests here.

Have win 98 and have been getting e-mail from a professor friend regarding twin towers construction and his e-mail attachments do not open in english. There are lots of letters and numbers however it asks if I want to save it and if I right click it will print the e-mail but I am unable to read it on the screen. In playing around with it I did get it to say that it was MIME format and also Base 64 encoded file.

Is there a program that can de code it so I can read it on the screen instead of printing it everytime?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey one and all,

I'm just wondering if anyone out there would know what would happen to my Acer motherboards hard coded Win 8.1 product key, when I use a Win 8.1 Pro key to upgrade my system (By using the Add features to Windows in Control Panel) Would the new Pro key replace it? Or what, if anything relevant to me, the user, would happen? haha

I'm a student with a University here in the U.K, and we have Dream Spark membership...so free Windows 8.1 Pro (or Vista) all round! (o

Cheers!

It may or may not remain there, however the new key would be the active or installed one. I did the same thing and the OEM key did not show up in ShowKey 1.1

Hi.

I help run a network, and have noticed a number of users devices hitting strange URLs - one for example is pasted below. All appear in the same format with a static IP and an encoded path.

For all of the URLs I've checked, they all seem to be operating a web server on port 2080, which is "Powered by wjas". I haven't found any useful information about this sort of web server

I got windows private folder where you have a password to unlock it and then use whatever folders you have in it. I have used it many times. No problems. Now I open it and I have some word documents in it and when I try to open any of them a box comes up with the document in it and it looks like it is encrypted. the box says file conversion and it wants me to select the encoding that makes my document readable. In the fist place I didn't encode it and have used the same word docs before and they were not encoded. I tried to click on other items in the box but it doesnot unincrypt them. there are thins like

windows default
DOS
other

and a box on the right hand side that gives choices like Eurapean,
and different countries etc if you just click ok it brings it up in word and it looks like this

anyone no what this is or how it got there?
If I open any word docs that are not in the private folder they open just fine and can read them normally nothing out of the ordinary. just the ones in this private folder of mine, and they were not that way the last time I looked at them which was probably a week ago or so
