Windows 2000 Setup Error loading ntkrnlmp.exe error code 16

Q: Windows 2000 Setup Error loading ntkrnlmp.exe error code 16

Help I need assistance solving this problem.

When installing Windows 2000 setup copies the initial files to the hard drive and then restarts to begin the 1st stage of setup.

The system begins the startup process by "Loading the Windows Executive" At this point setup stalls and gives the following message:
"Setup cannot load ntkrnlmp.exe the error code is 16"
This error is duplicated in different releases in win2k from the beta 3 to the final releases.

Please assist, respond to [email protected] or ICQ 1937432

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ive seen this one tech spot before but nobody posted a real solution, any ideas!!! i am installing over a copy of windows that was put on by the manufacturer (hp) and the pc is less than a year old

I'm having a hell of a time getting XP Pro installed on a PC. Everytime I try at get could not load \Ntkrnlmp.exe error code 7.

I've checked just about everything I know of.

Changed the Hard drive (3 times)
Changed the BIOS battery
Reset BIOS Settings
Changed PSU
Changed RAM
Removed Wireless NIC
Removed Floppy
Removed CD (tried bootable floppy) same error.

Could a defective motherboard cause this error??? that's the only thing I can possibly think of now...

 Greetings!

I googled a problem and found the subject here, however the person who originally posted was insulting and the admin closed the thread on him, LOL! (Which is kinda sad since it was so high on the results page) Anyways...

I have a PC here that has the following error when I run Windows 2000 Pro installation...

File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
I have tried two different W-2K CD's, changed out the RAM, reset the bios, and still recieve this error. I am not sure what my next step should be, as any solution I have found thus far requires that the system runs (which it doesn't and needs Windows installed) to copy the file into the correct folder on the hard drive. :giddy:

I would be VERY appreciative if any knowledgable person could help me out on this situation. THANX!

A:ntkrnlmp.exe error code 7

I also had the very same problem, but found a way of fixing it. However, in my case this required two computers! Here's how I did it, and the problems I had along the way. I have a desktop with W2K and a laptop with XP Home. It is the laptop which I am trying to convert to W2K.

The first thing to do is copy the ntkrnlmp.exe file from the i386 folder on the W2K disc, into the i386 and $WIN_NT$ folders on the hard drive. However, each time I tried this, the file would not copy over and I received some 'cyclic redundancy' error.

I then copied this file from the disc onto my desktop with no problem. I then placed this file into a shared folder. Through the network, I then picked up the file from the shared folder via the laptop, and copied the file into the appropriate folders. No problems. I then restarted the laptop, and the installation of W2K completed. Bingo!

I hope this is of some help to you.

Dell Inspiron 1545 does not load Windows 7. I ran diagnostics and it comes up with error code 0146. So I see that this relates to the hard drive. So I took out the hard drive and tried it in another Dell Inspiron that I have. The hard drive works fine. I think the hard drive is good. I am not sure what to look at next. I tried the hard drive from the good working Inspiron and it too did not load Windows 7 in the faulty laptop.
The furthest I get when I try to start the faulty computer is just pass the login screen. The login screen is extremely slow to respond. Once it finally process that I clicked on the login icon one of two things might happen. Sometimes you will see the normal decorative Windows 7 light blue screen that will eventually go to a black screen with the mouse pointer visible and responding. Sometimes a small dialogue box pops up that says it is preparing my desktop. It never does. The laptop will go to sleep after sometime has pass.
I would like to know what should I check next. I assume the hard drive is not communicating with something else that it should be. So perhaps a motherboard component? So it comes up with 0146 error code. But hard drive appears to be fine since it works fine in another computer.
I am not a technician but I can follow directions and Google. Thanks for your time mates.

If you take a hdd which has had Windows installed on it in one computer and move it to another computer to boot from without removing the identifiers you may find that you can no longer boot into Windows. If you run sysprep on the hdd with Windows 7 or 8.1 before using it with another motherboard you should be be able to boot from it without any complications. You want to remove all hardware identifiers from the hdd, this generalizes the drive. Click on the Start orb, then type cmd in the Search box. cmd will appear under Programs above the search box, right click on it and choose Run as administrator. This will open the Elevated Command Prompt. In the Elevated Command Prompt type in CD C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep, then use the command: "sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown"Don't power the drive back on until it's in the other computer.Note: You'll want to install the motherboard chipset drivers after moving the drive. I would like for you to do the Startup Repair using the installation disc.  The tutorial below has a download for a ISO image which you can burn to a disc to create a bootable installation disc. Instructions for a Windows 7 Repair installation. A Windows 7 Repair Installation will require a installation disc. If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can download a free legal ISO image of Windows 7 SP1 from the links below.  You will need to download the same version of Windows 7 that you hav... Using Agfa 1212U Scanner with Scanwise Software. Working fine. Both OmniPage Pro 10 and TextBridge Pro 11 generate error. Selecting scanner in the options menu for setup in Textbridge generates error. Finishing wizard choices, clicking on finish generates message.

Two messages appear: "Dr. Watson Fatal Error. Dr. Watson was unable to process. It is possible that process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it. Windows 2000 returned Error Code 87 - the parameter is incorrect." The 2nd message is the windows error message that simply states "an error has occurred and the program must be terminated."

I had been using OmniPage successfully and don't know what changes created these errors. I thought it was the fault of OmniPage so I tried TextBridge. Seems all OCR software creates the problem.

I have un-installed Scanwise and reinstalled with Norton Antivirus off. I have un-installed both OmniPage and Textbridge and reinstalled. I tried a registerfix program that claims to fix code 87 problems - it didn't.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

When you apply Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) on a debug version of Windows 2000 that has been upgraded to Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may receive a error message.

The Application failed to initialize properly (0x80000003). Click on OK to terminate the application

This problem occurs because a registry key that is set during the installation of Windows 2000 SP2 conflicts with the Update.exe install program.
Microsoft has released a script that you can run before you apply Windows 2000 SP3 that removes the registry key.

I have just recently been having a few problems with my Dell Inspiron 1525. First, my battery quite charging. There was no sign of problems with the charge it just quite. Now I get a message stating that it cannot recognize the power source? I have not changed a thing. Then about a month later I started noticing that my computer will not update. I have it set to automatically update but then when I look to see if it updated, it shows that the update failed. I tried to dowload the new Internet Explorer but it says it failed to download. Also (recently) I have been in the middle of Sims or facebook and my laptop will just go black. Completely shut down with no warning. So I finally do a System check and it came up Error Code 2000-0142, Status: 78. Then it didn't even finish the scan before my screen went black and it completely shut off with out warning. So is this all the same problem? Am I looking at my hard drive failing? Any help would be great, Thanks!!

Hard drive error code 2000-0146
Dell Inspiron 1525 computer. Screen goes black after Dell logo is shown. Ran diagnostics available when F12 key pressed when Dell Logo appeared. Two error codes came up during diagnostics. 2000-0142 and 2000-0146 "Self test log shows previous errors" Co-incidentally an email had been received with subject line "I enjoyed you in secret video" Others have had problems after this email, yet I can't find any reference to it on the net. It may only be co-incidence.
I tried booting from the installation disk. Screen showed "files loading" bar then went to the next screen with the green progress bar for a few seconds, then black and soon the hard drive ceased any activity. After a few attempts now the boot from the DVD just grinds away. There is hard drive activity but no progress.
I'm thinking bad hard drive but it doesn't seem reasonable. It is only a few months old. Ccleaner is used regularly and there hasn't been any lead up problems.

Had this same problem on Inspiron 1545.  Just wanted add what I did that seems to have solved the problem, I'll let u know if it stops working again.  Will be posting this elsewhere as well.
Got started on this link:
I booted off the dell OS disk by pressing f12 at startup and selecting CD-rom/DVD.
After files load, Click repair OS instead of Install.
Click Command Prompt.  Type C:\   Hit Enter
Type in chkdsk     Hit Enter
After chkdsk runs, If you have the same problem I did, it will say unable to repair in read-only mode.
on C:\, Type chkdsk/r
It will prompt you that all handles will be invalid, type y and press enter.
chkdsk fixed my problem, Reboot by typing exit and press enter.
Start Windows Normally.
Hope this helps, def post again if it happens again.

Hi, the errorcode speaks for itself, the system can't find the hard drive, i suggest you try plugging it into an desktop system as salve to try and save data, but if it is not found there either you will have to buy a new hard drive/get one on the warranty.

OK, had a virus (win min), deleted it, ran Hijack This, CWS+FIX but began to see various instabilities in the system (lock ups, programs not responding, etc).

Tried to re-install Win2000 from the CD rom as an "update" instead of full install so I wouldn't have to reload all applications, get's almost to the last stage every time and hangs at the Register update. Here's what works:

Setup: Keyboard/mouse detection
Networking items
Installing Components (during this it asks for the Nero CD, then the
Win 2k CD again. Seems this section is OK
Perform Final Tasks Update Start Menu Items Seems OK
Register Update (gets about 40% on task bar
and hangs forever)

Tried a reboot, it always gets to the same place in setup. And of course there is no way to boot the system outside of setup mode now.

Error Log says:

setupqry (0xb7) Load Perf Counter Text Strings FAIL
setupqry (0x800700b7) aborting caught an exception
Error setupqry 0x800700b7 CompleteInstallation Failed
Error D:\I386\NT5INF.CAT catalog file could not be found. Error code fatal error

Any ideas? Do I reformat the maxtor and start over? Is there a way around this on boot?

Any ideas? please help if i get a new hard drive will it be detectable?

Hi Support,
My monitor started showing only horizontal color lines and i don't see anything else on the screen. So, i had to connect to a monitor through HDMI and run diagnostic tests. On running BIST, i got an error with code  2000-0334 with validation # 3211 and msg: Video - User reported the patterns were not displayed.

Can you please advice on what steps needs to be taken to resolve display issues? I am using Dell INSPIRION N5050

A:Error Code 2000-0334

Do you see these lines every time you turn on the system? Is there any physical damage / liquid spillage on the system? Does the system overheat?
As the HDMI is working fine, I would suspect the LCD at this point, as the graphics card seems to be functional.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
Download the service manual - http://dell.to/1Uzd88M and reseat the LCD cable and check.
If not, the LCD cable and the LCD assembly needs to be replaced.
If the system is under warranty, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email). If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

i have a dell latitude e6410 and it is showing the error code 2000-0147. what are the proper steps to fixing this because i tried to go on dell.com/support to run a diagnostic test because it worked the last time my computer showed the black screen when i had to update the video driver and bios.

A:error code 2000-0147

It may or may not be a problem.  That error will show up if you try to run the diagnostics without having a blank, writeable disc in the optical drive.  It has nothing to do with the video subsystem or the BIOS.
What is the exact problem with the system?

I am running a Dell XPS M1530 with an XP Operating System spit into 2 partitions. I have been receiving blue screens with such errors as NV4-disp.dll-Address and Driver-IRQL-not-less-or-equal. Today, I uninstalled a toolbar from Zynga Games and was asked to restart my computer to complete the uninstall. Upon restart, my desktop picture was intact and my icons appeared, but as .INK files I could not access. I attempted a System Restore with no luck. I restarted in Safe Mode and tried a System Restore again, still no luck. I then ran my diagnostics and was confronted with the error code 2000-0146.

I attempted to restart normally and this message appeared:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

Please help!

My Laptop(Dell Inspiron N5050) has started to blow regular sound (like a trimmer while trimming). Then I came to know that it is sound of fan then I started Diagnostic at startup by pressing F12 and after checking error code shown as
Error code 2000-0511
Validation 30645
Msg: Fan - The processor fan has failed to respond correctly.
Plz tell me what exactly is with my laptop and how to resolve it.

A:Error code 2000-0511

It sounds like your fan is going out.  You could use some canned air and while the computer is OFF blow out the heat sink grills and fan area that you can see on the bottom and/or sides of the computer.  If that doesn't work you will have to get it replaced by contacting Dell if you are in warranty and having them take a look at it.  If you are not under warranty then you should take it to a local shop if you have one.

I'm new to Techspot. I wanted to get into a forum to try and solve an issue with my computer. The computer is a dell inspiron 1525, with vista, and receives the following message on startup, "internal hard disk drive not found."

A:Need help with error code 2000-0141

The usual cause is that the hard drive has gone bad... But you may just need to re-order your BIOS?
Have your tried borrowing another drive just to see if it is detected?
That computer can be about 2 1/2 years old... long enough for a drive to go bad...
But if you have valuable data on it, you don't want to mess with it too much... just because it doesn't boot, or is not detected, doesn't mean you cannot access it later to retrieve the data... because usually you can.
It can be a lot of other problems as well, so tell us more about your system and what you were in the middle of?

Hey guys.
I am currently living in Japan. My laptop is Inspiron 5378 and i got the harddisk error. As I have my warranty left The part is under warranty. The laptop is US based so now How can I get the replace harddrive in Japan?

A:Error Code 2000-0142

You'll need to initiate a warranty transfer first - that will require the purchase of a warranty upgrade if you have only a standard warranty now.
Only if you have onsite service can you transfer the warranty to Japan -- and also only if that model is sold in Japan.
