General query about using parts from one Yoga in another

Q: General query about using parts from one Yoga in another

Hello,This is probably a very simplistic question to all you techies out there :-) I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 14iSK, 3 years old and which has just stopped working due to a Motherboard issue. I was looking online and was thinking it would be good if I could somehow buy a cheaper Yoga, say a 310 (Intel Celeron) with a lower spec and then use the existing SDD and RAM (CPU?) in it or, is the architecture going to be too tightly bound to the 310? Thanks

Preferred Solution: General query about using parts from one Yoga in another

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forum.

What you're asking is possible in principle, however, it may not work out in practice. For example:

1. RAM in many systems these days is soldered to the motherboard. If this is the case in either the Y700 or the Y310 then you're out of luck.
2. Even if you can physically move the RAM it must be of the same type and speed.
(The Y700 DDR3L RAM while the Y310 uses DDR4, so it won't work.)

3. You may be able to move the SSD providing it's the same physical type.
(Some Y700 models came with 2.5" SSDs. The Y310 has a drive bay for this type of drive. So if the Y310 has only a HDD in that bay you could upgrade it to an SSD from the Y700.)

Of course if the Y310 has a slower processor and only 4GB of RAM then even with an SSD it may not run as fast as the Y700 with a new motherboard. Perhaps replacing the motherboard on the Y700 with a second-hand motherboard from eBay, etc. would be a better option.

Hi everyone, hope all's well in the world of techspot.

First, let me start by giving you my comp parts

AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ ( 939 )
GA - K8U - 939
1024 MB DDR 400 ( Hynix, Kingmax, ) (2)
256MB ASUS A9550GE
Lite -on 1635S
16 -Speed LG or Lite-on DVD Retail Box
Firewire IEEE 1394 PCI Card
1.44MB Panasonic FDD
250GB ( Seagate) 7200rpm SATA

I hope that means something to you experts, cuz it all means nothing to me

When I ordered the computer, I just asked the guy who was putting it together for me for a good computer with good gaming capabilities. I really only play games on the side but I wanted the computer to manage a few now and then. The computer is primarily for work and internet usage. All was well in my life until my mate who knows computers quite well looked at my components and told me that both my motherboard and video card were basically crap and soon to be obsolete...gotta love his honesty . I know that I have had problems running some games.

My question is simply (after that long and rather pointless intro) what video card and motherboard should I consider? Keeping in mind I'm not a hardcore gamer at all, just maybe a medium range card. I won't really be replacing anything anytime soon because I can't afford it, but now is the time I should start learning about what's out there.

This is by no means urgent and was simply curious as to your thoughts.

Cheers to all!

A:Parts General Query :)

You don't really need to swap your motherboard unless you want to go with a PCI-e video card. You could get something like an Nvidia 6800GT that would perform much, much better than your current card. You should be able to find a used card for $150 or less. You could also go with an ATI x800 or something similar to that.

This may not be the most appropriate forum to post this question on, but it is a problem moreso related to how a laser lens reads a disc more than it is about the actual PS2.

I recently underwent a project with my PS2: I bought a clear blue, see-through case for the thing because, well, I like my stuff to look great in addition to being functional. Unfortunately, this project gave me one and not the other.

Before I can fully explain my problem, I should explain what I did that might've caused it:
In the original Sony-made PS2 case, you have a black screw-on lid that covers the lens and spindle. Inside of this lid is a plastic wheel with a magnet that the spindle attaches to (via said magnet) when a disc is inside, so it doesn't jiggle all over the place while the spindle is rotating.

In my new blue case, that plastic wheel is mounted inside the top of the actual case, so you don't need the lid. (In fact, you have to keep the lid off or else the case won't fit.) This is so you can actually see the disc spinning while you're playing games or watching DVDs.

Follow me so far?

When I had my PS2 settled into the new case, I fired up the machine and popped in a disc. Immediately I saw that the spindle was not aligning with the plastic wheel. When the spindle was rising up from under the disc, it didn't reach high enough to connect to the wheel. Then the disc started spinning and going all sorts of ballistic, swaggering everywhere in the tray

Hi, I'm using an Asus n71jq laptop running windows 7. I recently did a repair install of windows to fix a black majic midi problem I was having. Since, I frequently have freezing of the computer during the post message, during the bios setup (f2), during startup repair, and during windows 7 startup. It seems to choose randomly which section it freezes. Occasionally I get lucky and it gets through. Last time I was able to, my desktop was returned to one of the Asus defaults, and my theme was wrong. My desktop icon size was also different.

Thanks for support.

A:Computer randomly freezes in various parts of general startup

my theme was wrong. My desktop icon size was also different.

That means that Windows loaded a default user profile and not your usual one. Freezing is usually caused by overheating. Remove the battery and just run off the Power Supply. Blow out all fans with a can of Compressed air. Try doing a Clean Boot
Run Check Disk on the HDD.

I've got a few questions, but I guess collectively they fall under power supply, and this seemed like the right place to ask.

I'm running a Packard Bell iMedia 2579, at stock. That is; a Core 2 Duo e6300, 1024mb RAM, Ati x1650SE graphics, Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 250gb, DVD writer, card reader.

I'm going to upgrade to a XFX Geforce 8800GTS 320mb XXX, and 2gb RAM.

My first question is, would a Cooler Master Truepower 450W be enough to cover my system after upgrades?

And my next question is; when in CPU-Z, I notice my voltage is constantly fluctuating, from ~1.2V down to ~1.15V, and its resulting in my core speed reading anything from 1596MHz to 1862MHz, any idea why?

And lastly, I'm my Rated FSB speed is 1066MHz, how come the Packard Bell website states I can only take memory up to 667MHz. This, I understand, is DDR2 PC5300. Shouldn't I be able to take anything up to DDR2 PC8500? I'm beginning to realise just how much I don't know about computers!

I'm beginning to get the feeling this computer isn't going to live up to my hopes, which is quite disheartening; please, say it isn't so!

A:General query, covering RAM, PSU, and CPU. Please help!

Oh, that darn front side buss......

First, your power supply will be dictated by the specs of your new Video card. Right on the box; "system requirements". You should have at least the minimum wattage suggested by the Video card manufacturer. A good 450 watt PSU is generally enough to run all but SLI (dual video card) systems.

The Core 2 Duo Intels only have a 65 watt draw at stock speeds so they're not power hogs at all.

As to whose PSU would be the best for you, the names Seasonic, and Fortran Source come up quite frequently. I'm not familiar with the Coolermaster so I shouldn't comment.

Most 1066 FSB boards will run up to DDR2 800MHz RAM, but the board must be matched to the potential speed of the processor. Motherboards that "POST" every time with 667MHz (PC5300) RAM, can get at lot more finicky at the higher speeds. Sometimes to run faster memory, the voltage and Memory Timings need to be changed in the BIOS.
This is not necessarily a beginners project.

Please bear in mind that DDR2 @667 MHz running in dual channel mode is PLENTY FAST!

The voltage fluctuation you speak of could be coming from two places, obviously, the power supply, but also there are voltage regulators in the mobo itself. Last I suppose it could be the AC power line, but that's the least likely source.

Hi There,
My ISP (Blueyonder) In The UK Has Just Introduced Their Own Virus Protection At Server Level, Any Infected Email Now Gets Deleted At Source And I Get A Notification Of Deletion Instead Of The Infected Mail.

I Applaud This As A Great Idea, However At The Moment I Am Getting Around 8 Virus Emails A Day, Not Much Spam, But Definate Virus Emails. I Have A Works Website That Does Have My Email Address On It, Am I To Assume That "Email Address Scanners" Have Randomly Picked Up My Email Address From My Works Website Or From Forums Similar To This One Or Am I Being Deliberately Targetted?

The Email Senders Name Is Usually Displayed But I Suspect That It Is Being Cloned As It Is Mainly Large Companies Like "River Island" Or "The Touring Company" That The Maill Purports To Have Come From......Anyone Got Any Advice Or Ideas?

P.S. I Have Removed The Email Address From My Works Website And Made It A Link So That My Address Is Not Shown On The Page.

As long as you and the person you are giving (not loaning) the unused version of MS Office 2000 application program agree to their usage MS Office 2000 will run with no problems on Windows 98. At the time Windows 98 came out MS Office 2000 was the perferred operating system for its use.

I have been having problems restoring to a previous date within the last week.

what errors are you getting restoring to the older date? I've not had to restore my W7 rig, but I know in XP it helped greatly to use safe mode in doing that.

Hi, I have a faulty Yoga 13 which does not switch on and no lights are on. The last time I was using it, the battery was getting a little low so I plugged in the charger. It went dead immediately with no lights showing and I was unable to switch it on with or without mains power plugged in. I tried with 2 new chargers with no success. So I want to find out the best way to diagnose the fault and look to replace any non working parts in the most cost effective way as I don't really want to throw the laptop away. Which parrs are most likely to have failed and what order should I try to replace them? Thanks

Hi Folks,  I was a bit of dumbass over the summer and spilled a small amount of whiskey on my system and killed the keyboard; Not a huge deal as I usually leave the system hooked up to my tv and use a remote keyboard, and when I use it mobile, I can use the onscreen keyboard, although this last is a bit of a pain..  I've tried contacting encompass but they don't seem to sell replacement keyboards; does anyone happen to know where else actually sells replacement keyboards. Biggest problem seems to be that it's a standard Canadian/Bilingual keyboard. I'm able to find US keyboard replacements, but the layout is different so won't fit with the current top plate, and I'd much rather avoid have to replace the whole thing (20$ keyboard vs something like $160 for keyboard and top plate....)  Any help would be appreciated, but if I cant actually find something that should be a relatively easy part to replace, this will be my last Lenovo item unfortunately.Steph S.

So... I bought a Lenovo Yoga 710 (Model: 80TX) from Best Buy a couple of days ago. I bought it brand new (not open-box, refurbished or anything like that). I noticed that the exterior sides of both hinges (the side closest to the edge of the laptop for both hinges)  look exposed and I feel like there should be a little plastic piece or something covering the exposed side of the hinge. The reason I find this weird is because the interior sides of both hinges DO have a little black piece of plastic covering them. Also, one other thing to note - the "." key on my keyboard keeps on popping off very easily. See the attached pictures for reference. SO... what do you think? Is this normal and I'm just being too critical? Is this a mistake on Lenovo's side? Did Best Buy sell me a used laptop? I appreciate all and any helpful feedback. Thanks!Exterior Side (exposed)?Exterior Side (exposed)?Interior Side (covered)?

I have a Yoga x1 gen2 I got last fall that's developed the screen banding problems that people occasionally experience.  I called in yesterday, 8/17/18 and spoke with support.  I have a 3 year onsite warranty.  Support said I would be called for the repair to be arranged.  Good. Now today, 8/18, I get an email saying the part is not available and has to be ordered.  It would be nice if a time frame were indicated, it's a work laptop.  So I call the 800 number and am told that the part will not be available until next year.  NEXT YEAR, I gasp.  The guy tells me "maybe you can send it in and get it repaired, that might be quicker." Words fail me.  Irresponsible?  Incompetent?  Dishonest?  (We are talking about "onsite repair," aren't we?)   What is going on here?  Who can I talk with about this?  The guy I spoke with was clueless.  If this is true, then we should put the word out that warranty coverage is essentially worthless.  I hope you can provide help and not condolences.

@Amy_Lenovo, @Mark_Lenovo: My Yoga 260 has developed a number of build quality issues after less than 1 year of ownership (see below). I had purchased an on-site NBD upgrade with ADP, but support tells me company policy is that if a service tech needs to repair more than one part, the device has to go into the depot. Seems a little nuts that we?d be penalized for Lenovo?s poor QC in that way. I can?t be without this unit for a week. Has anyone a) heard of this one-part policy for on-site service before, or b) had any luck getting Lenovo to service multiple parts on-site? I've been trying to reach Lenovo customer support through phone number but nothing is working. I keep getting a dial tone and then call is hung up automatically (really frustrated how they don't even have an email address). My Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd Gen OLED laptop is recently out of warranty and an intermittent problem that began some months before the warranty ran out is now a consistent one. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. NOTE: I could not post code because I must be really careful to protect proprietary information.

I work in an assembly plant and I've designed an Access 2003 program to deliver a set of 4 crucial parts to the floor all within a very narrow degree of tolerance. Further, the program integrates FIFO.

Ive done this by assigning each of the essential measurements codes and then running a series of queries:

Query 1 identifies the oldest Part A by sorting the available parts by the date they were inspected then by serial number (to break ties) and delivering the TOP 1.
Query 2 identifies the oldest Part B that is compatible with that Part A using the same method.
Query 3 identifies the oldest Part C that is compatible with that Part B.
Query 4 identifies the oldest Part D that is compatible with the other end of Part A. I have the parts in this order because we can begin assembly if we don't have a Part D on hand, but we must have Parts A, B, and C.
Finally, query 5 simply pulls the information from those queries into one location for a report.
As long as we have enough stock, life is good; but the moment a match cannot be made, it blows up. I cannot figure out how to make it go back to choose the next Part A. I need to figure out how and where to add code to each query to tell it that if no stock is compatible with the Part A produced by Query 1, to go back and pick the next one in line.

Can anyone help? Is the way I've gone about matching parts completely... Read more

Hi there,

I'm very new to access and I hope I will get the simplest solution on my question below.

I have a table named "PurchaseOrder" and I'd want to create a query that will display the invoices that will due.

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
3241 A 421 $12 17-Oct-2010
6589 B 521 $19 14-Oct-2010
2234 C 987 $32 15-Oct-2010
8697 D 888 $88 18-Oct-2010

I want to create 2 queries.

The first query will display all the invoices that will due 5 days before the exact due date.
The invoice due date is 15-Oct-2010. The query will display information on 3241, 6589, and 2234.

For the second query, I want to display all the invoices that have exceeded the due date. The information on the respective invoices will be transfered from the query as mentioned earlier to the new query.

The scenario is as below:

Date: 16-Oct-2010

PONo Customer Quantity SalesPrice InvoiceDueDate
3241 A 421 $12 17-Oct-2010

Date: 18-Oct-2010

So whenever I play games (specifically grand theft auto five) I will boot it up and then within minutes it will begin to lose frames, but only for breif yet increasing stretches of time. My frames will drop to like 15-20, there will be the sound of static (as in the alteration of in game noise), input lag will occur (sometimes with times between 5-10 seconds of delay between when I push a button and when my character moves), and then after like a minute it will snap right back out of it, but do it again in just a little bit. CPU: Intel i700-7700HQ CPURAM: 16 GBGPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 I have some pretty good computer stats, so I really see no reason why the game should be doing this. Possible Causes Inability to update Intel Driver (this seems intentional on lenovo's part)The fans. I have two issues that I hope you can assist me with.  The first paragraph below is for the first issue.  The second paragraph below is for the second issue.  I appreciate any assistance you could provide.
On 4/2/2016, I placed an order for a new display back cover and a set of hinges in the HP Parts Store.  My HP [personal information removed].  Total order cost = $233.91 in US dollars.  I paid for the parts already via credit card and the parts were delivered to me.  A friend of mine repairs laptops as a full time occupation.  She was planning to help me repair the broken laptop hinge and replace the back cover so part of the replacement hinge would be protected when I transport the computer.  Unfortunately, my friend found out that her sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer after I received the parts from the HP Parts Store.  My friend has been spending lots of time caring for her ill sister and her elderly parents in their 80s.  She is unable to help me repair the right hinge and back cover of my laptop.  The parts have not been touched and they are still in the boxes.  I would like to return the parts and receive a credit applied to my charge account; however the HP return policy states that parts must be returned in 14 days.  The HP Parts Store also charges a restocking fee.  Can you assist with this return transaction?  I would prefer to not pay the restocking fee.

So I'm planning on building my new PC and have found a list of all of the parts that I would like to purchase. This will be my first build and wanted to check that A) all these parts are compatible and B) that these are the best parts I can get for the money.

To clarify I will be using the PC for mainly gaming and Photoshop/other design work. The prices below are the best prices I could find online too. (Budget is about 600)
Tower - Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - 82.99
Power Supply - Corsair 500 Watt CX500 V2 Builder Series 80 Plus Power Supply - 44.98
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K - 166.97
Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 - 100.00
RAM - Patriot G Series Sector 5 Edition 4GB - 24.49
Graphics card - Sapphire RADEON HD 6850 - 118.40
Hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB - 61

Think this all I will need (apart from a disc drive) any other hidden costs/ parts that I am missing out too?

A few weeks ago I began starting to have to log in with password twice to enter hotmail. Didnt think much of it when it started.

Last friday, my internet explorer was taken over by an anti-virus page saying I was infected and to download this cleaner - it appeared to be a MS look alike so I didnt download but it had reset my home page to "about-blank" and each time I opened IE the same page opened.

I tried AVG but it didnt clear the problem and it has been a long time since I have had a problem I dont really know where to start.

I did try to down load and run some of the packages noted in this forum but am really at a loss where to start to clean up the machine.

I did remember that it may help if I reverted to a previous system point and did this. This has solved the IE problem but since I have not cleaned the system i assume that the bug it is still there and I would like to get it cleaned out.

Can you suggest the best method and programs to use to clean the computer up.

I am reasonably computer literate but not on new things or ones that I dont really understand like this...... hard for old dogs to learn new tricks.

I am running on Windows XP with service pack 3 installed.

The computer is a Dell Dimension E521 Athlon 64 desktop.

Any and all assistance will be greatfully accepted.

I've got a lending table in which we lend items out, now they can be loan or permanent.

I can run a report with the query parameter on the ReqDate_Fld criteria Between [Report Start Date] And [Report End Date]

The report prints and counts everything borrowed.

Now I want to add more records to the report to include everything borrowed that was returned during that period specified by the criteria Paramenter set in the query. But using the Return Date (RetDate_Fld)

How can I select rows from the query based on the parameter date filled in when the query ran?
[Report Start Date] and [Report End Date].

I can build a separate report just for the returns using the current parameter but on the RetDate_Fld Between [Report Start Date] And [Report End Date] set by the query.

I've got it grouping at 3 levels to get it to break by Borrower, ReqID, and Request Date

Does this make any sense?

A:Solved: Access query report query paramater use the param

You would have to have another group for whether or not the RetDate_Fld was filled in or not.
Add a new column to the query with the following Heading

RetDatefilled: iif(not isnull(RetDate_Fld), 2, 1)

That should place a 2 in the new column when there is a date and a 1 when there isn't.
You can now group on that data.

I have written a macro to make a table from data in an existing table. Then I use the data in the new table to select information in another table. That select query does not allow me to update the information in the 2nd table. It is like the records are locked. Even if I create a new table myself the select queries are locked but all my pre-existing queries work fine. Is there some type of setting I am missing that causes the information to be locked in select queries? I am thinking somehow the setting may have been changed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have created a search engine for a data base using Access 2007
The Form Basically Runs a query of multiple fields and loads the result into a Combo box.
The problem is the data base is not fully complete and the records with blanks in some of their fields do not appear in the search results.
For example lets say I am looking for a People with the same surname and in my database is
Name Surname
Mike Norris
Chuck Norris
The query will not find the record only containing Norris
Here is the query I have used.
Like "*" & [Forms]![Entry]![txtSurname] & "*"

I have a previously designed Access DB and there is a query that I am trying to understand. It has several tables that are queried more than once in a single query. First how do I determine the actual table name? I can only see the alias name. Also what is the purpose of using the same table twice in a query?

A:Solved: Access Query using tables more than once in same query

It is normally to do calculations or comparisons on prior or next records. It is the one weekness of Access Queries, the Totals function has some good arithmetic calculations like average, Count Sum etc but manipulating previous records like add or subtract values from the current record it can't do. So it requires more advanced SQl. Which is apperas you have.
Have you looked at the query in SQL view?
It should use the word "As" to designate the alias.

Hi there,

Once again I need your help in Access. I'm trying to do a calculated field in a query that based on a query. For example, query B is based on query A. I want to add a calculated field called Totals in query B. The field totals does not exist in any of my tables.

Here is an example.

Totals: [Field1]+[Field2]+[Field3]

In the totals line I clicked on Expression. But the totals do not appear when I view my query. I get no errors on the formula. What at I doing wrong??

For a report I have a customer table, an invoice table and a revenue or payment table.

I need to produce a report that shows all the invoices created during a given month and year - that part is easy.

But then I also need to show the first payment given on that invoice. This is a situation where there is always a down payment made at the issuance of the invoice - but sometimes people will make more than one payment during a month.

I want the customer listed for each new invoice, the total amount of that invoice and what the inital payment on that invoice was: [CustomerID][Customer Name] [Invoice No][Total Invoice Amount] [Payment Amt]

So if there was an invoice issued for $100 and they paid 50 and 25 during the month it was issued and the balance on the next month, I still want to show it on this report as a $100 invoice with a $50 downpayment only.

(The tables are established and populated so it is too late to change the payment table to allow for a unique downpayment field. They all go in as payments.)

My problem is that if they made more than one payment during the month, the whole line with the customer name and invoice number shows up for each payment made. I only wnat the FIRST payment. I need a payment query that shows only the first payment in the month of invoice issuance.

Does that make sense?

A:SQL Query question for Access 2010 query

Yes it makes sense, I would create a pre-query that uses the Month & Year but is set to "Totals" and Date Minimum.
Then create the Report query using the pre-query linked to the new query's table via the InvoiceID this will limit both the month, year and minimum payment.

hi there,

I have a large Access database and some of the queries are based on other queries (sql or other).

Now when I try and view the design mode of some of these queries, it takes an astonishingly long time as it appears that Access runs the child query contained before it allows the 'parent' query to show in design mode.

I can kind of see why it does it - but is there any other way of quickly viewing a query in design mode without Access first running the other queries it's based upon?

(NB: Someone said in the 'old days'(!) Access used to have this feature, but it is no longer there?!?!?!)
